Podcast Awards – Do They Matter?
iHeart's Podcast Awards are happening this week. According to the iHeart website, "iHeartRadio is recognizing the top podcasts in America, based on the podcasts you say are the best. The iHeartRadio Podcast Awards Presented By Capital One® are coming, the first EVER major Podcast Awards program where your vote will decide who wins."
Do they matter? Maybe.

Everybody wants to get more done. And there's a lot of "productivity porn" online that can make you feel like you're not doing enough.
Unfortunately, many podcasters are trying to use "efficiency" as an excuse for putting out less-than-great content. And others either don't know their content is mediocre or don't care.

GLS Audio ES-58 Microphone – Podcast Setup
The Shure SM58 microphone is the standard live performance mic and is "standard issue" for any music or comedy club.
About a year ago, I started hearing people talk about the ES-58 by GLS Audio, which is an SM58 replica. People loved it and the reviews were great.
I was skeptical. The Shure SM58 is a classic mic for a reason.
I purchased one out of curiosity to use for my portable rig. The first thing I did when it arrived was take it to an engineer friend, who checked it out and tested it.
In short, the reviews were correct and the engineer gave it a thumbs up. It's a great mic and a great addition to any portable podcasting setup. Like an SM58, the ES-58 is both solid and reliable.

How To Get Big Guests On Your Podcast
Let's be honest. There are a lot of podcasts with mediocre hosts that do very well because they have such great (and known) guests.
Getting a "celebrity guest" for your podcast can be very helpful in attracting new people to it, many of whom will stick around for other episodes if you're good at interviewing. Great guests can also help your credibility through association.

A lot of people use "interviews" as a way to promote their podcasts. By that I mean, they expect the people they interview to happily send out links and recommendations for others to listen.
This rarely happens. Great guests are too busy being great guests to promote a bunch of stuff, especially when it's as mediocre as most podcasts.
