I’m having a lot of FEELINGS about pop music lately. I don’t know! I’m a punk rock girl, I swear! The first album I ever bought was an Iron Maiden album! Kind of metal! Right?
Remember when the Shakira video for She Wolf came out and some of us got super upset about how she straightened/tamed her huge hair and wasn’t cumbia or belly dancing and something something something, “SHAKIRA YOU HAVE TURNED YOUR BACK ON YOUR LATIN ROOTS”? Something?
No? No one remembers that? I DO BECAUSE THAT WAS ME AND I WAS A FUCKING IDIOT. Artists should be allowed to do different things and evolve! And I’m a pale latina who dyes her hair red and dresses like a fucking hipster, who am I to judge shit about stereotypes and appearances? Honestly, me of a few years ago. You’re dumb.
Also, this is a great video. What the hell, younger self, what the hell.

The latest from SP Wayne (@writethiswayne). Word wrangling sexual intellectual checking in
So I plan on making a huge list of PLACES TO FIND ME ON THE INTERNET, but for now, there is my new twitter. I think I will mostly use it to post pictures of my dog.
However, the true intent of the author twitter is to make me findable at dragon*con. It is my sincere wish that someone at the con who has read my book tweets me something like, “in the game room. want 2 hang out?”
YES I DO. On the scale of one to social, I’m Leander and not the werewolf recluse in the woods.

“How blessed are some people, whose lives have no fears, no dreads; to whom sleep is a blessing that comes nightly, and brings nothing but sweet dreams.”
― Bram Stoker, Dracula
One day I’m going to have an office and it will be decorated exclusively with Dracula book cover concepts.
Are you able to give an example of the changes the updated version of Winter Wolf has? Typos I get but I was wondering about the "editorial" changes.
Aaah, yes, okay, amazon was faster than I expected.
Hi! Thanks for asking. I didn’t get to choose what the update e mail said. Amazon reviews the text and decides if the changes are significant enough to even warrant an update e mail, and then they decide what to call the update. And they’re vague as shit, so I’ll try to answer…possibly exhaustively.
For the most part, it’s typos and stuff like “and dawn was breaking” being changed to “dawn broke.” That is a direct quote and actual change.
There’s a few instances of me playing the pronoun game that received some clarification—like, instead of “he did this and that to him and then he also blah blah,” some places now read “Leander did this and that to Axton and then Leander also blah blah.”
My editor added in a TON of commas. I then took away the vast majority of these additions (all but two, I think). Stylistically, I feel my syntax and Axton’s voice were preserved perfectly. I’m pretty nuts for polysyndeton and asyndeton both, and all of that’s still there.
I’m usually loathe to admit it, but I’m ridiculously pretentious about my deliberately questionable grammar. All of that is exactly the same.
There were maybe two other sentences added for clarity somewhere. Maybe. I’m not even sure that’s true.
The front and back matter changed a little, mostly so I could correctly credit my cover artist T.K. Hunter and link to his websites. I also shortened my author bio because I figured nobody reads it anyway, so what the hell.
The one MAJOR change was this:
There was one scene in particular that somehow got a few lines cut in the version of the book that was out before Valentine’s Day. I corrected the scene in the V-Day version of the book, but never submitted it for an update notification because I knew I was going to have to do that for a professionally proofread version.
Here is the correct version (spooooilers, I guess, if anyone new is reading):
"Maybe." Leander cocked his head to the side. "But so that’s part of what you meant, when you said werewolves are old fashioned?"
"Yes." Axton stopped in front of one of the cabin windows, looking outside. "That’s most of what I meant."
"I’m sorry," Leander said, "That it was like that."
"Was?" Axton mused, still gazing at the snow, "Is. And not just with wolves, either."
"It isn’t like that anymore, though," Leander said, "I mean, there’s nothing wrong with—"
"I know there’s nothing wrong with it,” Axton said sharply, whirling around, “I know there is nothing wrong with me.”
And there is your exhaustive guide to the editorial changes in Winter Wolf! Personally, I want you and everyone to download the new version, because I think it’s better and I’m a control freak. But you do you! You absolutely don’t have to if you don’t care about typos, which some people don’t and that’s totally cool.
The only thing I really care about is the correct version of the scene up there, because to me, Axton’s sense of who he is and how it is okay to be himself is an essential part of his character. Despite his natural inclination to self doubt and general neuroticism, he is very sure that society is wrong here, not him.
Like, Leander probably plays “Born This Way” for him being all, “Look! This is a song for you!” and Axton, who lives in the woods and hasn’t heard anything on the pop charts in a decade is like, “What the fuck are you talking about.” But Leander’s not wrong! Sort of!
Anyway, hey, thanks. You are great. Let me know if you’d prefer this to be answered privately.

Jesse Wave Reviews Winter Wolf: A Werewolf Romance on Snow
The review by the amazing Jesse Wave is up! The new edition of the book is live! YEEEEEAH. Go check it out. I’m preening and feel 100% understood right now, which is, of course, what all writers want.

Heads up, faithful readers!
The marvelous Jesse Wave of Reviews by Jesse Wave will be reviewing Winter Wolf later this week. SUPER COOL, you guys!
Also, an updated version on Winter Wolf goes live on amazon tomorrow night. You can still purchase the current edition until then, but trust me—the third edition is better.
(The one you have read is the second edition. The first edition was the miscoded thing that was up for all of a few hours before I fixed it. You guys, check your end tags in your html, okay?)
And Winter Wolf will be FREE over Labor Day weekend! Because City Wolf comes out a month later! YEEEAH EXCITING WOO.
xoxo, darlings.

*aggressively demands them all*
The saddest thing about this show is that inevitably Hannibal will be in an orange jumpsuit and we won’t get all the glorious suit porn anymore. I’ve been preemptively weeping about this since, like, the third episode.

So there’s this kind of whiny sensitive boy sort of band called Say Anything, after, yes, the John Cusack film. I told you they were sensitive boys.
Some of their songs have a certain stripped down, lo fi poetry that I really love. At first glance, these are some terribly romantic songs that make your chest swell and you stagger around under the weight of this love and clutch at your neck. But the moment I actually start to really enjoy myself, I start to parse them, and so I actually listen to what the lyrics are saying—and the songs are filled with this vaguely bullshit NICE GUY rhetoric that makes me roll my eyes so hard I’m afraid they’re gonna pop one day.
Ah, well. They’ll still have a song or two on the Winter Wolf soundtrack I make in my head.
STUFF IS HAPPENING
