Apparently, I Need To Visit Germany
I dream of visiting this bookstore! Photo by Mélanie at https://www.flickr.com/photos/diluvie... (Creative Commons)
One of my biggest dreams when I first began thetrek downthe publishing path was to have a page on my website that displayed all of my foreign covers, and in that dream, there were many, many covers. (Don’t judge. A girl can dream.)
And when I first published Mindspeak, I remember being mesmerized by foreign sales. Selling two books in Australia in a week was enough to send me hap...

A Post April 15th To-Do List and Other Random Thoughts
As most of you know by now, I’m a full-time tax accountant during certain parts of the year (one of those parts ended yesterday on April 15th, in case you’re keeping up). And if you’re on this blog, you also know I’m a full-time writer during other parts of the year. I start one of those parts TODAY.
As you can imagine, it’s difficult to switch back and forth between a mind of numbers and law to a mind of creativity. And I switch back and forth a lot during January and February. By March 1, or...

A Life Dissettled
I don’t know if you’ve noticed a new button in my side bar. Or maybe you’ve seen my tweets, Facebook or Google+ posts. I started a new blog – A Life Dissettled.
“Why?” you might ask. Well, for fun, really. I write a lot on this blog (heathersunseri.com) about the writing life and keeping you informed about news surrounding the Mindspeak series (and, in theory, future projects). A Life Dissettled is a little more of “me.” It’s a blog about what it means to lead a dissettled life— a life of choo...

Doubt Kills More Dreams Than Failure Ever Will
Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will… True or false?
There are certain times of the day, month, year that I’m filled with inspiration, hope and an attitude that I cannot possibly fail.
Then, there are other times. Dark times. Times when a doubt so strong seeps into my mind and threatens the aspirations and dreams of my heart.
I’ve let doubt kill a few dreams during my lifetime. Looking back, I realize those dreams and aspirations simply weren’t meant to be. Because if they were meant t...

A Quote That Might Help Those Struggling to Find Time To Write
“E.L. Doctorow once said that ‘Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can see only as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.’ You don’t have to see where you’re going, you don’t have to see your destination or everything you will pass along the way. You just have to see two or three feet ahead of you. This is right up there with the best advice on writing, or life, I have ever heard.” Anne Lammott,Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life

It’s Never Too Late
So many people (SO MANY) tell me that they don’t see how I’ve found the time to write a book. Others who have managed to write tell me that they could never take the time it requires to publish and market a book.
I hear people say, “I would have liked to do what you’re doing…
“…if things had been different.”
“…if I had the time.”
“…if I had the money to pay for editors, cover design, etc.”
“…if wasn’t still raising children.”
“…if my children weren’t so busy.”
“…if I didn’t have another job that I w...

What Does Your Heart Want?
My heart is screaming loudly at me these days! And my mind has it’s own Edward Scissorhands boxing gloves on. Luckily, my heart is extremely resilient against bullies!
What is your heart telling you today that your mind isn’t? Which one are you listening to?

Give Readers What They Didn’t Know They Wanted
I read so often on industry blogs how we must obey certain rules when creating stories for our readers. Agents and publishers are often looking for certain “marketable” stories. If an acquisition editor can’t compare it to other successful stories or identify the specific bookstore shelf on which to place a story, they sometimes feel a bit lost and end up rejecting a well-written, perfectly told story that readers would have loved.
I’ve seen this happen. I have friends who have beautifully wri...

Dream, Plan, Create
Everything meaningful you do starts with a dream. But nothing happens unless you actually do. So, go forth and create!

Facebook: I Discovered a Feature I Actually Like, and I Think You Will, Too!
It’s Monday! I wish I could say I’m excited about it. *heavy sigh*
And can you believe it’s almost March? I actually took a nice long walk on Saturday and jogged outside on Sunday. The warmth and the sunshine was much needed. Then it snowed like two hours later. And not just any snow. It snowed jumbo-sized cotton balls. I’m not even kidding when I tell you it snowed the largest snowflakes I’ve ever seen in my entire life. They thankfully melted almost as quickly as they arrived.
So… Facebook…
I’...
