Zero Day
a series by Ezekiel Boone
When I came across The Hatching series, by
Ezekiel Boone
, I knew it was the series for me! I purchased The Hatching, both the hard cover book and audio. I listened to the story in a day! It was absolutely amazing! When book two, Skitter came out, I was looking for the same maniacal arachnophobia with a serious case of entertainingly grossed out horror. I did not. Actually I was a bit let down, but still enjoyed the storyline. So what did I think of Zero Day, the final installment of this creepy crawly series? #element-05acb282-08c5-429d-8185-8db14ccca47f .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
In Zero Day, the world is doing their best to end the monsters but they can't keep up. They are evolving in a matter of months, their venom just as poisonous AND they seem to have a plan!
The world does their best to handle the constant upgrades in their eight-legged foes but they aren't doing so well. They've nuked the country and done their best to quarantine infected locations, but will it be enough? Can they stop the monsters? And what about the humans that always go nutso when the apocalypse rears its ugly head?
The story still progressed and are to a satisfactory ending, but all the thrill and icky grossness that blossomed in book one never really returned. It was a bit of a bummer. I don't know if anyone else felt that way, but it's almost as if Boone just fizzled out on what to do with the monsters and the people. He gave book one 1000% then just fell away... It's hard writing books.
So I enjoyed the story and the other books, but I almost wish he'd come out with one more, filled with everything missing from books 2 & 3. Then end it!
Check out The Hatching series- but read The Hatching! That will get you like no other spider story could! Cheers!

Tremors (6): A Cold Day In Hell
B-Movie Review
If I recall correctly, I was living in Jacksonville, FL and about 18 years old when the very first Tremors movie cam out. I thought it was one of the best- next to the Alien and Terminator movies. It had nightmarish monsters that didn't go away, no matter how long you waited them out. The movie made me laugh, jump and cringe. Number two was pretty good too but after that one...
Can number six actually be something worth watching? Here's my review of Tremors: A Cold Day In Hell. #element-43a9a950-135a-46a2-91e7-046da712d66e .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
So Bert is back. He's as old as a scarecrow but as feisty as a desert rattler. He thinks he should be above tax paying, after saving the world several times, both past and future! But the IRS wants blood. He spends most of his time waiting them out and chasing them off, until he's contacted by a geological group in the Canada Arctic. They've been attacked by graboids in the ice! Since this is what he lives for, he and his son heads out!
The problem is, the people they join don't seem to know what's going on. Only Val, the daughter of our original Val (Kevin Bacon character) seems to know. Together, with a rag tag crew, they fight to rid Canada of the ancient, worm-like creatures.
So what did I like about it? In a way, they stuck to the original movie attacks, but they also made th attacks much longer than necessary. The whole point of their snake appendages was that they pulled the victim inside. Over and Done in a minute, yeah? Nope. One scene had one shaking a female about like the first attack in Jaws. Another with a guy who hid inside a truck. It made no sense. Another thing I thought was jenky was Burt's inner-connection. I won't go into detail to prevent SPOILERS but it made me think of Friday the 13th when Tina Shepard knew Jason intimately.
Tremors: A Cold Day In Hell is funny, like all the others and filled with lots of action. It is, of course, still B-movie. It's cheesy, it's silly but th FX are so much better than the last few. Check it out- playing on Netflix. Cheers! Tremors: A Cold Day In Hell

Less Sugar, More Honey
Written by Jay Lee
There are stories that offer remarkable, respectable twists. Other's twist your mind within the story, placing (the reader) dead center of some of the strangest, weirdest and most scandalous situations imagined! And all you can do is turn a page, tsk tsk tsk and roll onward with a devious grin on your face. That's what I did with Less Sugar, More Honey: A Sister Story by Jay Lee.
Oh my goodness... #element-e7279f38-22a7-424c-be8c-370da1e40c90 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Every. now and then I read books that create a vortex of insane drama. The tell me that my life is extremely boring and evidently I am poor. They name drop clothing and vehicular lines that make my Ford Escape look like Pinto and my house a shed! Ugh... I thought I was doing good.
In Less Sugar, More Honey: A Sister Story, a set of sisters and a bestie close enough to be considered a sister go through some things. They have men who can whisk them away on trips that carry them through Dubai, Hawaii and even further out. They wear clothing names I've never heard of and shoes that should more like Chinese food than items to wear. (Except Nikes! LOL) Anyway, every family has skeletons- these are just a bit fresh.
Celeste is the friend but Daria and Gianna are the ones who carry the bulk of the internal issues. It's good though because once it all ends, it ends with a bang! I can admit, I didn't see the ending coming. I didn't see half of what happened in this book to happen and it's only 109 pages long! I was like, "Ewww!" and "Dang- for real?" and many other surprising shout outs. This book is unreal, but I read it quickly. I'd have finished it in a day if I didn't teach!
If you're looking for a story that will put you in the middle of some raunchy situations, lots of cursing during dramatic events that will have you either laughing or "Oooing", this is your book. Check out Less Sugar, More Honey while I move on to the next read. Cheers!

Birthday Thank You!
This has been one of those amazing days where my boys made me feel like a million bucks! As you can see, I wore my lovely tiara, smiled, got some good grub, gifts, sushi and caught an amazing movie- well worth waiting for. June 15th was a perfect, birthday day! #element-01ea1a22-d1ae-4123-84ed-197997f398b0 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
This Gemini's day began with a swim at the pool, I went to see The Incredibles 2, ate sushi, shopped at my favorite stores (Old Navy and Target) and more! I'm a simple gal but my boys gave me a day fit for a the Queen in Me! I'm a very happy gal.I wanted to just give a brief Thank you to everyone who was so kind to wish me well and send blessings and virtual hugs. You all made me feel special and so appreciated. What more could a happy gal ask for? Thank You!
Cheers!

This Is A Taco
Children's Book by Andrew Cangelose &
Illustrations by Josh Shipley
OMGosh, this book is so funny! Mostly because the squirrel, named Taco, doesn't do things by the book. Literally! Check out this new release that's sure to win children's hearts of all ages. This Is a Taco, by Andrew Cangelose. #element-a0961dd1-0946-4591-b08c-05bc87eb8472 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
This Is a Taco! is an educational story about the lives of squirrels. Well, one squirrel in particular. His name is Taco. He talks about how clean squirrels are and even how their feet are able to change directions as they climb and scurry about in trees. The facts are interesting, but what's adorable about the book is now Taco takes over the explanations- choosing to rework the natural order of things to suit himself. It's funny.
The illustrations are bright, colorful and somewhat interactive. The wording is easy for children to read but not so simple that older children/adults can't enjoy it as well. This book is a blast and I think anyone will love reading This Is a Tac!.
Check it out!

Unchosen
By Jeffrey Cook & Kathrine Perkins
What do you do when the hero of the story dies in the first freaking chapter? You and your mates go back to square one and begin again. That's exactly what takes place in Unchosen, by Jeffrey Cook and Katherine Perkins.
Unchosen is a fantastical tale concerning a war. There are things of all... nationalities involved, all over what has to be earth from my understanding. Right now things are taking place on what I believe is North America, but through magical portals, it can cut across to other continents as well. The thing is, the world's changed and it's not for the better and there's one
The crew is battling the evil Xharomor and his never-ending horde of minions. There are wizards chanting over mummies, trolls, and other things fighting to get inside the Horizone Academy- which is the school everyone is trying to defend and IT'S JUST UTTER CHAOS! But the story truly begins when the hero, the "Chosen One" gets killed off in like minutes! It's sorta funny!
#element-5ab01cc2-a675-47fe-97b9-f96b139d9fef .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
As exciting as Unchosen is, I had a bit of trouble with the story. Because it begins so big, names of powers, locations and creatures are being tossed about like I already know who and what they are. It's very difficult to keep up with something when you've never heard of it a day in your life! I didn't know what to think often when the characters were debating on what their next moves were.
Two authors wrote Unchosen so it I was impressed at how I couldn't tell where one's chapter began and the other's ended. It was seamless storytelling and I found great appreciation in that. Sometimes you can see where one author was going over the other's if it's not written well. I did enjoy the story, but was slightly put off by not understanding all of it.
Various times a situation, process or name of a group was mentioned but there wasn't always enough detail to know what it was. It happened several times, leaving me confused. I wish the author's had added more, taking time to inform; I think that would have given it a boost in ratings from me. All in all though, I liked the adventure.
So if you're looking for a cool adventure, check out Unchosen. Cheers!

The Wicked Deep
Written by Shea Ernshaw
The Wicked Deep, by
Shea Ernshaw
, is a telling of the past that constantly returns to the present. It's about how three sisters, murdered for being witches, return to a tiny seaside town annually, to exact their revenge. #element-a45f4052-4894-474c-b667-2de6bca12540 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Do not get tricked by this book! You have to pay attention in order to know what's really happening. The author thought she got me, but I paid attention to the wording. What I didn't figure out what how it would all end. To be honest, I was satisfied with the ending.
The book is simply written with a great deal of emotion. I wish I'd read the book instead of listening to it, to be frank. The author did a fab job, but the narrator (Casey Turner) didn't have the right voice. Don't get me wrong, she has a pleasant voice, but there wasn't a great deal of emotion and inflection. It was more like a poetic reading than a fantasy of great love and sacrifice and witchcraft/magic! I was sorta bummed out. What I may do is go back and read it instead of listen. For that reason, I gave the book 4/5 stars on Amazon and Goodreads. I can change it later on.
If you're looking for twisted romance, fantasy and some wicked sisters, The Wicked Deep may be your tale. I'm moving on the next read. Cheers!

CARGO
A Netflix Original Movie
In CARGO, the zompoc's reach goes deep into the Australian Outback and into the community of the Aborigine. It makes you think of movies like 28 Days Later and It Stains the Sands Red but Cargo is different. This is no pointless shamble and run movie; it's all about the labor of love. You have to watch this movie, now available on Netflix. #element-e4644c35-eb80-4b7f-9beb-48aa6226d673 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Cargo tells the story about a husband and wife, doing their best to be careful and survive the zombie apocalypse. You can tell the plague has been around for a while and the one thing that feels familiar is that once someone's bit, you have a countdown. Conveniently, they have a timer. After a set of unfortunate events, the father, Andy (played by Martin Freeman), must get his daughter someplace safe. It's difficult because the creatures are everywhere and there's always a person or two who you think would be kind and ends up being one of the monstrous survivors!
The movie touches your frigging heart strings! At first, I figured it would be just like all the other zombie movies, but this was very original. The cast is excellent, though you're not quite sure what's happening with the Aborigines. Then once you know, you hope for the best and watch with a sense of... well, I don't think I should say. SPOILERS and all. lol
What I can tell you about Cargo, and it's going to sound crazy but it's a beautifu. The story, to me is strong and the purpose is given almost immediately, allowing you to desperately seek out what Andy's needing. The action isn't intense or nail biting, but you find yourself wanting a happy ending. I think it comfortably sits in the zombie genre, but carries a freshness that surprises enough to say "Cargo is a good movie." Two thumbs up, if you ask me. Take a peek while I move on to the next review. Cheers! Cargo

Produced by Russell Ackerman, Kristina Cayton, Samantha Jennings & Mark Patterson
Written by Yolanda Ramke
Starring Martin Freeman, Simone Landers, Anthony Hayes, and Carmen Pistorius

Memorial Day (US)
It's my day off!
Hey gang! For those in the US, I hope you are enjoying your Memorial Day. Though many will be grilling burgers and steaks, I'll be remembering the veterans, Both alive and passed on.
My awesome father, daddy and all around nice guy was a Marine who returned to become one of the best Field Service Engineer's who worked for McDonnell Douglas and Boeing! He's the reason I am the person I am, my daughter is who she is and my son is becoming one of us. I'll be forever grateful for his service and the service of many others.
I know I'm always talking about how I wish I'd been born a Brit (and I do), but I'm American. That means I'm free and proud of it. My dad, his grandfather and many others before him, along with uncles, aunts, cousins- even my brother served a short time in the Navy- they all helped to make this country what it is today.
I pray you spend time with your family, looking at photos in remembrance of those individuals. Cheers!

Sometimes Netflix has good movies; other times the movies are horrible and quite a bore. That's what happened with The Charnel House. This movie had to be one of those made for TV movies for starters and then it was... well, I'll just get into the review. #element-a533d201-2a32-4218-8398-6a799ace7ca3 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
The Charnal House used to be a slaughterhouse. It's now a major, high-tech apartment building. Everything you could want in a studio home. Pictures that morph into Siri on your wall, fancy kitchens and keys that are all electronic and even voice-activated. It's amazing, but it was the business home of a horrible mass murderer. The owner even committed suicide.
Sometimes secrets refuse to stay buried. When the owner of the remodeled building begins to exhibit strange behavior, no one notices. When people begin to vanish, no one notices. As a matter of fact, no one noticed anything strange till practically the end of the movie. The haunted apartment building has a strange ghost and doesn't seem to like anyone.
