Confusion

Hey guys! I just wanted to clear up some confusion. Goodreads has listed two books by another Erica Cope as being mine. THEY ARE NOT.

"New Beginnings" and "A Heart full of Love" are NOT written by me.

I don't know why this is happening. I've had a Goodreads Librarian delete "New Beginnings" from my books twice now but it keeps popping up and today the other book popped up as being mine as well.

Just didn't want anyone to be confused! If it's not listed on my blog, it's not mine. :)

One Year

Today is Lark's birthday! It's hard to believe that one year ago today I said to my husband, "Okay, I'm going to do it." and hit "publish". I don't think I slept a wink that night waiting for the book I spent an entire year working on to go "live".

So much has happened since then that on one hand I can hardly believe it's only been a year and on the other I feel like this has always been my life.
Since I currently don't have any paperbacks to giveaway to celebrate my first official year of being an author (I really need to order another shipment soon!) and Like the Dawn (Lark #3) isn't ready to be published yet (though Unfamiliar is close!), I thought the least I could do is share another teaser.

Grey leads me out of the hall and into the gardens. This is the place I feel the most at ease in this new life of mine. It's like I derive my strength from outside in the tranquility of these garden walls.      This is the place I first learned about the prophecy, where I trained and where I first discovered I could speak inside Jacoby's mind. It's also where Grey kissed me for the first time. The memory of that night causes my stomach to flip uncomfortably. He's standing in front of me, his unusual indigo eyes piercing my heart and I have a feeling that this is going to be a conversation I'm not quite prepared to have.      “I know that you think it's too soon. But Mia, you and I, we've been through a lot together. I think you know how I feel, how I've always felt.”     “Actually, I don't. I mean, I do now because you told me but before, I didn’t. I had no idea. I spent so much of my time being confused by you that it was frustrating. You frustrated me. You still do for that matter.”      “I never meant to confuse you. I just knew that the way things were before, it was impossible to even ponder the possibility of anything more. But now--” Grey pulls my hand into his and gently rubs the mark on my wrist with his thumb. “We have a real chance. If you will only allow me the chance to prove myself worthy.”

Obviously it's unedited and subject to change between now and April (but probably won't change much).

Komal and I are wrapping up Unfamiliar and hoping to dive headfirst into edits by the end of the week and then I will focus all my attention on writing the finale to Lark's story. I think about this story every day and I'm really looking forward to finishing it.

Thank you to everyone who supports me by reading my books and sharing them with your friends. You've made this past year one of my best yet and I'm really looking forward to what this next year holds.

Much love to you all!

From Photo to Cover

This was my very first experience with a custom photo shoot--usually I tend to just go with premade covers so I'm not really sure if this is the "norm" but I thought I'd share a little bit about the process. :)

But first, just for fun! Here are some behind the scenes photos:

Now, before I continue, I should probably introduce the players:

The Authors: Me and Komal of course

The Models: My sister Karlie and Komal's boyfriend Chase ( Though now he is her fiance! I've actually known Chase since he was like 12. His sister and I were on the same cheerleading squad and I remember Chase showing off his gymnastics skills in the basement for us while we were decorating pillows and making snacks for the MHS Wrestling team)

The Photographer: Tera Lankard

The Cover Designer: Eden Crane

We woke up pretty early the morning of the day Komal and I left for Indie Mash-up (our first author convention! It was a big weekend for us all around). It was a Friday so I had to get Blondie #1 on the school bus at 7:05 and Tera wanted to make sure we started as the sun was rising so the lighting was good.

Of course the bus was late but it was okay because Tera was able to get in a few practice shots first to test the lighting. Like this one:

Look at those colors! It was a beautiful day--freezing but beautiful! I remember Komal asking why my grass was white and having to explain that it was frost! Silly Australian. ;)
I brought out a blanket and made sure we all had coffee. They were shivering but Karlie and Chase were troopers. And even though Karlie was extremely nervous about pretending to kiss Komal's boyfriend, we ended up with a few promising shots:

I don't remember how long we were out there but I want to say it was less than an hour. After we finished, we went back inside to warm up. I started breakfast and Tera uploaded the photos to our computer.
We narrowed it down to our favorites and forwarded them on to Eden.
Karlie seemed most comfortable in the pictures where she is smiling BUT Eden thought the almost kissing one would work best and since Eden is a Design Goddess, we trusted her.

Then she produced our first mockups:

We asked her to remove the "Amazon Bestselling Authors" because even though we technically are, we both felt weird about having it on our cover.
We preferred the last one the best but then Komal said it just felt like it was missing something. I suggested making it brighter and Komal suggested bringing in some of the natural colors from the background since it was so pretty and that's when Eden gave us this:

The title is brighter and the background is richer and of course we love it!

Cover Reveal: We Were Us by Heather Diemer

When Jenna returns to the small town she was forced to leave over a year ago after her drug dealing mother was found in bed with the mayor, she wasn’t sure what to expect. She is perfectly content waiting out the summer alone until she can return to college in the fall.
Josh doesn’t judge her like everyone else does and never did. He gets her. When he shows up at her door every night just to see her, Jenna opens up to him like she’d never been able to before. And the more time she spends with him, the more she realizes she is falling for him.
When someone in town spots the two of them together, rumors fly and her already uncomfortable existence in the town takes a turn for the worse. Jenna realizes she’ll never belong here and decides to leave and never look back. Josh convinces her to stay because there is something that she doesn’t know--something that could change everything.

Is this a great cover? I love searching through pre-mades and when I saw this one by Cover to Cover Designs I immediately tagged Heather in it because it just seemed so perfect for her debut novel. Definitely add this one to your TBR lists, folks!

I was tagged!

Sneak peek of page 7 of LIKE THE DAWN (obviously unedited and subject to change) :)

“Lord Blaise,” I greet him. “How nice to see you again.” I don't mean it. At all. The guy is a total jerk and my last encounter with him was hardly pleasant but everyone is watching and expecting me to be friendly. Since I kind of need them all to like me, the least I can do is suck it up and plaster a fake smile on my face. But I'm totally imagining kicking the dude in his balls. “Princess Mia.” He kisses my hand as he peers up at me from beneath his impossibly long lashes. Does he wear mascara? Quite frankly, I wouldn't put it pass him. “You look lovely as always.” “Thanks.” “May I sit next to you while we dine?” While we dine? Dude, is this guy eighty? Then I laugh to myself because honestly, he's probably a lot older than that. I do believe Aunt Isobel said he was 109. So technically he's younger than Grey. I freeze when I hear his familiar voice in my mind. Everything else around me fades into an indistinct haze of just blended colors and background noise swirling around me because all I hear is him.
