Mindspeak #3 News: Did You Really Think I’d leave You Hangin’ Like That?

Thank you, you amazing readers who like to use my contact page and who send me warm, fuzzy emails. You guys rock!!

I can’t explain it, but when I receive fun, positive, emails like the ones you’ve been sending me, my brain churns up more plot twists, and my fingers move so dang fast on the keyboard.

Oh… and the reviews and ratings you’ve been leaving me all over the internet? Wowzers! Those have been truly inspiring to me. You have no idea how much faster writers can write when we know that you...

Natalie Wright: I’m a Creative Entrepreneur

I’d like to introduce a fun new series on the blog: What does it mean to be a creative entrepreneur? I think it means a great many things depending on who you ask, which is why I am asking you. If you’re interested in guest posting and telling me what creative entrepreneurship means to you, send me an email at heather(at)heathersunseri(dot)com. To get the series started, today’s fantastic post is by Young Adult and Middle Grade Author Natalie Wright who has a new book out. So be sure to check...

Why Do I Feel Like I Just Went Down With the Titanic? Thanks for that, Donald Maass

Ocean - Stephen Edgar - NetwebWhoa!!! I suddenly think I’m supposed to feel like the bubble gum on the bottom of an aristocrat’s shoe.

But I don’t…

I don’t typically respond personally to the gibberish that is floating all over the internet, but I’m surprisingly emotional about Donald Maass’s “adorable” article on Writer Unboxed. (“Adorable” is a southern lady’s way of saying many things that mean something other than adorable. None of them good. And none of them get said on this blog.)

You should read the entire article her...

I Don’t Believe in #FREE

Get-MINDSPEAK-for-freeHappy Wednesday! I’m giving Mindspeak away for #FREE right now on Kindle, KOBO, and iTunes. It’s my way of celebrating Valentine’s Day and sending love out to all of you fabulous readers who I haven’t met yet. Will you be mine?♥

But here’s the thing… I don’t really believe in FREE. Almost nothing in this life is free. Someone paid a price (sometimes a huge one) for everything we receive. Feel free to challenge me on this. You tell me something you got for free, and I’ll point out the price pai...

Inside My SOC Drawer: #FridayReads

As many of you know, I’ve started a new series on my Facebook Writer Page titled, Inside My SOC Drawer. I will post daily (mostly Monday through Friday) what’s running through myStream of Consciousness. This week, with your help, I’ve started to assign themes to the posts. Sometimes, if I think it will fit the theme of my blog, I will include the Facebook post here on the blog. You can join the conversation on my page, or you can comment below and start/join in the conversation here.

Now, onto...

My SOC Drawer: We Need a “Puke” Button On Facebook

Sock Drawer by Pay No MindGood Saturday Morning! This post is inspired by the 10-day forecast my friend, Melissa Gregory just shared on her FB timeline for my area – nothing but cold and snow for my SOUTHERN town. I think Facebook needs a “PUKE” button in addition to the “Like” button.

Where’s the suggestion box for this place?

Although, since it is so blizzardly out today (“PUKE”), I’m planning to get some solid writing done (“YAY”). What else can one do on a day of 35 mph wind gusts of blowing snow? (Which could also...

From My SOC Drawer: What a Dumb Asp!

Asp by The Patron Saint

Me (talking to the driver in front of me yesterday while maneuvering on a sheet of ice): Oh, my gosh, don’t be stupid.

Daughter: What a dumb apple.

Me, half-laughing: I totally thought you were going to say dumb a$$.

Daughter: Of course not.

Me: You shouldn’t say dumb apple, either. (Although I’m still struggling to come up with a good enough reason as to why not. Other than it’s not very nice to call someone names.)

Daughter: It’s better than calling someone a dumb asp.

Me (after a burst of laught...

My SOC Drawer: Do NOT Hit “Like” When Someone’s Cat Dies. It’s Not Nice.

I do not write an advice column. Wait… do you guys want some advice? Maybe I’m getting this all wrong.

Welcome to… What day is this? …oh, yeah, that’s right. …Wednesday’s episode of “MY SOC DRAWER” where you get to hear a mashup of what’s churning through my head. Don’t be afraid, we’ll try to make it fun. Except when life throws something that’s not fun at us. No, it’ll be fun then, too, because we’ll throw lit firecrackers at whatever that “thing” is. (There’s no use for them if they’re not...

My SOC Drawer: Here Comes the Snow Again

IMG_1002

I started something recently on my Facebook page that I thought I’d like to share on my blog. I’m considering making it a “thing.” They are posts each morning with my stream of consciousness, and I’m thinking, why let Facebook have all the fun? My mind can be a scary, serious, comical, stupid, confusing, and random place. Sometimes my thoughts come out carefully constructed, and other times, my words are a jumbled mess of nothingness. Either way, the posts are ways for us to figure some thing...
