Review Tour: All the Pretty Lies by M. Leighton

We are so excited to be part of the Review Tour for M. Leighton's All the Pretty Lies !!!

All the Pretty Lies
“Live, no regrets”

Her...

Sloane Locke has led a sheltered life. However, with a history like hers, she can understand why her brothers and her father want so much to protect her. She has gone along with it for twenty long years, but those days are over. For the girl who never makes promises, Sloane has made a pact with herself that things will change on her twenty-first birthday. So when the clock strikes midnight, Sloane strikes out to spread her wings and break a few rules.

Him…

In addition to inking skin, Hemi Spencer possesses many talents. Controlling himself has never been one of them. It’s never had to be. He’s lived a life of indulgence for as long as he can remember. Right up until tragedy struck. Now, he’s nothing but controlled. He’s a man on a mission, one who will let nothing and no one stand in his way.

Them…Nothing in their lives could’ve prepared Sloane and Hemi for what they’d find in each other—distraction and obsession, love and possession. But the one thing they can’t find is a future. Neither one has been totally honest. And they’ll soon learn that the devil is in the details. In the details and in the lies.

How far will two people go to live in the now when the now is all they’ve got?ALL THE

Fantastic characters that you want to know more of, a fabulous plot that keeps you on your toes and a male character that you now deem as your current book boy friend. Yes please and sign me up!

All the Pretty Lies left me with one hell of a book hangover. You know the kind. The kind that you can't stop thinking about long after you've finished. Or you can't stop comparing your current book to the characters in APL. It's that good!!

Awe, I loved Sloane! She yearns to be free. Free from her over protective policeman brothers and father. She has a best friend that encourages her trying new things and being 'free'. Sloane was a character that I couldn't help but like.

Hemi... Lord have mercy Hemi. The name says it all doesn't it? I was in love from page 1. No kidding! He wasn't the typical bad boy. I didn't see him like that at all. Yes, he's a tattoo artist but so much more. He sees something in Sloane that he deems different from all others he's come across. And she is in more ways than one...

A tattoo and art may have brought these two together but there is so much more than that. A mystery lurks and keeps us on our toes throughout the story and we learn a lot more about Sloane and Hemi's past.

I could totally see the possibilities of so many different books stemming from this first stellar book in the series. So many characters to learn and love.

My dear you've done it again. You have me invested in these characters that I can't wait to know and hear about. Bravo to you my friend!! <3

5 fabulous stars

Blog Tour: Ink My Heart by Jean Haus

Title: Ink My Heart (Luminescent Juliet, #2)Author: Jean Haus
Release date: November 12, 2013
Publisher: Skyscape
Age Group: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Tour organized by: AToMR Tours

Even if he weren’t the lead singer of the popular college band, Luminescent Juliet, Justin Noel would have his pick of women. And he does pick. Nightly. Tattooed, blonde, and green eyed, he flashes his dimples and females swoon.

Except for one.

Tattoo artist, Allie Landon, rarely dates, and especially not men like Justin. Though he’s hot enough to melt off permanent ink, she’s done with the bad boy type. But when the ex who broke her heart wants to reunite, desperation has Allie introducing her latest client as her boyfriend. Justin’s more than happy to play the part. He’s completely intrigued by the sexy artist and college student.

However, Allie’s life isn’t what it seems. There’s little room in it or her shattered and confused heart for Justin. But as Justin remains persistent, ignoring the growing attraction—both physical and emotionally—between them becomes more difficult than tattoo removal.

*New Adult. Recommended for mature readers due to language, drug references, and sexual situations

Allie’s POV

“Um, if you take off your shirt, we can make sure I’m putting it exactly where you want.”

“Trying to undress me?” he asks with a grin.

I shoot him a level, emotionless glare. I’m not Mandy. I’m not into playing flirtatious games. Not sure if I’d even remember how. If I ever knew how.

His response to my look is to slowly—it’s too slow to me—unbutton his shirt, then reach for the bottom of his tank and lift it off in a sensual motion. Shirt gone, his eyes connect with mine—and I’m once again telling myself his gaze is just part of his flirty nature. But it’s still very hot. And regrettably I’m not immune.

Ignoring the reawakening of my stupid hormones, I gesture to the long mirrors in the corner. “Show me again where you want the tattoo.”

He stalks over to the corner, glances over his shoulder, and runs a finger along his spine. The movement is as sexy as the last time he did it. “I’m thinking here. Or do you think lower would be better?”

His muscular chest is facing me. His defined back is in the mirrors. Um . . . Damn. Though a flush travels over my skin, I force myself to consider his question and not devour him with my eyes, but the picture he makes is stunning. Something I’d like to re-create with harsh brush strokes in black-and-white. I clear my throat. “I think a few inches lower would spatially work better.”

Jean Haus writes young adult and romance novels. She reads a lot too. Anything with a bit of romance has the possibility of being loaded on her Kindle. She even does a bit of cooking, which is actually quite good. She also golfs in the beautiful summers of Michigan with her awesome husband and son, but she cooks way, way better than she golfs.

Cover Reveal: Beautiful Failure by Mariah Cole

Title: Beautiful FailureAuthor: Mariah ColeGenre: New Adult RomanceExpected Release Date: December 12, 2013

If you're looking for a heartwarming story about a girl who falls deeply in love with a troubled boy who changes her life— a sob story with pretty metaphors and a million ways that'll tell you how "broken" she is, STOP. Don't read another word of this.

I'm not that type of girl.
My name is Emerald Anderson and I'm not going to bullshit you: I flunked out of college after my sophomore year, I've been fired from every job I've ever taken, and I've never had a fully functioning relationship in my life.
I wish I could say that I had a cheerleader in my corner, someone who says, "No, Emerald—You're great and you are good at something!" but I don't. My grandparents are completely oblivious to my life, and my mother's dying words to me were "You're going to end up just like me one day. A beautiful nothing."
She was right.
As I decide to start my life over and take two jobs that will forever change me--one from the inside, and one from the outside, I keep my mother's words close to my heart so I can keep the sexy and mysterious Carter Black away. He's the first man who's ever pursued me, the first man who seems bent on finding out why I am the way I am, but he's wasting his time. I'm not broken. I don't need to be fixed. I'm perfectly fine being a beautiful failure.

YouTube Video Trailer

Prologue

*subject to change before publication*

My mother was a whore.
Her name was Leah Isabelle Anderson—“Leah Belle” for short, and she was one of New Jersey’s most sought after escorts.
With deep green eyes that could take any man’s breath away, and skin so porcelain and smooth that it looked too perfect to touch, she was breathtakingly beautiful. Often compared to a supermodel, her raven black hair fell past her shoulders, and her naturally long eyelashes were always coifed to perfection.
Growing up, I had no idea what she did with the men who picked her up in their shiny and expensive cars—the men who wore thousand dollar suits and patted me on the head while saying, “Your mom is really something special.”
In a way, these strangers became the closest thing I had to a family since I never knew my father: Her regulars, Christian and William, sent me gifts every Christmas. Arnie bought me my first bike, Steve taught me how to change a tire, and her most ruthless suitor—Vincent, took me shopping for designer clothes once a month.
Leah Belle—she never ever let me call her “mom,” wasn’t exactly a mother to me; she was more like an older friend. An older ‘I’ll-be-there-when-it’s-convenient’ friend.
She missed every elementary school play, every middle school writing competition, and never gave a damn about my grades. At first, the involuntary loneliness bothered me, but after I created an army of invisible friends and easily accessible fantasies, I came to terms with her neglect and happily accepted any attention she was willing to give me.
When I became a teenager, she started to hang around me more often—promising that she would do better, promising that she would make sure that “from here on out, [we’d] be best friends.” Since she’d run away from her parents after having me at sixteen, she made a point to never lecture or discipline me. But, she did teach me three very important lessons:
1.) “Always put tons of effort into the way you look. You need to be beautiful on the outside, no matter how fucked up you are on the inside. If you ever feel sad or depressed, suck that shit up and add more mascara.”
2.) “Don’t make friends. Make sponsors. If you can’t get anything out of someone or use them for a specific purpose, kick that person out of your life ASAP.”
3.) “Beauty wins over brains every time. Your body will always be your most important asset. Remember that.”
For my fourteenth birthday, she poured me my first shot and offered me a short line of coke, saying, “Welcome to life, Em!”
I shook my head at the coke—I’d read about the effects, but I happily took the red shot glass from her hand.
“To the best fuckin’ daughter in the world!” She lifted her glass in the air, waiting for me to do the same, and then she ordered me to toss it back.
The initial burning sensation was painful—disgusting, but in the years to come, that bitterness tasted better and better, and I looked forward to the two of us drinking together. It was the only time that she gave me her undivided attention.
In those moments, I would tell her about another writing competition I’d won or how I’d received more early college scholarships. When it was her turn, she would tell me about “turning tricks” like other parents told their kids about a day at the office.
“I can’t tell you how weak Ben’s dick was today,” she’d say. “I mean, I feel like I should be charging him double for the weak ass fucks he puts me through.”
“You don’t enjoy it with him? Ever?” I’d ask.
“No. Never with him. But he’s a sponsor, I’m getting his money, and that’s all that matters. I just lie there, scratch his back, and say ‘Harder… Harder’ to make him think I’m into it until—”
“Until he cums?”
“Yep.” She’d pass me a cigarette before sighing. “With him and a few others, I usually have to take a few shots beforehand to numb my mind. With the really good ones, all I have to do is relax. Sex can be fucking incredible when it’s done right…”
One particular Friday, after she let one of her regulars take me shopping for a Chanel bag, I unlocked the door to our home and saw droplets of blood all over the floor.
“Leah?” I set my shopping bag down. “Did you get another nose bleed?”
No answer.
I headed into the kitchen, looking for her usual remedies—hot tea and Q tips, but she wasn’t there.
“You here?” I walked around our living room and checked all the rooms upstairs. Confused, I pulled out my cell phone and called her.
No answer again. I shrugged and opened a bottle of vodka, tossing back a few shots. I figured she’d left with one of her sponsors for a quickie and would be back by the time our favorite show started.
I decided to take a shower before it came on and headed into the downstairs bathroom.
The second I hit the lights, my heart fell out of my chest. I wanted to believe that what I was seeing was simply a sick joke by my imagination—a twisted fantasy I’d snap out of in seconds.
Pale and blue, Leah’s body lay lifeless in our tub. Her left arm was dangling over the edge, and the small velvet bag where she kept her cocaine was dangling from her fingertips.
Scattered across the floor were hundreds of prescription pills and empty orange bottles that bore the names of strangers. On the vanity, there was an empty syringe and a folded note that read “For my Em…”
Trembling, I rushed to her side and pressed my finger against her neck, hoping for a pulse.
Nothing.
I tilted her head back and tried to breathe life into her—pressing her chest with my hands every few seconds, but it was no use.
She was gone.
I sank down to the floor in tears—cursing her, hating her, for doing this to me. To us.
I had no friends to call, no family either, so in my numb and dazed state I somehow managed to call 9-1-1. While the operator attempted to calm me down by asking me to take deep breaths, I walked over to the vanity and unfolded Leah’s last note:

Em,
I know you’re confused right now, but I want you to know that I love you. I love you so fucking much… You were the only thing that made my life worth living, and I wish I was strong enough to keep that in mind…
I’m not.
I’m tired of living a lie and I haven’t been happy in a very long time… I just can’t take it anymore…
I’ve fucked up a lot of things in my life, but the biggest regret I have is the way I raised you…I’m so sorry… This is going to be hard for you to believe—especially since I’m gone, but I need you to forget all that shit I taught you. Right now.
Fuck using your looks to get what you want. Go to college and do some good shit with your life, like write or something. You’re a good writer, you’re very smart, and you need to use your brain to get ahead. Can you promise to do that for me, Em?
Then again…It’s probably too late and I’m willing to bet that you’ll end up just like me: A beautiful nothing…
It won’t be your fault though. It’ll be—
I stopped reading and flushed that note down the toilet. Her last words were clearly written out of sadness and they were only compounding my pain.
As far as I was concerned, Leah had raised me the best she could and she was far from a “beautiful nothing” in my eyes. In fact, I cherished every single thing she’d taught me.
Even though I was beyond hurt that she’d selfishly left me all alone, I was determined to remember her at her best and for everything she was to me:
My mother.
My best friend.
My role model.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Come to Me Quietly comes  a scorching new adult romance in the
Closer to You series.

A second chance at life…

A second chance at love…

Jared Holt never thought he deserved either—until he found both in the arms of Aly Moore. Aly has loved Jared for as long as she can remember, and she’s more than ready for the future they’re making together. But Jared can’t help remembering his own family. And he’ll never forgive himself for what happened to them. How can he allow himself the very happiness he once destroyed?
To live a life worthy of Aly, Jared knows he has to stop running and finally put his past to rest. But when he decides to face his demons head on, he encounters more than he bargained for: a dangerous mix of jealousy, lies, and dishonest intentions. When those intentions threaten Aly, Jared loses all control, giving into the rage that earned him his bad boy reputation years before. And he’ll fight to protect her no matter what it costs…even if he destroys himself in the process.

I gasped when strong. arms wrapped around me from behind. Then I melted when he buried his face in my neck. Jared spun me around and pressed me up against the cool metal of my car door. His hands were on my face, in my hair, slipping down my sides before he brought them back up to force me to look at him. “Thank you.” Desperation poured from him, his hold increasing as he stared down at the shock I felt lining my face. “Thank you for fucking believing in me, Aly. For getting me.”
Fear lashed across his face. Or maybe it was remorse. He swallowed hard, his voice hardened with strain. “I’m scared to think of where I’d be right now without you.”
That fear that had flashed on his face coiled in my stomach. Because I didn’t know where he’d been. Had no idea where the last three months had taken him. How far. How low.
I wasn’t sure I wanted to know.
“You’re here with me now.” I had to believe that was all that mattered.
He grimaced. Gripping my face, he leaned down and kissed me, hard and demanding. There was no soft affection, none of the playfulness from upstairs. This was a seal. A branding. He jerked back. A storm raged in the blue of his eyes. “Don’t think I can’t see all those questions burning in your mind, Aly. And I may not have all the answers right now, but we are going to figure this out. Do you understand me? I promise you that.” And I saw it all there, the torment that plagued Jared, this beautiful man who had lost his way, the one desperate to find his way home.

Two people. One fake relationship. What could go wrong?

When virgin Shannon Travers gets fed up with her friends demanding that she find a boyfriend, she enlists the help of tattooed, mohawk-rocking graphic design student Jett. He’s more than happy to play along with their Fake Relationship, including the Ten Rules of Fake Dating that control-freak Shannon comes up with. Even if he likes to violate them. Repeatedly.

But what happens when Fake Dating starts to feel… not fake anymore? Will Shannon be willing to let go and embrace the first thing in her life that’s ever felt REAL?

“Wake up, princess,” a male voice I only sort-of recognize says in my ear. My eyes are slow to open and I’m staring right at a chest I don’t remember falling asleep on. I lift my chin and meet a set of gorgeous brown-gold eyes.

“Hey,” he says, his voice soft as I realize I’m lying on top of him. At some point during the movie, he’d shifted under me and brought both our sets of legs up on the couch and laid back, pulling me so we’re front to front. My boobs are completely squished into his chest, which is the first thing that makes me try to shift off him.

“Um, hey,” I say as I struggle to get off him, but there’s no place to put my hands, so I end up trying to roll and he tries to help me, but I end up tipping too far off the couch, banging the back of my head on the coffee table and landing on my side on the floor with a crash.

“Oh my gosh, are you okay?” Is he laughing?

“Ow,” I say. I’m awake now. There’s a sharp pain in my hip, and in my skull. Jett reaches down and hauls me up.

“You’re laughing at me,” I say as I feel the back of my head.

“No I’m not,” he says, while trying to contain his laughter.

“Asshole,” I say, but he’s still holding onto me.

“Where does it hurt?” he says, finally showing some concern.

“The back of my head and my hip banged on the floor. That’s gonna leave a mark.” He walks around me and tenderly moves my hair out of the way to look at my soon-to-be-bumpy head. I go all tingly again, and the pain fades just a little. This guy is better than Tylenol. And then I feel something warm right where the bump is and I swear her just kissed it.

“And your hip?” he says, his voice low.

Is it possible to die from anticipation? Because I think I just did. Jett crouches down and I swear I’m going to have a seizure if he does what I think he’s going to do.

And then he very carefully places the lightest of kisses on my hipbone and OH MY GOD I SWEAR I CAN FEEL HIS LIPS THROUGH MY JEANS AND I’M GOING TO DIE NOW.

Demons.
They’re everywhere, hiding in plain sight. Chances are, you’ve interacted with one or two of them in your lifetime without even realizing it...

Demon hunter Evelyn Brighton saves unsuspecting humans from the malevolent creatures masquerading around them every day. Working under the Lebriga Corporation’s direction, she never fails to bring her A-game with her keen skill, fiercely independent spirit, and the best weapon in her arsenal: the Divinity blade.

Evelyn’s world is turned on its ear, however, when she is ordered to train cocky new recruit Daniel Summers. They both feel an instinctive pull drawing them to one another, the ancient spells tattooed into their skin illuminating whenever the two hunters come into contact. But with evil looming over the city of Los Angeles, Evelyn and Daniel’s mutual competitiveness and sense of duty to Lebriga and all humankind forces them to hold back their desires. Will their restraint be enough to keep them focused and save southern California, or will the dark forces prevail?

Set in modern-day Los Angeles, Divinity is an action-filled, fast-paced marriage of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Edgy, witty, and sexy, it will bind you in its spell.

Exclusive excerpt from Divinity’s upcoming sequel, Entity…
“What’s a Spectoral?” Daniel asked.

“A Spectoral demon is a nasty one, and quite wily, as Zachery pointed out,” Alex explained. “They have no physical body, therefore they must inhabit a host of sorts, preferably humans. When they enter into the physical body of a human, they bind themselves to the soul, taking over everything about that individual. Some possessions, if you will, happen at a very young age, unfortunately, but theoretically it could happen at any point in a human’s life. These demons liken themselves to Gods. They crave the power, followers to do their bidding. Some of the more notable Spectorals have caused quite a ruckus in the human world. Jim Jones, David Koresh, and, of course, Charles Manson. As you would imagine, Spectorals are notoriously cult leaders.

“Over the years, the main office has observed a presence. This entity has shown itself in several different venues, lingering just long enough for us to catch a trail before it vanishes, only to resurface in a year or so elsewhere.”

“Sounds like Anabael,” Z said, straightening in his chair. “She’s one cagey-ass bitch, and as far as I know, she’s the only one that moves like that.”

“Precisely,” Alex confirmed with a nod. “She favors the more subtle approach, heading up companies that lure in humans using one of their greatest weaknesses, money. You’ll find her behind some of the biggest consultant-driven organizations, raising them to near cult status before she moves on to a new venture. Her newest business enterprise is one you may have heard of, Beautiful Illuminations.”

That name sounded familiar. I seemed to recall a late-night junk TV session with Tess when we’d caught an infomercial starring a gaggle of girls explaining how they had all this extra money to buy clothes and crap because they’d started selling some junk. If I remembered correctly, the big draw was that you could get “Paid to Party,” which seemed to make all their little ditzy friends squeal. Yeah, that had to be it; I distinctly remember holding back the urge to barf.

“Is that the one that’s supposed to be empowering for young women?” I asked. “Something like ‘Made by women for women’ and ‘Be your own woman while you’re young’ and ‘Take what you want from life’ or some shit like that?”

“That is the very one. And I’m pleased to see you know so much about the company already, Evelyn.”

Oh piss, Alex had that look. The one with the serious face and pinchy eyebrows. Damn it, that was a bad look. A seriously bad look.

Patricia Leever is a wife, stay-at-home mom of four and owner of one dog and one really old cat. On the average school day she runs about town like a lunatic picking up and dropping off kids and trying to find a moment of quiet to write down a word or two.

She's a sci-fi geek that loves to dress up like a zombie and participate in the local zombie march down Main St. and laugh as much as possible; laughter frees the mind and heals the soul.

Live. Breathe. Write.

Lost in France is an erotic contemporary romance novel set in Paris, the city of Love and Romance. Part 1 of 3 in the exciting new Firebird Series.

Offered a thrilling new job, Rebecca flees her tormented past, putting as much distance between herself and her ex-lover, wanting a fresh beginning in a foreign city.

On the airplane she meets Alain, a dangerously handsome Frenchman, who seduces her with his charming European ways. But her new boss, super arrogant CEO, Maxwell Grant, doesn't like her entanglement with the Frenchman; he wants Rebecca to himself...

Rebecca hates her boss and tells him in so many words - a career limiting move if ever there was one...

Is Rebecca jumping from one hotter-than-hell fire into another? And will she finally find what she is looking for?

Meet Alain, French winemaker, aristocrat and owner of a chateaux in Bordeaux:

He lifted the hem of my nightdress, exposing my flesh as his gaze drank me in. His pace was torturous – as if he wanted to slowly imprint every second into his memory. Panting already, a pool of liquid settled between my legs even though he wasn’t touching me, only his eyes were burning me alive.

Writhing on the bed, I wanted my Frenchman to touch me, to run his hands over me, but he kept going, exposing first my naked mound, then higher, exposing my breasts till he finally lifted it over my head. Gripping the sheets, I moaned softly – I couldn’t wait for him to make love to me. My nipples were hard and he hadn’t touched me yet.

I reached out for him, but he quickly sidestepped.

“No touching,” he growled. He grabbed both my wrists and tied them to the bedpost with the bandage he had removed from my ankle.

I watched in awe as he slowly removed his clothing from his body. I licked my lips as his glorious erection sprang free. I hadn’t had him in my mouth for the longest time.

He crawled back onto the bed and lay beside me, not touching me, his cock throbbing, letting his gaze linger on my body till I could scream for him to touch me. A slow smile spread over his face before he leaned over and kissed me on the mouth, his breath controlled, still not touching my body.

“Alain. Please.”

“I’ve dreamt of this moment, of having you here again,” he said as his finger traced my body, from my throat to my navel. “I want to kiss every inch of your skin.” I couldn’t take this slow pace, I wanted him inside me.

Now.

He sensed my urgency as I moaned, wriggling to free myself from the constraints of the bandages. Every nerve ending in my body was on high alert.

“So hot for me, Cherie,” he said in his familiar way, a boyish grin on his face. Only caressing me with his tongue, he slowly licked his way down my body, covering every inch of it, exploring it as if it was our first time together. I was in agony, pleasure and pain spilling over me simultaneously as the throbbing between my legs grew needier.

“This is what you make me feel, Cherie,” he said, his accent heavy so that I had to strain my ears to understand him. “You torture me when you’re away. I want you to feel the longing in your body. It is the same longing I feel for you – every time you leave me.”

“Alain…”

“Hush,” he covered my mouth with his. I tried desperately to rub myself against him, wanting him to break as I knew he finally would, filling me with every inch of him. I arched my back and raised my mound to him, offering myself up to him. He pulled away.

“Touch me, please Alain, touch me,” I pleaded. He parted my legs and blew on my mound. I writhed under the heat of his breath. It wasn’t enough.

“So ready for me,” he teased with a wicked grin, his hair falling over his eyes.

God I want him, he is driving me crazy.

I was ready to beg. “Take me. Please. Just take me.”

“You. Drive. Me. Crazy.” He echoed my thoughts. “Going with another man, sleeping in his bed…I want to go mad at the thought of him touching you – ”

So this was his game. Revenge.

His head disappeared between my legs.

Thank God. At last.

I thrust my hips forward, eager for his mouth on me.

“So fucking wet, Cherie,” he rumbled from deep within his chest.

My nipples were hard as stone, I wanted his hands on my breasts, his fingers inside me. I nearly spasmed when just the tip of his tongue touched my clit, licking it slowly, torturing me with his slow, slow pace.

I squeezed my eyes shut, this was absolute hell. Pleasure from his tongue drove me crazy, yet just as I got to the edge, just as I wanted to climax, he stopped. I never knew I could be tortured this way. I moaned, hoping to entice him into me. It worked before.

But this time it had the opposite effect on him.

Jani has been married for a long time to a special man, and her two children and their partners are the sunshine in her life. She is a voracious reader and would spend her last dollar on a book - always fascinated that for the mere price of a book, she can escape her world for a while and see through someone else's eyes.

Besides reading, her favorite 'thing' is traveling - she has traveled the world, learning about the ways people live and has come to the realization that no matter where we live, we all ultimately want the same things. Her hobby - Scrapbooking - keeps her up till way after midnight and her usual subjects are her family and her travels.

Ever since she can remember, Jani wanted to write stories about people, about their lives and loves. Relationships and Happiness - arguably the most difficult things to master in life and yet exactly what everyone ultimately desires (in her humble opinion).

He gets what he wants, but he soon finds that there are three people in their lives, him, Burn and Brody. A messy triangle that lasts for years ensues.

“First rule of business – gotta be a win-win situation, know what I’m saying?”

“Eh, well, I don’t have a business and I don’t have much to give you. How much are you wanting?”

“I don’t want your money!” His tone is scoffing.

“Oh, okay.” I scratch my head and look at him. Maybe I should talk about me changing my story about the gun incident? “There’s nothing else I can give you that you’d …”

“I want you.” His voice is almost a whisper.

I look at him with huge eyes. “I’m seventeen!” I blurt.

He shrugs.

I frown. “I …I don’t do shit like that. Ever.”

“Ever?”

I shake my head.

“How come?” His tone tells me he doesn’t believe me.

My turn to shrug. “I’m doing it right. I’m waiting for the right guy before I give it up.”

His eyes turn to slits.

“And I want to be eighteen when it happens.”

“You serious?”

“Yeah.”

“Not even for white boy?”

“Not even for white boy.”

He folds his arms across his chest. “Don’t know if I believe you. I mean, you’re here asking me to save your boy, but you tell me that you haven’t given it up to him as yet, even though you …?”

“Love him? Yes. But I guess he doesn’t want to go to jail either.” I take a deep breath and cover my eyes with my hand. “Can we talk about something else? I’m getting really awkward here.”

He smiles.

“Back to your question – seriously, what do you want from me in return?”

“That.” Again, his voice is soft but serious.

I peer at him in disbelief. He wants my virginity? Is he fucking nuts? “I told you, I’m seventeen. You’ll go to prison and a pretty boy like you will get lots of sex there.”

He smiles.

“I’ll wait till you’re eighteen.” His voice is way too serious for my liking.

I stare at him, flabbergasted by this whole conversation. “That is the most indecent proposal I have ever heard …” I turn away from him then turn back to him. “It’s crazy. It’s absolutely crazy!”

My rant does not faze him. “That and three dinner dates with you.”

My jaw drops.

“Since I have to wait six months for my payment, it will be a ‘meanwhile’ scenario.”

“I …I …” This is so fucked up. “Why me? I mean, there are so many other girls around who are more experienced …”

“Cos you’re white boy’s girl. I want … what he has.”

“Because I’m … “I shake my head in disgust. “That is really fucked up, Dreads. It really is.”

“Maybe. But it is what it is, know what I’m saying?”

Of course I know what he’s saying. “And if I say no?”

He runs his hand slowly over his face, then locks eyes with me. “Then we have no deal.”

I stare at the ground as his words wash over me. “You’ll wait six months?”

“I’ll wait six months.”
