The Girl Who Drank the Moon
*A Novel by Kelly Barnhill
Magic can be a powerful thing. In The Girl Who Drank the Moon, magic was everything. It was the reason the sun shined, why birds sang and how the animals went on the prowl. It also ruled a nearby village in this novel, so much they offered one of their babes each year to a witch who... kept them? Enslaved them? Ate them?

Rust & Stardust
*A novel by T. Greenwood
There are novels that captivate and enrapture you while you read. There are other books that grip you in a fist so rooted in fear, you can not look away from the pages, encapsulating you in a terror so great, all you do is cry and read and cry even more. That is Rust and Stardust, by T. Greenwood.
#element-a908034f-3a6f-4d9d-ad06-a275cfa4f26f .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
You have to understand, this book isn't simply a story, created from the fantasies and machinations of a great mind. No, Rust & Stardust is fiction and non-fiction combined. It's truth and imagionation, taken straight from the headlines!
Rust & Stardust is the telling of Florence "Sally" Horner. Taken on the way home from school by a man claiming to be FBI, she's thrown into a world where innocence is lost. Where sadness and depression and imagination are her only friends. Yet, there's so much more, both dark and light. There are people she meets and lives she touches that matter. That help. That eventually save her, but to what avail?
This book embodies every parent's nightmare. Shared with you are the POV's of many involved, so you know the pain and interests of them all. What grabs you most is little Sally. It's a story I never imagined reading, but thanks to being on the list of the right publisher, I received this book in advance. Sadly, I didn't get to read it till July and August. It's a spectacular book and you will not want to put it down.
I found myself looking up the images described inthe story. When Sally was on the swing, the newspaper clipping showing Sally and her capture. Even the one of her on the phone, with nobody there... It's so real- because it was real! There's also a bit of information in the Author's Notes, at the end of the book that shares more. You have to read from cover to cover. Seriously!
This is one for the ages.
I'm off to the next read. Cheers!

Red Wine & Roses
A Romance Novel by Ellie Mack
I met this lovely author at the gym.
Ellie Mack
is an author who can create a character anyone can relate to but it's best when the reader comes from the same background. We don't have people who are rich, super-model thin and riches flowing from their wallets like the Nile in Egypt. They';re real people. Red Wine & Roses is a novel I easily stepped in to and found myself a few imaginary friends.
#element-5ac7f2a4-1ab4-4013-a0d0-f1c67a60af3e .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Julia has a dream or two. She wants to own her very own bakery and she wants to meet a man who will love her for the woman she is, fall madly in love and be whisked away on a romantic trip just to fall deeper in love before wedding and live happily ever after. Naturally she knows these are dreams, so she rarely goes out or does anything that could possibly place her in a situation where she can be hurt. She's not skinny like the women she watches on tv and she doesn't believe she has the charm to capture a man's heart. She's wrong.
When she meets Derek, the guy she was not set up to meet by friend Jo and her cousin Mark, things seem to take off. But an ex-girlfriend and super-model seems to steal her thunder. What does she do? She runs away. But he comes after her, looking to rekindle the connection- in the same night! He seems like the man for her, even though he's got way too much on his plate trying to make partner at his law firm. But what happens between them is magical.. Sadly, as with any story, there's something of a tragedy in their future. Someone gets treated badly, someone else pulls off a terrible betrayal and hearts are broken. Mix that with Julia's disheartening background and you've got to sit with a glass of red wine!
This is book one of Mack's book collection and I can say that once I reach the end of the books I'm dedicated to reading and reviewing, I will be reading the rest of her stories. This book was literally a fast read and it's good. There's nothig boring about it. I do have to admit, some was a bit cheesy, but when are romance novels not carrying essence of Velveeta, eh?
I loved this book and if you're in to romance, you will too! Grap Ellie Mack's books - especially Red Wine & Roses. I'm moving on to the next read. Thanks for reading and have a fabulous day!

Indian Hill: A Michael Talbot Adventure
A Novel by Mark Tufo
The cool thing about Tufo novels is that you are usually following the same guy. He's a good guy, a down to earth guy who would put his life on the line for you if needed- as long as you'll do the same. But the Indian Hill series isn't quite what you think. There are no zombies here. There be something else.
An invasion.
#element-2d5d5b20-9912-40c8-b409-97d69777c7cf .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
In this small, New England town Mike Talbot and his best friend Paul are entering a major, maturing segment of their lives. Women are still important, along with the occasional left-handed cigarette, but mostly it's about bro's. The adventure begins when Mike's met the girl of his dreams. The woman he can't do without- his muse! That's when things go to pot.
During a concert, similar to Woodstock I guess, something breaks through the clouds, dark and ominous. When Mike wakes, he's in a small cell. A cell amongst thousands of cells, aboard a space vessel. The things that abducted him, along with about nine thousand other humans, look like humanoid crocodiles or alligators. They speak and only refer to people as "human". It's an annoying, rough and extremely ugly situation but so is what Mike's forced to do for alien entertainment. Something that places his life on a true Life or Death scale. But Mike's never been known to take things lying down. He has to get a plan together, so he and many others can return home.
Okay, so I'm already invested, having bought nearly all of these audiobooks. I can honestly say, I didn't like this one as much as I'd hoped. Not because it's not a good story but because there are some extremely vulgar situations that I've never read in Tufo books before. I understand why they're there but I didn't like it. One time I actually hit the FF button to get past the scene. It's bad. Bad but not enough to ruin the tale. I finished the story and as always rooted for my hero. Let's just hope that in book 2, none of the other stuff returns. If so, I'd honestly consider swapping those books out for something else.
That's one of the reasons why I love Audible. Check out Mark Tufo's Indian Hill. I'm on to the next read. Cheers!
*UPDATE:
I decided to return the rest of the books in this series. I am a lover of Mark Tufo's Zombie Fallout series and a couple others, but this one is not for me. I am not a fan of violence against women, of the sort that's described in this series. It was too much for me. so I let the series go. I won't read any more of these. His later books are the BOMB, but I can't do this one. Thanks!

Dweller
*A Generational Horror Novel by Jeff Strand
Narrated by Scott Thomas
Most kids, especially boys fear there’s a monster under the bed or in their closet. It’s almost like a rite of passage; every child must have a creature to fear. For me, it was whatever beast I’d previously watched in a movie. For Toby, it was different.
This is Dweller, by Jeff Strand.
#element-0cb08e98-60c3-41fd-a3ad-386c392b8c7f .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
As an 8-year old, Toby Floren met a monster in the woods behind his house. Like most, he ran away screaming like a banshee. Then he met him again. An again and again, till they became the best of friends. That’s where any form of sanity is lost with Dweller.
Toby, sadly an incredible Loser, befriends the monster, names it and takes a journey that leads to attacks, blood, gore and practically sacrifices for safety. The story took a turn that I never imagined and did not see coming. That’s what makes Dweller an excellent read.
The turns and development were unpredictable and left me surprised. The fact that this is a friendship that literally travels through time, decades of mistakes, laughs, and ‘what the hecks!’ The book goes from a childhood innocence to loss, deep sadness, tragedy, then a bloody massacre! It just gets worse and worse for Toby and he knows it’s gotten horrible, yet he just continues.
This story is one for the records and I am so happy I got the chance to read and review it. Grab a copy of Dweller Amazon or Audible. I’m off to the next read. Cheers!

Sunflower and the Panther
*A Children's Book by Fleurie LeClercq
Written around a village called Bankolo Hills in Yaoundé of Camaroon. A little girl, with a pure heart and an affinity for everything, Sun Flower shares what it means to care, love and understand. This a children’s book review of Sun Flower and the Panther by Fleurie Leclercq.

While walking to the river for water, with her friend Remi, they come across a trapped panther cub. What they do is unbelievable and not advised, but the story is lovely.
The illustrations are bright, colorful and a representation of West African culture. Sun Flower and her friend shows young readers that you can show love and care for anything with life. It’s a short and sweet book that doesn’t really have an ending. I’m thinking another book is coming along to step in to finish such a cute tale.

Extinction
*A Netflix Original Movie Review
What would you do if you consistently dreamt of being attacked? Not you personally, but your entire race, all that you knew and loved? When an engineer lost sleep, suffering from world-dominated nightmares, he tries his best to warn those he loves that something is coming. They don’t listen...
#element-df0dda46-27f3-4cb0-8e16-65442e22c113 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Extinction was Netflix’s release back in July. A man plagued with alien invasion nightmares, he feels he’s losing his mind. He can’t sleep, he suffers blackouts and his wife demands he see a therapist. But when what he’s seen turns from dream to reality, everyone wishing they’d listened. What ensues turns the world upside down and sends the viewer into an unexpected tailspin.
As I watched the movie, I began to think of movies like Skyline (not that crap sequel version either!) and Independence Day (first movie!). The sound FX were totally cool, making me think I was going to fall in love. Then I noticed the actual aliens. First I pondered what they were doing, other than killing people left and right. The invading aliens, who seemed to be wearing boots, and... crotch plating? I thought to myself, usually intelligent/invading life forms don’t have genitalia that obvious! I’m not going to go into the discovery that bummed me out, but I was right,yet I wasn’t.
What’s good about Extinction is the twist. You do not catch what’s happening until you’re told. At least I didnt. It’s unreal what takes place, making it an interesting flick but reminded me of Total Recall. Heck, I can’t say anymore! If keep going, I’ll be offering SPOILERS. I liked what was done but I guess I wasn’t that thrilled with the movie as a whole. So did I like it? Yeah, I did- but I didn’t.
They didn’t waste money on FX, it was all done well, but I guess the jury is still out on this one. If I had to give stars for my rating, I’d probably give it a 3.5 or 4. If you have a Netflix account, watch it. Let me know what you think.
I’m on to the next read/movie. Cheers!

The Secret
An eBook by Jessica Edwards
The Secret, by Jessica Edwards is nothing like the cover image offers. Yes, there some blind following here, that strikes you from the very beginning and you can't quite understand where the tale is going, but there's a great deal more to this story. The Secret, like an onion, is layer upon layer of... secrets!
#element-a6f801bf-0bd8-4541-97ee-1111345f0775 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
OhMaggie is a young woman filled with dedication to a ghost. Not literally of course, but her father's not been with the family in ten years. His presence is still felt, as he sends money, religiously to support his daughter and model of a Korean wife. But he come home? Why?
In his absence, he instructs Maggie to take particular lessons. Lessons mostly in language and self-defense. She doesn't know why, but she always does what she's supposed to do. It's not until three young men come into her life, not until she witnesses an incident she wishes she'd never seen take place. She's then forced into a world that leaves her breathless in both wonderment and violence. This is The Secret.
The first few chapters of this book left me thinking I wouldn't finish it. The personality of Maggie was not very likable from the start. The characters were stated to be attending university but I truly believe it was more like high school. The behaviors for all, except the gal who slept with her teacher, seemed more robotic than youthful. But then the action began and I grew interested.
I believe what threw me off with reading The Secret was the actual writing. Though many YA readers would probably overlook it, I felt there was way to much inner banter. She talked to herself and questioned everything So Much she made me weary! Eventually she tapered off, providing a fresh enough tale for me to finish rather quickly. I did run into many errors though. The story needs to be re-edited to smooth things out.
I must also ward you, this book is not a simple thriller of a youth novel. The Secret carries sexual situations. Violent sexual situations. It's not for the faint of heart. There is romance, but think more like (I've never read them, by the way) along the lines of fifty shadish stuff. But... You'll have to gauge it yourself.
If you're looking for a YA mafia tale, this could be the one. Or it could not. It all depends on how rough you like your romance/sex. Edwards has a story but it's not what you think. Oh, and another book following the cliffhanger of an ending. I'm off to the next read. Cheer!

Cheer!

Frankenstein's Army
*A Gory, Horror Movie Review
I saw this movie years ago, but I'd forgotten about it. So one Saturday, on a whim, I watched it again. Needless to say, this movie is truly horrific. There are more body parts than any bucket of fake blood could throw at a film. And as for the storyline... I have to tell you about Frankenstein's Army.

"What is dead may never die..."
Frankenstein's Army is a nightmare. Figuratively and Literally!
Set during a steampunk era of WWII, it tells - actually shows you a group of Russian soldiers responding to a distress call. Thinking their on a rescue mission, they stumble across a mad, Nazi scientist's lab. Inside an abandoned church are things of nightmares, body parts and machine and madness!
This movie is, if anyone else asked, would tell you that it's the worst 84+minutes ever filmed. That would be incorrect. The worst movie I've ever seen was... well, I've seen many. This one, to me isn't the worst. Now that theme song was horrid. LOL Over and over, the same musical chant. Propaganda? Maybe but wow...
So, this is what I say about Frankenstein's Army: If you're looking for nightmares, this is your movie. There is no grand story and the acting isn't all that great, but the point is to bring horror to life. This movie, with it's fake body parts and blood spatter that sets you in the mind of playing video games, Frankenstein's Army is it. It's simple entertainment, nothing more. But then again, that's what I look for on a Saturday evening.
I'm off to the next review. Cheers!

Eloise
*A Horror Movie Review
Haunted movies can sometimes be the best! Some movies give you a rundown of nothing but the now in the haunt. Others give you a backstory, sharing why the haunt even took place. Eloise, a movie about a haunted asylum, or the remains of one, gives you both. You know are given everything, bringing you - the viewer - full circle.

In Eloise, you're given a guy who is set to inherit 1.2 million dollars, before taxes. He's thrilled, even though he has to prove there are no other family members to stake claim on his fortune. He's given a mission, one that sends him to a place none have been known to return from. With the help of a few friends, he sets off to gain the proof he needs to become a millionaire!
The reasoning behind it all is a bit strange. Why would the beneficiary need to seek out proof that he's the only surviving relative for an inheritance? Isn't that something the attorney should have already known? I say all of that shoudl have been previously verified, making this movie moot, making Eloise insane and nonesense.
What I found upsetting with this movie was the fact that it didn't end the way I thought it should. There's a very important piece to this movie, that I understood, watching and thinking: This is going to be pretty decent; I like this. But I was left with confusion instead. Splendid confusion but confusion nonetheless. I couldn't figure one bit out, for the life of me! Unless the ghosts simply deemed it not to be.
Anyway, I can't say more than that because it would surely give away SPOILERS. I don't do SPOILERS. Sorry, but I think you'll sorta enjoy this one. It's an okay movie. Not gory, spooky but slightly twisting. I'm moving on to the next read. Cheers!
