Warm Bodies and Romance…
Okay, so I convinced my hubby to rent Warm Bodies (he wasn’t thrilled) and made him watch it with me. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I kind of went into it with an open mind.
My first impression was: Holy crap, he is eating her boyfriend’s brains, there is no future romance for them AT ALL. And really, what kind of romance can there be between a zombie and a human…who has brains he will more than likely want to eat??? Still, I held on to hope.
I guess the movie took me by surprise, even though I figured there would be some sort of romance spin. I admit, I never watched the previews, I never read the movie blurb on the back of the DVD box. I wanted to be surprised either way. Maybe because my sister had recently gotten me into The Walking Dead, and I was pleasantly surprised there was actually a story line there. But my interest didn’t last long The Walking Dead gang left “the farm” for the prison. It got pretty gruesome after that. And I’m a romance author. Violence and brain eating and brain bashing has never gone over well with me. I’m squeamish and I scream a lot when I get startled during movies — ask anyone I know well. They would never take me to the theater to watch a scary movie. Like ever. Apparently I’m a horror-flick-buzz-kill… ha!
Obviously, because my deep roots in all things romance – Sexy Smooches & Happily-Ever-Afters, you know — I was pleased with the ending. A zombie whose heart begins to beat again??? If that isn’t romantic, I don’t know what is. Aside from all the brain eating and the creepy bonies chasing humans and half-human zombies around and scaring the bejesus out of me, when The End came, I realized I had enjoyed the movie. As an author of romantic comedy, this was an ingenious spin on one!
I loved R. He was hilarious. As a zombie, he had a great sense of humor. “That guy in the corner is definitely dead. These guys look awful.” HA HA!!! Well said, R.
Has anyone else seen the movie???
Sincerely,
Niecey Roy

Summer Love and Young Hearts
A summer night’s dream…
It’s summer, finally. I’ve always been a summer girl–flip flops, shorts, my face upturned to the sky. The last week has been the warmest it’s been in awhile and while most people might complain of weather above 90 degrees, I welcome it.
I lay in bed last night, staring up at the ceiling in the dark. The sheer curtains hanging from my windows ruffled with the warm breeze and my mind fixated on the sounds of neighborhood kids laughing somewhere nearby. A smile tugged on the corners of my lips–I was reminded of a different time and place, my teenage years.
Things were so different for me back then. I had no worries, and neither did my sisters. We were young, golden tan, and always smiling. What care did we have in the world? Life was good and my every day thoughts were usually wondering when or if those older boys in their hot rods would cruise around my block, and whether or not they’d stop.
There were nights when I’d sit on my porch swing well after my parents had gone to bed, and I’d look up into the ebony black sky littered with so many blinking, bright stars, and I’d wish and pray that one day that boy would love me back. My heart would be so heavy with longing, my lips still tingling from the last kiss, and I’d wonder if he were looking up into the same sky, thinking about me. And every summer I was a little older, a little wiser, but always in love, and always in a relationship destined to fail.
When I think about it now, and as I lay beside my husband–one of those older boys I’d had an intense and consuming crush on–I wonder at that girl from my past. She was always so wrapped up in those moments…my dad called me boy crazy. I had a tendency to wear my heart on my sleeve and fall so deeply in love that the only way to break up or move on was to break off a piece of my heart. Perhaps that is why I fell so deeply in love with the romance genre, and why I write it today.
I’ve been playing around with the idea of writing a Young Adult contemporary romance. It’s such a vulnerable time in a person’s life–the first kiss, the first boyfriend, the first love. And high school is so full of drama, the kind that people spend decades trying to forget sometimes. I often wonder if the heartache and all the things that come with being a teenager, are worse in a small town than if I’d grown up attending larger high school in a much larger town. It’s funny, because when I was in high school, the world seemed so small, as if the only thing happening was what was happening right then, to me and to my friends. I have so many amazing memories as a teenager, and some that still make my chest constrict. There was so much laughter and many tears.
Some of my high school memories are the kind that books are made of. A summer night’s dream…
How can I not write about that?
Here’s one of my favorite summer songs

Wishing you Sexy Smooches and Happily-Ever-Afters,

Beyond the Sun by author Sandra Bischoff ~~ book tour
I’ve got Jared and Alexandra from Beyond the Sun, and author Sandra Bischoff here for an interview
Alex, if you were to cook a romantic dinner for Jared, what would that be?
Ha, ha, ha, I’ll have to let Jared field this one. I’m all about take out and restaurants.
Jared, if you were to cook a romantic dinner for Alexandra, what would it be?
Jared rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “Well, for starters, I’d hand feed her freshly baked Italian bread dipped in olive oil infused with a special mixture of herbs grown in our garden. I love the way her lips feel on my fingertips. Then, a mixed green salad with honey balsamic dressing. The main course would me filet mignon with port shallot sauce, roasted rosemary herbed baby potatoes and steamed broccoli. Now dessert, ah,” Jared grinned flashing a bit of fang. “Dessert is fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Once again, I would hand feed that to her and if some of the cream slipped off the berry, then I would have to clean it up with my tongue.” He winked playfully.
Sandra, if you were to cook a romantic dinner, what would it be?
How can I follow that? Jared definitely is a charmer. My dinner is nothing like that but fortunately I can cook. My go to romantic dinner is usually Shrimp scampi or Chicken parmesan, both are favorites for my hubby. Fried mozzarella with marinara sauce for an appetizer and a mixed green salad. We would skip dessert. We don’t want him so full he has no energy for later.
Alexandra’s top ten foods:
“Oh, now it’s my turn.” She rubbed her hands together.
1. Chocolate…. Anything chocolate. I am such a chocoholic
2. Strawberries and whipped cream … see Jared’s explanation
3. Ice cream
4. Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla Coffee… cannot live without this!
5. Coconut Shrimp with mango dipping sauce
6. Steamed Chinese Mixed veggies with brown rice and garlic sauce… No, garlic does not harm a vampire! It’s only a myth.
7. Bagels and veggie cream cheese
8. Chicken Caesar salad
9. Lobster with melted butter… It is literally heaven.
10. Cheese Burger and French fries.

The girl’s boyfriend was a member of a prominent Italian family who vanished the very next day.

Writing after the first published book…
I haven’t written a blog post in a while, and I’ve been keeping quiet on the social media front…that’s because I’m working hard on that next novel. I’ve had quite a few road blocks with the second novel. For some reason, I feel so much more pressure with this second one than I did with Fender Bender Blues, and that pressure has filled me with a doubt about my writing that I never had before. Being newly published, there was about a month there where I let the negative reviews really affect me, not taking into account that those negative reviews amount to about only 5% of all of my reviews together! I had to really stop stalking the review sites in order to get my confidence back.
I know one of my main issues was about being nervous in being able to satisfy the readership from the first novel, Fender Bender Blues. I wouldn’t want to disappoint the few fans that I have. Still, I know it would be more disappointing to not have a second novel out there, period. Thankfully, I can now announce that I have only two more scenes to flesh out, and I can finally write The End on what is currently titled Woes of the Casual Relationship.
I hope to have an update on The End within the next couple of weeks, which feels awesome. I’d like to get it into readers’ hands as soon as I can, but writing the book is just one part of the process. Editing, cover art, etc, with a traditional publisher can take at least 6 months to a year… I know, I know, that is a LONG time to wait! I’m toying with the idea of going indie for my contemporary romances. It’s an exciting thing to ponder
Hope everyone is having a great day! And, to any readers out there, thanks for reading Fender Bender Blues and for your support in my writing journey

Cassandra doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t writing. In fact, the first time she was published was when she was seven years old and won a contest to be published in an American Girl Doll novel. Since than Cassandra has written more novels than she can count and put just as many in the circular bin. Her personal goal with her writing is to show the reader the character’s stories through their dialogue and actions instead of just telling the reader what is happening. In 2012 she became a published Young Adult author, releasing In Between Seasons (The Fall, #1) and Walking in the Shadows. In 2013 she branched out by using her artistic illustrating talents to publish her first Children’s novel, The Adventures of Skippy Von Flippy: Tales of Friendship (Skippy Tales, #1). Cassandra will also release her first New Adult novel, Just One Cup, in the Spring of 2013.
Cassandra is a freelance professional photographer known for her automotive, nature and architectural shots. Quickie with A.J. Locke ~~ Affairs Of The Dead
Today I have author A.J. Locke as a guest on Quickie Wednesday for an Author Spotlight. I just love asking these nosy questions!
A.J., what is something readers would be surprised to learn about you?
I can speak Japanese on a conversational level and also write it.
Konichiwa! My dad was Navy sailor, so he speaks a little Japanese. My husband was stationed in Japan as well, so he knows a little, too. Me, I just jumble a few words together and I don’t pretend to know what I’m saying, ha
If you had to choose between living in a restored farmhouse surrounded by pasture land, a cottage in the English countryside, or a villa in Italy with grape vines as far as the eye could see, what would you choose?
Well all three certainly have their own appeal, but I think I’d go with the cottage in the English countryside.
Can you imagine the writing you could get done in a beautiful cottage, with no distractions??? If someone were to tell you, “I’m going to give you an all expense trip to anywhere, but you have to do it tomorrow,” where would you go?
Definitely Japan.
Ooohhh, I want to go to Japan as well! I keep telling my husband we are going to visit Japan. It’s not fair that both my dad and my husband have been there, lived there, and I have to watch it on the Travel Channel! If you had to describe your writing in one tagline, what would it be?
‘Everything you’d want in a novel all rolled into one!”
LOL. That certainly covers many genres! If an alien were to show up on your doorstep, what would you say to it and what would your reaction be?
I’d tell it that I was another alien and I had adapted the human form in order to blend in. That way it would think we were on the same side and not want to melt my brains or something. Because let’s face it, I doubt an alien would show up on my doorstep for tea!
You make a good point… I’m definitely using your strategy if I see an alien in the near future!
QUICKIE TIME!!!
Fuzzy slippers or tennis shoes? Fuzzy slippers
Salmon or lasagna? Lasagna
Brownie or vanilla cake? Oh this is a tough one…I’ll go with brownie
Hiking or bike riding? Bike riding
Soda or coffee? I don’t drink much of either, how about water?
Paperback or eBook? I came around to e-books but I will always prefer physical books so paperback all the way!
Flying super power or invisibility super power? Flying!
Sexy vampires or sexy wolf-wolf Can I have them both? Well, if I had to choose I’d go with the sexy were-wolf
Where can we find Affairs of the Dead?
Amazon ~~ Barnes & Noble ~~ All Romance E-books
Can you share a blurb and excerpt from Affairs of the Dead?
Help ghosts, stop a thief, and try not to die…
Necromancer Selene Vanream helps ghosts settle their affairs so they can move on. But when breaking the rules gets her in trouble, she’s bumped down to tracking ghosts trying to avoid the afterlife. Ghosts like Ethan Lance, who claims he was kicked out of his body when someone else jumped in. Which might be plausible—if such a thing were possible. And if Micah, Selene’s partner, didn’t pull her into an investigation of brutal murders that lead directly back to Ethan.
But when the whole mess puts Selene’s life in danger, she suddenly has very personal reasons to get Ethan’s body back. Between her uncomfortable relationship with Micah, and problems with her boss, Selene learns just how much trouble it can be when you don’t follow the rules…
Excerpt:
I was in a strip club trying to help a ghost get laid, which was challenging, but not impossible. It was just extremely taxing on the necromancer extraordinaire (me) who had to channel energy into the ghost to make her corporeal enough to entice one of the stripper boys. Technically what I was doing was illegal, but it was my job to help ghosts settle their affairs so they could move on to eternally ever after, and Julia’s unfinished business was that she’d died a virgin. I’d made it as easy as I could for her by starting at a strip club; if she couldn’t get some here, I wasn’t sure how much lower I could scrape the barrel.
Julia’s prolonged virginity was an enigma to me, even though she told me that she’d been waiting for her soul mate. I just didn’t understand why that meant she couldn’t hit up a bar, get drunk, and have a fun, regret-filled weekend that included the walk of shame. At least she’d have been in better shape once soul mate came around.
“What do you think about him?” I asked, pointing to one of the three oiled up men who were gyrating for the benefit of all the screaming women. He had blond hair and green eyes, and wasn’t overly muscular. Julia looked at him then quickly looked away. I took that as a sign of approval.
“I think this was a bad idea,” she stammered.
“This was a fantastic idea,” I said. “And it will work, don’t worry.”
“No, I mean, I don’t think I can do this. I waited my whole life for my soul mate and now you want me to just—” she stole another quick look at the stripper, “I don’t think I can do this with some random…stripper man. It’s so indecent.”
I rolled my eyes. “Julia, you’re a ghost; you no longer have the option of being discerning. And if you don’t wrap up what’s keeping you around, you run the risk of turning into a monster. Then it’s an even bigger pain in the ass to get rid of you. So let’s call our efforts here at Bump and Moan choice A, and murderous monster choice B. Which choice would you like to make?”
“A,” Julia said, but she didn’t sound happy about it. I smiled, and grabbed a couple drinks off the tray of a passing waitress. I set them down in front of Julia.
“Drink,” I said. “This will help.”
“I’m a ghost,” she said. “I thought I was unable to eat or drink.”
“You can feel the effects of the alcohol since you’ll be working off my energy, so drink up. I’ve pegged you as a light weight so I think two drinks will be enough.”
“But how is this supposed to help?” she asked, frowning.
“Because its job is to help,” I said.

About the Author-Candace Knoebel had dreamed of being a dancer ever since she could remember. With a love of all things art, she saw herself moving to New York and pursuing her passion as an artist. But all that changed on October 10th, 2002 when she met the love of her life. Her dreams diverged and after marrying her high school sweetheart and having two beautiful children, she realized she missed her creative side.
Growing up alongside the Harry Potter series, Candace found herself missing the epicosity of a story that pulls you in and won’t let you go. In 2009, she began dreaming up characters that would mold her first novel. Through lunch breaks and late nights, after putting her kids to bed, she built a world where she could escape the ever-pressing days of an eight to five Purgatory. She found her calling in life and knew this was more than dancing could’ve ever meant to her.
Once complete in 2010, she began the grueling process of finding a publisher. With relentless determination, she was finally able to realize her dream in December of 2011 when 48fourteen offered her a publishing contract. With a HUGE yes and a happy dance, she continues her Trilogy.

My name is Niecey and I am an insomniac…

Yup, this is how I’m feeling about now at…2:22 a.m.
I’ve known it for awhile now, that I have insomnia. It’s a pesky thing, really. Well, it wouldn’t be if I didn’t need to sleep. It doesn’t matter how tired I am, my mind is always working. I wonder if that’s just something artists suffer? An exchange for creativity?
I think I’ve always been this way. I remember when I was a child I used to sit up late into the night, sometimes until four a.m. reading a book I couldn’t put down. Back then it didn’t bother me as much. I could go without sleep and it wasn’t ever a big deal. I’d function at school no matter how tired I was. I don’t think the tired thing hit me until I turned twenty-eight or so. Eeekkkk, that admission hints I am way older than twenty-eight. I’m actually thirty-two… Thirty-two??? Where the hell did the time go?
I’ve been thinking of things to help with the insomnia. I have this aversion to pills so prescription meds are not an option. I barely take Tylenol for headaches unless they’re on the migraine level. I’m thinking I need to cut back on my coffee habit throughout the day. I”m addicted to coffee. It sounds a little dramatic when I say it out loud, but it’s true. It’s a vicious cycle: I have insomnia, so in order to function, I need to drink a ton of coffee, and then I stay up late at night, only to repeat the process over. ugh.
Anyway, this is me just rambling and wondering what others do when they’re hit with insomnia? I am pretty sure I was told once that I need to quit stressing so much, relax the mind and sleep will come. I have a tendency to stare at the people who say those things like they might be bat-shit crazy. Not stress? As if a person can just will that all away. ha!
