Broken Dreams Teaser!

For those of you who have asked, it's finally here! A short, steamy teaser from Broken Dreams! Below you will find my inspiration for Chris Baker, the male lead in this story: Picture
I needed to shower. I got up off his bed and walked across his room and into the bathroom. I pulled the shower curtain back and just stared at him.
Baker was blonde with insanely deep gray eyes. He kept his hair cropped short, but he kept a goatee around his lips, which drove me crazy. He was always giving me whisker burn, but he refused to shave it off whenever I complained. His stubbornness was sexy, even when it pissed me off. It was part of the reason I allowed myself to get entangled with him this summer. He was real and not lovey-dovey or needy. He liked to do his own thing and didn’t want a commitment or to be tied down.
And since my plan was to only stay for the summer, I definitely didn’t want a messy relationship to deal with. I had enough on my plate. Baker was a perfect fling for me. Our history made it almost easier, too, since we’d seen each other naked before. Of course, seeing him naked for the first time since I’d been back in Casper had been a shock.
He wasn’t taller than he’d been the last time I saw him, but he had definitely filled out. His skinny arms and thighs had matured into thickly muscled limbs of steel. His abs were well-defined and hot as hell. His normally pale skin was tan and he looked rugged. I liked it.
Keep an eye out for more teasers throughout the month! Release is scheduled for August 1st! You can add Broken Dreams to your Goodreads tbr list here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18003554-broken-dreams

Also, Broken Promises, the first in this series, will be FREE across multiple retailers over the next 24 hours. So if you haven't gotten a copy, watch for it! :D

A Day in the Life of Marissa Carmel!

Picture Marissa Carmel has loved writing ever since a young age. She has a dual degree in History and Political Science, but took as many creative writing classes as she could. She spent most of her twenties bartending which is where she met her husband and a multitude of interesting people. When she’s not reading or writing, she’s hanging out with her family, experimenting in her kitchen or doing yoga on the living room floor.

Updates!

Okay. So for those of you anxious to get reading Broken Dreams, I am HARD at work on it! In fact, the plan is to have it finished by Sunday (at the absolute latest) and then send it to my editor! Which means that I am right on track for my August 1 release date. You guys! This story is so sad and funny and it's probably closest to my heart for about a million reasons! Just wait until you read it. I will be offering bloggers a FREE copy (must have a legit book blog and be able to read and post a review in August) - email me for more details!
Next on my list - Summer's Ghost! This story is going to rock (I hope)! The plan is to have it out mid-September to early October. Once I have Broken Dreams all taken care of, I will put it  up on Goodreads for adding to your t-b-r pile. Summer's Ghost will be my very first attempt at paranormal, and it will also be NA, which I just LOVE to write, so hopefully it catches your attention!
Third... the book I am writing with Andrea Heltsley! We recently ran in to a name snag, but we're working it out. Meanwhile, the story is about twin teenage girls (it's a YA contemporary) who discover that sometimes, life can change drastically in a short time, but once in a while, that change is the best possible thing for you! We'll be creating a Goodreads entry for it in the next few weeks. Our goal is to have it all done and ready to pub by the end of August, so the next few months will be very busy for me!
Lastly - EVENTS! I am so excited for the events I am participating in this year, you guys! As of right now, I will be in Lebanon, TN on October 4&5; I'll be in Charlotte, NC on October 12; Then I have back-to-back signings in HOUSTON on October 26 & November 2! The last event for this year is the New Adult Sleepover Weekend, which will be in Savannah, GA on December 6-8! If you are close to any of these places, come out and see me! You can check out my Events tab at the top of the page for more info on these conventions and signings! I can't wait to meet you!
I will be posting a teaser from Broken Dreams la

Vacation Blues

As some of you may know, I set off on vacation last week and I was hardly online at all, especially here. But I'm back, and I learned a few things on vacation that I am going to share with you today!

1) Rest stops are totally different in the south than they are up north. First, they're cleaner, which is awesome, but they are also very pretty and have well-manicured lawns. Where I live, the rest stops are just a parking lot attached to a bathroom, but down south, they take pride in how their rest areas look! And they were VERY clean!

2) I can't do boats. I will share this story with you all in the weeks to come, but suffice it to say - no boats for me!

3) Music is king! We listened to Sirius XM radio the whole ride down, and I am in love with the song Radioactive by Imagine Dragons & Hung Up by Hot Chelle Rae!

4) I am a klutz. If there is something to trip over, my feet will find it! (And sometimes, they'll make me trip over nothing, which is always awesome!)

5) If you ever take a vacation, make sure you know you are in love with that person - spending every hour with someone for seven days in a row made me realize how much I love and adore my hubby.

6) I didn't drive on our trip. Like, at all. Seriously, I drove for a total of about two hours on the twenty-hour trip down and that was all. Hubby drove us everywhere we went in Myrtle Beach and then all the way home. In fact, I didn't drive the truck until this morning when I had to take hubby to pick up his work truck for the week.

7) Hotels are expensive. Granted, we found a pretty cheap room while we were down there, but you get what you pay for! On the drive back, we stopped at a hotel in Maryland to sleep and we paid an insane amount of money for it! I think there should be a cap on hotel rooms! (haha)

8) I hate bugs! On the trip down, I found a tick on me, which freaked me out. Then the next day at the hotel, I found another tick on me! The morning of the third day, I got into the shower, only to jump back out, soaking wet and run into our room to wake hubby. There was a water pincher bug on the ceiling of the shower stall. I thought I would die.

9) Dieting while on vacation is hard. I have been doing really well with my diet, but vacation blew it up! I ate so much food I didn't need and now that I'm home, I'm afraid to get on the scale to see how much weight I've put back on. But that means I am hitting the gym again this week, starting tonight!

On Wednesday, I will have my weekly updates, including some awesome news about Broken Dreams! So don't miss out!

Monday Updates 6/10/13

Wow, there is soo MUCH going on right now! I mean, it's just been a crazy week full of phone calls, emails, and lots of hard work!

If you didn't know, today is the official release day for the magazine I run with Ashleyn & Andrea: It's called Generation New Adult, and you can go take a look right here! Lots of great stuff inside and plenty to keep you busy!
At the moment, the distribution is available only on the site listed, but we are working with a formatter to get it available on Amazon, B&N, and Apple - We should know more about it in about two weeks. We are also looking into nationwide print distribution, which means if we go that route, you'll be able to buy our mag at the grocery store! So crazy to think about... But that's all in production. So if you want to buy it, go to the website and support us so we can get you the next issue in September!
Next item on the list: Broken Promises is on sale! It's just $0.99 until June 22! So grab your copy, if you haven't already, and share the sale with your friends!
Okay, so I have some amazing news! I am co-authoring a book with an amazing friend of mine! Andrea Heltsley, GNA Vice President, and I are writing a Young Adult contemporary romance novel! It's going very well, and we are hoping for a September release. It's coming together nicely, and since this is my very first YA book, I am super excited about it! We will probably do a cover reveal for it in July, so you can be on the lookout for that!
Last on today's list: Vacation! I will be away from the computer/website/email from June 14th - June 22. For the most part, I plan to stay away from anything work related and focus on getting my tan at the beach! I will be checking email fairly regularly, so if it's important, you can always get in touch with me, but if it can wait, you won't catch a reply from me until Sunday, the 23rd.
    Have a great weekend!!!

Cover Reveal for Broken Dreams!

Rainey Daniels has been keeping a secret since she left her hometown, three years ago. The death of a friend’s father, though, has her questioning whether or not running away from her past is what’s best for her future. Add sexy Chris Baker in the mix and she’s even more unsure. After all, life is short.
Baker is an all-around good guy with a great sense of humor struggling to keep his new bar afloat. And he always thought Rainey was hot, even when she carried a few extra pounds in high school. Hell, he thinks she’s too skinny now. He knows she’s hiding something, too, but when he pushes the issue, she pushes him away. He tries not to care; she only wants a summer fling, right? But when her life is threatened, he realizes he may just be in love with her… and then he learns her secret.

Top Ten Wednesday - Places to Vacation

Here are my Top Ten Places to vacation, in the United States (if money weren't an issue): Picture

10) New York City - I know how crazy it might sound, but I love roaming the streets of NYC! Picture 9) I have this crazy obsession with taking a trip to the San Diego Zoo! Some day, it will happen (also, I was born in the suburbs of SD, so I want to go there for sentimental purposes, too). Picture 8) Taking a cruise... I know with all the tragedies that have been happening lately on cruise ships, it's probably not a great idea. But I've always wanted to go. Picture 7) Boston is, by far, my favorite city. I know it and I've spent a lot of time there. Picture

6) The Moosehead area of Maine is one of the most beautiful places I've ever actually been. I enjoy spending time up there! Picture

5) Virginia Beach is pretty and I would definitely go back there for vacation! Picture

4) Orlando, Florida! But not for Disney - I did that as a kid and I'm over it. I would want to vacation at Universal! Picture

3) I think Niagara Falls speaks for itself... Picture

2) I have already spent a week in Myrtle Beach, SC and we have another week there planned later this month... I'd say it's a favorite for me!! Picture

1) Sandals is not technically in the US, but I couldn't help myself - I want to splurge and spend crazy amounts of money on a weeklong vacation to one of their hotspots. It would be amazing!

And there you have it - my vacay spots in the US (well, kind of)...
