The Wife Between Us
By Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen
Narrated by Julia Whelan *An Audiobook Review
When I tell you this novel will have you thinking twice, maybe thrice, looking over your shoulder and even checking your mobile for tracking apps! The Wife Between Us, by
Greer Hendricks
and
Sarah Pekkanen
, is a novel that will keep you reading, while wondering if both authors were out of their minds while writing. I loved it, but let me tell you why... #element-5ee54779-710b-45ea-8a28-d1dacc71b021 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Now I have to admit, I am still a bit confused with a bit of this book, but I'm happy with the shock. At first, I thought I raw reading a novel about a scorned ex-wife who wanted to prevent her ex's up-coming nuptials. Then, to me, it seemed the wife doing the chasing became the chased! The story shifts to being about Nelly trying to prevent another woman from marrying the same man! Now Emma is the one being chased and Nelly, also known as Vanessa, is having to see the world through new eyes. It's totally freaking amazing because even Emma had a story that came from the past and blew me away! Did you get all that?
It's okay. From what I understand, many of the other reviewers were tossed about as well. When I say The Wife Between Us confuses, it's not a lie but in a good way. You love it so much, even in your state of "WTH!" that you keep reading. Eagerly!
Written by two international best-sellers, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, The Wife Between Us is one of those books I normally would have steered away from. I'm so happy I didn't. You have to read this if you like marital insanity, stalking, love, lies and more! Grab yourself a copy; I bought the audiobook version, narrated by Julia Whelan. She was amazing and voiced everyone perfectly well. READ IT while I move on to the next read. Cheers!

I Am Soul
A book of poetry by Yecheilyah Ysrayl
If I recall correctly, I've only reviewed one other book of poetry and that was a couple years ago. I admit I was thrilled to be offered this one- especially with such a lovely cover! Have you seen it? Oh, it's absolutely gorgeous. Do you love poetry? If your answer is yes, you should check out I Am Soul, by Yecheilyah Ysrayl. #element-1c07ebf1-accb-4ed2-afd0-22ec68180949 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
This book of both poetry and prose made me slow down. I got to see inside the soul of Ysrayl, allowing me to see the world from several perspectives. Taking from both a spiritual standpoint, as well as an authentic, one, I saw the world anew. I've never been a poet or a big reader of poetry, which is why I chose I Am Soul, but I loved this book!
The book is of discovery, healing and a slight political stance. It covers issues from simple being to issues of current affairs. It's beautiful, soft and strong. From beginning to end the book is inspiring and reached into depths of my own inquisitive mind and soul. Not only does the cover capture me, but the words as well. I even found myself reading a few out loud.
If you are poetry lover, this collection is one you may wish to check out I Am Soul. Cheers!

The Hairy Fairy: Hairy Fairy Tales book 1
Written by Mark Watson &
Illustrated by Doriano Strogolo
The Hairy Fairy is one of those books that is just pure childish fun! It's silly, goofy and a tad bit unordinary!
The story is fun but the illustrations are what won me over. Sadly, there is a particular situation that I didn't find appropriate for kids. You'll see it at the very end. If you enjoy kids books, this one's entertaining.

Kevin and the Seven Lions
I think this book shares the life of a child who's got an extremely short attention span. What do you do and how can you help him/her feel they can take control? Kevin and the Seven Lions, by Martin Tiller does just that. This book is an adorable way to get children to find a way to control a bad habit, one we all suffer from: Daydreaming. Kevin's schoolteacher understands he's got a small problem that distracts him from learning. Instead of chastizing him, she finds a way to tap into his creative mind to produce something useful.Kevin and The Seven Lions is a nice, read-a-long for the wee ones. The illustrations are fantastic and eye-catching, by Carla Tracy. My ewoks definitely enjoyed it. Check it out as I move on to the next read!
Cheers!

Caught
A movie review
I jumped on this movie by chance, back in March. I'm so happy I got it. Caught is like an English, classic, horror movie. It's heavy in suspense and full of creep factor. If you're not queasy or squeamish, Caught could be your movie! #element-ecd452de-0f67-4c26-aef9-0ac18fa58ccf .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
It's all about this image above- what they're looking at. Caught is one of those movies where you don't actually see what it's all about, but the impression is so heavy, the idea is huge and the suspense is deep, it's literally keeps you hooked until the very end.
Caught tells the story about a journalistic couple who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. All they know is they're investigating a case where the government/military has taken control of an area on of the English moors. They wanted to catch a story. They "caught" something else.
When two individuals come to their home to interview them, they're in for the fight of their lives.
This movie is now a part of my movie collection. Not because they're in Sussex or because it was creepy as all get-out. I own it because of the suspense. It's made like a classic horror movie, where the thought of what could happen is worse than what you see happen. When the two individuals visit Andrew and Julie, you already know it's not going to go well. They are not Jehovah's Witnesses, as assumed in the beginning. It's more than that. It's bigger than that and goes from weird to bad to horrible in a heartbeat!
Caught is an excellent horror movie. If you're a scare-monger like me, you will enjoy this English movie. Check it out- Cheers!

Whatever After series, Book 2: If The Shoe Fits
by Sarah Mlynowski &
narrated by Emily Elden
What do you do when your glass slipper, that could walk you into a life of lavish honor is shattered? What if said ruined glass slipper is shattered after it crashed onto your foot, leaving you unable to even try on the shoe when the Prince's assist arrives? What do you do? What do you do? #element-5b18473a-e3c4-4134-8232-ecf086f5610b .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
In Whatever After: If the Shoe Fits, by Sarah Mylnowski, tells of how Abby and Jonah manage to ruin another tale! Cinderella is working the original tale, with lizards, rats and bad pumpkins. She's also got a Fairy Godmother who doesn't just do requests. She makes you earn them.
What I liked most about this book is that it came during the week of International Women's Day. The story had Cinderella going out and doing things for herself, not solely depending on magic to bail her out. What began to bother me were Abby and Jonah. They always ruin things, then say 'Duh' when someone questions their actions and motives. You can't just barge into people fairly lives, mess them up and then act all superior! LOL
Though I enjoyed the first book, this one became a bit annoying. Still cute, but I think I'm done reviewing this series.I do believe both girls and boys (mostly girls though) would like a few of these tales. Check them out!

Whatever After Series, Book 1: Fairest of All
by Sarah Mlynowski &
narrated by Emily Eiden
Everyone has a version of a fairy tale to share. In the Whatever After series, Mlynowski shifts things about for the younger readers. It's silly, funny, childish and filled with loads of fast-paced fun! In Fairest of All, sister and brother Abby and Jonah get sucked into a strange mirror in their basement and are whisked way to a place where someone needs rescuing from an evil step-mother! #element-761c5d61-bd8f-4b2a-8ff8-393acc34000d .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
In Fairest of All, Abby and Jonah have to help a girl named Snow White avoid being poisoned but still meet up with the prince, so she can have her happily ever after! The story is one of the silliest I've read in a while, but great for the chapter readers that dive in.
The book covers to the series are bright, bold and covered with adorable characters- all fairytale. I got to enjoy the audiobooks, so the read is super-fast, and Emily Eidon's narration was adorable. Her voice sounded like a little kids- making it real and sorta cheesy, but good.
I enjoyed it, but it was a tad sweeter than I'm used to. No matter; if your girls are between the ages of 9-12, I bet they'll enjoy this book and the Whatever After series! Check it out. Cheers!

Rampage
*Video Game to Movie Review
Okay so Mother's Day was amazing! I'd already participated in an early celebration with my mom and grandmother at #ThreeKings, an awesome restaurant with a fab black bean veggie burger on Friday, which was a blast. Sunday, actual Mother's Day, my mom and I went to see Rampage (Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), at her request. At first, I thought it would be some silly, CG gorilla and a few other hybrid creatures running through a city giving off dire destruction... #element-91c86e8a-6532-4750-ba91-5df8a837a478 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Well, it was a movie with a CG gorilla and other hybrid creatures handing off dire destruction to Chicago, but it was also a really fun movie!
The ever-handsome Dwayne Johnson plays Davis Okoye, a primatologist who's best friends with George, an albino gorilla he rescued from poachers years ago. When his center, along with what I believe was a forest of wild wolves and a crocodile-filled swamp, are pummeled by rogue, experiment canisters from outer space. These affected creatures tear across North America, on an unknown quest, destroying everything in their paths.
What I loved about this movie first is. well... Dwayne Johnson! Like his colleague said, "Girls love the bald heads". No- YES, but really I loved how it was non-stop action. Yes, it's all unreal and yes most of the movie is in CG but it's 100% entertaining.
I also liked that it's from a video game. Most game to movie movies suck (excluding a few top sellers) but this one was right on time. I was reminded, by my brother, how he'd played the game all the time. At first I hadn't linked the two, but thanks to his tidbit, I recalled and was blown away with the story and action. I'm not a gamer, but I've always been the game observer. I got my thrills from watching others play and win. The only time I'm a Big Gamer is when I play on my mini-Atari system (with all the classic games). Rampage managed to hold to a lot of the game in that there is utter destruction everywhere you look. I didn't even realize that was Ralph and Lizzie! LOL
This movie is rated PG-13 but I think there's a tad bit more profanity involved than I'd prefer for my 13-year old. He's no innocent but to have him overly exposed to the comedic malediction (which seems to be in most movies lately: Ninja Turtles, Transformers, the new Jumanji and Ready Player One) isn't something I do without caution. I always view the movie first, so my son won't be running amuck, repeating what he's heard, thinking it's funny. I still have the right to control his viewing of such imprecation.
I can still say, from an adult standpoint, "Good show Bally Midway and New Line Cinema with WB and a couple others!" Rampage won't win any awards but it will definitely have you jumping for folks, laughing and cringing at some of the deaths. Go to the show and check this movie out. I may actually purchase it. I'm off to the next movie review. Cheers! Rampage

Murray the Race Horse
Written by Gavin Puckett &
Illustrated by Tor Freeman
What's a horse to do? Murray the horse wanted to race, be a winner like his parents and other horses of the stable, but he just wasn't fast enough. Laughed at by other horses, he resigns himself to being a work horse instead, watching from the sidelines. Through a misfortune of another horse, Murray get the opportunity to show he can race. He can be fast and he can win if he so chooses. But how? #element-b326b2c5-37a9-4147-8d0f-212807e39cb5 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Murray the Race Horse is a cute rhyme of a read. With illustrations that make you laugh as much as the story itself, you can't help but like the story. It tells children in a fun way that even if the world tells you what you can't do; even if they talk about you behind your back about how you aren't worth anything- you don't have to listen. Hold our head high and push- show them how it's really done!
This was an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy), but grab a copy of Puckett's Murray the Race Horse when it becomes available. Gavin Puckett has a few other horse tales to read if you can't wait. I'm moving on to the next read. Cheers!

Beyond Skyline, 2017
When I head they finally made a follow up to the amazing Skyline of 2010, I prayed it would be as good, with a better ending. I'd purchased Skyline on both dvd and in my iTunes collection. Beyond Skyline had to provide just as much action, along with an explanation that would give a great ending and remove me from the eight year limbo I'd been sitting in. Did it work? #element-15e0e4fd-777f-4460-a0b2-b8c5320efc14 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Yes and no. Beyond Skyline sorta picks up where Skyline left off, only it takes place when the original movie began. Remember when those blue balls of light fell from the sky in the first movie? Well that's when this begins, only it goes deeper. We get to go inside one of the ships when you first saw people being vacuumed into the air. Good right?Wrong. The drones being created look different first off. They were made with three, beady sets of eyes. Beyond Skyline, they had two sets that sorta blink. Sorta. And then, though Elaine looks different, she's not just days pregnant but three months... How'd that happen in three days time? The movie explains so I can't... Just know that it makes science fiction sense. Also, Jarrod is still protecting her. Aww, love is still grand.
But in this one, it's not about Elaine and Jarrod, but Mark and his son, who was taken aboard before him. And then it gets weird. Stuff happens and they end up in a place that had me just bummed. Then from there, the movie lost me. BUT I was given a full explanation- erm, a science fiction explanation on why the aliens were there and what the initial attack was all about.
Beyond Skyline is a fun movie. The FX are still pretty good, just not as good as the first movie. You can tell where they went cheap, like with most of the acting. Then some of the fights scenes didn't make much sense. The alien drones are supposed to be like seven and eight feet tall, but when they fought, the aliens are barely a shoulder above in height. As previously mentioned, the acting isn't as good either, which made it a bit boring and bland after the ship scenes, but I admit- I bought the movie. I'm a sucker for closure. Sure me! LOL
Anyway, check out Beyond Skyline. The first movie is still the best, by far, but you'll be entertained. Just ignore the lame, last like 40 minutes and you'll be cool.
Cheers!
