049: Miriam McGuirk – From a Life on Hold to a Life of Healing and Writing

My guest today had her life changed in an instant and could no longer work or pretty much even take care of herself. Six months into a new marriage she had to stop working and try to get her health back after a diagnosis of M.E. and Fibromyalgia left her virtually bedridden. Fast forward several years. Healing unfolds with a move from the U.K. to Turkey and all that an ancient way of living in a land filled with mystery and simplicity can only do.

The lessons learned include: setting boundaries, embracing quiet, eating for healing, writing life and letting go. Join me as I interview Miriam McGuirk about her journey, how we can all have our own healing and her wonderful book, Shattered Dreams & Scorpions at Midnight.

Miriam McGuirk headshot Miriam McGuirk’s career in the restaurant, hospitality, and health and fitness service industry ended abruptly with the diagnosis of M.E eighteen years ago. Miriam took the chance to build a new life spending up to 5 months of the year in the South West mountains of Turkey. In this healing, peaceful environment, she found her niche – becoming an author. She is living her dream of writing with a lot of heart and passion now in partnership and with great support by mPowr Publishing, Miriam is looking forward to embracing the journey that lies ahead with two more books to follow in this series.  www.talesfromturkey.com

048: Jason Webb – How to Protect Your IP

Intellectual property is valuable but how do you protect yours? How do you know if you should protect it or skip it? Can you do it yourself? What is the difference between a trademark, a patent and a copyright? Does your copyright cover you all over the world? Is a copyright implied when you post on social media? What happens if someone violates your IP? How do you license your IP? Do you register your patent, trademark or copyright in your name or your business name?

Know the answers to those questions? If you don’t, or even if you think you do, listen in as IP attorney Jason Webb answers those questions and more.

047: Pat Draper – CHF, Triathlons and Learning How to Breath

I fist met Patricia (Pat) Draper at the cardiac catheterization lab at Indian River Medical Center. She was the ARNP in charge and my mom, and later my husband at the time, had to undergo a few heart procedures. Little did I know that we would become fast friends and would help save my mom’s life years later.

I wanted to have her on the show because Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a frightening diagnosis and places fear and confusion in the hearts and minds of patients and caregivers alike. Yet it does not have to. With a few simple strategies in place, CHF patients can live a long and good life and so can their caregivers.

Along the way I learned that Pat began running triathlons at 53 and was winning her age group, or coming close, pretty soon after she started training.

How does she balance a high-pressure career running the CHF clinic at the hospital and working at the cardiac cath lab? What has she learned from accepting the fears participating in triathlons and ironman competitions? What can you learn from listening? I know I learn a lot every time we get together. Not just about healthcare but also about letting go perfection and striving for “best”

Take a listen and share what stands out for you on Twitter @TheLauraSteward

045: Sue Graves – Healing Lives One Curious Moment After Another

Are you connected with what is happening in your internal vs external world? Want to learn how to heal your life? Wonder how come you cannot seem to get well or the same patterns keep repeating themselves. Tried it all?

My guest today has traveled the world and has lived a life filled with curiosity. She quickly realized how each step on her journey added a new tool in her toolbox that enables her to help those in need of healing. From a career as an RN to a 30 year career as a complementary and alternative healer, my guest believes being aware of the inner you allows transformation to happen and healing to begin. Learn how curiosity led my guest to an amazing life that I believe saved mine a few times over when I was unable to find out what was wrong and I was told, “you are sick because you are depressed because you are not with a man.”

Sue Graves headshot  Sue is a Holistic Nurse Clinician with more than 30 years experience in the study and use of complementary therapies. Prior to her work in the alternative fields, she taught nursing at several colleges. She has done clinical research, worked in several hospital settings, lectured and trained Doctors, globally, in the use of complementary therapies.

She is a certified Trainer and Practitioner of Meridian Stress Assessment and uses the technology in her practice. This specialized protocol involves a non-invasive computerized system taking impedance measurements on acupuncture points. These tests determine where the body may be out-of-balance, or indicate food or environmental sensitivities. She then uses homeopathics, nutritional supplements, herbs and lifestyle modification, to restore balance and achieve optimal health.

She started her life-long passion for other cultures and their healing modalities when she was sent around the world by a local youth organization at the age of 19. Sent to share American ideas, she found herself learning more than she had anticipated. She visited leprosy clinics in India, crossed Check-Point Charlie in Berlin and met monks at temples in Japan. On this trip, she saw alternative therapies in action for the first time, which sparked her desire to build a career in Western and Alternative Medicine. In 1999, Sue was asked to present a case study to The White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Therapies.

She is a founding member of the Trauma Imaging Foundation, a non-profit multi-specialty Physician group dedicated to the accurate diagnosis and treatment of brain and spinal trauma. She is active in their current research of Advanced Trauma Diagnostics, utilizing novel upright MRI protocols. In addition, she has been a Representative for a UN Non-Governmental Org where she has participated and worked on projects around the world.

Sue has a practice in Fairfield, Connecticut and sees patients by private appointment in her office or via remote consult. https://www.facebook.com/suegravesandco/  203-254-2184

043: RUKE – Design Your Destiny

How do you turn your vision of entrepreneurial success into reality while making sure your family life doesn’t fall apart? Is it even possible? You can have it all. At least that is what we keep being told but is that really possible? According to my guest, Daniel T. Ruke, more commonly known as RUKE, it is but it requires planning, communication and clarity on what you want to achieve, what it will take to achieve it and agreement on specifics that may have to be alternated by everyone directly or indirectly involved.

Taking lessons he learned building multiple successful brands of his own and helping other corporations like Disney, Marvel and Chico’s make their brands even more effective, Ruke has developed an online program that includes an Entrepreneurial Commitment Contract.  He is graciously giving it free to all of you, my listeners!

On this episode of It’s All About the Questions, Ruke shares four questions you can ask yourself and one you can ask others to help you unlock and design your destiny so that you and your brand is not only seen but felt.

Ruke headshot In 1993, RUKE opened RUKE Illustrations (www.RUKE.com). He focused on themed and branded spaces. When most artists didn’t want to touch a computer, RUKE embraced it. Not only was he able to do hand painted murals, but the use of technology enabled him to contribute to the overall design and theme of entertainment venues and destinations.

Understanding that “Brands are felt, not read”, RUKE expanded his illustration company in 1998 into blink, a non-traditional creative agency (www.blinkStyle.com). The atmosphere offers employees the artistic freedom to create revolutionary work while making clients successful.

RUKE has always looked for the client’s uniqueness in branding, product image and sales cycles, all of which separate the client from their competition. This was a major shift in his career. He was now able to represent projects and companies from an advertising and marketing capacity, as well as contribute to the creative and the development of their products and services. His drive and passion keep blink on the forefront of art and communication.

In 2010, RUKE combined all of his experience and talents to create Game Nation, the world’s first Experiential Video Game Theme Park and Resort (www.GameNationParks.com). With total immersion and complete interactivity, Game Nation merges video game mechanics with physical themed attractions, creating some of the most unreal experiences gamers have ever had.

RUKE prides himself in creating cultural brands. Being a keen observer of not only audience demographics, but more importantly, their psychographics and socialgraphics, he connects brands to their customers’ world. He’s had the honor of contributing to the success of hundreds of Brands, Products and Companies.  www.blinklessons.com

042: Sharón Lynn Wyeth – Know the Name; Know the Person

I had always heard names had power and there are a lot of experts out there who use numerology, astrology and many other “ologies” to tell us who we are. I have explored many to understand who I am and why I am here on this planet. When I got divorced I wondered, “is Laura Steward the same person as Laura Atchison?” I wondered, what will happen when I go back to my maiden name? Will anyone even notice?

Have you ever noticed how sometimes you get introduced to someone and you say to yourself, “that name fits them, or it doesn’t fit them?” Or met someone and felt you must get away or you don’t trust them and have no idea why?

My guest today is the Founder of Neimology ® Science and she is going to share with us how your name tells the world all about you and how you can use that to have an incredible life. And she also shares with us letter patterns in people’s names that can indicate we are not safe around them. PLUS six questions to get any conversation going just based on a letter in someone’s name!

Sharón Lynn Wyeth Sharón Lynn Wyeth is recognized internationally as a name expert as she can determine one’s strengths, challenges and the purpose of one’s life by deciphering a person’s name. Sharón created Neimology® Science, the study of the placement of the letters in a name, after 15 years of research followed by 3 years of testing her theories in over 70 countries. She wanted to see if her methodology held true in different languages, and indeed it does. The greatest gift that came from developing Neimology® Science was being able to see all people as One, as our basic desires remain the same regardless of where we live or what culture we are experiencing. Today she assists the HR departments of different businesses in narrowing down the candidates to be interviewed, assists lawyers in how to present cases to judges, and couples and families on how to better communicate with each other. She also creates names for new business and new products. Sharón is a frequent guest on both radio and television  Find her at www.KnowTheName.com and get her books, Know The Name; Know the Person, Decoding Letter to Reveal Secrets Hidden in Names and Know the Name; Know the Spirit Discover Your Contract with God in Your Name.

041: Chris Whaley – The Masked Saint

How does one go from not being able to walk well to a pro-wrestler to Pastor? Well if you are my guest today you just ask yourself a few questions and take the next steps on faith!

Chris Whaley performed as The Saint on the pro wrestling stage while going to seminary to become a Baptist minister. He learned many lessons along the way including that” as long as you fall forward you are closer to your goals.” LOVE that!

His current book, The Masked Saint, is based on his own story and is a major motion picture.

Chris Whaley Chris has been married to his high school sweetheart for 40 years.  He has two daughters:  Alyson and Kacie.  Both girls were high school valedictorians.  Alyson has four children and Kacie has one.

040: Greg Schueler: Questions you SHOULD be Asking Your Web Designer.

WWW. Three letters that signify the one thing that has transformed the way we do business and find resources to change our lives more than anything else in the last few decades. In just one decade we have gone from paying $25,000 or more to design websites to DIY with WordPress and WIX and a web guy on every other corner of the world offering to design your website and get your business found on the web.

Just because you can do it yourself, should you? If you do hire someone, how do you know if they know what they are doing? What questions should you ask, before, during and after to make sure your site is effective?

We look for the FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions) section of a website to get answers others are asking yet my guest and I recommend you look for an SAQ (Should Ask Questions) page. And to get you started on knowing what you SHOULD be asking take a listen to today’s show.

Tweet your questions to @TheLauraSteward and @VegasGreg if you think of a new one or just need an answer to your web question after you listen!

Greg Schueler is the Founder of Say So Marketing and has been involved in internet marketing for over 15 years. Greg built his first website in 1998 and started his first Google Adwords PPC campaign in 2002.

Since then he has built, managed and/or repaired over 1,000 websites and counting. He has primarily specialized in WordPress development and has often times been referred to as the Mad Scientist of WordPress.
