What is dropshipping?

Dropshipping is a form of E-commerce where the seller doesn’t need to stock the goods they sell.

You make money by providing a store and selling products from a third-party supplier. When a customer purchases something, the store orders the product from the supplier, and the supplier delivers the product to the customer.

What kind of online business is dropshipping?

Doug Cunnington recently interviewed Larry Ludwig.

Larry started a site called Investor Junkie in 2009. Less than nine years later, he sold it for $6 million

Along the way, Larry monetized entirely with affiliate marketing, making his site a great addition to my list of affiliate marketing website examples.

BerryCast is an app that lets you record your screen, camera, and audio at the same time, so you can create online videos that match in-person explanations

Check out this article from Vice: People Are Buying Digital Clothes Because That’s a Thing Now

Digital fashion makes everything traditional fashion does—shirts, dresses, pants, hats, shoes, and accessories—but none of it is tangible. Instead, customers “wear” digital clothing through augmented reality and digitally altered photos.

Mentioned in the article is DressX, a digital clothing marketplace. Last I checked, the highest priced item on there was this Avatar inspired dress-type thing for $1400 🤷‍♂️

Also mentioned is 3D artist Stephy Fung…

Fung, who’s based in London, was commissioned to create the 3D environments—things like texturing, camera animation, and lighting—for a digital fashion campaign.

I couldn’t find info on the revenue split DressX offers designers, so it’s unclear how much money you can make designing and selling digital clothes on there. But DressX recently raised $3.3 million and they’re encouraging 3D designers, fashion designers and fashion brands to get in touch for collaborations.

A lone developer (Uku Täht) started building it in December 2018, and brought on a marketing-focused co-founder (Marko Saric) in March 2020.

How to get 450k followers on Twitter

Aside from posting every day for 3 years, this is how Dan Held did it:

Use Twitter’s advanced search function to find the most popular tweets from popular accountsTake these popular tweets and remix them or do an iteration on them.Another method: quote the tweet and tag the account.
The same approach applies to reels on Instagram and videos on Tik Tok. It’s the same concept as the mental kaleidoscope – there are no new ideas, just an opportunity to make new connections from existing ones.

It’s called Braintrust

Mentioned in a recent Economist article about the future of crypto:

Web3 applications are wresting market share from centralised incumbents. Braintrust, a web3 talent marketplace that incentivises participants with tokens, works with employers including Deloitte, nasa, Nike and Porsche. And it is gaining ground on public competitors such as Upwork.

$50,000 in 1 week on AppSumo

Remember that popular Nichesss app on AppSumo?

Turns out it was created by one guy: Malcolm Tyson. He’s from the USA but seems to be based in Rio de Janeiro

Malcolm recently shared on YouTube that Nichesss only had “a couple hundred users” before he listed it on AppSumo. Then it took off, pulling in about $50,000 in revenue in the first week.

Worth noting though that AppSumo takes a hefty 30% cut of that revenue. And they take an even heftier 70% cut of “Select” deals listed on their marketplace

If you’re considering listing a product on AppSumo yourself, definitely give this AMA a read: Ruttl generated over $40k Revenue in just 5 days!

Asking Crypto Millionaires How To Invest $5000

Some of the recommendations:

Helium gets a mention in there, too. I wrote a bit about that back in April

It’s basically a wireless router you can buy, and then give other people access to. You earn cryptocurrency as you share the access.

In April I linked to this device in Austin, Texas and noted that it had earned about $4885 in 30 days. Checking it again, it looks like it only earns about $10/day now

That’s likely due to lots more nearby hotspots going online in recent months.

Removaly is a service that finds and removes your personal data from the internet.

Bootstrappers has the story of how the business launched back in June and earned $20,000 in the first 3 months with an 85% profit margin

Amazing nugget in there about the two co-founders:

Fun fact: Kyle and John have never actually met in person before. They just had their first Zoom call ever last week to work on a pitch. “We handle everything via Slack and it’s working out great,” Kyle says.

Also from that Removaly article:

While Removaly is bootstrapped, its competitors aren’t. Their biggest competitor, Delete Me, has raised around $6.5 million.

That reminded me of a recent tweet by Justin Jackson, founder of a $1 million ARR podcast hosting & analytics company…

Libsyn has about 12.05% of the paid podcast hosting market.
ConvertKit has 0.34% of the email newsletter market.

Libsyn’s ARR is $25 million.
ConvertKit’s ARR is $29 million!

The market you’re in determines most of your growth potential.

Removaly is in the data privacy market, which only seems to be growing

Meaning they can have much bigger competitors and still do very well for themselves.

Logan Paul’s NFT Fail

Back in August, Logan Paul tweeted that he’d just paid $623,000 for an NFT.

Apparently it’s now worth only about $4000, a loss of more than 99%

Speaking of NFTs, Packy McCormick makes a strong case for why we should view them as a new and improved kind of social network…

NFTs are part of the Great Online Game, and as such, the rules and opportunities are always evolving and expanding. Powerful things happen when you combine money, status, and community.

As always, I’m the first to admit that all of this sounds crazy. NFTs feel more like a fad than like a new form of social network. But thankfully Eugene Wei gave us a framework for evaluating the strength of social networks, and NFTs do shockingly well against it.

24-year-old earned $500k+ on Fiverr

That’s Georgia Austin, check her Fiverr profile here

She started out as a freelance copywriter on Fiverr in March 2020. She started earning about $2000/month on there, quit for a while, then started up again last January.

That’s when her business exploded, and she pulled in $21,000 in March alone.

Georgia has since developed her business into a content agency. In an interview earlier this week she shared that she earned $67,000 last month – after Fiverr took their 20% cut – and is on pace to crack $500,000 in revenue for the year

Dig deeper into Georgia’s story and you’ll find that her remarkable results were largely due to remarkable efforts: she was apparently working 14-hour days for 3 months straight earlier this year.
