New Cover for IN THE SHADOWS (and a sneak peek!)

Soooooooo I have a brand spanking new cover for In the Shadows!  White Rabbit Designs & Creations did an amazing job and Alivia has been wonderful to work with so far. I highly recommend her.  I know I'm completely bias but I absolutely love it and I hope you do too! Let me know what you think!

Mia Carrington is struggling to come to terms with the fact that she killed a man, while trying to find a balance between her role as the Princess of the Light Elves and attempting to lead the life of a normal human teenager.

Too bad her dual life doesn't come with an instruction manual.

Just when she thinks that fate can't throw anything else at her, the Duchess Isobel is found on the brink of death and Mia’s boyfriend Jacoby is the only suspect.

Despite the suspicion surrounding him, Mia is sure of the innocence of the boy she loves and she is determined to prove it no matter the risk.

The problem is, the one thing that can save Isobel and clear Jacoby can only be found in the shadows of the Underworld.

Oh boy.
Official Release Date TBA soon (very soon)  AND just for fun, here is a little sneak peek for your reading pleasure. Now of course the wording might change a little between now and publication because my editor hasn't even laid eyes upon this yet BUT I hope you enjoy it all the same. <3  ~o~He leads me down a little further to a more secluded area hidden by the trees. I see the flickering of the candle lights as we approach and eye him curiously but he’s just smirking like a giddy school girl--in a completely masculine way of course. We get closer and I notice there’s a red and white checkered picnic blanket with a bottle of sparkling grape juice and two champagne flutes as well as a tray of strawberries, chocolate, cheese and crackers. Beside the picnic is the word “PROM?” spelled out in twinkling white tea lights. The smile that was already forming on my lips at the sight of the little picnic widens when I realize just how sweet my boyfriend is. “Yes!” I answer the unspoken question as I throw my arms around his neck. And for a moment, it’s easy to forget that I'm a part of this strange mythological world full of magic and darkness and good and evil. Tonight I'm not the Light Elf princess, but rather just a perfectly normal teenage girl who has just been asked to go to the prom. ~o~

6 Months Anniversary of Lark's Release day!

Can you believe that 6 months ago today, I published Lark? True story!
After 6 months Lark is still ranked in the 3,000s overall in the Kindle store and it's in the top 100 in TWO genres! (Fantasy and YA/Teen Sword and Sorcery!) That is amazing! It's all thanks to my amazing readers who have spread the word for me. I wish I could give you all a great big hug!

In honor of the 6 month anniversary of releasing my debut novel Lark is FREE until tomorrow. So if you know anyone who has been hesitant to pick it up, encourage them to do so if you don't mind!

I've talked to Cassie's Crafty Creations about making some Lark Swag as well as a couple of other people about making some Lark inspired jewelry (like Mia's amulet!) so look for a giveaway in the near future! :)

Love ya all!

XOXO

July 26, 2013

I accidentally finished a novel.

Last weekend I finished the first draft of a contemporary romance entitled Fall into Me.

Whoops!

You might remember in my post about my diagnosis that I cancelled my self-imposed deadline of finishing the first draft of In the Shadows until after my 2nd surgery to remove the rest of my thyroid (Stupid cancer). So I was relaxing and reading and watching a lot of really bad TV but because I think it's important to still write something every day, I went back through my two other manuscripts I started last fall (while Lark was in the beta reading/editing stage).

I found myself casually writing a little here and a little there and before I knew it, I finished one. This was not what I was intending to do at this point, it just sort of happened. I knew I was close to finishing that particular one but I was going to finish In the Shadows first.   Hence my 'Whoops'!

What about In the Shadows, you ask? Well, as you know I wanted to stay as stress free as possible and writing In the Shadows was stressing.me.out for two reasons:
 1) I want it to be even better than Lark (you guys have expectations now and I don't want to disappoint! Oh the pressure!)
and
2) I'm just not sure how many books in the world of the Light Elves I want to write now.
I originally planned 3 but then I was thinking that maybe I should write 4 or maybe even just 2. I just don't know. I don't want it to be one of those series that drags on but if you guys want more, I want to be able to give it to you as long as I can do it well.
Now this might not seem like it would hinder my writing process that much but really it does. Because I need to figure this out before I finish In the Shadows because that will determine HOW I finish it, does that make sense?
It's times like this that I wish I would've queried an agent and tried to get on with a publishing house so that someone else could make these decisions for me.
Okay, not really. I actually really do enjoy the freedom of self-publishing but still, it would be nice if someone would just say "Write X number of books about Lark, Erica" and I could just say "Okay" and do it instead of wondering what would be best all on my own.

Right now, In the Shadows is about 80% finished, once I figure out how neatly everything needs to be wrapped up, it should be pretty easy to finish it so I'm still expecting to release it this winter like planned. And at this point I'm leaning towards my original plan of 3 books.

So yeah, that's what's going on in my little world right now. I accidentally finished a novel I wasn't intending to....who does that? LOL
I swear I'm usually not this wishy-washy. It's just been an off summer for me. It started off with my husband shredding his ACL, then my brother was hospitalized and needed 4 blood transfusions then I have one surgery to remove a large nodule on the left side of my thyroid only to discover it was cancer and I have to go back to remove the right side and that's not even mentioning all the medical problems my mom and step-dad have suffered though.
Yeah, it's been one heck of a summer and I'm not going to lie, Fall is my favorite season anyway but this year I'm looking forward to it more than most just because this summer has been so stressful I'm ready for it to be over!

On the bright side, I'm just relieved to have some energy back! It's amazing how I didn't even realize how sick I was until I felt better. That sounds crazy but it's true.

Anyway, I guess bring on the re-writes and edits!

XOXO

My Week

Monday: Missed my 5:30am alarm because my phone died so I didn't get to eat breakfast. Which meant that by my 2pm surgery, I was STARVING. Surgery was postponed until 3 (and my stomach tried to eat itself). Complained about the lack of REAL food on my tray when I woke up but that was remedied when I ate the wonderful bread my neighbors brought me (Bread is my favorite) while watching Switched at Birth.

Tuesday: Discharge from the hospital. Came home and slept. Watched Pretty Little Liars. Slept some more. Took a shower. Went to bed.

Wednesday: Woke up at 9am, read The Sea of Tranquility until noon. Spent the rest of the day talking about how wonderful it was to everybody that would listen (and even to those who didn't want to. Sorry Karlie)

Thursday: Woke up at 9am, wrote all.freaking.day and almost forgot to take the girls to VBS. Whoops.  (But on the plus side, I'm almost finished with the first draft of Fall Into Me). Remembered to pick the girls up on time and then made our big announcement!

Friday: Woke up at 9am, wrote 1300 words for a book I'm not supposed to be working on until November, finished reading Tangled by Emma Chase (hilarious!), touched up the trim in the living room from where we got sloppy while painting Sunday. Now I'm blogging while eating dinner.

I know I've actually worked a lot this week but sleeping in until 9 the last three days has made me feel incredibly lazy.

Then I remember I had SURGERY Monday and I try to forgive myself. ;)

Big Announcement!!

Komal Kant and I are writing a book!

No surprise there?

Of course not, because what else would we be doing, right?

Well, what if I told you we were writing one.....wait for it.......

TOGETHER?

Yep!

We have been brainstormng for about a month now and when she comes to visit in November we plan to start writing it.

It will be a NA contemporary romance with dual POVs and we can't wait to start it!

We don't have a cover yet because we are having a photoshoot in November and then Eden Crane will be working her magic after that. (Eden Crane designed the cover of Lark as well as all of Komal's books...Echoes of Melody is my current favorite cover! You should check it out!)

BUT we do have a title and a blurb!

UnfamiliarBy Erica Cope and Komal KantHailey Peters has always held onto the familiar. From the way she wears her hair, to dating her childhood friend-turned high school sweetheart--she sticks with what she knows, and she’s convinced herself that this is what makes her happy.
Chase Lancaster doesn’t play by the rules. He’s a classically trained pianist who rocks out in a punk rock band every weekend, and isn’t afraid of taking chances.
When they are assigned to co-write a song for their college music class, Hailey can’t imagine anyone she has anything less in common with than Chase. She is a sweater-wearing, neat freak, and he is disheveled and rough around the edges. As they spend time together, they both find a place in each other’s lives—a place where they challenge each other to be different and to embrace the unfamiliar.
Hailey never planned for a Chase Lancaster in her life, and she is about to find out that this walking contradiction will change her forever.*** Now, if you remember,  on my Facebook status, I asked: What do me, Komal Kant and the band Get Busy Living have in common?

WELL.....the band will be recording a song specifically for our book! The lyrics have already been written (Komal rocks like that) and when we release the book, the song will be released and you will be able to download it! How fun will that be?

We hope you guys are as excited about this upcoming project as we are!
We will be adding the book to Goodreads soon so you will be able to add it to your To Be Read lists!
And don't forget to "like" Get Busy Living on Facebook!

Cover Reveal: Echoes of Melody by Komal Kant

This may be my absolute favorite of Komal's covers so far! I mean, just look at it! It's great! And I've read the first chapter of the book and I can tell you right now, it's going to be amaze-balls! Eden Crane is a genius!

Echoes of Melody by Komal Kant is a coming-of-age story where being normal isn’t everything it’s cut out to be. This Young Adult Contemporary novel is set to release in 2014, and is told from the eyes of a teenage boy who has a unique perspective on life.

This is not one of those conventional love stories. It’s not one where the guy has a six-pack and all the girls drool over him and want to have his babies. I know this because I’m the guy and I’m pretty unimpressive as far as guys go. I don’t even have a one-pack.This isn’t a story where the girl is a perfect female specimen who blushes and bites her lip and wants to make your life better. Nope. The girl is pretty freaking messed up. Also, she has an unhealthy attachment to a pink umbrella. But look who’s talking. I’m just as messed up as she is.Together, we make one screwed up couple. We’re trying to help each other through our various issues, but most of the time we just end up arguing or making out. I told you we were screwed up.To be honest, I’ll be lucky if I don’t kill her by the time I’m done telling you this story.

[image error] Komal Kant is the author of IMPOSSIBLE, FALLING FOR HADIE, and the upcoming WRONG SIDE OF TOWN. She currently lives in Sydney, but wishes she lived all over the world.
Her weird-filled days are filled with imaginary characters who often speak to her in hushed tones before stealing her lunch money; Siberian Huskies who talk back a lot; and the growing need to clone herself so she can write faster.
You can often find her swooning over fictional male characters who smirk a lot, superhero-related movies, and Ryan Gosling. So if there was ever a superhero movie with Ryan Gosling in it smirking a lot, she would pass out from an overload of swooniness.

Change of Plans

After I released Lark, I was planning on finishing up a contemporary romance (Fall into Me) I started while Lark was being edited and release that this summer and then focus on Lark #2. But lately, I've been missing Mia, Jacoby and Grey so I'm thinking now I might want to put Fall into Me on hold and focus on the sequel to Lark. My goal for this week is to fine-tune my outline. I had a very detailed outline before I started writing the first book and I wrote it in 3 months so obviou...
