PHANTOM PLOUGHMAN of Lower Merion, Pennsylvania

I received the following information from Jon Wyatt, a blog contributor and reader from Melbourne, Australia. I don't believe I had been aware of this account previously:

"Hi, Lon. I noticed this story in an 1889 Australian digitalised newspaper and thought you may be interested. It was reprinted from a contemporary American publication.

The report describes how several people saw a phantom plowman and two fiery horses in a field near Lower Merion, Pa, in March 1886. The apparition manifested for 2-3 nights and left behind a neatly plowed area.

Lower Merion is an old town first settled by Welsh immigrants in the 1690s, as the phantom was not recognised it possibly came from the 1700s.

The legend is mentioned in the book Unnatural Phenomena: A Guide to the Bizarre Wonders of North America[image error] by Jerome Clark and John Clark.

I wonder how many laws of physics were violated at Lower Merion. Are you aware of a haunting where so much supernatural evidence was left?"

A PHANTOM PLOUGHMAN

In the north-western corner of Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pa., a great hubbub has been raised by a phantom farmer who is nightly seen plowing in a field. The apparition was discovered about the end of March [1886] by a farm hand returning from courting. Emerging from a wooded pathway that skirted an old forest for miles, this rustic was startled to hear a sepulchral voice commanding a team to halt. He looked in vain about the place for a moment or two and was about to move on again when the same sound fell on his ear. A shiver crept over him as he heard the croaking of an unseen harness, and his terror was far from being allayed by the whinny of a horse almost directly before him. At that moment the new moon stole over the neighbouring treetops, and in its misty light, he plainly saw the phantom farmer. It was clearly outlined against the dark background, and its two hands held in a steady grasp the projecting handles of a plough. Before it marched a pair of spirited horses, dimly outlined in the misty light, their heads erect and their eyes flashing fire as they moved hastily along. The young man waited another moment to reassure himself and was about to take to his heels when ploughman, horse, and plough suddenly vanished. Then he, too, fled in wild alarm.

SEEN BY SEVEN MEN

At Silas Brown's corner grocery on the night succeeding this, the young man, Albert Cooper, by name, told this startling story. The crowd adjourned to the alleged scene of the ghost's operations to verify or disprove Cooper's tale. They had not long to wait. Without the noises that had warned Cooper the night before, the phantom farmer appeared before the eyes of the seven men who sat upon the fence, or, to be more accurate, who almost fell from it in terror. His long white hair and beard streamed in the passing wind. No hat was upon his head, nor could any portion of his face be soon except the glistening eyes. These shot out from a height of more than seven feet from the ground, indicating the spectral granger was taller than the average of humankind. About his body, which could not well be traced, there was a phosphorescent glow that dazzled the eyes of the terrified spectators and shone far ahead of the steadily moving hones. The plough he leaned on seemed of skeleton frame, but it tossed off the soft, moist earth as easily as a steamer turns the river waves. On he came, the horses seeming to exhale fire, their heads erect and arching, and footfall as firm and clear as any the watchers ever heard. At the corner of the field, they turned obediently at a word from their spectral driver and again passed before the affrighted spectators, who thereupon fled in haste.

THE FIELD PLOUGHED BY THE GHOST

On the following morning, a crowd of rustics determined to go to the field and see whether any trace of the farmer could be found. As they came in sight of the enclosure one of the numbers exclaimed in astonishment: 'I'll be durned if the thing doesn't plough, sure enough.' He was right. One-half of the field had been gone over evidently by no novice. The furrows were not quite so broad as those made by an ordinary ploughman. but they were less ragged and more deep and were as straight as the most experienced eye could make them. A day or two after the same group went out to view the fields again, and this time they found that the phantom had finished the work. The owner of the field was one of the number, and he took a solemn oath that he had not turned a sod in the enclosure.

BLACK-EYED 'ALTERNATE REALM' TRAVELER? Eyewitness Sensed Overwhelming Malevolence!

A possible 'alternate being' is reported by the witness, who was extremely frightened by a feeling of evil that was overwhelming. Then it suddenly vanished. What could this have been?

I received the following account:

"I had a disturbing experience when I was younger. My family was on a day trip by car and we stopped at a fast food restaurant to eat in San Diego, CA. We walk in and immediately I was overcome with a 'sense' of extreme dread and fear. I soon noticed a man eating by himself. He was pale-skinned and wearing a white pull-over shirt. He also had on a yellow knitted cap. The hair was sticking out of it as if he had been wearing this for a long period of time. I was extremely frightened with a feeling of evil that was overwhelming. His looks didn't alarm me, but his aura was ominous. I immediate lost my appetite because of my sense of terror. I couldn't help but look over at this man. He was also moving in very slow and deliberate. As I looked closer, his fingernails were long and bluish in color. His eyes were black, which stood out against his pale skin.

I tried to get my parents to notice but they continued talking. Apparently no one else was picking up this vibration of malevolence. Eventually I abruptly interrupted their conversation and said, 'Look at that man over there,' while nodding in his direction. My father turned and said 'Which man?' That quickly, the strange man had disappeared. There was no trace of him. I had only taken my eyes off of him for a few seconds. He simply vanished. I still felt his presence. In fact, I felt like he was near me for the rest of the day.

I have never had that same feeling since that day, but I know I have seen the same strange man on several occasions. I truly believe that the he was actually there and that he somehow disappeared into an alternate realm. As well, I think that he continues to do so. Could he be sending me or others a message?" HJ

New Jersey Hunter Reported BIGFOOT ATTACK in New Jersey's Pine Barrens

A witness has come forward saying he believes it was a Bigfoot that attacked him and his three brothers, in Southampton Township, Burlington County, New Jersey.

In an account carried on the website BFRO.net (Bigfoot Research Organization), Chris Ruediger claims that a Bigfoot screamed and charged at them from a nearby swamp, while they were deer hunting.

Ruediger says they were in the woods near Routes 70 and 206, hunting near a logging road. It was nighttime and he said:

"Something started screaming and charging at us from the swamp. It would charge at us and then stop. You could feel the ground it was big. We had flashlights but they stayed out of sight. When it screamed at us it was so loud it went through you. It was charging and breaking branches and moving around."

Ruediger says they had their guns ready and would have shot if they could clearly have identified whatever it was.

He says whatever it was kept charging, screaming, then backed off.

Ruediger says he and his brothers were all intimidated by what they saw, but they've never spoken about it since. He says his relationship with his brothers is not close.

Here's the kicker - this incident happened back in December of 2001. There's no mention as to why the witness didn't come forward until now.

Pennsylvania’s Delaware Valley: GHOST CENTRAL!

Known as Pennsylvania’s “Mistressof the Macabre” and “Hostess with the Mostest Ghosts,” for two decades(1970-1990), Adi-Kent Thomas Jeffrey, supernatural investigator, andbest-selling author, was considered the Keystone State’s preeminent authorityon spectral phenomena.

In the early 1970s, Adi-Kent Thomas Jeffrey (1916-1990), then a resident of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, for over twenty years, was considered one of the nation’s premier paranormal investigators. She first attained notoriety when she wrote a series of articles on the “Dark Side of the Delaware,” which appeared regularly in the pages of the Sunday Magazine of the Philadelphia Bulletin. The notoriety that she gained from her writings on the paranormal in the Philadelphia press, led her onto the lecture circuit, presenting programs on such controversial topics as parapsychology and extra-sensory perception (ESP) to large and ever-expanding audiences across the United States. She also conducted ghost tours throughout Pennsylvania and wrote several books on sundry mysterious phenomena one might encounter in the contemporary world, with her most famous and best-selling being The Bermuda Triangle (New York, New York: Warner Books, 1975). Her fascination with and research activities in various areas of the paranormal garnered her the title of Pennsylvania’s “Mistress of the Macabre.”

For investigating hundreds of ghost reports in the Delaware Valley over the decades, Adi-Kent came to the realization that ghosts tended to haunt people, rather than the places where they lived. This profound insight came upon her after she met a hospitable lady by the name of Hilda Chance. It seems that in nearly every home where Hilda ever resided, specters have consistently been sighted. While Hilda did not encounter any ghosts herself while growing up in the small town of Harrington, Delaware, she did report that her mother frequently reported seeing a spectral apparition walking through the rooms of their home in the early hours before sunrise. Once Hilda was on her own, however, she got married and moved with her husband Joseph into a home that he had rented across the Delaware River in Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, in the Delaware Valley. After a few years, Joseph and Hilda had several children. But there was also one uninvited guest. “We had one visitor there,” related Hilda to Adi-Kent, adding, “a little boy.”

This young boy would just appear to the Chance children at such times that they were sick. Whenever the Chance family members were in good health, the little boy would never materialize. “Then the moment one of them would feel ill,” noted Adi-Kent, “she (Hilda) would report a visit from this strange little boy.” In her report to Adi-Kent, Hilda remarked, “He (the little boy) would talk to my children at such times and the message was always the same: ‘Leave this house with me! Come on! Run away! Follow me, and I will show you a nice place, a much nicer place than this!’” Hilda didn’t believe that the appearance of the little boy was frightening to her children, although it did serve to arouse their curiosity. Hilda said that her children became preoccupied with questions about who the boy was, in addition to wondering where this “nicer place” was that the ghost was prodding them to seek refuge in.

At first, Hilda thought that maybe the young visitor was a spirit who once had lived and died in their very house. The little visitor did seem to revel in being in the company of her children, as the young boy appeared to be about the same age as her children. But why did the ghost boy only show up when her children were sick, and moreover, why was he trying to persuade them to leave with him and go into the spirit world? Once Hilda provided all of the details she could remember to Adi-Kent, the paranormal investigator went right to work on the case. After a brief week or so, she looked into the past of the Boothwyn home and discovered that some years back a young boy had died on the property from meningitis. The physical description of the ghost boy provided in the documents uncovered showed a match with the descriptions of the apparition provided by the children. Joseph was concerned about this phenomenon and how it was impacting his family. Therefore, he decided to buy a home of his own to move his wife and kids out of the growing controversy surrounding the haunted property in Boothwyn.

The new home was a large, old-stone mansion surrounded by beautifully planted grounds, located in nearby Upper Chichester Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The manse was once owned by a locally prominent family, one that also owned most of the real estate (residential, commercial, and undeveloped) in the environs. Hilda Chance recalled that “When I would be alone in that house, working or reading or writing downstairs, I would hear what sounded like footsteps of a little old lady padding about on the second floor. I would hear much opening and closing of doors and closets and the creaking and slamming of dresser drawers as though they were being opened and closed one after another. I would stop and listen attentively. It was always easy to picture the little old lady cleaning the house and putting things away. I could hear the hustling of hr busy feet for hours at a time. One day I decided to try to meet this friendly spirit whom I felt undoubtedly was the former mistress of that house. I went to the foot of the stairs (Oh, those beautiful, old curved banisters!); and called up, ‘Welcome to my home now! Come on down and let’s have a friendly visit!’ Abruptly, the sounds ceased and I never heard them again.”

Hilda does note, however, that after this incident her family was “badgered with other strange occurrences.” There were loud knocks that banged incessantly on different doors when no one was close to them. Some thumps would trounce against the window panes, but these were always close to where Chance's family members were sitting. Every time that Joseph and Hilda tried to check out the situation, nobody could be seen and no apparent cause was detected for these unusual events. “But oddest of all such annoying manifestations,” reported Hilda, “was the disappearance of various articles. Things actually vanished from sight, right alongside where we would be sitting! Just there one minute and gone the next! Sometimes, never to be found again.” Having put up with these haunting experiences for many years, the Chances packed it all in and moved out of Upper Chichester. Joseph purchased an old farmhouse in northern Pennsylvania, where he was thinking that he, Hilda, and the children could enjoy some peace and quiet in his retirement. Boy, did he get that wrong!

“One night,” Hilda informed Adi-Kent, “I was sitting alone in the kitchen of the farmhouse, quietly writing letters when there came the sound of contented humming from one corner of the kitchen. I looked up, startled, and listened. Soon I could detect interspersed with the humming, the creaking of a rocking chair. I realized that someone was sitting and rocking in a chair by a far corner window. But it is interesting to note that the kitchen had been redesigned by the former occupants, and there was now no room for a chair in that spot. The window was blocked out by modern cabinets. The next day, I set out to discover if what I suspected had been true. I talked to a neighbor who had known the residents of previous years in that house. Sure enough, I heard that at one time before the cabinets had been put in, the farmwife had kept a rocker by that window and used to sit there frequently.

“Not long after, I heard the sounds again. This time I put down my pen and listened carefully. I was able to pick out the tune. It was an old lullaby. I have heard it from that corner many times now. I just sit quietly and enjoy it. It is so ‘homey’ and charming. It makes me smile to myself with contentment as I sit listening. One time I got up and walked as near to the spot as I could get. The tune stopped abruptly and an old air swept around me like an icy draught from a door opened suddenly. I realized with some remorse what I had done. She didn’t care to be interrupted or spied upon. ‘Whoopie!’ I said; ‘I’m sorry! Carry on!’ I returned to my chair and the humming started sweetly up again.” Hilda’s account above attests to the many manifestations that have taken place while she was in the house, albeit it does not recount all of them.

There is one particular haunting that really stood out in Hilda’s mind. She declared to Adi-Kent, “We found after buying the farmhouse that we needed more spare bedroom space as we have children and grandchildren with us often. So, we transformed a storage room on the second floor into a finished and lovely guest room. My husband built a closet in one corner as the room utterly lacked any cabinet space. In that corner, a bed had formerly stood, but to make room for the closet, we turned the bed and backed it against the other wall. The night my son arrived we were all sitting in the kitchen having coffee when suddenly we heard the bed above being pushed over the bare floor! My son looked at me, wonder in his face. Without thinking, I said, ‘She doesn’t like the way we placed the bed!’ ‘What are you talking about?’ he asked. I explained what I meant and told him all about the humming and rocking of the former farmwife.”

Hilda wrapped up her story: “Quickly he arose and we followed him up to the room. The bed had been turned. My son moved it back again against the far wall. I found myself looking upwards and carefully explaining, ‘Now you see; it must stay this way. There’s a closet in the corner now and there is no room for the bed there! It must stay here. Do you understand?’ The bed stayed there. It has never moved since.” Hilda then testified to Adi-Kent that other things still move around in the farmhouse, and most likely always would, as long as she was living there. Hilda even opined that no matter where she moved to, the ghosts would follow her there. Fortunately for Hilda, she has managed to adjust, adapting herself to the hauntings. In writing about Hilda’s accommodations with the unknown, Adi-Kent notes that “She (Hilda) enjoys these ‘spirit visits;’ and so why shouldn’t supernatural guests continue coming to that lady who is probably the ‘Hostess with the Mostest Ghosts’ in all the Delaware Valley?”

PALE-SKINNED, BLACK-EYED MAN Encountered on Walk Home

A Lincolnshire witness describes a strange encounter with two individuals as he was walking home. The pale-skinned man had long greasy hair and black eyes. The witness was freaked out!

I received the following account:

"Back in the summer of 1997 I had a terrifying experience with what I now know to be the phenomenon known as the black eyed people. At the time I had never heard of these beings and have been bothered by the experience for many years. It’s only just occurred to me to scour the internet to see if anyone else has ever witnessed anything like it as I knew that I couldn’t possibly be the only one that this has happened to.

My encounter differs from any that I have now discovered so far as they were not trying to communicate with me but was rather trying to keep away from me! Which believe me I now know that that is a good thing. Also it differs in the fact that my experience happened in broad daylight rather than late at night like the others I have read.

It was a hot sunny summer day in 1997. I was about 15 at the time and was out with my friends. I live in a small town called Grantham in Lincolnshire in the UK. While out with my friends I was not far from my home and decided to go home to grab a quick drink and my two friends accompanied me down to my house and waited outside whilst I went in to have a drink of water. I was quite thirsty so quickly drank 2 pints of water then went back outside. My friends had gone so I decided I would walk back to my friends house which was round the other side of of the block.

As I walked up the path to the street I happened to look about 5 houses down where my mum's friend lived. At the front of her garden she had a wooden fence at the time and a driveway on the furthest side of the garden there was also a wooden fence and just behind it there were two very large conifer trees that overhung the fence.

So looking down the street I saw two people backed up to the fence and the top of them was pushed back into the overhanging conifers so I only saw the 2 pairs of legs. Thinking that these were my friends messing around with me I started walking down towards them.

As I got closer to them I shouted out “come on you two, I can see you hiding there”. Thinking that they would come out laughing, I smiled to myself. But instead of coming out they managed to jump up into the conifers, over the fence and come out in my mum's friends garden! (at this point I was thinking how they could of done this because the foliage on the trees was pretty thick).

They didn’t stop there. They turned around towards the next garden and managed to climb over the 5 foot fence panel. As I watched them weirdly go over the panel I shouted again to stop messing around. I said that it was weird the way they got over the fence because it wasn’t a hop or a jump. I can only describe it as lizard like! That’s the only way that comes to my mind to describe it.

So I kept walking down the road and watched as they went over a 6ft gate into the next door's back garden. So I thought to myself I know what to do. I would carry on walking and catch them when they come out of the next garden. I picked up my pace carried on and caught sight of them in the next garden and stopped dead in my tracks as I looked in horror at what I’d been chasing!

They stood a few feet away from each other. One looked like a teenager. He was wearing the fashion of the time which was a blue puffa jacket which was zipped up. He was wearing the jogging bottoms that had studs up the legs which were called poppers. Trainers. And a baseball cap. I didn’t look at his face as the other one caught my attention nearly straight away.

This one was much older. Very pale skin. The top of his head was completely bald but around the side of his head he had long greasy black hair down to the middle of his back. He was wearing a long trench coat which went down to his ankles. He was wearing boots. His hands had long fingers that ended with sharp looking dirty nails. He had a big hooked nose and his eyes were pure black. It looked so evil. As my eyes met his it felt like time had stood still. Nothing was moving. Not a leaf. No breeze. Nobody else in the street. Silence. I couldn’t move as I was paralyzed with fear and terror. I knew it was staring at me into my eyes - maybe into my soul. I stood rooted to the spot for what felt like hours but must of been maybe 5 minutes. I broke the eye contact turned and ran for what felt like my life back to my house.

When I got indoors I sat down and cried like a big baby. I couldn’t console myself. It took me a while to compose myself and tell my parents what had happened. They didn’t know what to do. I sat down and drew what I had seen. I still have the drawing today. Not that I need it. That image is well and truly etched into my mind and I would probably draw the exact same one in another 30 years time.

I don’t know what this thing is. It definitely was not human. Over the years it has played on my mind bringing many questions and no answers. I’ve thought it was either alien or demon or any monster in-between.

Some of the questions it’s brought me apart from what is it. How did they climb the fence like they did? Why were they wearing large coats on a boiling hot day? After reading other accounts of them why were they out in the middle of the day on a normal street in a small town? Why did they run from me?

I hope no one ever has the experience of these black eyed beings and if you see one run for it.

P.S. It turned out that my friends went straight back home when they left me. I was quite angry with them for a while and told them what had happened for them to laugh at me and think I was joking.

MYSTERIOUS ANIMAL FOUND in 1905 New York City - What Was It?

I was searching the Library of Congress newspaper archives and came across the following post in the New York Tribune, dated April 30, 1905:

Excavators for Phipps Houses Scared by Strange Beast

When "Pat" Cochran, foreman of a gang of laborers at work in an excavation at 63rd-st. and Amsterdam-ave., fired a blast yesterday morning, he expected that, as usual, heavy pieces of rock would be thrown up from the bowels of the earth. The pieces of rock flew up all right, but then there appeared from amid the crumbling ruins of what a second previously had been a piece of solid granite a long, hairy monster, with grinning mouth and birdlike talons, and a tail that was not a tail, the like of which had never before seen seen by Cochran or his gang.

There were twenty laborers in the gang. Italian and Irish. They had all climbed out of the four foot excavation to await the explosion of the blast. When the explosion came they jumped into the hole again, and it was then that they discovered the beast.

Cochran was the first to see it. He couldn't help seeing it, for according to eye witnesses the extraordinary thing sprang directly at him as soon as the foreman reached the bottom of the hole. Cochran gave a yell. His subordinates scrambled out of the hole panic-stricken and took to their heels. The Italians crossed them-selves and muttered prayers. The Irish contingent to a man sought nerve bracers in a nearby saloon. Meanwhile the intrepid Cochran raised his shovel to meet the onslaught of "the thing." With all his strength he struck it a killing blow on the back of the head.

Then Cochran, white-faced and shuddering, touched "the thing" with a hand that trembled and satisfied himself that he had killed it. Cautiously he raised the three feet of hairy body on his shovel and bore it triumphantly into Forn's saloon, Amsterdam-ave. and 64th-st. There he placed the thing on the bar and tossed down a strong drink as quickly as the barkeeper could supply it.

George Forn, the proprietor of the saloon, examined the animal with awe and curiosity. "what d'yer call it?" he asked of Cochran. "Holymother, how should I know?" growled the foreman. "It is strange to me. Never have I seen such a thing till this day, God help me. Me old father in Ireland will not believe it when I write him."

"Will you sell it?" asked the saloonkeeper.

"Sell it," gasped Cochran. "It's yours, man, for a bottle of booze."

The deal was made and all yesterday "the thing" had a place of honor on the sideboard of the saloon, next to the cash register. News of it spread abroad and many curious persons came to see it. By 10 o'clock last night the saloonkeepr estimated eight hundred persons had visited his place. There was only one in all that crowd who attempted to give the monster a name. He was a l0th-ave. amateur naturalist. This man turned the thing over and examined it curiously. "It is undoubtedly some kind of sloth." he said "but a different variety to any I have ever seen or heard of."

A Tribune reporter pushed his way through the crowd before the bar last night and examined the monster at close range. He found an animal three feet in length, with a head something like that of a squirrel, fur bearing a close resemblance to a much advertised breakfast food, and the claws of a bird. The reporter felt of the thing's body, and beneath the fur coat were the ribs of a human being. The tail was hard as rock and only a quarter of an inch in length. A colored man who had emptied many glasses stood at a comer of the bar, surveying the strange thing with dilating eyes and at frequent intervals uttering bloodcurdling howls of terror.

Even stranger mystery than the monster's identity is how it came to be found in the 64th-st. excavation. The foundation of the first of the Henry Phipps model tenements is being dug there. If the thing is of the sloth family, its habitat must have been South America. How, then, came it here? The learned of Amsterdam-ave. spent last night asking themselves this question.

According to George Forn, the proprietor of the saloon, yesterday was not the first day the monster was seen. For the last three weeks colored men In the neighborhood have reported a strange thing roaming around the rocks of 64th-st. Until yesterday the stories of these colored men were scorned as idle tales.

One theory advanced last night was that the thing may have escaped from the Hagenbeck animal collection, which was exhibited at the St. Nicholas Rink, nearby, some years ago. Another theory advanced was that the monster was one of the wild creatures of Central Park, a relic of the time when the park was wild country.

Mr. Forn says he will donate the animal to the Museum of Natural History. Last night he was called up on the telephone and informed that one of the directors of the museum would visit the saloon and examine the animal, but up to a late hour this authority had not arrived. - New-York Tribune. MICHIGAN BIGFOOT: DIRE WARNING!

I received the following article from the author. It briefly gives a history of Bigfoot and some of the early controversies. Then the writer describes a personal encounter told to him. If you have a detailed article or encounter report and wish to have it published, feel free to forward it to me.

"By Mark Hearn - Bigfoot in Michigan? Most people, even if they think they exist, think of the large “Hairy Guy” as being a recluse of the Pacific Northwest. In actuality, the alleged creature has been spotted in every state of the Union except Hawaii. Tales of this creature are documented as far back as 1700. Native American culture tells of encounters with Bigfoot and how they have come to accept him as just another species that live amongst them. Bigfoot has been depicted in Native American stories and honored in their totem poles as something to be revered.

I have always been intrigued with the Bigfoot phenomenon. Back in 1967 or 1968, I first heard the headline story about Bigfoot. The story was about a film taken by an ex-rodeo rider named Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin. It all started while they were out horseback riding in Northern California and something spooked Patterson’s horse and he was thrown to the ground. While fumbling for his camera he starts shooting the film and it is very shaky. Once he has had a chance to compose himself and secure the camera you see a large, female creature, completely covered in fur, walking away from them. I believe it was a female because you can clearly see breasts on the animal.

There has been much controversy over this film. Some people say it is just a person in a monkey suit – simply a hoax, while others believe it to be a true Bigfoot sighting- stating that something like this would be too difficult to replicate. At the time of the filming, costume designers from Disney Studios saw the film and believed there was no way to duplicate a costume that could even come near what was on the film. The muscles were clearly defined as the creature moved and they felt they could never duplicate something like that in a costume. It was at this point in time that many others came out of the woodwork and told tales of their encounters. This is when I got hooked!

My personal story starts when my wife and I were vacationing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula last September in the town of Munising. Highway M28 runs through Munising and it is right on Lake Superior. This area is brimming with vast forests, trails, crystal clear lakes, and many, many waterfalls

We stopped into one of the local pubs one night and this is where I was fortunate enough to meet a local there named Laurie. Laurie was waiting on us and we were chit-chatting back and forth when before I knew it, the conversation somehow turned to Bigfoot. She mentioned that she had seen a Bigfoot, and had had several encounters with the beast. Right away that caught my attention. Laurie certainly did not seem to be looking for attention, or publicity or at all delusional. She was very excited about the topic, but also very matter-of-fact when she spoke about her experiences with Bigfoot. I will repeat the story of her first encounter in 1983

Here is her story as it happened, which she has given me permission to re-tell.

It was approximately 12:30 PM on a hot muggy July night in Munising, Michigan. Laurie and her companion decided to go to the lookout high on a bluff overlooking highway M28. They were sitting on top of the hood of their car chatting and passing time. After about a half hour Laurie hears a noise off to her right side about 25 yards or so away. That’s when they hear, and feel a loud chesty growl/ roar emanating from that direction. She said you could feel the vibration of whatever it was roaring at them. It was nothing that either one of them had ever experienced before. The sheer terror of what was happening made every muscle in their body instantly freeze up making it difficult to even breathe. As they sat there frozen in time, the creature started to jump up and down on the pavement. She said it was so loud that you could hear the skin on its feet slapping on the pavement and all the while making this God-awful shriek that was directed at both of them. It was almost like this thing was protesting them being there in its territory.

About this time Laurie’s companion pushed her off the hood of the car and said, “GO GO GO”. As she jumped into the car and started to leave she realized that her companion was not inside the car but was stuck outside the door being dragged alongside down the hill. At this point, she stopped the car so that he could jump in. After getting in they could hear this thing, whatever it was, crashing through the wood and they could hear it pick up and slam down a nearby tree. Then it moved on down the hill away from where they were. After the shock of what they had witnessed they both were shaking and started crying, realizing how close they came to potential danger.

After they had a chance to calm down, Laurie came to the conclusion that they had been approached by a Bigfoot. There was no doubt in her mind as to what it was that had paid them a visit that evening. She also said in regards to her encounter, “It could have killed us but it didn’t. It just wanted us out of the way”. Come to find out at a later date there are caves below that bluff but they were further down the hill on Lake Superior.

As I said, this was the first of several encounters that Laurie has had over the years. I will no doubt tell the story of her next encounter at a later time. I thank Laurie for her courage to come forward with these stories."

FLYING SERPENTS, DRAGONS & HUMANS: Is There Any Connection?

What are 'flying serpents/dragons' and what connection, if any, are there to humans?

The Egyptian tales of flying snakes captured the curiosity of the Greek historian Herodotus (ca 460 BC). These winged drakontes were said to live under frankincense (Boswellia) trees in the Arabian Desert. To gather the incense, the Arabians burned styrax (resin of the Liquidambar tree) because the smoke drove the winged snakes away. Herodotus described the flying reptiles as small with variegated markings, shaped like a water snake but with wing-like membranes, like bat wings.

Drakon: Dragon Myth and Serpent Cult in the Greek and Roman Worlds[image error] describes humanoids (Titans) that repeatedly interact with drakontes, both fighting against them and indeed alongside them, as masters and mistresses of them. Amongst males Apollo and Heracles are noteworthy in this regard, but it is the females that stand out more, notably Athene and Medea.

Flying serpents and snakes are also mentioned in The Hebrew Bible and the Book of Mormon, sent by God to control humans. The Book of Enoch talks about the Watchers...supposed Angels dispatched to Earth to watch over the humans. They soon begin to lust for human women and, at the prodding of their leader Samyaza, defect en masse to illicitly instruct humanity and procreate among them. The offspring of these unions are the Nephilim, savage giants who pillage the earth and endanger humanity. Samyaza and his associates further taught their human charges arts and technologies such as weaponry, cosmetics, mirrors, sorcery, and other techniques that would otherwise be discovered gradually over time by humans, not foisted upon them all at once. Eventually, God allows a Great Flood to rid the earth of the Nephilim but first sends Uriel to warn Noah so as not to eradicate the human race. The Watchers are bound "in the valleys of the Earth" until Judgment Day. Is there a connection between the Flying Serpents / Dragons and those rebellious 'Angels' who survived the deluge and were made to hide in the dark recesses of the Earth?

In more modern times, these beasts are still seen and reported. Here is an interesting vintage cryptid account:

Fiery Flying Serpent

Mr. M. N. Ward, a gentleman connected with the mission at Pedang, on the coast of Sumatra, has published a well attested account of a flying serpent seen by the narrator. He saw the animal fly from a tree at the height of some fifty or sixty feet, to another tree some forty fathoms distant. It supports itself in the air by drawing its belly, widening itself and forming an arch as far as the ribs extend, and forces itself ahead with the rapidity of a bird, by sinuous motions, like a serpent swimming.

There is nothing in the reptile which bears any resemblance to a wing. Its length is about four feet, and bite is dangerous. Another description of flying or darting serpents, is described by the natives, whose bite is instant death. It leaps or flies only about half the distance of the other, and makes none of the sinuous waving motion in the air. This discovery, of the truth of which there can be no doubt, shows the portion of Scripture which speaks of "burning fiery serpents" had a literal fact for the basis of its figurative language, though the species is now extinct in the region spoken of in the Bible. What a terrible scourge must be such an animal. Give us the sterility of the frozen, rather than the fertility of the torrid zones with such drawbacks. Polar bears are more agreeable than flying serpents. - Holly Springs Gazette (Holly Springs, Mississippi), August 04, 1841

On September 25, 2001, a 19-year-old driving along Pennsylvania’s Route 119 reported what he described as “flags flapping in a thunderstorm” coming from above his car. When he looked up, he was astounded to see what looked like a bird with a 3–4.5 meter (10–15 ft) wingspan and a strange, elongated head flying above him.

Over the next few months, two more witnesses would report seeing similar creatures in Greensville and Erie County, Pennsylvania. The reports were reminiscent of a string of sightings that took place in Texas in 1976 and 1982. In all cases, the creature described sounded remarkably similar to a Pterosaur. The sightings in Texas even occurred near to where the fossil of Quetzalcoatlus northropi, a large Pterosaur of the Late Cretaceous, was first discovered. Interestingly, these “Pterosaur” sightings seemed to occur close to each other in waves. That suggests that people were really seeing something...but what?

In Africa, the native people of the Congo, Zambia, and several other regions speak of Kongomoto. It is described as featherless with smooth skin, a beak full of teeth, and a wingspan of 1–2 meters (4–7 ft). On the Gold Coast, British explorers in the 1920s heard tales of the Susabonsam, which grew to the height of a man and had thin, tenebrous wings like a bat. The truly large sightings of Kongamoto could be a surviving group of Quetzalcoatlus northropi, which, at the height of a giraffe, was the largest flying animal to have ever lived. Of course, they could also be condors, various storks, or other large birds seen in silhouette—or they might only be legends or outright hoaxes. But in 1988, Professor Roy Mackal led an expedition into the deserts of Namibia. He was investigating intriguing reports of a creature with a 9-meter (30 ft) wingspan seen gliding through the air. Eyewitness reports stated that it would appear at dusk, flying between two hills. Some even claimed that the winged monstrosity glowed in the dark. While the mission was unsuccessful, one expedition member claimed to have seen it from a distance, describing it as “a giant glider shape, black with white markings.”

Then there was an encounter in Powys, Wales in March 2001 around 7:30 PM...as reported in 'Strange' Magazine.

A British biologist and a few colleagues were conducting some research in the area after being notified by a local of "something" strange that was witnessed a month earlier. As they stood at the edge of some woods by a quarry they suddenly looked upon an extraordinary entity. Measuring 3 ft. or so in length, it resembled a serpentine dragon with four short limbs, but its head was shaped very like that of a sea horse, and it was airborne...undulating and wriggling as it flew about 10 ft above the surface of the quarry in a wide circle.

They were unable to recall seeing any wings, but it had a long tail that ended in a pair of horizontal, whale-like flukes. The entity was green in color and shimmered somewhat, but appeared solid, not translucent or ethereal. They watched it for 3-4 minutes, at a distance of approximately 50 ft, before it finally vanished into one of the numerous caves and large crevices pitting the quarry. The biologist had the distinct impression while watching this creature that it was deliberately seeking to keep them at bay, warning them off from approaching further into its territory.

A 'dinosaur-like bird' was reported near Murmansk, Russia in Summer 1995 at 8:30 PM by St. Petersburg, Russia's state-controlled newspaper.

Two men were riding a car on a local road outside of Murmansk. Despite being in the evening it was still light out. The road was about 4 meters wide and was asphalt and surrounded by fields and tall canes on both sides. The road was straight and there was excellent visibility.

At approximately 15-20 meters in front of the car, a strange creature was seen running across the road. The creature looked bird-like and it was visibly huge. The entity had long legs, about 2 meters long, dark feathers along the back, and an odd-shaped body. Unfortunately, the witnesses were unable to see any additional details, but discerned that the strange 'bird' was similar to a 'running reptile.'

They stopped the car but realized that it was useless to look for the strange entity amid the dense cane fields. One of the witnesses, while reading a book on dinosaurs, found a picture that depicted almost exactly what he and his friends had seen. The image was later identified as a dinosaur from the Order Ornithischia.

Local naturalists stated that no species of animal fitting that description lives in the region.

In the book Native American Prophecies: History, Wisdom and Startling Predictions[image error] there is an excellent reference to 'Deganawidah: The Two Serpents':

When Deganawidah was leaving the Indians in the Bay of Quinte in Ontario, he told the Indian people that they would face a time of great suffering. They would distrust their leaders and the principles of peace of the League, and a great white serpent was to come upon the Iroquois, and that for a time it would intermingle with the Indian serpent as a friend.

This serpent would in time become so powerful that it would attempt to destroy the Indian, and the serpent is described as choking the life's blood out of the Indian people. Deganawidah told the Indians that they would be in such a terrible state at this point that all hope would seem to be lost, and he told them that when things looked their darkest a red serpent would come from the north and approach the white serpent, which would be terrified, and upon seeing the red serpent he would release the Indian, who would fall to the ground almost like a helpless child, and the white serpent would turn all its attention to the red serpent. The bewilderment would cause the white serpent to accept the red one momentarily.

The white serpent would be stunned and take part of the red serpent and accept him. Then there is a heated argument and a fight. And then the Indian revives and crawls toward the land of the hilly country, and then he would assemble his people together, and they would renew their faith and the principles of peace that Deganawidah had established.

There would at the same time exist among the Indians a great love and forgiveness for his brother, and in this gathering would come streams from all over -- not only the Iroquois but from all over -- and they would gather in this hilly country, and they would renew their friendship. And Deganawidah said they would remain neutral in this fight between the white and red serpents.

At the time they were watching the two serpents licked in this battle, a great message would come to them, which would make them ever so humble, and when they become that humble, they will be waiting for a young leader, an Indian boy, possibly in his teens, who would be a choice seer. Nobody knows who he is or where he comes from, but he will be given great power, and would be heard by thousands, and he would give them the guidance and the hope to refrain from going back to their land and he would be the accepted leader.

And Deganawidah said that they will gather in the land of the hilly country, beneath the branches of an elm tree, and they should burn tobacco and call upon Deganawidah by name when facing the darkest hours, and he will return. Deganawidah said that as the choice seer speaks to the Indians that number as the blades of grass, and he would be heard by all at the same time, and as the Indians are gathered watching the fight, they notice from the south a black serpent coming from the sea, and he is described as dripping with salt water, and as he stands there, he rests for a spell to get his breath, all the time watching to the north to the land where the white and red serpents are fighting.

Deganawidah said that the battle between the white and the red serpents opened very slowly but would then become so violent that the mountains would crack and the rivers would boil and the fish would turn up on their bellies. He said that there would be no leaves on the trees in that area. There would be no grass, and that strange bugs and beetles would crawl from the ground and attack both serpents, and he said that a great heat would cause the stench of death to sicken both serpents. And then, as the boy seer is watching this fight, the red serpent reaches around the back of the white serpent and pulls from him a hair which is carried toward the south by a great wind into the waiting hands of the black serpent, and as the black serpent studies this hair, it suddenly turns into a woman, a white woman who tells him things that he knows to be true but he wants to hear them again.

When this white woman finishes telling these things, he takes her and gently places her on a rock with great love and respect, and then he becomes infuriated at what he has heard, so he makes a beeline for the north, and he enters the battle between the red and white serpents with such speed and anger that he defeats the two serpents, who have already been battle weary.

When he finishes, he stand on the chest of the white serpent, and he boasts and puts his chest out like he¹s the conqueror, and he looks for another serpent to conquer. He looks to the land of the hilly country and then sees the Indian standing with his arms folded and looking ever so noble that he knows that this Indian is not the one to fight. The next direction that he will face will be eastward and at that time he will be momentarily blinded by a light that is many times brighter than the sun.

The light will be coming from the east to the west over the water, and when the black serpent regains his sight, he becomes terrified and makes a beeline for the sea.

He dips into the sea and swims away in a southerly direction, and shall never again be seen by the Indians.

The white serpent revives, and he too sees the light, and he makes a feeble attempt to gather himself and go toward that light.

A portion of the white serpent refuses to remain but instead makes its way toward the land of the hilly country, and there he will join the Indian People with a great love like that of a lost brother.

The rest of the white serpent would go to the sea and dip into the sea and would be lost out of sight for a spell. Then suddenly the white serpent would appear again on the top of the water and he would be slowly swimming toward the light. Deganawidah said that the white serpent would never again be troublesome to the Indian People.

The red serpent would revive and he would shiver with great fear when he sees that light. He would crawl to the north and leave a bloody, shaky trail northward, and he would never be seen again by the Indians. Deganawidah said as this light approaches that he would be that light, and he would return to his Indian People, and when he returns, the Indian People would be a greater nation than they had ever been before.

Going beyond terra firma the Alpha Draconians are possibly the oldest known Reptilian race in our galaxy. All Reptilian species are thought to be genetic hybrids and manipulations from an original race called the Winged Ciakar. A specific description from an alleged witness states:

Alpha Draconians can be huge in stature, growing up to 15-20 feet tall and can weigh up to a ton. Some can parallel the dinosaurs Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptor in appearance...while others relate closely to legendary Dragons / Dracos, including wing structures for flying. They have black leathery brown scale bellies, with multiple abdomens. There are whiskers along their chin and jaw line. They possess a mating claw and multiple tongues.

They lay eggs and what is called a battle hormone is used to accelerate the birthing process. They are a duality. This is why ancestral females did not participate in war, because if they did, there wouldn’t be others to help with the eggs and to secrete this hormone.

Stronger young females were expected to defeat and kill older and weaker leaders in ritual combat.

The Ciakar race is ruled and managed by genetic lineage. Genetic lineage always follows the mother, because you always know who the mother is, you don’t always know who the father is. In that particular line the females have all the say.

Ruled by the monarchy of a queen genetic lineage they are one of the most powerful races in the galaxy. They have some of the greatest military might that has ever been seen in the galaxy and most of the clan members are zealots and will do anything for the glory of their clans, of their lineage.

They have been the chief enemy of all human races in this galaxy in past conflicts. Again, we are talking about hydrogen breathers vs. oxygen breathers. They have three spinal columns. One spine is located ventrally near the stomach; the other two are located dorsally on the left and on the right of the Ciakars body.

Spinal columns join near the dorsal of the geometric center at the extreme posterior of the trunk to form a long and very powerful tail. There are different theories concerning the Alpha Draconians...but for the most part, they seem to subject control over some of the other alien races. Their aggressive ways and scientific abilities suggest that they are the most dominant of the Reptilian races.

TWO VEHICLES STALL After Cylindrical UFO Passes Overhead on Pennsylvania Highway

On July 3, 2024, I received a UFO/UAP report from researcher Jim Brown in Fayette County. Jim has been a research associate of mine for many years. Jim is a very scientifically oriented investigator, and he designs and builds some high-tech instrumentation that is useful in investigating various types of anomalous activity. Jim has investigated numerous UFO/UAP and cryptid incidents around Fayette County. There has been a long history of anomalous incidents that have reportedly taken place, especially along the section of the Chestnut Ridge that passes through that area.

Jim made me aware that he was investigating an interesting UFO/UAP incident that had taken place on July 2, 2024, on a busy highway not far from Smithfield, PA. Two vehicles driving along that roadway had both stalled at the same time as a solid cylindrical wingless object passed low overhead. Jim was able to arrive at the scene while both vehicles were still without power and was able to conduct an initial interview with both drivers.

The following is the report that Jim Brown has now completed on the case.

Object Sighted Near Smithfield, Pennsylvania

Date:7-02-24 Time: Approx 11:15 AM Name / Contact information withheld by confidentiality level

Weather: Mostly clear, some haze in the distance over the mountains. Temp: upper eighties.

The witness (“John”, not his real name) contacted me via the website and reported the following description of what he encountered. He was driving south on Rt 119, about one mile south of Smithfield when his car stalled out. He said it was like he just turned it off. At the same time, he saw a large black object overhead. His best estimate put it at about three hundred feet above him and very large. It seemed to hover for just a few seconds then moved off toward the mountains which put it behind some trees that were over the highway. He lost sight of it at this point. He had his camera on the seat beside him but didn’t have time to get a picture before it shot away. He could make out the object through the tree branches where it again had stopped and was hovering. He took his camera and got out to try to get to a spot where he could get a better view.

About two hundred yards ahead there was an open field which allowed for a better view. By now the object had moved again and was now about a mile away. It would hover for a few seconds then move again. The general direction was east, which put it farther away each time it stopped. He took a few pictures with his iPhone, but the distance showed only a dark object with no detail. (The pictures have been sent to me to see if I could enhance them in any way.)

John then returned to his car and noticed another motorist stopped behind him. He went back to see if this guy had seen what he just witnessed. The second guy (“Joe”, not his real name.) had also experienced car trouble and he too saw the large object. His view was also obstructed but saw enough to give a description. The two witnesses compared notes, and both saw essentially the same thing. It was at this point John, who lives near Smithfield and knew I was investigating these things, contacted me via my website. I happened to be online at the time and was made aware of what they saw and the issues with their vehicles. I messaged back and asked about the symptoms. Both said the cars would not start and said the batteries appeared dead.

Since their location was only about three miles from me, I grabbed a few things and met them on 119. By now it was about 12:00 PM. When I arrived, I examined both vehicles for any obvious evidence. Neither showed any residue or any other obvious issues, I checked for residual magnetic effects, and none were found. John said right before his car died his radio became “staticky”. Joe said his radio was not on, consequently he could not confirm the static John heard. I checked both radios and they were functioning normally when I examined the cars. At this point, I suggested they try again to start their cars. Both started after a few tries and ran normally. The second witness had already called his auto club, and a tow was on its way. He called them back and canceled the service request.

The second witness, Joe, was not from this area but gave the following account of what he could make out through the trees:

“It was dark gray, and almost reminded me of a piece of pipe that was hollow inside. There was some stuff inside the end, but I couldn’t make out what it was. The thing moved ahead of me and stopped over a car that was in front of me. That car stopped too. It was maybe one thousand feet ahead of where I stopped. I couldn’t get my car going and it looked like the car in front of me was having the same trouble I was. I could see the object seemed to be over the other car, but I couldn’t tell what was going on up there. I just knew something caused my car to stall out and I needed to get it off the road, so I didn’t cause an accident, I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the object in the sky.” (The car he was watching ahead of him was John’s car.)

I questioned this motorist to try to get more details, but his vantage point was not that good. Like John, his view was partially obstructed by tree limbs over the road. He estimated the object to be about fifty feet long and ten feet in diameter, or as he put it, “A piece of pipe that size.” The second witness (Joe) was from out of state and had to keep going. I did obtain contact information and promised to keep him informed as the case progressed.

I had a preliminary description from John who was stopped. He made a sketch of the object as he observed it through the trees. This sketch will be made a part of this report as it progresses. John described the object as a cylinder about 10 – 15 feet across and about thirty feet long. He said it was about three times longer than it was wide. In the end, he could see there was some kind of equipment or pointed objects. There was also a haze around the end of the object that partially obscured his view inside. The haze was a pale green fog that seemed to partly obstruct a clear view of the end of the object. He could see only one end; the other was pointing away from him.

John’s contact information was obtained, and I took a couple pictures of the area for background and to create a computer rendering of the object in conjunction with an upcoming follow-up interview with John. The case is still active, and no conclusions have been made at this time.

Interview with John. 7-12,24: John provided a few more details related to the object. He stated it moved sideways not in the direction it was facing when it relocated. When we discussed the reference the second witness made to a pipe, John stated that was true, but that it was also not round; he stated it was somewhat flattened. I decided to work with John and attempt to recreate what he saw. I also had John’s original photos and tried to enhance them, but the distance and contrast did not allow for any detail to be recovered from those images. I also took a couple pictures of the scene where John saw the object looking through the tree limbs.

I also made contact by phone with the second witness and again reviewed the sighting from his perspective. The results indicated few changes in detail from his original comments as stated above. He reported no new effects, and he had his car checked by his mechanic who found nothing abnormal nor any reason for it to stall due to mechanical issues.

July 29, 2024: Computer illustration is completed. John reviewed it and is satisfied that what was seen is a good representation of what he saw that day. Working with John’s original sketches and the description of the object we used a paint program to create a more life-like image of the object as John saw it. This image is attached to the report here.

I also have John’s photos he took of the actual object on the day of his sighting, however, due to distance and resolution no detail could be extracted from the images. The object simply appears as an elongated spherical dot over the horizon.
