This was different from a lot of sports romance books that you read today in that the female is kind of taking on a "male" role.  I have to say, I wasn't looking forward to getting into this book - until I started reading it.  I'm not one of those women who think a woman can do everything a man can do and I still admit that we can't do everything a man can do.  This book, however, was super cute and had me at the first chapter.  Reese and Ryder have some chemistry that can't be denied in this book.  It's sort of smoking hot if I'm gonna be honest and the storyline did have some angst, which I'm not a fan of...but it fit in this.  Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I'm kind of hoping it comes to Audible soon with maybe some SebYo.

The reviews on these books are always so hard to do and not because there's anything wrong with them, but because I don't want to give anything away to another reader.  Every book I say "This is the best one...I loved it!!"  However, this was another awesome book!!  It had everything that a regular length RVD book has and that you're wanting and it's in a 1001 Dark Nights Book.  I imagine that the creators of that series were thinking "Yeah, this isn't novella length."  Which I'm glad because if anyone's read one of my reviews on Novella's - I hate them...I mean, I really loathe them because you can't shove a story into a novella.  This was soooo different!! You really got to know who Vic was in this book and see what made him who he was and I'm hoping that we get to see that side of the Mafia...hint, hint, hint.  It opens up a whole new avenue.  Renee reminded me so much of Andi and I fell in love with her.  I don't know why she reminded me of her but she did.  There wasn't anything specific and I just couldn't put my finger on it but it was her and after I got done reading...I wanted to do two twirls!!

This book got me out of my slump and while it wasn't a "5-star" it was certainly a great book.  I loved the mystery surrounding Gina's grandfather.  I also loved the mafia aspect and that Gina didn't want to be a part of that.  However, she knew how to take a gun apart in less than 5 minutes because that's what her and her grandfather did for fun.  I loved that the heroine wasn't a traditional "beautiful" woman, but she was strong nonetheless.  She had more substance in her pinky toe than most writers write about in 260 pages of a book and that is hard to come by.  I liked how the hero is flawed and he knows it, he owns it and he tries to always do what's right to the best of his ability despite that.  This is one of those novels that made me think while I enjoyed it and I really loved that.  I have a thing about plots and storylines and that they MUST have one and this did.  Well done Ms. Flynn!!

I'm probably in a book funk which is why this book doesn't work for me... at ALL. I hated the characters - the main characters were shallow and showed no growth whatsoever. I hated the fact that drugs and alcohol were treated as though it were secondary to the plot and that the sexual chemistry was the first thing that was important. To me, it was handled secondary when in reality or should have been done primary. You can't have a relationship that's sustaining when there's that much baggage and neither character cares. Also, if you're using the morning after pill as your back up method as a side thought because you're just so thoughtless...well all I can say is this was a hard finish for me.

------------ -------------I really enjoyed this book!! It had such a good message...At least, that's what I thought.  I loved the main characters in the story and thought that they were very age-appropriate.  Sometimes, you read a book that's about high school kids and you think "this is NOT about kids in school!!" I didn't think that about this book.  My heart hurt for Chase's sister.  I think we can all say that we've been the brunt of someone's jokes or been made fun of, but to have Gin step in and take up for her was a great moment.  I really liked this one and it was a lot different than what I'm used to with this author.  Well done!!

The writing was good and the premise was promising but the execution was just mediocre for me personally. I'm sure others will love this book but I just didn't connect with the main characters and it might have been the topic...I don't know. I won't say I won't read another book from this duo because I've liked their other books - I really think it's what it was about.
