“Dogs May Not Sit On, Or Eat Off the Tables…”

It’s been two weeks since I announced I was going to be present on the blog more often. This is still the plan, so be sure to subscribe to get updates in your inbox!

What I didn’t mention was that I probably would take breaks when I went on vacation or took off to conferences and other stuff like that. And because I left for Oregon for a family vacation shortly after I announced that I planned to blog more often, I’ve been missing in action, unless you follow me on Instagram or Facebook (whi...

5 Things Worth Sharing This Week and a Writing Update

Happy Friday, y’all! (And I hope all my American friends had a festive 4th of July!)

Remember when sparklers and a popsicle were all you needed on a hot 4th of July?

I’ve been on one big struggle bus the last couple of weeks. I cannot for the life of me get a handle on the subject matter for the next In Darkness book. But I think I made a huge breakthrough in the research this week and made some big decisions about the story, then the 4th of July happened, and I lost all momentum. That’s how...

10 Thoughts on Netflix’s When They See Us

My husband and I watched Netflix’s When They See Us over the weekend. This is the hit, 4-part drama about the Central Park Five (or now known as the Exonerated Five)—5 boys aged between 14 and 16 who were arrested, tried, convicted, and incarcerated as having raped and nearly killed a Central Park jogger back in 1989.

This series gutted me, y’all. By the time I was watching part 4, which was mostly the story of what happened to Korey Wise, I was hugging a box of tissues and trying to keep my...

True Crime: Murder, Mystery & Makeup by Bailey Sarian

[image error] Do murder, mystery AND makeup actually go together?

Let’s start with an admission of guilt: I am a true crime junkie!

Also, being a novelist and a consumer of stories, I adore good storytellers. And when you combine great storytelling, true crime, and fascinating entertainment… Count. Me. In.

I can’t even remember how I discovered Bailey Sarian, but I am so glad I did, and I want you to discover her, too. Mainly because you need this in your life.

Who is Bailey Sarian?

I do not typically wat...

How to Wake Up at 5 a.m. (And Why)

Maybe you don’t want to wake up at 5 a.m. Maybe you just want to wake up earlier. I’m going to tell you how (and why) I wake up early every day.

But first, getting up earlier than you’re used to is not easy. When I was in college, I was the queen of the snooze button. My roommate hated it! That carried on into my early twenties when I worked the corporate job. But eventually, I discovered that once I was up, I actually enjoyed the quiet of the early morning hour before most people were up. A...

My Morning Routine

If you ever have trouble reaching goals or being productive, it could be your morning routine.

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been evaluating my morning routine. I have a lot of goals and plans for what I want to accomplish for 2019 and early 2020. And in order to make that happen, I’ve realized the need for better routines. Starting with the morning.

What is My Morning Routine Currently?

My morning routine is a work-in-progress, much like my entire life.

I never set an alarm unless m...

Death is in the Details: Plans for Cover, Editing, and Marketing of a Novel

Good Sunday evening!

I just settled in at my desk this fine Sunday afternoon with a cup of tea and my bullet journal. It’s that time of the weekend when I like to look at the items on last week’s to-do list that didn’t get done and either cross the items out or move them forward to this week. Unfortunately, most of what I didn’t get done is still a priority, so the upcoming week is pretty full.

I did, however, finish my latest novel, and in case you missed it, I announced the title in a Face...

Sunserious Readers January Book Club: Verity by Colleen Hoover

I have a really bad habit…   I read reviews – the good, the “meh”, and the ugly. Not my own reviews. Let’s be clear. Because who has the self-esteem that can survive that. No, I read other people’s reviews of the books I’m reading or looking to read.   I announced in my newsletter that I was reading Verity by Colleen Hoover the other day. (I’m about 1/3 to 1/2 into it, reading slowly thanks to my own busy writing schedule.) And after I announced my January book pick, I took to the r...
