Don't Let CNN Do Your Podcast Intro
Cable television networks want ratings. That means warm bodies in front of their screens.
Or does it? The way we measure television ratings is more accurate than it's ever been, but it's still not as accurate as the way we measure podcast ratings (or the results we get for those who advertise with us).
Podcasters need something a little more specific – we need people to actually consume our content and actually buy things from us, not just listen to ads we run.
So never ever ever take advice on how to put your show together from cable television...

Stop Making Stupid People Famous
This episode is more of a request than podcast marketing advice. And that request is: STOP MAKING STUPID PEOPLE FAMOUS.
Mistakes happen. I had a Christian Pedophile on my radio show once. But if you know somebody is lying to you, look out for your listeners – they deserve better.
As podcasters, we are on the front line of media. Protecting the public against idiots and criminals starts with us.

The "Rock Star" Who Blew Me Off (Not In A Good Way)
Ran into a "rock star" at an industry event. I'm in Nashville, so I see musicians, many of them well-known, everywhere.
But this interaction was different – he blew me off.
I'm often in situations where a lot of people are approaching me, so I get that it can be both difficult and energy-draining when it happens. But this interaction rubbed me the wrong way.
On a positive note, it's a great topic for an episode of Build A Big Podcast since you don't want to do what this guy did.

How "Rock Stars" (And Great Podcasters) Are Made
Was hanging out with a music journalist friend and we got into a discussion about what makes artists great.
HINT: It's the same thing that makes podcasters great.

Podcast Audio Settings – What I Recommend
Those spam emails you've been getting are right – size matters.
"Podcast hosting" isn't unlimited. And more and more people are getting their podcasts directly to mobile devices. Because of these things, the size of your podcast file matters – you want something that is quick to download and won't take up too much space in your hosting account.

Podcast Mic Test - $30 Mic vs. $350 Mic
Is an "expensive" mic worth the money? What's the best way to avoid popping your Ps?
I was so excited to find the Popper Blocker to use in my favorite "on the road" mic, the GLS58. But the results weren't as great for me as I'd hoped they would be...
I'm no audio engineer and I wasn't sure if the issue was me, the Popper Blocker, or my cheap mic, so I took everything to a real audio engineer, Stephanie Lesher, to get her opinion.
When I record with Stephanie, we normally use RE20 mics by Electro-Voice, so this episode also showcases the difference between the $30 GLS58 and $350 RE20. Before and after my talk with Stephanie, I used the BP40 by Audio-Technica, which is about $350 as well.
