What's up, Monday?
As you know, I try to post something fun and exciting for you guys to read every week, because seriously, who wants to read the same old boring blog posts every week. You'll have to cut me some slack this week, though. I'm nursing a Big Brother hangover.
Ugh, that's right, I said Big Brother. Let me tell you how much I hate reality TV: I HATE IT ALOT! That being said, I got the idea to write a book based on a reality show a few weeks ago. Obviously, with so much going on in my writing world this year, I won't have the time to write it in 2013. But, the plan is to write one in 2014 and my idea is for it to be loosely based on Big Brother. The reason behind it, though, is based on my own thoughts about what it must be like to live with complete strangers and compete against each other and fight and start all kinds of drama.
If you've been keeping up with this season, you know Amanda, who is, BY FAR MY FAVORITE PERSON! And I think I like her so much because her head is wrapped up in the game! She throws an emotional fit every once in a while to garner sympathy and then turns it around and comes back a stronger player. YOU GUY. If I was on this show, I would be Amanda! You have no idea!! Every person in the house would be wrapped around my finger, just like they all are wrapped around Amanda's. It's actually kinda funny.
But anyway, back to watching the show. It's the only reality show I watch, and I like to say that I'm only watching it for research and reference, but I do like it. I watch 6 episodes last night (oh em gee) and then finally dozed off around 1am. It was awesome! I don't have any names/titles set for the book yet, but I can tell you that it will most likely be a Summer 2014 release! (I may even do a novella series like my BFF books)!
Speaking of the BFF series.... Are you guys as pumped as I am? The first episode is written and edited and ready to rock, but I want to have a couple of them all ready to go before I start publishing. The great news is that I plan to do a preorder on iTunes for the first and second novella's, so get some more attention! I should have more details about that next week, but for now, you can add it on your Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18362006-liar-liar
So, Liar, Liar is the first episode and it follows Hazel during her first week in college. It is set to release September 17, 2013!! Each new novella will be a new person's POV until all eight have told their stories! Then, I wlll filter through them two more times, which means you get 24 episodes, which is pretty much just like a TV season. It's going to be amazing and so long as they do okay, I plan on doing a season two, as well (possibly more). I am really excited about this series and I hope you will be, too.
The Broken Series! Oh wow, after the emotional roller coaster of Broken Dreams, you guys, I had to take a little bit of time off from the Broken series. Broken Pieces is scheduled to be released in December, and that will no be pushed back! I will have it done. But for the next few weeks, I plan to enjoy writing about the crazy, immature college lives of my Best Friends Forever series. I promise you'll love it.
Okay, that's a long enough blog post! I hope you learned something today (even if it's just that my secret Big Brother addiction is no longer a secret)!!1

A sad day in the publishing community...
This morning, my social media newsfeed has been flooded with this article: http://laurenpippa.tumblr.com/post/58778318048/cancelling-the-release-of-learning-to-love about a debut author who is canceling her new release because of the bullies of Goodreads.
Apparently others have been telling her she's letting these bullies win by canceling, and although I understand where she stands, I am forced to agree. If it happened to me, I would push back and take it as more free publicity of my book. Because honestly, there are always people who don't like your book (whether they've read it or not).
In this industry, you are going to be judged, harshly, and you've got to develop a super thick skin in order to persevere. Here is what some people have said about my books:
"This book was a waste of time."
"This book was such a headache."
And you know what? WHO CARES?!?!? For every reviewer who said something bad, I had no less than five who adored my book. That's how it works. Expecting people to be 100% nice or pleasant is a pipedream. People are mean and being bullies gives them some sort of sick satisfaction. I say SCREW THEM!
Forget about the people who discourage, focus on the ones who uplift you, like fellow indie authors and amazing bloggers. So, your book starts off with a bunch of 1-stars. If it's good, and you get it into the right hands, it could just as easily garner 100 five-stars in a short time.
Personally, I never ever check to see what kind of lists people are putting my books on, because they are mean. I hardly check reviews anymore, either. It's discouraging to see the poor reviews and unless you've got skin of steel, you'll be affected emotionally, because of all your hard work.
I hope Lauren changes her mind, and realizes that these people need to be pushed back, but I doubt she will. Best of luck, Lauren.

Monday!
What a weekend! Personally, it was fantastic!!! Hubby & I hung out with our friends, and then my parents and younger siblings came up Sunday for a lobster cookout. It was phenomenal.
This week, prices for my books are going back up to $2.99, so if you haven't picked up a free copy of Broken Promises or the $0.99 copy of Broken Dreams, I suggest you do it today, before the pricing takes effect. I won't have another sale for awhile.
I'm so exhausted! This weekend wore me out, but I still wish I'd been in Vegas for the big event, even if just to attend as a reader and meet all those amazing authors! Oh well. There's always next year, right???
I have like 50k words to write this week, so my blogging skills are subpar and I apologize for it. But I have some serious books to get writing and start publishing! Not a big update w

A Day in the Life of Lisa Swallow!

A Day in the Life of DL Kane!
Born and raised in the military, D.L. has traveled the world. She was raised in Europe but settled in her family's native home in Texas at the age of 13.D.L. completed her first novel in 2007 but didn't have the first clue what to do with
it. "I was scared. I was terrified that nobody would like it. So I just sat on it and did some research. This was at a time when Indie publishing was still a relatively new concept so I was either going to need an agent or a whole lot of money if I wanted to get published." While the manuscript sat untouched, D.L. began work on the second installment. Major life changes forced both books to the back burner until 2011 when D.L. finally sent the first manuscript out for Beta reading. "It was the longest week of my life waiting to hear from my Beta reader. A rave review and firm push to complete the next book was all it took for me to get serious about finishing this series."
“Broken” is a three book N.A. series that follows the lives of four friends as they
navigate a world of lies and deceit to find love, honesty and forgiveness. All three books have undergone a major overhaul, including new titles. The first, “Shattered Dream” is expected to be released in September 2013.

Scheduling changes
If you've never met me in person, then you can't quite understand my crazy brain. I change my mind all the time and although it can be awesome, most days it's a pain. This week, because of some scheduling issues and overall writer's block, I have decided to push back the release of Summer's Ghost until 2014. It's a personal choice, because I just have so much on my plate!
In lieu of that, though, I am going to release a new adult novella series. These will be about 20k words a piece and a new one will be released every week for several weeks and basically, it's going to be like a badass TV show, with seasons and episodes and overall, I think it's going to be awesome. The very first one will be free, and then I will make them each $.99 (or free, idk) to generate interest.
I'm really excited about this new project, and I think it will a hit (or at least, I hope it will be). And if not, oh well - I still like the ideas in it. :D
Tomorrow is the Day in the Life blog, featuring DL Kane, so be sure to check back!

Indie Book Fest 2013
If you didn't know, I went to my very first signing this past weekend, which explains why I haven't posted on the blog lately! It was so much fun!!!
First, I drove from Maine to Tennessee to Florida - hello 3 day trip! I was surprisingly refreshed when I got in, though, which is great! I hung out with Andrea Heltsley and started to meet some amazing authors. Friday night and Saturday, I met even more authors and the event all but flew by! I even managed to snag a pic of me with Isaac Marion, who was like a celebrity in our midst - I think all the fangirling surprised him...
So, after the event, I went to dinner with fellow authors Annalisa Grant & Michelle Miller, along with fans, Marla & Destiny. SO MUCH FUN! I think I had two drinks, which gave me a buzz, and then later, we walked around the hotel and I posed for some ridiculous photo ops, including being a gansta and Michelle photo-bombed me. It was epic!
Once I was back in my room, hanging with my roomie, Andrea, we were tired. Until a cockroach decided to pay us a visit. YOU GUYS... I am such a wimp when it comes to bugs. I could face a bear and be prepared to die, but that giant cockroach had me squealing and jumping up on the bed like a girl. And then panic set in, and I had a panic attack (way to go!) and then I knew, just knew, I wouldn't be able to sleep, so we left. Checked out early. And I doubt I will be back. But that's okay, because IBF next year falls the same weekend as AAD, and I already signed up for AAD.
So began my drive home, which I managed to squeeze into just under 44 hours. I am tired, and just a little cranky, but the coffee is hot and it's getting me to a better place. I plan to post pictures later today, once I unpack my camera. :D
