If you're looking for a heartwarming story about a girl who falls deeply in love with a troubled boy who changes her life--a sob story with pretty metaphors and a million ways that'll tell you how "broken" she is, STOP. Don't read another word of this.

I'm not that type of girl.

My name is Emerald Anderson and I'm not going to bullshit you: I flunked out of college after

4.5 Holy Debut Beautiful Lovin' Stars!

When I read that blurb, I knew I had to read this book, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. Beautiful Failure is an extremely impressive debut novel by Mariah Cole.

Emerald Anderson is the type of character that you'll either love or hate, depending on how she's written, and Mariah Cole made me love from the very beginning. Long story short, Emerald's failed out of college and has been forced to move from New York down south to live with her grandpar

Girls who poop, and a secret….

You know how sometimes you enter a book with absolutely no expectations. A book with only a handful of reviews and ratings. A book by an author you've never heard of. A cover that appears to have a partially naked girl taking a poo in the corner. You know that book.

I live for that book.

This is that book.

I stumbled across Beautiful Failure back in December. I was pulled towards it because of the contrast between an amazing book synopsis and a book cover…well, a book

This book is all about the emotion..... Our Heroine Emerald is a no nonsense girl. Raised by a hooker mother who only paid any attention to her when they were drinking or drugging, what other option did she have? She doesn't get close to anyone.... no friends, no ties to anyone, just uses people for what she needs and moves on.

Until a tragic event sends her to live with her grandparents...Emerald is forced to face her demons. A girl that has no idea how to function in real life... can't hold a

"My deepest fear is that I'll look back on my life and wonder what I did with it..."

I didn't know much about this book going into it, except what I read in the blurb. Emerald is a twenty-one year old girl, SERIOUSLY struggling to pick up the pieces of her life, after her mother committed suicide and left her. But even before that, her mother was pretty much the worst parent ever. She wasn't abusive.. I guess, but she gave a whole new meaning the the idea

I really enjoyed Beautiful Failure Jenny, it was very well written and the emotion was quite intense. This story is not pretty, nor is it your typical love story. This is about girl who’s grown up in a really screwed up family home. As in, it wasn’t one, and her Mum was a complete bitch! Who gets their daughter drunk on a daily basis an

"My mother was a whore."

Got your attention? Good. It should have.

I finished this book in one sitting. What should have only been a few chapters to help me get back to sleep ended up being the whole book.

Emerald is...definitely a different type of character than I am used to. She's a bitch and a loner. And she likes it that way. I think it's why I liked her. Even though I am far from a bitch (in my mind) I was able to relate to her.

She's also an alcoholic. And likes to smoke, oh and has been d

Wow, this book was just brilliant and so different to what I'm used to reading. Yes there was an element of romance but to be honest, for me, it was secondary to the main story line which revolved around Emerald Anderson... the mother of all bitches, the girl who appeared not to give a shit, who said it how it was, who had walls built so high, no one ever got through. The girl who who was a loner, had a chip on her shoulder.. the girl who was one massive fuck up but would never admit it:

What can I say….I LOVED this book. I thought this was a wonderful debut novel by Mariah Cole. This book was filled with so much emotion and raw feelings you couldn't help but feel everything Emerald felt. I loved that the author was able to get me to connect with the characters on a personal level….especially since Emerald was so closed off. I loved the writing style and flow of this book. We were given some

WOW! Now I got what people were talking about! I have to admit, I was so annoyed with Emerald at the begining because even she's been through a lot, she was so immature about all her decisions. BUT! Then I realized the main reason for her immaturity! Because when you read it, you got to witness her growing-up (not physically!!!!LOL!) and taking responsibility for her mistakes! She makes friends and a family and is able to keep a job more than 2 weeks at the end of the book! Yeah yeah i swear she ...more

4 stars!

I love this novel! This is a short story, not that I'm complaining coz this novel is packed, no boring scenes at all.

Since it's January, I kind of wanted to start this year reading fun and exciting novels! And this one is not really full of fun but it's exciting and I must say, this is a page turner, obviously that's why it only took me 5 hours to finish it. This is a must-read novel and I promise you guys are gonna love this...although....it's a cliff...but this sentence 'COMING SOONER

What a ending!!!! I need book 2 ASAP. Mariah awesome job. Love love love this book. I couldn't put it down. I want a Prince Charming like Carter. I loved Emerald too. She wasn't that stupid naive irritating female in most the books I read. I actually got her and loved how blunt she was. She had no filter. I am a huge fan and looking forward to more.

This was a really good read. The storyline was great. The characters were interesting and engaging. However, the ending was a game-changer. I did not expect that ending. I wonder what will happen in the next book. Overall, a great read.

I received an ARC of this book from the author for an honest review.

She warned me it was dark but I have no fear and was sucked in pretty quickly. This has a strong story with beautifully spunky characters. The whole cast has witty, brassy and sassy personalities that I took to them right away. If you don't mind blunt conversations with a little sexual side banter, then this is the book you want to pick up. I won't deny the strong subject matter. Emerald is a tough girl and there's lots of talk

This book was different than what I thought it was going to be from the blurb.

Basically Emerald has led a pretty shitty life.
Well she thought it was pretty cool until she gets old enough to realise that the things her Mum taught her weren't what everyone elses taught them.

Instead of how to braid your hair, to cook, homework etc.
Emerald was learning about drinking and drugs and sex.
and appearances.

Men only cared about what you looked like and men were what made the world turn.

This story was just a WOW emotional rollercoaster. Once you start reading, you cant stop until you finish it.

This is the story of a woman whose name is Emerald Anderson and whose life was and still is hard and always hit her straight in the face.

But then came him. Carter Black was the only guy who wanted to know the woman that is deep inside and what led her to become what she is now. And he wasnt going to stop.

He didnt told her what he was doing for a living. That was a mystery, until the end o

Didn't think much of this book when I decided to read it, but read it in one sitting. Had me hooked. It was a fun read and I loved Carter, and his relationship with Emerald. Although it left of on a pretty interesting cliffhanger... I loved that as well and the possible direction. It was a fun, easy, hot read. I definitely recommend it to anyone with similar tastes! Hopefully Mariah doesn't make us wait too long for the next one!

Sometimes not knowing what a book is about is for the best.

I saw this book awhile ago and I was intrigued by it. The synopsis had me wondering. There wasn't much said about the book and the cover was different. Unfortunately I had so much going on at that time that I could not get to it. When I saw it had a blog tour and the dates I knew I would be on spring break and could totally read and review it. I was stoked! After reading it I am more stoked. So much more.

Beautiful Failure is a very wonderful journey through the painful life of Emerald Anderson. Her mother was more a friend, Emerald's only friend, than a mother. She had her first drink with Leah, her mom, when she was only 14. Leah was a prostitute and must have really hated herself, because she taught Emerald to only be friendly with people that she could get something from. She was encouraged by her mom to lose her virginity when she was 15, because Leah had said to just get it over with. Leah ...more

I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review
I gave this book 5 stars.

This is Emerald and Carter's story.

This is a book that shows you what happens when your Mom is a child also, she is a drug addict, a drunk, and a escort. She really doesn't have time for her daughter, but when she does, she teaches her how to drink, how to do drugs, and how to use her body and beauty to get what she wants. She teaches her that you don't have friends you have prospects.

Once her Mother is no longer in
