The Demonic

An Audionovel by Lee Mountford
Narrated by Hannibal Hills

Picture First off, is the name of the narrator real? Hannibal Hills? Really?  Okay, outside of that, The Demonic is my first novel by Lee Mountford . It's a true haunt but not of a house. More like a person or a mill, so to speak.

When a woman inherits a home she'd abandoned years ago, thanks to an awful father, she had to go back to see him put into the ground- not to rest. The terrible thing is, he's been waiting for her to come back and he's not happy. Not one bit, but neither is something else...
When I began this audiobook, I didn't imagine feeling a bit empty at the end. Most haunted house stories have similar endings: either there isn't one or the monster never truly dies. I knew how this one would end. I saw what was taking place and I saw how things changed, like most classic hauntings of demonic nature. It's very hard to change; you have to be truly original and work in subtleties that haven't been seen before. That didn't happen in The Demonic.

The locations (ESPECIALLY THE LOCATIONS) were perfect for me. Anything that is across the pond is a mega-win for me, but the story just didn't do it for me. The narrator was decent, but the ghostly, voice-changing bit made the tale a bit hokey. I didn't like that. It was more of a distraction than lending a bit of creep. Also, I didn't like how the transition took place between Donnie and John. When the division began, I knew exactly what was happening but it was drawn out. I grew bored after that, sad to say.

The story carries the spook-factor but was it one of the best, nah. I kept it in my audio library though, so that says something. I'll listen to it again one day. maybe my mind will shift. I also plan to listen to another book by Mountford to see if things get better.

Check The Demonic out for yourself; I'm moving on to the next read.  Cheers!

How It Ends

*A Movie Review
Picture What if the world decided it was going to change...

Whether initiated by man or by nature, how could the world and all the inhabitants manage? Would we survive at all? And what if everything that happened, even if started by nature, was definitely ruined by man? This is my review for the Netflix Original, How It Ends.
#element-46b73745-1410-4c16-942b-8133088f39aa .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;} Picture Picture How It Ends is the story of a man doing his best to get back to his woman, who's withchild. During his time away, an "event" takes place, similar to an EMP but not quite. Remember, I don't offer up SPOILERS, so everything you read may not be as it seems. So, the world has stopped and everyone's freaking out! While no one can figure out what's going on, things keep happening that keep survivors on their toes.

Now, while I can not give you my theory on what happened without telling the story, I can say that there's a great deal of speculation on what the so-called "event" actually turned out to be. Don't worry, you'll be left guessing too. Or maybe you're one of those techy fellas who can figure it out from jump. I don't know, but many are still trying to say. What I can tell you is How It Ends is one of those movies where it's about the journey, not the destination. You will arrive to several conclusions, or you'll be left not even caring.

Though How It Ends is an interesting movie, you tend to want to let go. I'm glad I didn't, but I don't feel as if I truly gained anything from watching from beginning to end. And honestly, when you see how it ends, you'll be wondering How It Ends even... Oh, just watch it if you're interested! I'm on to the next read. Cheers!

Do you remember where you were?
Picture You may not even be from the US but I bet you remember where you were when you found out about the attack on the Twin Towers. I was at work, at a federal records center when the man I am now married to, but was then just a guy I dated, ran to me and pulled me out to view the news ont he large screens in the lobby.

Many of us were in utter shock that something could happen to us, on our soil. Others cried; I was one of them. The disbelief, the lives lost, the great sadness. Out of the tragedy came a strength that, unfortunately was fleeting, but each year on this date we remember. We remember those who were lost. Those who were brave.

I won't be sharing any media today, but this post. I pray you have a wonderful day and please, never forget. #element-2585f52f-530b-4c9b-b649-595568cc7eac .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;} Picture

The Good Girl

A Novel by Mary Kubica
Picture Sometimes the twist is never seen, till it's revealed. Thankfully for me, I saw it coming. LOL I really did! IF you're on my Goodreads.com page, you'll see where I made a comment during my 'progress' post; I knew it was coming! Just nothing concerning the delivery.

This is The Good Girl, by Mary Kubica and here is my review...
#element-494ec05a-ae9d-4acf-8573-ce6ad3863897 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;} Picture Picture Chloe is damaged. She'd been through a devastating encounter which changed her life.  Something's on her mind, something telling her she's not okay and the emotional trauma she'd endured can never be forgotten.

Mia has always been the good girl. No, she didn't follow the plan her father had set for her life, but it's her life, right? No, she doesn't make a lot of money, continuing the posh lifestyle the lineage of old money had boasted before; she loves her job. But someone's been watching her. Someone who knows enough about her to lure her in and remove her from the world she knows, but do they really know her? Does anyone?

A lot of people claimed this book was supposed to have been comparable to Gone Girl and found themselves upset. I never read nor saw Gone Girl, so I had nothing to compare it to. So I read.

The Good Girl was an interesting story, but it wasn't excellent. I figured it out- I believe my comment in Goodreads said it all.It also meant I didn't care about the tory any longer and simply wanted to know how it all ended. I was a good girl though, by simply pushing through the final pages, I hit the epilogue that told me what I knew. But I didn't like the explanation.

The story's good but it just took way too long to get there. I won't say what happened but when you read it, you're gonna be like:
What the heck man, Cpt. Picard style too. You will feel sorta robbed, but not in a terrible way. It just won't be what you were looking for. You'll see, unless you figure it out too. I'm off to the next read. Cheers!

The Shepherd of the Black Sheep

An eBook written by Kristopher Triana
Picture It's always about family, yeah? When they're down, you do your best to help them out in any way you can, but taking care to not do too much. But when you lose your daughter and her husband, leaving a young child, there's never too much to do. That's what happens to poor Tom, his grand daughter, Paige, now his charge. What in the world could an old cowboy going to do with a modern, young girl?
This is Shepherd of The Black Sheep. #element-6e9a0c42-7436-426a-b22a-9d342394c8c0 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;} Picture Picture Shepherd Of The Black Sheep is one of those stories that makes you think of movies like Orphan or The Good Son. The twist is carefully crafted and makes you think you know what's going to happen - and in a way you do- but then again...

The story is about an old man who's good for his word. He's not one of those men who wears their emotions on their sleeves, but if he loves you he loves you forever, No. Matter. What. And he is loyal to a fault.

After losing just about everyone he loves, he's even a widower, he does his best to care for Paige. Both their worlds are torn but together they do their best to coexist with their trauma and relationship. It's not until a terrible event and the lose of a friend that things become worse for wear. Tom thinks the girl will be emotionally ruined from so much death about her. He walks on eggshells and tries to help her but his grand daughter doesn't seem to respond the way one should have. She worries him. When someone comes to their home, posing a threat, he makes sure the threat goes away. But does the live  beneath his roof... with him?

This book is written like one of those creepy thrillers that you can't stop watching- a train wreck in the making. I don't remember how I came across this author, but I'm so happy I found him or he found me. This was THE book of the month for me!

Grab yourself a copy of Shepherd of the Black Sheep and see what I'm talking about! I'm on to the next read. Cheers!

Disenchantment

An Animated Original on Netflix by
Matt Groening

Picture So I found a new show to binge on. It's another Matt Groening creation, as you can tell, about a princess who simply wants to live her life. Sadly she's not very princessy and causes more mischief than any one gal can handle. Add to her antics an elf and a demon named Luci and you have a new show with 10 episodes!
#element-e3e53037-f22e-419c-87f4-b06abeb36a03 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;} Picture Images found on Google but belong to Netflix.
So Disenchantment is about a gal who doesn't want to conduct her duties as a princess, which is to pretty much be used as a bargaining chip between two kingdoms. Her betrothed, the product of an incestual king and queen, is as about as smart as a rock- but he's handsome. Unfortunately, due to Princess Tiabeanie causing a disruption at her own wedding, he's removed from the marital equation, replace by the prince's brother. Nowhere near as good looking but containing all his mental faculties, he's set to step up to the plate. This is where the show kicks off.

Now while that brief summary is true, there's much more taking place. Stories like this one has been done before, but not through Groening's style of animation. I believe The Simpson's is losing steam after near all my life (crazy!) and we all know what happened with Futurama (which I still watch to this day!), Netflix seems to be the way to go. Shows last longer or when they fail, people can still watch and rate!

Right now, I'm not sure how I truly feel. It's got its share of funny moments but none of them made me burst with laughter, like Groening's other shows.I like it, but I want to love it, yet I can't- you know? Below I shared the trailer. Disenchantment released on August 17th. Hope you enjoy it.

I'm off to the next view, I guess. Cheers!

HellDivers III: Deliverance

*Audiobook Review by Nicholas Sansbury-Smith Picture This is one of the absolute best horror, dystopian monsters series! It's filled with action, great story and gruesome events that show even people can be worse than the things that want to eat you! Check out my thoughts on the final installment of Helldivers III: Deliverance by Nicholas Sansbury Smith .
#element-c7673690-1e40-4d5d-a182-620d757d78e1 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;} Picture Picture So X finally did his thing and made way for the remaining humans of Planet Earth! They'd been up in the air, literally and figuratively, for decades- longer actually! It didn't help that the things down below had once been people, nor were some of the remaining people all that great up above but it all worked out in the end.

Hell Divers is a series about saving the last of humanity. In Deliverance, everything comes to a head: the monsters, the remaining fighters on earth and control for Deliverance high above, in the thundering clouds.

I didn't think I'd like this series as much as I did. Not only were the monsters amazing and constantly coming at the remaining humans on the planet but they advanced. They changed in a way that made you terrified of what could come to pass from all the nuclear experimentation and ruining of our own atmosphere. This book and series takes you deeper than that. It's so far into the future, they don't even read/pronounce things the same. It's an amazing and truly advancing read.

I became a reader of Sansbury Smith about a year or so ago, now I have several of his books in my stash. You have to check this out if you like dystopian, futuristic horror. It's very original and totally worth the time invested. Read Hell Divers III: Deliverance.

*I just found out there's another book coming out late this years! I can't wait.

The Beyond

*A Netflix Movie Review
Picture Have you seen The Beyond? It's a movie I happened to catch on Netflix one Thursday afternoon. Normally I don't watch mockumentaries or 'Found Footage' films but this one is different.

A space anomaly appears over London air space as one of their astronauts vanishes. The anomaly, first spotted in 1990, has returned with the promise of scientific discovery and exploration... but does it come at at cost?
#element-cfcb65da-4687-4923-9d15-0e24f2a0ad31 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;} Picture Picture These dark, undulating aberrations are now all over the world, hovering over major citie and no one can figure out why they're there. Then they discover it's possibly a wormhole (void). Then they say, "Oh hey- why don't we go have a look!"

The Space Agency decides to make first contact by sending people into the void after their probe showed there's possibly another planet. But it's so dangerous, not any person can go. So they create the Human 2.0. Synthetic bodies operating with human brains.

The Beyond is presented as a documentary concerning what’s originally based on an invasion. Yet there's so much more! Incidents take place, alerting us measly humans to realizing there is more out there. There is more to the universe and what possibly created it.

More of a telling of environmental proportions, this science fiction movie is one that leaves you fascinated but rather bored. The beginning grabbed me, then it set me back quite a bit. Using docu-style explanations and first-hand experiences for all the dull bits and pieces, you come to understand the why's and how's. But really, you don't want to; you just want the action. It comes back but it just took way longer than I feel necessary.

The movie also raises some ethical issues that, to me, I bet have been discussed behind closed doors. I wouldn't put it past the government to do something as weird like this. With that being said, The Beyond takes a turn you don't expect. A neat turn but not enough for me to rant and rave about it.

Its an interesting movie with a concept that incites conversation. Sadly, not in my house. Nobody else was interested but me. LOL So now I am off to the next review. Cheers!
