EMC – Shared Workspace and Franchising – Felena Hanson – Hera Hub

Entrepreneur Master Class

Starting a business can be a lonely place. Especially if you don’t have the full support of your family and friends. Going from a career where you have office space provided along with a built in team and all the items needed to do your daily tasks including phones, copiers, desks and more can be overwhelming and break the budget you might not have as a startup. So how do you get those things without maxing out your credit cards?

Enter Felena Hanson, founder of Hera Hub. She saw a need for a welcoming space for women entrepreneurs who need flexible space outside their homes to conduct business. A space that not only fills a physical need for a desk and space but also meets the intellectual and business needs of a startup. Being surrounded by like-minded women who want to prosper and grow can make the difference between success and failure.

With the success of the first two locations, Felena realized she was on to something. Felena will share with us how she made the leap into franchising. Both the pitfalls and the successes. She will also share with us what co-working is, how it makes an impact and how you can get started creating your own co-working space.

Join us on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 5 PM Eastern/2 PM Pacific/22 GMT on the All Business Radio Network. If you can’t catch us live, tune in on iTunes and Stitcher to listen when you want and as often as you want.

Felena is a long-time entrepreneur and marketing maven.  Her latest venture, Hera Hub, is a spa-inspired shared workspace for female entrepreneurs. This as-needed, flexible work and meeting space provides a productive environment for women who primarily work from home.  Hera Hub members have access to a professional space to meet with clients and to connect and collaborate with like-minded business owners, thus giving them the support they need to be prosperous.  Cost-effective monthly membership options are suited for freelancers, independent consultants, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and authors.

Hera Hub is much more than just a shared workspace; it’s a community of like-minded entrepreneurial women who find the additional resources, such as special classes, workshops, and one-on-one support essential for their business growth.

After building three successful locations in San Diego County, her next goal is to support over 20,000 women in the launch and growth of their business via 200 Hera Hub locations over the next 5 years.  She is expanding via a franchise model, thus is seeking well-connected women who might be interested in learning more about how they can launch a Hera Hub for their community.

Felena is passionate about education, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of San Diego and her MBA from California State University Dominguez Hills.  She taught Marketing and Entrepreneurship at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and at California State University Dominguez Hills for the MBA online program for eight years.

Felena has been nominated for numerous small business awards and was  rewarded for her community efforts by winning the 2012 “Women Business Owner of the Year” award and the 2014 “Women Advocate of the Year” award from the San Diego chapter of the National Organization of Women Business Owners.  In 2014 she also won the “Small Business Champion of the Year” award from the San Diego Small Business Administration.

How to Get People to Know About Your Product, Service or Project and Make Them Want It.

Entrepreneur Master Class

As entrepreneurs we are great with creating products, services and projects yet sometimes we are surprised when we don’t get the numbers of clients we want buying those same creations of ours. Marketing gets expensive and for startups often outside the budget. So what do you do? How do you promote your offerings in a way that gets people to realize they wanted what you have to offer all along?

We are not talking about manipulation. We are talking about targeted promotion that is strategic. The ALS ice bucket challenge is the latest great example of promotion success. I believe beyond their wildest expectations. They thought outside the box, or in this case outside the bucket, and have raised over $50 million dollars for ALS research over the previous year’s $80,000.

Today’s guest is a master of promotions for your business. We are going to discuss what it takes to create, design and implement projects and products and how to run a public relations campaign and build the necessary following for a project launch.

Join us at 5pm Eastern on August 27, 2014 with my guest JW Najarian on the All Business Radio Network. Catch replays on Stitcher and iTunes.

Working as an director of operations for an international leading manufacturer firm of spa parts.

Being on the board of a successful network marketing company where he helped coordinate one of the largest one day food giveaways in the nation.

Becoming a commercial real estate loan officer and starting a very popular commercial real estate marketing website, growing popular online magazine where he has interviewed over 200 celebrities, bestselling authors, world economists and thought leaders.

Leadership Lessons from the 1st Woman graduate of West Point – Col. Debra Lewis, Ret.

Entrepreneur Master Class with Laura Steward Atchison Lessons Learned in the Trenches

Entrepreneur Master Class with Laura Steward Atchison Lessons Learned in the Trenches

July 4th in America, for me, and many others, is a time to reflect on the many freedoms we have been privileged to enjoy. Those privileges did not and do not come without a price. One of those prices is met every day by those who serve in our military. Putting their lives in harm’s way to protect our freedoms.

My dad served in the Army during the Korean War. Right up until the day he died his time of service to our country was the proudest moment of his life. The lessons he learned about leadership, success, communication and moving forward to achieve goals served him well in his post-Army career.

My guest today was in the first graduating class of women at West Point. She not only survived the hazing and outright hostility from the male cadets and staff that felt a woman should not be there she thrived and went on to get graduate degrees from Harvard University and a Bronze Star before retiring after 30 years in the Army as a Colonel.

On July 2, 2014 show Debra and I will talk about the personal lessons that led her to the success she has today, how what she learned at West Point can be learned by anyone in business and what her definition of success is. Join us at 5pm Eastern/2 pm Pacific with my guest, Col. Debra Lewis. Replays available on Stitcher and iTunes.

Debra Lewis photo

Deb Lewis brings numerous unique and varied experiences from her trail-blazing 34 year military career to the Infinite-Win Institute, where she offers rich lessons in a variety of areas including leadership, organizational behavior, communications and project management. During her remarkable military career, Deb led three Brigade/Battalion-level commands, including a $3 billion reconstruction program in Baghdad and Al Anbar Provinces during combat in Iraq; the Seattle District, where she oversaw 850 employees responsible for constructing, operating, and regulating military and civil works projects; and the Philadelphia District where she led 500 employees responsible for the construction, operation and regulation of military and civil works projects.

Col. Deb also held numerous other key command and staff positions including the Inspector General for Washington State, as the confidential advisor to The Adjutant General, Washington National Guard; Senior Engineer Requirements Officer, Joint Staff, Antiterrorism/Force Protection (J-34), supporting the Joint Chief of Staff Chairman’s responsibilities before and after 9/11; co-chair of 220+ member worldwide team that produced Department of Defense facility protection standards; Company Commander, Fort Bragg during Grenada; Engineer Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer; Chief, Military Engineering Division, US Army Pacific Command (USARPAC) – responsible for treaty nations and US territories throughout the Asia-Pacific region; and Staff Officer, Congressional Activities Division for the Chief of Staff of the Army.

Today, Deb continues to develop successful approaches to address such contemporary issues as: Why treating others with dignity and respect matters; Simple rules for more effective writing at work; Antiterrorism/force protection (AT/FP) security engineering considerations; Creating and implementing new policies; Dealing with adversity; Leading and thriving in a rapidly changing and increasingly uncertain environment; Women in the military; Women in combat; Enabling women to earn their fair share of executive level positions; Optimizing individual and organizational potential; Helping others pay attention to what REALLY helps; and Rethinking team diversity.
