OUIJA MADNESS! The History & Legacy!

The following article from the Oakland Tribune (Oakland, CA) dated March 5, 1920, describes four El Cerrito, CA women reportedly going insane after using a Ouija board. In the aftermath, local clergy and physicians attempt to stop the use of this 'instrument of evil.' Interesting look at early-20th-century attitudes toward the occult:

Stirred to indignation at the havoc wrought by an ouija board in the homes of four El Cerrito families and by revelations which were followed by the commitment of four women to state hospitals for the insane, phsycians, psychologists, ministers and others united today denouncing as a serious menace what had been tolerated as a harmless toy.

It was the ouija board, of the belief held in its powers, that took from the Italian colony in El Cerrito three mothers and a fifteen-year-old girl and left the fathers, who must work all day, to care for the smaller children. It was a belief in the ouija that gave little Rosa Bottini, as she carries her baby sister through the streets, that faraway look that may mean she will have to join h er mother in the asylum.

Judge R. H. Lattimer and an insanity commission have committed Mrs. Josephine Soldavini, Mrs. Maria Moro, Mrs. Santina Bottini and Adeline Bottine to the asylums at Stockton and Napa. Charles Soldarini, Louis and Harry Farrario and G.B. Bottini were released.

EFFORT INAUGURATED TO STAMP OUT CRAZE

With the spectacle of El Cerrito’s disrupted homes in mind and with the knowledge that four women of that city have been sent to state asylums for the insane as the result of their faith in the little varnished boards, a determined effort to expose the ouija for what it is and to end the craze for its use has been inaugurated.

The Ouija produces hysteria and sometimes insanity, say the physicians and the psychologists.

It is an instrument of evil, say the ministers.

Even the defenders, those who have lectured and demonstrated the board in Oakland, join in the warning against the general use of the board.

Heading a number of those interviewed today as to their opinions as to the danger of the ouija board, Dr. Fred Councilman, superintendent of the State Asylum for the Insane at Stockton, said:

“The ouija I consider is dangerous as it produces manifestations of hysteria and a single belief which excludes all others. Those who accept it as being occult have no mind for anything else.”

Voicing the sentiments of the church, Dr. Frank Silsey, of First Presbyterian Church, said:

“Unquestionably the looks upon the ouija as a device of the devil. Under the terms, ‘lying wonders,’ it is condemned in the Scriptures. Its effect on the user is a spiritual, moral, and mental decline. It is extremely dangerous for one to go to the ouija even in a spirit of idle curiosity.

HYSTERIA CAUSED BY USE, DOCTOR SAYS

Dr. Jan Don Ball of Oakland, the noted psychologist, neurologist, and psychiatrist, made the following comment on the El Cerrito situation:

“Use of the ouija board is dangerous, particularly for the belief it often occasions that its manifestations are of an occult nature, when in reality they are but manifestations of the hysterical condition of the individual. There have been many cases of persons becoming hysterical to the point of seeming insanity through the use of these boards.

“A peculiar thing about the ouija of any such emotional phenomena as it appears tohave occasioned is that it is readily communicative. In earlier days whole villages have become afflicted with a religious frenzy. The El Cerrito ouija manifestations appear to have been similar. When the automatic, sub-conscious control of the ouija is mistaken for something occult and not of this world, there is always the danger of hysteria.

“Automatic writing and ouija phenomena are not always a manifestation of hysteria or disease. It may occur in a perfectly normal, or so-called normal, man. It is the subversion of the control of the will by the emotions. When one talks of being in a trance, in connection with these phenomena, or of talking to the spirits, they are in danger. - Oakland Tribune, Oakland, California - 5 March 1920

A READER'S OUIJA BOARD EXPERIENCE

"I was at my friend's house over one weekend and on Sunday night we decided to make ourselves a Ouija board, now... there will be people reading this saying, "you idiots!" and "what on earth were you thinking!", etc. I am perfectly aware that it can sometimes be dangerous if it isn't done in the correct way. I took all the precautions, using a piece of flat plywood which was laminated with plastic on the one side, using an old glass which could later be discarded.

Now...allow me to tell you what happened!

This was both our first time and we both assured each other that we were going to do it properly, no being stupid and pushing the glass around to fool the other.

We started off by saying a prayer and then asking if there were any spirits present. We were requesting only contact with peaceful and good energies/spirits.

The glass was moving very slowly at first and we were unsure if it was working or not. We asked if there was somebody who wished to talk to us and the glass slowly moved over to the 'yes' marker. We asked if the spirit was male or female and it indicated that it was female. We then asked it to spell out it's name. It then picked up a bit of speed, first going to a 'K' and then to a 'Y' and then to 'M' then it went back to the center, spelling out 'KYM'.

Now, my friend went absolutely white and you could see that he was freaked out. We then asked how she died and the spirit spelled ou and the spirit spelled out 'CAR'. My friend became even more freaked out. Then we asked what kind of car it was that she died in and it proceeded to spell out, RELIANT ROBIN. It was at this point that my friend told me that his auntie was dead, her name was Kym, that she died in a car accident and what car was she in??? You guessed it...she was in a Reliant Robin.

We then asked the spirit if it had anything to tell us. It indicated 'NO' and then said 'GOODBYE'.

Next we asked if there were anymore spirits that wished to communicate with us. It suddenly got very cold in the room and the hair was standing up on our necks and legs. This spirit was powerful, the glass moved a LOT faster. We asked if it was a male or female and it indicated that was a 'MALE'. We asked for the spirits name and it said he was called 'LIAM'. We asked for the spirit's age when he passed over and he went to the '7' and then to the '0' indicating '70'. We then asked whether he had anything to tell us and it proceeded to spell out, 'OLLIE'. Which is in fact my friend's younger brother's name! My friend then told me that his younger brother Ollie had seen the spirit of an old man standing in the garden some years earlier. We asked if it had anything else to tell us. We received some letters which seemed like total gibberish....'W L S' and 'W J S' and also 'O D O X'. We have yet to find out if the letters actually mean anything. The last thing it said to us was 'ADIEU', which I believe is French for farewell? We took that as our cue to finish up, we closed down with another prayer."

NOTE: I have always been wary of the use of Ouija boards...especially as the result of an investigation where I sensed the presence of a nasty entity that apparently 'sneaked through' during a client's Ouija board session. Any divination tool or ritual used to contact and summon spirits can have dire consequences. What do you think? Is this anecdote's result just a bit too convenient? What experiences have you had? "This is a response to your article about Ouija boards. I thought I would tell you about an experience my sister had many years ago.

She was around 15 or so and was at a friend's house for a sleepover. Her and a few other friends decided to play with a Ouija board in their garage. Her friend's mother was at work and her father was in bed, so they had no supervision. While playing with the board they asked if anyone who wanted to speak to them. They got a YES, they asked for a name. They got MOM, they asked for a message. They got UNDR BRIDG. They did not understand the message at the time.

Later, after they had gone on to bed, there was a knock at the front door. It was the local sheriff who had come to the house to tell the girl's father that his wife had been killed in a car accident on her way home from work that night. Her car was found submerged in water under a bridge just a few miles from their home.

To this day, my sister will not go near or even discuss the subject of Ouija boards." J

...and the following account:

"So, I've been thinking a lot recently of a session I had with a couple of friends and an Ouija Board 3 years ago. I tried posting and asking about Ouija boards on /x/ but no one had anything interesting to say on the topic. I used to believe in spirits and be really into the occult but this experience kind of spooked me away and I don't know what I believe right now. Well here's the story, let me know what you make of it:

So I was with 3 or 4 friends in a girl's basement. We were all into the occult and supernatural stuff and brought out the Ouija board to mess around. We contacted a spirit (she said she was good) and asked her what her name was. She said 'EMILY' and '6'. We asked a couple of random questions and treated her like we would a real six year old. Then someone got the idea to ask her how she died (big mistake) and she spelled out, 'MOM'. At this point, I though I recognized the spirit and took my hands off the board. I kept asking questions that I knew the answer to and if this spirit was the girl I thought she was, she would too. I asked if she had siblings, she said 'YES'. I asked what color her house was and she said 'BLUE'. Then I asked what street she lived on and she said 'LOOMIS'. All of these answers lined up with a murder that happened in my town (Naperville, IL) in 1999. I used to live a mile or two down the road on the same street.

We were officially creeped out but not to be rude we asked her to leave and she said she didn't want to. We told her to please leave and that she can't stay but that we wish her the best. On our way up from the basement the old play room that my friend hadn't used in years was wide open with a few toys out of their box lying on the floor like they were just used. It still seemed that she left though because my friend never mentioned anything weird going on in her house.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE OUIJA BOARD

What is a Ouija board? Ouija boards came into existence as a parlor game in the mid-1800s, when spiritism and channeling were at the height of fashion. The word "Ouija" is a blend of the French and German words for "yes." Adolphus Theodore Wagner first patented Ouija boards, sometimes referred to as "talking boards," in London, England on January 23, 1854. In the patent, Wagner called his invention a "psychograph" and its purpose was to read the minds of people with "nervous energy." By 1861, Frenchman, Allan Kardac, was describing the Ouija board as instrument with which to open communications with the spirit world. In seven short years, the Ouija board had evolved from a mind reader to a portal of communication with the dead.

Modern Ouija boards were developed by inventor William Fuld in Baltimore, MD. Fuld sold his patent to Parker Brothers in 1966. Ouija boards, as we recognize them today, look nothing like the original prototypes. The 20-25 million Ouija boards sold by Parker Brothers consist of a rectangular game board that is covered with a woodcut-style alphabet, the words yes, no, and good-bye, and the numbers 0-9. Also included with the "game" is a heart-shaped plastic planchette. The planchette is the 'pointer' that is supposed to glide over the board under the direction of supernatural forces and form comments and questions by pointing out questions and comments. Parker Brothers has marketed Ouija Boards under the tagline, "It's only a game - isn't it?" - allabouttheoccult.org

Possible 'SHAPESHIFTER' Encounter at South Minneapolis Light Rail Crossing

A reader submits an unexplained encounter with a possible shapeshifter while stopped at a light rail crossing in South Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I received this reader submission:

"In the summer, near the end of August 2012, I saw something really strange. I was on 42nd and Hiawatha in South Minneapolis MN around 6:30 pm, when the light rail stopped the traffic from heading east. I turned my head and saw what appeared to be a man with a face like nothing I've ever seen. I looked briefly and noticed what appeared to be something like elephant/cyclops face. He was using his hands to continually push his face up. I kinda freaked out and didn't want to look. However I was stuck at the tracks, right next to him, and it was really hard to not notice this man.

Before the light changed I took another look and noticed he was still trying to push his face back into some shape. He was wearing a trench coat, and driving a green older mini van. I was not seeing things, and definitely felt like I saw something other worldly. Is it possible I saw a shapeshifter? Has anyone else ever seen something like this before. I just can't get my mind off this. Thanks, J"

RED-GLOWING WINGED HUMANOID Reported Over Vltava River, Czech Republic

I received the following statement from a witness in the Czech Republic. I had to edit the narrative because of the spelling, etc., though I kept the original text as best as I could to convey the story in the witness' own words:

"Hello - I hope you are having a very good day. Please bear with my lack of English. My experience would not be well received in my community. I ask that you not publish my name and town.

I live in a town north of Prague in the Czech Republic. My family and I have lived here for many generations. My homeland is full of stories about legends, myths and ghosts. I had never taken these legends seriously until I had an encounter with this unknown 'thing'. I looked on the internet and most of what I found led me to your site 'Phantoms & Monsters'.

My home is near the Vltava River - I can look out from my second floor and observe the entire waterway. The time was close to 10pm and I was sitting on the terrace on the 2nd floor. I noticed a red light floating over the river - it continued for several minutes. I noticed a red light floating over the river and it continued for several minutes. I have seen many white and yellow orb UFOs over the river at night, but this was different. I then observed the red light move towards the riverbank in my direction. The light was gaining altitude and moving towards me. When the light started to pass over me, I could tell from the moonlit sky that it was a large bird with huge wings. The entire front of this bird was glowing bright red. There was no sound. As I watched, it started to circle above me without flapping the wings and was descending towards me. It slowly flew lower until it finally landed on the roadway beside my house - about 60 meters from me. The street lamp illuminated the bird enough to where I got a very good look at it.

I can only describe it as a "human bird." I read your stories about the mothman and these match closely. One difference is the size. This "human bird' was very tall - I would say 4 meters! The head was very large and red light glowed all around the circumference. It had long legs and a torso like a man. It didn't walk but hopped like a bird. The wings were shaped like those of a flying fox. I watched it hop along the road for several minutes. Then it disappeared - just vanished.

This incident took place in June 2013. I have not heard of other people seeing this "human bird", though I'd be surprised if any of the local people would mention such an experience.

NOTE: I'm going to search for other sightings in Eastern Europe, though I think I am aware of those sightings that had been reported. Not sure what to make of this submission. Taunt REPTILIANS At Your Own Risk!

The following narrative is a submission by Matt R.:

On 8/24/13, I appeared on the Daniel Ott Radio Show. I discussed the history of my reptilian abductions, along with the experiences of the others involved in my mass abduction in 2005. I also spoke about several other cases, and their parallels to my own encounters.

In the last 10 minutes of the show, the host cracked a joke about killing reptilians. What can only be described as an inhuman growl jumped into our conversation immediately after? Apparently, whatever reptilian was on the line wanted to voice their displeasure with his joke. During this conversation, I was sitting inside a parked car with the engine off. I was talking on my Skype app, over my phone's 4G connection. There was no other radio or computer anywhere near me. I can't think of anything that could have produced a growling noise that vivid. That certainly didn't sound like line interference. There are no audio files or ringtones on my Samsung S3 that sound like that. There was a deep guttural quality to it, which made it similar to what I've heard from reptilians before. Mr Ott does not have a history of pranking people on his program. And, I know there is no possible explanation for the generation of that noise on my end.

This growl sounds quite similar to some of the ones heard on the recordings made during the reptilian encounters at David Eckhart's household. They too have that deep, gurgling, and emotive quality to them. The last time I spoke to David, he related an interesting anecdote about reptilians and telephones. This was during a fully conscious encounter, where a couple of reptilians surrounded him while he was working on some business paperwork at a desk in his home. A reptilian examined his new smartphone and said something to the effect of “You know we can break into this one too, right?”. Apparently, they thought he had replaced phones to try and circumvent their hacking attempts. The truth was, he had just decided to upgrade to a new phone. Mr. Eckhart also once saw a female reptilian quickly disassemble, and reassemble their home phone handset. During the process, she inserted a small device in the phone. The speed and skill with which she did so suggests she was experienced with tapping. I have had numerous phone hacking incidents, as I have discussed in previous articles on this site http://www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2012/11/the-katrina-abductions-new-revelations.html.

Being something of a feudalistic warrior culture, the reptilians have an acute sensitivity to perceived insults and threats. As many reptilian abductees have discovered, they can disproportionately react when verbally antagonized. This is particularly true if the origin of the threatening gesture or statement is a male human. The best policy for interacting with reptilians is to use the same practice you would use speaking to a known 1% biker club member, who is wearing his logo. You have virtually no margin of safety to disrespect them. Now, this does not seem to apply to reptilians acting in a scientist or doctor role. They do not tend to overreact to perceived insults. However, the majority of encountered reptilians fall into some spectrum of what would be called a "warrior culture". That outburst on the line certainly sounded emotionally driven. It occurred less than one second after Daniel Ott's joke. This exemplifies how quickly reptilians can mentally process, and involuntarily react to a threat. The reptilians have a fundamentally different neurological composition, which lets them react faster than a human would. MOTHMAN in Central Ohio? Witness Reports Unexplained Sighting!

An Ohio man was driving at night near Grove City when he observed a tall and wide being along the side of the road that appeared to wrap wings around its body. What was it?

I received the following account:

"I was driving back to my home in Grove City, Ohio at about 9 pm on February 22, 2024, when I saw something very strange. I had just made a turn off RT104 onto Borror Rd. and was driving around a sharp turn when I saw something brown on the side of the road. I first assumed it was a deer since I have seen several on this road before but as I got closer it was too big to be a deer.

The best I can describe this object is that it looked like a big piece of brown shag carpet about 6 to 7 feet tall and about 10 feet wide. As I came close to passing this object on the side of the road it folded up like the rug was being folded in half. I flinched and swerved out of the way because as it folded I thought it was lunging toward me and coming after me. I just sped up and kept driving home. It looked like a creature with wings that folded around the body as I approached.

I did not tell anyone what I had seen for a few days because I was so baffled and didn't want to believe that I had seen what I had. After replaying the sighting over and over in my head I decided to tell my wife and we started looking up on the internet, things that might match what I saw. The closest thing we could come up with is the Mothman except I didn't see any glowing eyes, but if the eyes were reflective I would probably not have seen them because the creature was facing the road and not my headlights. Was it a Whale or CRYPTID SEA CREATURE in the South China Sea?

A Vietnamese woman was escaping by boat, with other people, and transversing toward Thailand in the South China Sea. A huge 'fish' appears, but unknown what it is.

I received the following account:

"Hello there, Lon. It came to interest me how you can send in your own story about a close encounter or possibly something unusual. So I have a story my mother told me a long time ago about encountering a creature (which of course I was really skeptical about) when she was roughly 15-16 years old (Now 65). She recently told me the story again and it was still the same way she told me when I was 15-16 which then made me believe, what if it was true? And if it is true, what was it?

When my mother was still living in Vietnam, she was very poor like every working Vietnamese citizen there. People worked hard to try to earn money or at the very least get enough food to survive the rough lifestyle of Vietnam. Back then, my mother told me it was a very shady place to live. People died easily because of starvation or health problems which killed many hard-working people. Another way many people died was how citizens were forced to go to different areas of Vietnam to work. My mother was soon one of the many who had to be forced to go elsewhere.

That very same night when she was soon to leave, her brother managed to tell her about a boat that was to be used to escape Vietnam and head away from there. At least a dozen people (including my Mother and Uncle) got on a boat and headed out from Hà Tiên towards Thailand.

That night, when the dozen escaped, they celebrated and rejoiced by drinking and eating on the boat through the first night. Through the 2nd or 3rd day, their engine broke, and were now traveling where the water took them. Through the 4th day of being on water, they barely had any supplies and soon the group began to think they would all die with little water and food.

My mother doesn't know what day this was during the one week of being out at sea before reaching Thailand but this is when the encounter with the creature occurred. My mother also didn't tell me what time of day it was, but it was bright enough to be able to see the creature in the water. (during mid-day?)

As the boat was still moving through the force of the water, my mother noticed a very big creature close to the boat. She described the creature to be "gray" in color and also very big. She told me that the creature must have been much bigger than the boat they were in considering it was right beside them.

Also, my mother explained to me that the creature didn't move at all when my mother looked at the body of the creature, it just stayed in the shallow water. Surprisingly, I asked her if she saw a face, tail, or anything else that could define it. But she told me that her friend grabbed her and told her not to look in case something bad were to occur. Another interesting detail my mother told me was that she felt, that if the creature were to move, even its tail if it did have one, she thought the boat would definitely flip or possibly destroy the boat. I asked my Mom what you thought it could have been and the first thing that came up in her mind was "Fish."

But I know in my own conscience, it couldn't have been a fish. So I also asked her if the body of the creature was smooth, and she responded, "Yes." After the next couple of days, the dozen managed to make it to Thailand and never saw that creature again.

So in my own thoughts, I had to rule out that it was no fish, and if somehow in the world, it is a fish, it's definitely a unique one with a smooth gray body and no scales.

Also, if my mother did see its entire body, there were definitely no top fins on the creature which almost wants me to rule out it was no shark, but it could have been a bit deeper to not reveal its top fin?

I'm also not too sure what creatures lurk in the South China Sea and if they even have any big sea creatures.

I wanted to come up with a possibility it was a whale or shark but to get so close to a boat, wouldn't the creatures get scared? Also, it stood still in the water for a while, I don't exactly know if sharks have the tendency to do that. Whales on the other hand, maybe? Even for a fish, there definitely, is no way it could be one.

I was hoping I could get some answers on what it may of or could have been. If you guys get this, hopefully, you guys can fill me in with anything related to this.

LARGE, LANKY PALE 'CREATURE' Encountered, Later Vanishes, in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania

Two brothers are hiking in the woods near their home in Northumberland County, PA when one of the pair encounters a large, lanky pale 'being' that soon vanishes.

I received the following account:

"Sir - About three years ago, I had a strange encounter in the length of woods that borders my house in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania near Elysburg. It was winter and I was on one of my routine hikes with my brother. We would periodically stop and rest, listening to the sounds of the forest. We were climbing a steep hill and having a hell of a time with it. Our march was halted when I stepped in a pothole and when I finally dragged my foot out we decided to take a breather. That's when I saw it.

We were just standing there, making small talk, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a figure. I turned and saw a large, lanky creature watching us from atop a hill. The very instant my gaze fixed on it, it began to barrel down the hill at us. I tried to run or even alert my brother, but I couldn't move. I was paralyzed with fear.

I heard my brother ask, "What's the matter?" But I couldn't tell him because I didn't know. I didn't know what I was looking at. I was finally able to break my paralysis and was about to tell him what was happening and then it was gone. Just POOF! Like smoke in the wind. Needless to say, I hauled my butt out of there. If I was to describe the thing I would say that it was at least 6'6". It had a slim build and was completely nude. Its body was pale. I never caught sight of its face or any reproductive parts, but I have the feeling it was male.

Every time I look back on it and try to analyze what it might have been I always come up short. I can't come up with a believable or concrete explanation. I sometimes doubt I saw anything at all. Granted this is not the first strange experience I've had in those woods. The disembodied baby's cry comes to mind." C

NOTE: Was it a flesh & blood hominid, an apparition, or possibly a multidimensional being. Or maybe something completely different? A while ago, I received another interesting, but very brief, account from a reader in Pennsylvania. She states that she witnessed what looked like a feral human while in the vicinity of Tiadaghton State Forest in Lycoming County during the late 1970s. This being was described as only 4 feet tall with reddish hair all over the body, though sparse on the chest where she noticed what she thought were breasts. The facial features were human in all respects. This hominin stood for a few seconds, made no sound, turned to its left, took a step, and faded away as if it were walking through a wall of water. The email didn't go into much more detail but she did state that the area did have 'old ghost towns' in it. Lon

TALL, THIN HUMANOID ENCOUNTERS Reported in Hebbronville, Texas

A Texas woman tells me about similar encounters that her son and her friend both had at different locations with tall, thin humanoids. Were these separate alien encounters?

I received an interesting email recently. What do you think is going on?

"Hello, Lon. This all happened last week on Thursday and Friday evening. Around 11-12:00 at night, both nights, in Hebbronville, Texas. Thursday evening I went to a friend's house to do a couple loads of laundry. She only lives a few houses down so I waited til the kids were asleep to go. My oldest was still awake and I asked him to keep watch as the man of the house. I had to do the same as a kid with my siblings quite often. I figure he's 10 so he's old enough. Husband was at work doing the night shift. I left around 10:45 pm.

As I was leaving I felt scared to leave them. I felt something wasn't right. But thought I wasn't going to be far and would come back to check on them. So I put the clothes in the washer and went back home immediately. My oldest son was in the living room playing with our cat. Everything seemed fine and I figured I was being silly. So I went back. I stayed til around midnight. I got home everything seemed fine. My son was asleep on the couch. I went to bed and that was that.

The next day my son tells me he saw something the night before while I was out. He said he was playing with the cat when he noticed something peeking into our living room window. He said it was an alien. Tall skinny with dark gray green skin. Funny shaped heads. When it left our window he said he crawled over to the window and peeked out. He said the beings were walking around peeking into peoples windows. One stood watch while the other did this. My son said he was scared. But didn't give any more details. So that evening I stayed up all night to keep watch. I would go outside and check the area. I checked on the kids all night. I was exhausted by 4:30 am. Nothing out of the ordinary happened.

The next day, which was Saturday I came over to my friends house again. The kids and hubby went out of town. So I bring up the story my son told me and my friend tells me she had an encounter the night before. I get all excited. She tells me it was between 11 and 12 at night. She was sleeping on her couch in the living room. It's a small 2 bedroom house. From the couch you can see the back door. She was having trouble getting to sleep. During this time she says she heard the handle to the back door turn like someone was trying to get in. They turned the knob and she could hear them push the door. Then she noticed the lock moving. It was opening! At this time she got scared and remembers blacking out right when she was feeling panic. Later she remembers 3 beings in the house. She described them exactly as my son did. When I told her my sons story I didn't really give details about their appearance. But she was able to describe the same thing. This for me confirmed my son wasn't lying. My friend and son had no contact at all during their experiences. She described them as slimy looking with dark green skin like an avocado. They were tall and thin. She said she just laid on the couch in a groggy state as they walked around her house. Those were bits and pieces she remembered the next day.

Sunday I was talking to my son about what he saw and I told him my friend's story. He made a face and said he made the whole thing up. Now I would believe that if my friend hadn't told me her story. The fact that they both described the same thing tells me it truly happened. I am confused now but know my friend wouldn't lie. She isn't into aliens and UFOs or anything like that. So she has no need to make anything up. I find both stories fascinating. I hope you can make sense of it." M

WHAT DID I SEE? Was it Living or a Manifestation?

A Missouri woman contacted me about seeing a creature that she could not explain. She has been experiencing a variety of unexplained activity since her husband passed over 2 years ago.
I received the following inquiry:

"Hello Lon, I wanted to share this with you - it happened about a month ago.

I was on my way home from work. It was around 3:00 in the afternoon and was raining and cold - but not a heavy rain, just enough to use the wiper delay. I was in the city where I work in Missouri. Instead of taking the highway I took a town route. There is two lanes going eastbound and two lanes going westbound and one lane for turning in the middle. I was heading westbound. Lots of traffic this day going both ways. We all were driving not even close to a stoplight yet. so we were doing probably around 35 to 40 MPH.

On my left side I see this animal (I guess it was an animal), not running - but what looked like flying, but on the ground one side to the other. No one screeched there brakes - no one stopped at all. I reached to where it had crossed the road and witnessed it continuing to go down an alley way.

It wasn't a dog or a deer. I'm not sure what it was - just looked like a slim long animal with a pointed face. At first I thought it was a greyhound type dog, but I thought about it and realized that it wasn't a dog. No one reacted like they even noticed it and whatever it was didnt dodge vehicles like a dog would or any other animal would have. I cant explain it.

I have experienced paranormal activity in my house - I've seen shadow figures twice, which also pulled my pony tail and poked me. Since my husband died in April of 2022, I have witnessed weird stuff - you would possibly expect from someone who has departed this earth. If anyone knows what animal could move like that, I would love to find out. I am ordering a dash cam, so next time people I tell can see it if it happens again .

Possible RED-EYED BIGFOOT Running Alongside Car Near Palestine, Illinois

A couple is driving home to Robinson, Illinois. While driving by Fuller Cemetery the wife in the passenger seat became hysterical, stating she saw an upright dark-haired, red-eyed creature!

I received the following account:

"Long time reader, first time writer. I want to first say how much I appreciate everything you do/have done with the site. It’s a great blog and I check it every day, usually more than 3 times a day.

A few years ago, my now ex-wife and I were coming home from a trip to Vincennes, Indiana. It was around 10:00 pm and in the late Spring. We were traveling north on ILRR 33 towards Palestine, and we lived in Robinson, Illinois. Somewhere just south of the “Fuller Cemetery” I spotted a wild turkey or some other large bird on the right-hand side of the road. As we past it, she started to scream. She worked herself up to near tears and I was laughing (I’m so mean), but I could tell she was honestly distraught.

As I pulled over into the cemetery drive, I told her to calm down, it was just a turkey that we saw. I asked her why she got so scared. She said, “I didn’t see a turkey!” I asked her what she saw and her response gave me goose-bumps. The hair on the back of my neck is standing up now, years later, re-telling the story. “What do you mean...what did I see? You didn’t see that?” I had no idea what she was talking about, but she told me just as we came around a small curve (where I had seen the turkey that she didn’t see), that she saw a large animal running alongside our car. “All I could see was dark fur and red eyes. It was running upright alongside the car. Its head was at the top of the window. It was humongous!” I started going through animals that were big and near that height. The only half-way logical one I could think of was a bear.

So when we got home I photoshopped a picture of a bear illuminated as she would have seen it and reddened the eyes just a bit. She was frantic again, “That’s what I saw! That’s what I saw!”

Crawford County is not known for its bear population, in fact, other than this story, I’ve never heard from anyone else who has encountered one. They just aren’t here. She would probably swear today that it was what she saw. I now believe that she saw a Bigfoot! Jason"
