Alabama Hunters Describe Their Encounters With 'THE CREATURE!'

The following account was sent to me by a reader. It describes incidents, detailed by members of a hunting club, with 'the creature' that occurred in Alabama.

"Greg first noticed the smell, which was musky and strong. Then he saw something moving. By the time the shadowy figure ambled to within 15 yards of his tree stand, he'd also heard it.

The Montgomery man wasn't sure what he was seeing, but he knew he didn’t want a closer look. The deer hunter even dismissed the idea of pulling out his flashlight because he didn't want the thing to know where he was. Greg was scared, as frightened as he'd ever been. He'd climbed into his stand that afternoon three years ago, hoping to get a shot at a deer with his bow. He knew he would probably not see anything until the day's last hour. He'd sat in the same area earlier in the season, and the deer didn't start moving until right before dark. What he eventually saw, however, was no deer. "I started smelling something first," he remembers. "It was definitely different, sort of musky. It really stank. Then I saw something come walking down the trail real slow. He was walking upright." The hunter could not see well enough in the approaching dusk to determine what was walking below him, but he could definitely recall its shape, how it smelled, and the peculiar sounds it made. It was dark-colored, about 6 feet tall or more, walked upright, and had legs longer than any bear he'd seen in captivity. Greg also had the sense that the thing was eating something. "It was making these little noises," he continued. "I couldn't hear it until he came within 15 yards -kind of a popping sound, but kind of nasal and muffled." The hunter wanted very much to get down out of the tree and back to his truck, but he dared not move until the thing had moved out of sight. Eventually, it did meander away -three hours after all traces of daylight had vanished. "I was scared. I didn't know what it was," he explained. "I wanted to get out of there. I didn't want .to come down with him still there."

At the base of the tree, knee-high reeds covered the ground like quills from a giant porcupine. He knew he was going to make a lot of noise leaving, but he yearned for the security of his truck's cab. So he climbed down as quietly as possible. As he neared the edge of some open woods, separated from the reeds by a small creek, he heard something approaching slowly from the rear. The footfalls were also in the patch of reeds somewhere behind him. He wasted no time in crossing the creek into the open woods, where he could move quickly and even more quietly. That's when he heard the thing almost directly behind, practically covering the same ground he'd just crossed. Greg then broke into a run.

For three years, he told only one person about that encounter, his father-in-law, and only because his wife's daddy required some kind of explanation of why he'd been forced to wait almost four hours past nightfall for his son-in-law to return to their truck. Otherwise, he says, he would have kept the story to himself. Until 1996, that is, when another member of the same hunting club returned to camp white-faced and trembling. When Greg's friend explained what he'd just been through, the silence was broken. Brian had been hunting with his bow very close to the same area where Greg had seen "the creature." The land is close to where Lowndes and Dallas counties meet, south of U.S. Highway 80. It was an afternoon hunt and he was watching two small bucks feed under his stand. "All of a sudden, deer started snorting and blowing all around me. And the two bucks started running around in circles," said Brian, also from Montgomery. "All the deer were just going crazy, Then they ran off,"

Brian was left second-guessing his decision not to shoot one of the bucks, a 6-pointer when he heard something walking down a ridge toward him. He could not smell anything, as his friend had three years earlier, but whatever it was, the thing was making a popping sound teeth clamping shut, over and over again. "I wish I could describe it better, but what I can say is it was like a popping sound, only more nasal," he said, trying unsatisfactorily to imitate it. "I've never heard anything like it." Brian frequently travels to Florida to hunt wild hogs, and he is familiar with the popping sounds a toothy boar often makes when it's cornered and mad. He's also hunted bears in Canada and in the western United States. Still, the sound he heard that day in Alabama was nothing like he'd encountered during his other travels. It scared him so much that he grabbed his only weapon, an arrow, with his free hand. On the other, he was holding his small flashlight. It was smaller than he'd ever before realized. The creature kept coming closer but stayed just out of sight. Finally, well after dark, it had passed far enough away for the man to feel comfortable coming down the tree. By the time Brian reached the ground, however, the thing began coming again, following him through the woods. He ran, pointing his too-small flashlight in front of him and clutching the arrow with his other fist. But, he never saw the creature.

When he reached the camp house that night, he told of his encounter solemnly, then packed his bags and left -- abandoning his plans for a weekend hunt. The next time he returned, a couple of weeks later, he had a new flashlight. The new one was the size of a horse's leg. "Be careful when you ask him about it," a friend warned, later in the season. "If he thinks you're not serious, he may not tell about it." A month later, a third hunter was almost ready to hang up his gun following a close encounter with "a creature" within a half-mile of the previous incidents. According to Jim Mason, one of the owners of Southern Sportsman Hunting Lodge, a former guest was frightened while hunting a tract adjacent to Brian's and Greg's property, a section now known by other members of their hunting club as "booger bottom."

Mason said the man got out of his stand after dusk and started walking to his rendezvous point to wait for his guide. The road itself was overgrown, and the land flanking it was choked with high grass and young pines. "Something in the bushes growled a real deep, low growl. Three times," Mason said. "That boy from Mississippi was really scared. He said it was too deep-sounding to be a coyote or a dog. And although he pointed his flashlight at it, he couldn't see anything. The brush was too thick."

The man's guide heard the story first.

"Whatever it was, it scared the heck out of him," remembers Troy Anderson of Selma, who served as the man's guide that day. "He said it was too deep a growl to be a dog, more guttural sounding. "He was so scared, he scared me," continued Anderson, adding that the man was pale and shaking when the guide arrived to pick him up that night. The guest declined the opportunity to revisit the site the next morning; even though he saw several does and bucks while hunting there. "I've been guiding for five years, and I've never had anybody refuse to go back there. That's a real hotspot," Anderson said. "But he was through with it. I had to drive him all the way to his stand (on a different parcel) the next morning." Mason said the man took some ribbing at the lodge that night, but he never departed from his story. "He was dead serious. He didn't cut a smile all night, and he wasn't talking very much either.

These are the tales of just three close encounters, all between 1993 and 1996. Other club members, including Greg's father-in-law, have also heard or smelled the creature. Guin, Greg’s father-in-law, was sitting over a green field one evening when a handsome 8-pointer strolled into rifle range. He wasted little time in squeezing the trigger. But what happened next caused him to abandon the deer, at least temporarily. After the shot, Guin heard something roar and begin popping its teeth - no more than 50 or 60 yards in the trees behind the fallen buck. The ruckus was so close that, at first, he thought the deer had somehow uttered the sound. About the time he realized the unlikelihood, the invisible jaws slammed shut again, sending shivers up and down Guin's sweaty spine. He was so shaken by the sounds that he tried, to slither down the ladder to the shooting house without making a sound -with the thought of reaching his parked truck as quickly as he could manage it -- but a bottle of cover scent fell out of his pocket. The bottle, of course, hit every rung on the ladder, revealing his escape. Then the creature sounded again, and Guin almost ran to his truck. He didn't drive up to the field; he went back to camp. Only later, after all the other hunters had returned, they went as a group to collect Guin's deer. The buck was there, but there was no sign of the monster.

Rumors are circulating to the effect that the strange happenings are not limited to that corner of Dallas County. Some hunters even claim to have the answers. At least one explanation has been offered, but Alabama's game officials say it isn't true. A Dallas County venison processor has been credited with saying he's heard that the state released 150 black bears in the vicinity sometime within the past few years. However, according to David Hayden, assistant chief of the Game and Fish Division's wildlife section, that's a popular rumor that simply isn't true. "We don't do that," Hayden said flatly.

While Game and Fish officials will respond to rare reports of bear sightings, and occasionally capture one that has been declared a nuisance or endangered, the animal is usually released within the remote Mobile-Tensaw Delta. That's the only area where bears are known to exist in Alabama, he said. Hayden says his division has received no reports of bears or unidentifiable creatures in Dallas or Lowndes counties in recent years. But he is not surprised to hear of them.

The biologist says people from across Alabama have been reporting strange sightings for several years. They have ranged from wolves and cougars to kangaroos. Even an African lion, once the pet of a Mobile woman, was found wandering the state's lower reaches. Hayden, however, says there are no known populations of wild wolves or kangaroos. The last confirmed sighting of a cougar came in 1965, although the cats can be found in parts of Florida. But there are a few black bears in the Heart of Dixie, not that he's ready to say they're roaming parts of Dallas and Lowndes counties. He's not saying they aren't either. "We do have some bears, but most reports outside the Mobile-Tensaw Delta are not true. Or at least we haven't been able to substantiate them," he said. While bears are considered a protected species in Alabama, one that cannot be harvested legally, the Game and Fish Division is not interested in repopulating the state, he added. Hayden, one of the top biologists on the state's payroll, says a black bear can pop its teeth, but it is not common for them to pursue or attack anything larger than a deer's fawn. They avoid humans. Moreover, bears don't make a habit of walking upright. "She'll eat whatever is available: mice, shrews, moles, grubs and carrion. But they're mostly vegetarians," he said.

As for the musky stench? Hayden says that bears normally don't stink. But he remembers the smell of a particularly large male when he was a graduate student that did have a strong odor. Still, based on the above descriptions of events, Hayden isn't sure about anything. It might be a bear, but the antics are unusual. "It might be possible. Not much surprises me anymore. It's the most likely explanation," he offered. "But I haven't heard reports of a black bear following somebody. If it was, it could've been rabid."

Jack O'Connor, an accomplished outdoor writer for more than three decades, often wrote about bears. He'd hunted them in every corner of the continent. "The average black bear is a shy, timid " (and) eternally wary fellow who seldom weighs much over 200 pounds," O'Connor once penned. "In most areas, he's so shy that he is almost as difficult to see unassisted by dogs as is a mountain lion." O'Connor's description of the mostly nocturnal animal mirrors Hayden's observations. "One whiff of human scent will generally send the black bear off like a scared rabbit, and he'd always rather run than fight," the wizened rifleman once wrote. "But if (a hunter) thinks he is afield in the haunts of a dangerous and mysterious monster, those woods will hold an excitement and magic for him.

No truer statement has ever been issued as far as the members of one Dallas County hunting club are concerned.

The size of their flashlights offers proof."

HUGE BLACK 'PREHISTORIC-LOOKING' BIRD Closely Observed in Lake County, Illinois

A witness contacted me about a sighting of a huge 'prehistoric-looking' bird that literally blocked the sky in front of their car while driving near Round Lake Beach, Illinois (Lake County).
I received the following account:
Dear, Lon. After reading your recent post I wanted to share our encounter with you.

Back in the Summer of 2002 during the late morning to early afternoon, we were driving south on Highway 83 leaving Round Lake Beach, Illinois (Lake County) going towards Grayslake when we were startled by something large and black crossing in front of the car and landing in a small open area of brush, to our left. One wing easily filled the entire view ahead of us.

We saw that one huge black bird had landed next to another one and that they were devouring what looked like a small deer or a large dog. It was just for an instant but they were prehistoric-looking and larger than the local turkey buzzards. We watched the evening news thinking that some large vultures may have escaped the zoo but we saw no mention of any such creatures. We often wondered if anyone else had seen anything like these large black birds in northern Illinois.

BIGFOOT DUO Reported at Nelson Lake, Wisconsin

I received this email from a young man in Sawyer County, Wisconsin who claims to have witnessed two Bigfoot, an adult, and a juvenile, while fishing.

"Sir - I am writing about a sighting I had on June 26, 2011, around 8:00 pm at Nelson Lake, Wisconsin. I was fishing from my canoe about 30 yards. from the shore near Tanning Point when I noticed a whimpering sound. It was coming from the woods at the shoreline. It sounded like a dog whining, so I stopped what I was doing to watch the woods to see if anything appeared. After a few seconds, I saw a child scampering from the woods. I didn't get a very good look but the child had very thick brown hair all over its body and was very small (human toddler size). It quickly showed itself and then bolted back towards the woods.

I sat there in shock. But within seconds I heard three distinct and angry 'grunts'. I then saw a large ape-like head rise above the lower tree boughs. The eyes were barely visible but I could tell that it didn't want me there. That was enough for me so I started to paddle towards the north shore when all of a sudden I heard a loud 'plop' and then 'splash' from behind the boat. I turned around in time to see another rock heading in my direction. It was many yds. from me but I got the message.

I was shaking from the time I witnessed these beasts up until a few hours later when I was in my home office pondering what I had seen. I think it may have been Bigfoot. I Googled 'Wisconsin Bigfoot' and your blog came up. Was this a Bigfoot? I'm not an outdoorsman though I enjoy canoeing and fishing. Have there been other sightings in this area? Is there a danger? I appreciate your help.

Seeley, Wisconsin Bigfoot Buzz

"According to the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department, two deputies responded to an alleged Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, sighting on Highway 63 just south of Seeley on the evening of Jan. 3.

Since then the sighting has been the topic of conversation in that small community, with multiple reported sightings being called into the Sawyer County Record office since.

Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle confirmed that two deputies responded to the call, only to find footprints and hair at the site. But “unless Bigfoot was wearing boots,” Zeigle laughed, “I think it’s pretty much a prank.

“A lady called in and said ‘You probably think I’m nuts, but I’m not … I have not been drinking.’ She reported seeing a Bigfoot or someone dressed in an ape suit on Highway 63 near Stark Road,” Zeigle said. “We sent a couple officers up there and what they found was a set of foottracks going from the road to the timberline and back to the road and they also found a long, black hair.” He affirmed that there have been no sightings since then.

But the story takes a curious turn from there.

According to another reported sighting obtained by the Record, a Wausau man, who wishes to remain unnamed, and his nephew were snowmobiling on a trail just southwest of Seeley when they saw something unusual cross the trail.

“I don’t know what I saw, but my nephew and I both saw something very real,” he said. “We only saw legs from the hips down as it was caught in the headlights of our snowmobiles. It stepped out of the woods, walking upright, and stepped across the trail right in front of my nephew who was ahead of me 20-30 feet.

“The legs were long (and) covered with long dark hair,” he continued. “My first thought was it was a drunk walking through the woods after leaving the Sawmill Saloon, but that makes no sense. We were quite a ways west of the Sawmill and there is no trail or crossing anywhere near there for someone to be walking.”

After gunning their snowmobiles past, the two turned around to explore the area and find tracks. However, they had not marked the spot with a landmark and were unsuccessful at finding any sign when they returned to the area.

“We saw these legs for only a very brief moment, but again, it was very real,” he added.

Following up on the sighting, several possible theories have been revealed.

Cindy Ferraro of the Sawmill Saloon said that one potential explanation is that something was roused when the managed portion of the Uhrenholdt Memorial Forest south of Highway OO was cleaned up a few months ago. She said a friend who lives in the Seeley Hills area has reported unusual behavior coming from her dogs lately; they seem to be agitated by something out of the ordinary."

Experiencer's Multi-Year BRIGHTLY COLORED, STATIC-LIKE SILHOUETTE Encounters

A reader describes her multi-year encounters with brightly colored, static-like silhouette beings that would stand outside her bedroom and watch her. Are these similar to shadow people?

I received the following account from a reader:

"Hello, I read your blog every day and am a fan on Facebook so I finally decided to email an experience to you.

Over around seven years while I was growing up two figures regularly appeared to me at night (sometimes each night of the week, sometimes only appearing once or twice a week). They would appear just outside and just inside my bedroom doorway, and they never tried to move any closer into the room. They would appear while I lay in bed. One figure appeared to be male, the other female. They were perfect silhouettes with no features to speak of. However, they appeared to be made of something similar to static on a television. They were brightly coloured, as if made of tiny blue-pink and green dots of static. Sometimes they stood still and watched me and others they moved quickly and fluently around the area they were standing in. Although a small part of me told myself I should probably feel frightened, I never felt threatened by the figures and I never fell asleep as calmly as when they had appeared. Sometimes I would lose focus of them for a second but they would always reappear a few seconds later. As I grew up I stopped seeing the figures (Probably at about age 11.)

They often appeared to notice me, and in all honesty, I got the constant feeling that they were there for me (partly because no one else noticed them, partly because they appeared to me so regularly.)

I've had many different experiences with the paranormal since then, having grown up with a passionate interest, but I have never seen anything remotely like these figures since they stopped appearing to me, and I have never really come across anything that could explain it, either.

While it may sound like the overactive imagination of a child, the fact that I saw them regularly over six years and the fact that some of my very earliest memories are of these figures (I have earlier memories of these figures than I do of my family) leads me to believe otherwise.

Psychic Mother Could Shapeshift Into LARGE BLACK FELINE!

A Minneapolis woman relates her memories of her psychic mother who was part of a Wiccan coven. Her mother apparently could shapeshift into a large black feline!

I received the following account from a reader:

"Hey, Lon - I just read a few of your articles on Skinwalkers.

My mom died in May of 1988 but she talked many times about a certain occurrence that happened to her when I was 7, which would have been in 1970. In all the places we lived we had ghosts or whatever you choose to call them, and when you grow up in that - it's just normal - as odd as that might sound.

Anyhow, my mom was VERY psychic and about this time (1970) she started hanging out with many witches and criminals. Not that the 2 are related. Just to let you know, my brother and I had a very interesting childhood. My brother is 3-4 years older than me - depending on who had the last birthday and he and my mom were very close. Well, she and my brother Terry would play a lot of mental telepathy games in his room in the basement. If she was around, she would just focus on him and they'd go down to his room and do these mind games. Like what color, number, or whatever am I thinking of. Stuff like that.

Anyhow, we lived in South Minneapolis at the time and it was sometime in 1970. They had been downstairs doing their thing and they came up freaked out. What my mom told me was that when they were doing their mind thing it felt like she was being pulled backwards out of her body. It was like her spirit was being drawn towards the basement window. It was one of those really small narrow ones that no one could ever fit through. She had been facing Terry and as she was being pulled, she could see Terry's (my brother) face. She said he looked terrified as he was looking at her.

She told me she fought with everything she had to get back into her body and was finally able to do so. When she got back into her body she asked Terry what happened. He told her that she started turning into a giant black cat. They both came up and told me what happened and then again many times over the years. The story never changed and I never doubted it. One thing I should say also is she always said she wanted to be a big black cat. Like a black panther. I don't know how it happened but I believe it to this day.

Then around 1979 or 1980 my mom and I lived in Northeast Minneapolis and one of her friends came over. This was a man called Moe. I don't know if that was his real name or a nickname but I remember he was super cool and belonged to Wicca and was something of a high priest. My mom always said they were the good witches and he performed exorcisms. She had a couple friends who did but Moe was the nicest. Well, she was in the tub when Moe came over so we were sitting at the kitchen table. I have ALWAYS been afraid of werewolves so thought I'd ask him about them - knowing that he would tell me they were just made up. That wasn't what he told me. He paused and said, "I can't tell you if there are or aren't werewolves. I have read about werewolves being in the hills in Russia but I don't know. I DO know a woman who can turn herself into a cat though."

Well, the cat thing I really wasn't thinking too much about because I was now concentrating on the werewolf issue. My mom and I were not close and it's weird because we never had a 'normal' family and didn't talk about what most people do I guess but later it dawned on me that (what I have come to believe at any rate) is that that was Moe's way of telling me about my mom. Perhaps she was finally able to learn and harness the energy it took to make the change. She wasn't home much but spent a great deal of time with her witch friends so who knows? Anyhow, I value Moe's input and I know from Terry and my mom both that at least that one time she was indeed turning from a human physical form into a giant cat. How this is possible I cannot fathom or comprehend but I believe it because the story from 1970 to when she died in 1988 NEVER ONCE CHANGED.

SCALEY, BEAR-LIKE, PART ALLIGATOR CHIMERA Encountered at Arizona Pond!

A couple in Arizona are night fishing in a pond when they encounter, what they describe as, a 'scaley, bear-like, part alligator' creature. What did they encounter?

I received the following account from a reader:

"Hi, Lon - I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts? My fiancee and I live in the mountains of Arizona and we went night fishing at an old fish hatchery, now privately owned ponds, tonight. We were there for a couple of minutes when we started to hear something rustling around the pond next to us. At first, I thought it was just an elk (we'd been there a couple of days before and there were tracks in the mud on the shore) but my fiancee was worried that it might be something else so he made a fire to try and scare it away. After a while, the rustling stopped and we relaxed.

Not long later we heard a huge splash from the other pond. We thought that maybe a mountain lion or bear had jumped in trying to get some of the fish, as unrealistic as that seemed, but we never heard any more splashing and it was very unlikely that there was a fish the size of a full grown man in the pond next door. We didn't hear anything after that for a long time until suddenly there was another huge splash in our pond, but I couldn't see where it had come from or what had made it.

I was starting to get creeped out and the fire was dying out and I wanted to leave but my fiancee wanted to stay and fish some more. We could hear some more rustling in the reeds near us and suddenly my fiancee just started packing things up and dousing the fire and told me that he was ready to leave. We had left the car up by the highway by the gate and walked all the way down the dirt road, through the meadow, and past some other ponds to get to where we were fishing...so we still had a way to walk before we would hop the fence and be back at the car. Every couple of seconds he would look behind us and then start walking faster. He told me that he thought there was a bear by the ponds and kept looking back and getting more panicked and walking faster. I was too chicken to look back at what he was obviously looking for.

By the time we were almost back to the car, I was practically jogging to keep up with him and he was making comments like, "Once we get over the gate we'll be fine." When we finally did make it to the car he kept looking back over the meadow and acting antsy until we were driving back home. When I asked him if he'd seen the bear he replied "I don't know what that was, but it wasn't a bear." He proceeded to tell me about the animal he'd seen and that had looked right at him while he stood on the edge of the pond. He described it as being as big as a bear, but looking like a half dog, half crocodile mutation of some kind. He said it looked scaly and that they had looked at each other right at the same moment and the creature had almost all black eyes. He also said that he felt like he was being studied by it, like it was very very smart.

We were a little ways away from the ponds when he started looking back and walking faster. He said that first, he saw the thing sitting on the top of the hill by the pond looking at us. This freaked him out so he started walking faster. When he looked again it had come down the hill and was still looking at us, making him walk even faster and tell me the bogus lie about the bear (he knew very well what a chicken I am and that I wouldn't look back). When he looked again, it was in the field, still far away, but still following us. The next time he said it was on the road behind us, walking like a cat does when stalking its prey. This was when he started making comments about getting over the gate and freaking out over the lantern because it was starting to dim (he's a scout and I guess the theory is that if you have light with you it will keep most everything away).

I've never seen him so freaked out before and I didn't know if I should think that he was just seeing things? But he swears up and down that he saw whatever it was. So we came home and looked up "giant alligator dog sightings" and came across the Doyarchu. The descriptions of it sound amazingly accurate to what he told me on the drive home and we kinda freaked ourselves out wondering if the second splash in our pond would have been its mate. I do believe that he saw something tonight, he's also sworn that he's never going back out there again.

After my parents laughed at us they suggested that we go back in the morning and look for tracks, but he flat out told me no! I know that this probably sounds like just a crazy story, Doyarchus are supposedly mythical creatures from Ireland, as I understand it. I just don't know how to explain what he swears he saw and felt like was going to eat us." Y

Inuit Witness Describes HUMAN-FACED, RED-EYED MOTHMAN Encounter in Alaska Village

An Inuit villager contacts me about his encounter with a 7 to 8-foot-tall, red-eyed Mothman while walking near his father's home. It had a human-like face.

I received the following account:

"My encounter with this thing most people call the Mothman was when I was nine years old and I remember it clearly like it was yesterday. I was walking back from my uncle's place in our village near Seward, Alaska. I was walking on the sidewalk and I saw this man standing on top of my father's house close to the edge facing west. He was all black he looked like a man. It stood about 7 or 8 feet tall. I shouted out at him but he acted like he didn't hear me. I said, "Hey you. Who are you?" I kept trying to get his attention. It was like I wasn't there. But when I said "Hey, you're standing on my house. Who are you?" It looked at me for a few seconds.

The face seemed like a normal person's face until it slowly opened its eyelids and I saw a red glow, like his eyes were glowing not a red light but a glow. I froze and just stared at him. He stood there looking at me for 9 or 10 seconds and looked away and jumped really high and far. I'd say he jumped about 40 feet high and 70 to 80 feet away and as soon as he seemed to fall down, very long and large wings came out of his back and flapped twice. Just in those two flaps he traveled about 100 feet and flew right over the high school.

Since that day I never spoke to anyone about it cause I thought I saw the devil. I freaked out so bad I looked out for it every day to make sure it wasn't around. That is my first encounter with that thing. I have had one more many years later. Its body was like a man's and his face was like a man's too, but his eyes were what made it so scary and weird. Those wings are very long and large. His whole body was all black, like not skin but blackness was covering him, I can't explain. I'm not the only one in my village who saw this thing but after that, there have been many sightings here and in other villages, even to the point that the thing goes into people's houses while they sleep. That happened to someone I know." - N.H.

(PHOTO/VIDEO) Was YACUMAMA, GIANT AMAZONIAN BOA, Ever Discovered?

Back in July 2010, Greg Warner updated me on his team's Amazon Expedition 2010: In Search of Yacumama. I received the following correspondence. Was the Yacumama found?

"Dear Lon

In November last year, we reported on and supplied photographs of, a giant snake event near the jungle city of Iquitos Peru. The photographs we commissioned showed a trail at least 5 meters wide and now we have located video evidence to support our photos and eyewitness accounts.

The video is in Spanish but we have had our contact in the Amazon supply a full translation.

This is clearly further evidence that the Black Boa, Yacumama, Sachamama, and Minhocao are one and the same animal. All contemporaneous description and photographic evidence points to this conclusion.

As your readers will know, we have been in discussions with selected TV Production companies and Broadcasters to support our return to the Amazon this year for a ground expedition in search of conclusive evidence including DNA to prove that this snake is a species previously unknown to science.

Although we still remain hopeful we received a setback last week when National Geographic International (who took an interest in our project) became concerned about the risks involved in the return expedition. Please see the correspondence below. We will continue to keep you posted on our progress:

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this but we reviewed the materials from Firecracker Films regarding Yacumama. It is an exciting and intriguing story for sure. While we did like the father/son dynamic, NGCI feels that there is a bit of risk associated with a program of this nature. Also, upon further evaluation of our current and future programming, we don't have a strong need for a one-off of this nature at this time. Our primary need is for series.

That being said, we'd be happy to take a look once again when the project is completed.

TRANSLATION OF VIDEO COMMENTARY

After seeing Lucho Llosa's Anaconda movie, panic has - in some way - generalized against this giant snake, and myths grew around this animal, that is why we believe that if the Peruvian movie maker Lucho Llosa had heard the story lived by these persons, he would have to re-write Anaconda and roll a second part.

In the human settlement 24 de Mayo, today's dawn, the dwellers got into a panic when they saw that on the enormous swamp located at the posterior part of the settlement, a huge silhouette of dragged grass and mud was drawn; attributing the event to the Sachamama, although others said that it a was gigantic boa that guarded a small pond of the place.

Presenter- Before the rain fell, was there this here?

Woman- Yes, there was a cocha here

Presenter- A cocha… but was it a cocha that size or…

Woman- All this is water, don’t you see where you are walking?

Presenter- ok, but was there this entire open field?

Man with hat- No, no, there was not… there was not

Woman in white- The neighbors who live near here inform us that they said that there was not; it was just a swamp, water, and grass; that is why they are surprised to see all this today.

Presenter- To get to the sinuous path made by the alleged gigantic boa, we had to walk over the mud, only then we could see what remained from the night before, after heavy rains accompanied by lightning and thunder, according to the version of these persons, they felt small tremor at the time the enormous beast got out of its hiding place, to slide to the nearest river opening a trail of more than 5 meters wide, although it has to be said that nobody, but nobody saw the boa.

Man in green- It started to move like this, circulate until it found a way out over there; and you cannot say that there is a channel over there because everything was plain, as you can see it was plain, all this is a trail that it made, look, it looked like it wanted to get out that way but turned over there, it took all this way, (woman: and it made all this, didn’t it?) it took all this; if you keep walking that way you can see, it remained like this. But before it was not like that.

Presenter- People, you say that before people used to throw their garbage here

Woman- Everything, here. Look, it is all clean. (Woman in white)

Presenter- But you consider that that made the animal furious,

Woman in gray- yes because they were throwing broken glass for it to go away…because here there was a cocha, like a lagoon, which never dried out. And where there is a cocha that never dries it is because there is an animal, it has a mother.

Presenter- Did you feel the same tremor, or earthquake?

Woman in gray- That was at night, we could not see.

Presenter- But, have you felt a tremor or something?

Woman in white- yes the neighbors say

Woman in gray- there are Aguaje trees over there that were moved like this from one side to the other.

Presenter- But you did not get to see the animal, you assume that it was a boa that got out of here?

Woman- Yes.

Presenter- This family lives in front of this swamp and like their neighbors they found themselves surprised with the event and attest that since before they used to feel small tremors that they supposed it caused by this gigantic boa.

Woman in orange- I did not imagine if the animal, the boa was going to get out.

Presenter- But you supposed that an animal was living there?

Woman in orange- Yes, we supposed there was an animal here because we are living here for 4 years, but every time the animal moved we felt like the earth was moving.

Presenter- Ah.. You say then that the earth felt like moving?

Woman in orange- Yes, yes, we felt like the earth was moving.

Presenter- Rain or no rain?

Woman in orange- Yes, rain or no rain. Like an earthquake. Ground moved.

Presenter- All these people were witnesses of an event like this without getting to see the animal for which we had a doubt of the possible existence of a boa that reaches up to 5 meters in width, doubt that took us to consult Pedro Perez, a Biologist, a specialist in ophidian and reptiles; and from a professional point of view answered the questions:

Pedro Perez- (“Herpetologist”) Firstly, it doesn’t, it doesn’t exist a reptile, and in this case, a boa of such magnitude of such width, there can exist a 7-meter boa but in length not in width. Well, normally these types of stories are related to… to… torrential rains that fall over-determined types of soils, soft soils; where it can generate a… a… sliding of these types of soils. So this makes the idea that an animal of this magnitude has passed by, but in reality, it is more related to… to… strong rains, types of soft soils, and sliding more than to an animal very wide that… that does not exist in the Amazonia.

Presenter- Things seemed to be clear but this dweller (woman) has another testimony.

Presenter- So, so, you always thought that there was something here because of a lagoon.

Woman in gray- Yes, young man, because over there, a friend, from his very side another black boa came out leaving a trail around 2 ½ 3 meters more or less, the width of that trail over there…,

Presenter- On that occasion, did you see the boa?

Woman in gray- Yes, it was a black boa. Yes, it was at 4:00PM

Presenter- did you see it

Woman in gray- breaking his entire sidewalk. Moved everything in his house. Like it was a quake, in his house. But that one went that way by that channel there.

Presenter- And the specialist responded:

Pedro Perez- Definitely, a big animal needs to eat a lot of food … no? For it to maintain its enormous body, if it is a big animal it needs to eat big animals: (wild pig) Sajino, (another type of wild pig) Huangana, (Capibara) Ronsoco, and I don’t think they are in this place, there are not that kind of animals there. At the most, there are, maybe, little rats, and little frogs, but it is not going to be enough to maintain this, this enormous animal.

And, in some cases, it has been observed that big serpents, big boas can eat people but in very extreme cases where there is no food.

If, in case, there could be an animal so big of that dimension, then it would have been eating people in that place.

Presenter- For the most specialized explanations that exist; beliefs or popular myths, many times, overcome the scientific criteria. Before seeing it many believe that the Sachamama, a Gigantic boa or how you want to call it, keeps more alive than ever in all the lakes of the jungle and the Human Settlements.

But how can these people protect themselves from a creature they are told doesn't exist? An anomalous being that is so abominable that it's difficult for the human mind to comprehend.

SQUARE-SHAPED CROP FORMATION Near Stonehenge

A crop formation found in England sits approximately a half-mile from Stonehenge and is square in shape. It was reportedly discovered on Sunday near an ancient burial site known as Normanton Down Barrows.

Crop circle researchers have suggested that the circles are meant to convey the phases of the moon. Another pointed to the two 'layers' that comprise the square and posited that this is a sign of "protection from outside influences."

Is Yosemite Lake 'HAUNTED?'

Yosemite National Park is known for having some of the most difficult hikes in California, albeit beautiful ones. One challenging hike, in particular, takes hikers to a small alpine lake that highlights the dark side of Yosemite with a tale that has been told for centuries. If the lore is to be believed, visitors may want to make sure not to swim in the lake if they hear crying.

There have been stories of spirits that haunt Yosemite since before it was a national park. But that is part of Yosemite's draw. With visitors choosing to make reservations for Yosemite's most haunted hotel during their stay, or even exploring areas that are known to have supernatural activity in the park, there is an interest in things that cannot be explained. This is why so many make the hike to Grouse Lake to see if the lake is as haunted as the stories that surround it make it out to be. 'My Dad is a DUENDE!'

A young Bolivian woman claimed that her father was a 'goblin'. According to Valeria, it was a dream where she had this revelation, and since then, she began making crafts of these little beings, with the image of her father.

“The little elf reflects the same energy that my father had; he was a calm person (…) I grab him, touch his head, tell him that I miss him and that he should help me with this project,” said Valeria.  

The young woman says that it was her father who asked her in a dream to carry out the project; the dolls are created by her, from the body to the clothes, and then she activates them in the forest from pure to pure. TWO 'BIG, BLACK BIRD' Sightings Reported in Illinois & Wisconsin

I received the following email that references 2 separate flying cryptid encounters in two different locations, within two months during the Summer of 2011 and by the same witness!
"Hi, Lon. I know that I'm late to the game, but since you have been involved with the Chicago Mothman sightings, I thought I'd report my sightings to you.

During the Summer (June 19, 2011) I had two encounters with giant black birds; when I say giant I mean I saw (at two separate times) birds that were all black in color with wing spans as big as a small plane 14 feet or bigger.


My first encounter was early one summer morning when I was returning from the Quad Cities. I was traveling on my motorcycle on Route 30 just past I-88 when I noticed a big black object in the distance sitting in the middle of the road. I slowed my motorcycle down as I got closer to the object. At first, I thought it was a black bear sitting in the road but as I drove closer to the object I soon learned it wasn’t a bear at all. The black object was a giant BLACK BIRD which stood at least 4 to 5 feet tall. I was in awe and a little bit scared at the sight of the GIANT BIRD. I stopped my motorcycle immediately hoping that the beast would not attack me. I then looked behind me in hopes of seeing anyone else who might be witnessing this amazing sight, but of course, just like in the movies, there was no one else on the road. Realizing it was just me and the GIANT BIRD, my heart began to race with thoughts of being attacked; I slowly pulled in the clutch and put the motorcycle in gear just in case I had to make a quick getaway. The GIANT BIRD heard the noise of the gear shifting. It then looked directly at me for a brief moment, swung open its massive wings (which were at least 14 feet long), stood upright, then leaped off the ground and took off in flight. The bird looked like a small black plane and when it flew by the trees the branches were swaying back and forth. I sat on my motorcycle watching the bird fly out of sight.

I still do not know what kind of creature it was that I encountered. I have been looking online at several different kinds of birds but have yet to find the bird that I saw. The only bird that comes even close to what I saw was a condor but the bird I saw did not have a head like a condor nor did it look like that of a turkey buzzard or vulture plus this creature was much larger than a condor. I almost wonder if this was just a freak of nature; or possibly a prehistoric bird. Could it be possible that there are still some types of prehistoric birds in existence? Trust me I am not crazy. I have recently seen pictures of the legendary Thunderbirds and that is exactly what this bird looked like.


My second encounter with a giant black bird was in August of 2011. My friends and I were traveling on our motorcycles near Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on some back road when all of a sudden a giant black bird appeared out of nowhere. The bird was obliviously mad at the noise of all of our motorcycles or something because it took a dive at the couple who were traveling in front of my wife and me. The giant bird actually dove at them causing them to swerve on their motorcycle. The bird then circled around them and tried to poop on them; yes I said poop on them! I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. Luckily the poop missed them. I am not exaggerating when I say the stuff that came out of the creature was much larger than that of humans. It was disgusting! On a positive note, there were ten of us who witnessed this giant bird. Once again none of us knew exactly what kind of bird it was that we encountered. Just like I had described before the giant bird was all black with a massive wing span and its head was not like that of a condor.

I couldn’t believe that I was so fortunate to witness this massive bird again and I was so happy that my friends were with me to see it as well. I had told my friends about the bird that I had seen in June but I don’t think that any of them really believed me. Now they know that I am not crazy and are obviously convinced that the Giant Black Bird does exist.

What is really kind of scary is that I do not believe that I saw the same bird twice; I truly believe that I saw two different birds that are of the same species. How I came to this conclusion is simple the first bird was bigger than the second bird.

I only hope that anyone who reads this takes this as a real encounter and just not as another fish story. I have ten witnesses to confirm one of my sightings. I only wish I had a picture too but obviously, I can’t take pictures while I am driving a motorcycle.

Oh well, believe it or not, that is my story and I am sticking to it.
