Title: The Sound of Shooting StarsAuthor: Heather AllenGenre: Contemporary YAPublication Date: 11 November 2013Event organized by: Into the Night Reviews

Beckett Chase has been entitled her entire life. Living in the plush landscape of Palm Beach, Florida, she’s never wanted for anything. She’s always taken what and who she wants with no remorse. When she sets her sights on Jamie Grey and she’s met with rejection, her descent from the top begins.
With a twist of events causing Jamie and Beckett’s worlds to collide, will they be able to put aside their differences or will fate intervene offering an entirely different option?

Jamie was a firm favorite for me. Despite his challenging upbringing he still managed to retain a sense of optimism. He struggled with connecting with people and really, who could blame him given the life experiences he had, and yet there was definitely something about him that made me want to get to know him better.
Beckett Chase was your typical “high school beauty queen” ... although there was the ‘real’ side to her that actually challenged all the requirements of that role. Early in the story I couldn’t stand her and I wondered if she was ever going to be able to redeem herself. As the story unfolds there is a lot to learn about Beckett, her choices and her past that help you to understand who she is much better.
The story is told from both Jamie and Beckett’s point of view. I really like seeing two sides to the story, it broadens your perspective and helps to understand what is happening for the various characters. While there was also a really strong cast of other characters in the story, the focus is definitely Jamie and Beckett and I liked that that was the case. I felt immersed in their lives and not distracted by potential side stories.
For me The Sound of Shooting Stars was a sweet, teenage romance with just enough high school drama to make it interesting. It wasn’t straight forward, so the twists were unpredictable and added to my engagement with the story and characters. I loved that way it all came together at the end - it left me feeling satisfied that all the characters got what they deserved and I felt like the time I’d spent reading was a good investment. I’ve read Heather’s other books and have to say that I think this one is my favorite so far!

In the Spotlight: Thursday Nights by Lisa N. Paul

Thursday Night by Lisa N. Paul is a part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Each book in the series will be about another couple and Storm Front (The Charistown Series, Book #2) is due to be released in January 2014.

Author: Lisa N. PaulTitle: Thursday NightsSeries and Book#: The Charistown Series – Book #1Genre: Contemporary Erotic RomanceReleased: May 6, 2013

“Pain can leave even the strongest of people weak and hollow
Max DeLucca has spent seven years trying to forget the betrayal of his past.
He lives his life from day to day never looking forward and never looking back.
The walls around his heart keep anyone from getting too close and prevent him from feeling too much… until he meets her.
Her entire life, Janie Silver searched for the kind of love that wouldn’t leave her broken and more importantly, wouldn't leave her behind. She longs for a love that can heal the wounds of her past and give her the future she knows she deserves.
She thought she was looking for something that just didn’t exist…until she meets him.
Danny’s on Main is where their story begins.
A neighborhood bar where strangers become friends, friends become family
and some … become lovers
… it all started on Thursday Nights”

Watch the book trailer here

Removing his hand from her leg, Max placed both hands on the steering wheel of his black Ferrari Spider. Janie held in the whimper that threatened to escape from the loss of his touch.
Max pulled over to the side of the road, and she felt the butterflies once again trying to take flight. Why was he stopping? Had he changed his mind? “Janie,” he said, his voice strong but calm.
“Janie, look at me. I need to see your eyes.” She looked into his grassy-green orbs. Callused fingers stroked her jaw, sending shivers through her body. “I won’t hurt you. Your body is safe with me. Do you understand?”
She wasn’t sure she did, but she nodded silently, the innocent, doe-eyed look on her face bringing out his every possessive instinct. “Words Janie, I need words,” Max demanded.
“I think I understand, Max.” She couldn’t help the breathless tone in her voice. “But what is this about?”
He inhaled, holding the air in his lungs for an extra second before letting it go, his eyes smoldering while his body still held the relaxed pose that had become so familiar to her. She could hear her own heart beating, and she could also hear it stop when the next statement left Max’s lips. “I intend to fuck you tonight, Janie.
I intend to fuck you very well. I am going to make you come in every way imaginable. With my fingers, my tongue, and my cock. I am going to do things to you that you and Lyla have only teased about at Danny’s, things that you have fantasized about, and things that have never even crossed your mind. You will have a say in whether or not we stop, but Janie, you will not have a say on whether it is your place or mine. Got it?”
She stared at Max her mouth formed an O. She was thoroughly and truly speechless. So she nodded again.
“Words, Janie. I need words.”
“Ok,” Her heartbeat started speeding up again as Max’s car did the same.

There is so much potential for further stories about all of the characters - Lyla and Gage, Ashley and Ryan, Kyle, even Danny and Julie and I'm invested enough in all of them to be hoping that Lisa N. Paul does write them all a book! While there were many characters to love, Thursday Night was primarily about Janie and Max and "sex with friends".
Janie has had a succession of poor choice relationships leaving her questioning her worth and whether she will ever find a good man who will love and cherish her. Her self worth is low, although she masks it with humour and sass. Her friendship with Lyla - her sister in every sense of the word but the actual family relationship - gives her some confidence and the encouragement she needs to try and be stronger. Max is a man with a shattered heart. Brutally betrayed by his wife he has closed off the thought of ever having a relationship again.
The two form a friendship when Janie and Lyla start hanging out at the bar Max works at every Thursday night, Danny’s on Main. The friendship between them is strong and part of the extended group that comes together for 'family' dinner every Sunday night. It's not until the fateful night that Lyla utters the words "sex with friends" that Janie and Max dare to acknowledge their attraction to each other and take things to the next level.
Let me tell you there are some steamy, steamy sex scenes in Thursday Night. Janie and Max share a couple of intense encounters and what they feel for each other, beyond the physical is very evident. Despite their attraction, what follows for them is a series of heartaches as they seek to come to terms with their past, their present and the feelings they have for each other.
I got really caught up in this story, hoping for a particular outcome but never really convinced it would come to fruition. Max's relationship history had significant consequences for him and he struggled to move forward, too scared to risk trusting a woman again. Janie was fighting hard to develop a sense of self worth and to believe she was worthy of 'more'. As the two grappled with their feelings Janie managed to find a strength she didn't realise she possessed, the courage to finally stand on her own resulting in some very difficult choices to be made. Watching the struggle play out was like watching two of my dearest friends and it was wonderful that there was this group of people around them both, helping, supporting and being there as they resolved what their relationship would be.
Lisa N. Paul has an engaging writing style that formed a strong connection between me and all of the characters in her story. I will be recommending Thursday Night widely and definitely watching for the release of her next book, Storm Front.
4 out of 5 stars

When not writing, Lisa can be found eating french fries and Godiva raspberry truffles, or hanging out with her husband and two sons.

Blog Tour: The Thrill of It by Lauren Blakely

Welcome to our stop on the blog tour for The Thrill of It by Lauren Blakely. This is a fabulous story about sex, love and addiction and two people's battle to recover. It's my first Lauren Blakely, but it won't be my last!!

Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it's the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love...Love isn't patient, love isn't kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that's how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I've never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I'm being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don't regret.
Trey...
With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She's the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she's back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don't know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she's the closest I've ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.
How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?

Harley is a self proclaimed sex and love addict. Interestingly, and almost ironically, she is also a virgin and a high class call girl. Driven to her choices in life as a consequence of a rather unhealthy relationship with her mother Harley seeks control through her call girl activities. She very successfully quarantines 'Layla' (her call girl persona) from the rest of her life activites and despite her mother's approach to their relationship, which is one of best friends rather than mother and daughter, her mother is blissfully unaware of Layla.
Despite Harley/Layla's caution someone becomes aware of her activities and in fact is blackmailing her, threatening to disclose her identity to her mother, who also happens to be a very successful investigative reporter, responsible for unearthing political scandal - again, rather ironic.
The night before Harley/Layla enters into a year long sex addict rehabilitation program she heads to a tattoo parlor and meets Trey. The two connect, intimately, for what they both expect to be a one night, but imagine their suprise when Trey also turns up at the rehabilitation program.
In an attempt to bury the pain of a dysfunctional family Trey has turned to women as his drug of choice. Recognising that he has an addiction, he has entered into the rehabilitation program in an effort to kick his habit. His encounter with 'Layla' is a last fling, although he is completely unprepared for the impact she has on him and his inability to get her out of his mind.
The relationship between Harley and Trey was wonderful to read. They are both so broken they don't trust their feelings are genuine and worry that what is growing between them is simply another element of their addiction. They're both committed to recovery and yet are challenged by the growing feelings they have for each other. Despite their fears and despite their history of hiding who they are and their addiction, they manage to be honest with each other. As with any addiction Harley and Trey battle their demons, their resolve is tested and they must make choices that are never straight forward. They didn't always make the 'right' choice, but what I was impressed with was that they were willing to make tough choices, often inspired by each other to do what was uncomfortable.
The story is told from both characters point of view, so we get to understand what each is thinking. I really like this approach and understanding what is happening from different perspectives. Blakely has a wonderful writing style. I found myself thinking about the characters when I wasn't reading, wondering how their journey would play out and what the outcome for both of them would be. There were some other very interesting characters in this story as well. Hayley's mother was a key driver to the choices Hayley made and I was quite astounded that she could be such a success professionally and yet such a dismal parent to Harley. Really, the story was full of broken characters and it was rather amazing that Hayley and Trey were able to find each other and help each other on their path to recovery.
Overall I really enjoyed The Thrill of It. My greatest disappointment was with the ending. I felt like I was given a teaser of what was going to be and then the story stopped. While there is the promise of a next instalment in this story I really felt like The Thrill of It wasn't concluded in a way that was satisfying for me. Having said that I will watch for book two, Every Second With You, so that I can see what does happen next 4 out 5 stars

Determined to follow her father’s advice—head up and chin high—Lili finds herself in a new city, taking on a new system, this time healthcare. In doing so, she gets something she never expected, an intimate behind-the-scenes look at life in the hospital.

“See something you like?” He smirked.
“Mm-hmm.”
“Baby, if you don’t stop looking at me like that I’m never gonna get out of here.”
“Truth. Sounds perfect to me.” Now I smirked.
“Ahh fuck, you’re killing me. You know scrubs don’t hide a hard-on very well.”
I laughed. He had a point there.
Leaning down, he kissed my nose. “Text you in a bit, see how your day is going...”
“K.”
So was this my life? I sunk back into the fluffy pillows and sighed. I wanted this to be my morning every morning.

Make that AuthorS
Yep. That's an “s.” There are two of us!
We’re East coast girls separated by Long Island Sound who met in Physician Assistant School and have been besties ever since. We can safely say that thirteen miles of water does not get in the way because we talk or text, no exaggeration, at least 150 times a day. No, really, we do—about everything and nothing. Shockingly, we never (we mean never) run out of things to say. Umm, ever. We definitely laugh A LOT and we’re a tad sarcastic. And if we’re being totally honest, one or two people might have, on occasion, used our names and ‘dramatic’ in the same sentence. But it’s hard to trust the sources since they married us.
It only took twelve years, two husbands, five kids, two dogs, and a two-week vacation in Cape Cod later to decide the romance world needed a splash of medicine. Write what you know.
So you can easily find us at 4 o'clock on Bank Street beach with a glass of cold Prosecco brainstorming. And guaranteed if we bump into you, literally, it’s only because our iPhones are glued to our hands (totally out of our control) either writing or editing our next novel (and yes, it is possible to do from your iPhone, we mastered it … damn those straight quotations).
When we are not working on our book or reading the latest angsty romance on our kindles, you basically name it and we have it going on. Soccer, lacrosse, golf, swimming, dance, gymnastics, football, chess, baseball, basketball, skiing, ice skating, school, homework, and more school.
Oh yeah, did we forget to mention our careers in medicine?
Needless to say, we realized fast that something had to go, so we opted for sleep. It’s completely overrated (yet so AMAZING) and delirium makes everything funnier. Good thing we share a brain and can pretty much complete each other’s sentences (definitely weird, we know), otherwise it might have taken us two years to write Beautifully Awake rather than one.
So that’s our story, who we are … just add AUTHORS to the list!

When Amy’s mum dies, the last thing she expects is to be kicked off her dad’s music tour all the way to her Aunt Lou in a depressing hole of a seaside town. But it’s okay — Amy learned how to cope with the best, and soon finds a hard-drinking, party-loving crowd to help ease the pain.
The only solace is her music class, but even there she can’t seem to keep it together, sabotaging her grade and her one chance at a meaningful relationship. It takes a hard truth from her only friend before Amy realises that she has to come to terms with her past, before she destroys her future.

A beautiful, spiritual story about a woman who meets the man of her dreams — and then wakes up...
The last thing Leah thought she’d get out of a shocking car accident was the perfect boyfriend. But there was Brennan in the hospital bed next to hers — equal parts charm, cheek, and chocolate. Their relationship, their love, her life, is almost too good to be true.
Then, to Leah’s horror, she discovers that it is. Her new life with Brennan is only a fabrication of her injured mind — a coma dream that ends when she wakes up.
Struggling with injuries and grieving for a man that never existed, Leah battles to put her life back together. But a series of coincidences hint that for some people, love can transcend all barriers and achieve the impossible.

From the author of Arranged to Love comes a romantic story of forgiveness, secrets, small towns and second chances.
Ten years ago, Todd Lansing stood over his father’s grave, his heart thumping out curses on Sia Collins for causing his death. When he returns to Oberon and sees Sia again, his heart thumps with a different emotion, one he fights with all the anger he still feels.
Sia didn’t commit the break-in that ended up killing Mr Lansing, but to admit that would send her father to jail.
