Valkyrie of Voltana

I recently found the following account:

Nestled in the scenic Spanish Pyrenees Mountain Range, the tiny rural village of Boltaña (also apparently referred to as Voltana) would be the last place that one would expect to be plagued with supernatural happenings - and yet, in June of 1905 - the town apparently became home for an ostensibly-angelic flying humanoid. A newspaper called the Indianapolis Sunday Star reported on the miraculous events on the 25th of November that same year, and it is from this source that the bizarre story gained wider attention.

As of the article's time of writing, the entity had appeared to the villagers five times since the beginning of June - and was described as 'a woman, robed in white, with long clinging draperies'. There was apparently no clearly visible flying apparatus of any kind - the Star article specifically stated that there were no wings or 'any balloon'. It repeatedly flew over the town of Boltaña in Northern Spain, leaving the population of the Pyrenees district 'in a state of religious fervour and excitement' as the aerial anomaly slowly floated over the town. Three of the five times that it was sighted, it was moving against a strong wind - which was 'blowing either from the south or the southwest'.

On the fifth occasion that the airborne enigma manifested, there were said to be 'scores of persons standing on the mountainside, scores in the streets of the town, and men from their homes and their fields knelt where they were and watched the flight'. The angelic anomaly would come from the North each time, seemingly hailing from the direction of Mount Perdu - 'one of the highest peaks of the Pyrenees' - before disappearing among the peaks of the Sierra de Guara to the Southwest.

A British mining expert apparently investigated the bizarre series of incidents, and he confirmed that over 240 witnesses had reported seeing what he termed as a 'mystic figure'. At least one villager claimed to have also heard joyful singing (or a sound very much like it) as the feminine phantom flew above. Although one might expect such an entity to bring nothing but bliss and a sense of security to the people in its shadow, this was evidently not always the case. For example, a mule-driver by the name of Pedro Pobrado was said to have 'rushed into the church frightened almost out of his senses, and threw himself before the priest praying and imploring him to give absolution, declaring that the end of the world was coming and that the warning angel was flying through the sky'.

I am not quite sure what to make of this case from a skeptical point of view. It seems like there are two possible explanations for this event - either the witnesses are all outright lying, or they really did see something. What that something was is anyone's guess, but I would like to offer the following observation. Modern alien visitations often involve the unearthly intruders offering the witnesses visions or dire warnings of the coming apocalypse. This seems to be the same reaction that the entity in this case evoked in Mr. Pobrado, and whether this was just due to his personal religious devotion or something more is still up for debate.

Bigfoot Confronts Hunter in Sumter National Forest

I recently received a telephone call from a witness in Spartansburg, South Carolina. He states that he was confronted by a 8 1/2 ft. Bigfoot while he was preparing to go duck hunting at Sumter National Forest in November 2015.

It was approximately 5:00 AM and still dark. The witness was removing his hunting equipment from the trunk of his vehicle. His back was facing the trail, when he heard a low guttural growling sound emanating behind him. He stood up straight and turned. This is when he noticed a tall dark mass standing on the trail. He grabbed his flashlight and observed a 8 1/2 ft. hairy human-like being, that he referred to as a Bigfoot. The being was looking directly at him and growling. He was less than 50 ft. from the creature.

The witness had his shotgun with him, but realized that bird shot would probably not offer much protection. Fortunately, the Bigfoot slowly turned and walked back into the swamping area of the forest. I asked if he noticed any odor, which he stated that he hadn't. The witness has been searching for the Bigfoot since that encounter.

The witness told me that he has been told about other encounters in the area. Lon

Multiple Bigfoot Sightings in Madison County, NY

I recently received a telephone call from 'DV' who described over 45 years of personal Bigfoot encounters in a specific area in Madison County, NY.

The first encounter, and the subsequent incidents, were in Sullivan Park in Chittenango, NY. The initial encounter, during the summer of 1972, involved a 7ft male Bigfoot who confronted DV while he was walking through the park. The Bigfoot tossed a large rock at DV, which landed at DV's feet. The Bigfoot stepped out of the bush and walked onto the trail. DV said that he picked up the rock and dropped it. The Bigfoot seemed confused, turned and quickly walked away.

DV says that he had several other lesser sightings and encounters over the next 45 years, included a few with multiple beings.

The last incident occurred in July 2017. DV stated that he was on a trail near the lake. He was there with a few other people, when they witnessed a trio of Bigfoot standing by the edge of the trees. It looked like a large male, smaller female and a juvenile. The trio quickly moved into the woods and disappeared.

DV believes that there are a few Bigfoot groups within the park and surrounding area. He said that he has talk to a few other witnesses over the years, including an encounter in the 1990s where the eyewitness had several stones thrown at her. DV acted very sincere, but it seems like a lot of sightings by an individual. I'm presenting the information as it was told to me. Lon

Witness Heard JAL Flight 1628 UFO Incident

“I lived up in Juneau, Alaska at the time of JAL flight 1628 UFO incident. I was listening to my shortwave radio as Capt. Terauchi made his radio calls to Anchorage Tower. I listened as a couple of jet interceptors flew out to get a visual on the object. After the radio reception went dead I called Anchorage International Airport and spoke with a person who knew what I was talking about. I asked if I could be sent transcripts of the incident. No problem. Within a few days a package came to my door that had the report that was about 60 pages long (the entire investigation). It also came with two audio cassette tapes of the incident, as well. I still have that paper report. As for the cassette tapes, I may still have them somewhere. If they hushed the story up then I must have gotten the material before everything was confiscated. Later I ran an advertisement in the classified section of the National Enquirer, I offered the transcripts for sale. One of the buyers was the National Enquirer. They then put the story on the front page of their magazine. Yeah it's for sale.” GreatScott

“I saw a UFO on December 31st, 2014 at 10:27pm. You never forget the date and time of when you see something you never thought you would see. A big black triangle, the size of maybe two NBA basketball courts. Reddish orange lights on the 3 points. There were 4 separate orbs the same reddish orange color, two in the front and two in the back like they were escorting it. There's a canal that runs behind my house, and it made a turn over this canal and I could see the bottom of the craft. It was giving off so much heat it was shimmering. I live about half a mile from I-95, so I can hear cars and trucks on the highway all day and night. There was no sound at all. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. No insects, no cars or trucks on the interstate, no fireworks, no people yelling or anything. Complete quiet. Then as it was going along the canal, the lights went out and all sound came back. All I could hear was my neighbor that lives behind me on the other side of the canal saying to his wife 'What in the absolute F was that?!" every few months since then I see just the orbs.” showdown561

Braunig Lake, Bexar County, Texas, USA “Back in '89, my brother and I were fishing in our boat at Braunig Lake in south Bexar County, Texas. The radio was saying something is in the sky in the southeast. We looked southeast and saw nothing. About 30 minutes later my brother goes there it is. It was right there by the power plant and like all of the workers were out on the cat walks watching it. One guy had a VCR camera filming it. The thing was 200 feet maybe more across and was a blue ball with white swirls on it like clouds. It was there so long that the workers went back in and we quit looking too. An F-15 came from Randoff AFB and got about 1/2 mile from it and it left - went out of the atmosphere around Casterville in about 4 seconds with out making a sound - UFO. If the Fighter would have fired at it with his Stingers it could have flew circles around them. Do not believe me, there was alot of witnesses, it was on the news that night but their photo was from town and was just a ball of light. My brother and I should have started up the boat and got closer. We were at the dividing jetties at the end of it. It was at left of the gas tower and only the height of the building. We talked our self into it was a big balloon until it took off. The fighter was I think an F-15. It had 4 stingers on it. It against the UFO would be like racing a modern car against a horse and buggy. It moved in 4 seconds from the lake to out of the atmosphere. Taking the highway its about 35 miles, but it traveled a straight bee line - not a peep out of it. It did not make sonic boom and the guy with the camcorder had went back to work when it took off.” jimmy wilkinson

UFO OVER KENDALLVILLE 1979 - Kendallville, Indiana, USA “One year, I believe it was 1979, when we were returning home from church one night just before it got dark. We were together as a family talking. The boys I have are ages 5 + 3 and 1/2 and my husband, we were driving on Interstate 3 just outside of Kendallville, Indiana going up on Old 3 when I noticed what looked like, possibly, a helicopter. I seen a round shape, yellow blue green and white lights under it. 'Look boys, there's a helicopter!' I told them, as I rolled the window down so we could see it better and hear it. I told my husband to pull over so the boys could see this fascinating equipment. I got the window down and that's when my husband pulled over. We stared up at it. It was triangular shaped. It was right on top of our car maybe seven cars stacked on top of each other. Some of the cars around us just kept going. I said, 'It must be on silent mode.' That was true, if we even had anything like that. Like Blue Thunder, the item shot off to the northwest of us hovered over a farm for about 25 minutes. Then we watched as it shot off to the west. My husband and I looked at each other not knowing what we had just seen. I'm thinking nobody's going to believe this. My son kept asking me where it went. I told him it flew away. I told my pastor about it. I called him and asked him and he said that the UFO could have been a 'Vision by Satan'. I know what I saw and what I saw was what I explained, a dark huge round object like that of a huge helicopter. It had blue yellow and red lights nothing like I never saw in '79 but now since then I have seen lights like this in machines.” kat CARVING

No Date - Reading, Pennsylvania, USA “I seen a huge UFO in Pennsylvania it was awesome! I always wanted to see one ever since my dad said he saw one in the Dominican Republic when he was younger. I kinda didn’t believe that he seen it but then I said, Why would he make it up? My encounter was weird. I was coming of the highway at like 2:00 AM. It was right by the Reading Airport. It was pitch black around the area, no lights, while I was trying to get off the exit to Lancaster Avenue. I looked to the sky and saw a bright light and I said, 'Oh, sh-t that airplane is bright' but it came closer and closer and got bigger then I noticed it was not a plane. I was SHOCKEDDD!!! No sound. It was like a large disk the size of a football field. It had two red beams on the bottom and lots of bright boxed LED white lights on the bottom, as well. I’m so shocked how the sirens of the airport went off and this thing went lower and went sideways and disappeared. That was my encounter. I’m not saying I saw an alien. I’m saying, I saw a weird UFO and it was definitely not a plane. I was not the only one in the car that saw it. My 6 year old daughter at the time witnessed it and so did my husband. He just doesn’t talk about it because he thinks people might think we're nuts but whether people believe me or not I don't care, at least I seen it.” Luvly C

Bigfoot / Wolf Hybrid Encounter in Northern Michigan

I recently found the following account:

This happened when I was about 7 years old to my uncle. He's no longer with us and I want to share his story.

Growing up, I lived in Northern Michigan on 5,000 acres of farm/ranch land that backed up into state land. Nothing but miles of forest and pasture could be seen. Needless to say it made us pretty tough and it takes a lot to spook us. We are all avid hunters, fisherman and outdoorsman. Being the only girl I was raised as a tomboy and I'm just the same.

My uncle went off to join the military, becoming a senior NCO in a prominent special forces division of the US Navy. He was 6'4, built like a wrestler, obviously skilled in survival tactics and nothing rattled him.

He was home on leave and went out hunting as it was deer season. I remember him coming in the house shaking and crying saying he saw something in the woods. My uncle never cried. He was tough as nails and would tear someone to shreds before he let them make him cry. My grandmother tried to get him to make sense but he kept saying he saw Bigfoot mixed with a wolf. My granny immediately got my grandfather and he rounded up the rest of the guys hunting...my dad, a few male cousins, my uncle (who was still terrified but went because he didn't want to be labeled a chicken), got all their shotguns and ammunition and saddled the horses to go clear the woods. Apparently they were aware of the dogman but I was blissfully young and ignorant. They told me to stay inside and for no reason was I to step outside of our house until they returned. I had never heard my dad or grandfather so serious, so I hid in my room.

Sunset comes and they still aren't back. I'm really worried at this point because they never stayed in the woods until after dark. Shortly I heard the sound of the horses running to the barn and their voices. I was so relieved. They looked troubled when they came into the house but didn't say anything, probably to not spook me. At dinner my dad laid down the law I was no longer allowed to play outside or go to the barns alone. I had to have my grandfather with me at all times. Of course I was upset by this and felt my independence was being taken away, but I obeyed. The next morning my dad and grandfather taught me how to shoot. I knew it was serious.

I overheard the adults talking the next night. Apparently there were tracks where my uncle had his sighting, bigger than any wolf could make but they were definitely dog tracks. As I said before we are avid outdoorsman and hunters we can identify tracks easily but these couldn't be identified. About 8 ft up in a tree were claw marks. No Michigan bear could make those. We also found claw marks of about the same height on multiple trees throughout our property. There were cattle mutilated and not in the way a coyote or bear would and it lasted that whole winter. We lost about 30-40 cattle that winter, all of them mutilated. All with the same wolf/dog tracks in the snow.

I really feel like this experience changed my uncle. Who knows. He did multiple tours in the Middle East for Desert Storm and OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) before he committed suicide. After that experience though he was never the same. He went from not ever drinking to never seeing him without a bottle of Jack and his eyes were always haunted. He changed his personality and never went out in the woods again. He quit hunting and he eventually just quit coming home to visit on leave. He didn't even come home for my dad's funeral 2 years later. It was heartbreaking to see him deteriorate the way he did. I truly believe he saw something out there and it ultimately killed him - BBB

Bizarre Creature Crossed the Road

This happened when I lived in a children's home in a more remote part of the town in Finland. It was at the start of winter, around the end of December 2017. The house is located in the woods, but has many houses close to each other. I had to walk to a side road in the woods to smoke my cigarette, since it wasn't allowed to smoke on the property. It was already dark, but the road was dimly lit by the lights of one of the houses. This is the part I always felt uneasy walking. I was almost back at the house when I started feeling really uneasy again, but this time it was intense, I felt something watching me.

I heard a branch break and some leaves crunching and saw this f*cked up looking thing walking from the woods over the road and back to the woods on the other side of the road. It was pale/greyish, on all fours, but the legs were weird, like humanoid but at the same time the knees bent like a dogs. The front legs were mostly same but not so bent. The body was slim and the back was kinda arched, like upwards? The head/face is so hard to describe, it was kinda humanoid too, but had no human features or ears. I focused mainly on the legs because they looked so wrong. It didn't make any sounds or didn't smell like anything. I was close enough to see details but not close enough to smell if it smelled like anything closer. I stood there, my heart was pounding and I wanted to scream and run home but I couldn't because the thing was on the way. It was pretty slow too, like the average human speed when walking. After it was gone I ran back home and told a friend who told me he always felt uneasy there. What could it be? I really want some answers. I tried to draw it, the legs were slimmer. DK

“I'm reminded of a story my mom told around 0ct. 2011. Her friend was leaving Phoenix to go back to the Navajo or Apache reservation at that time. As she was driving through the mountains north from Payson, Arizona to Holbrook, Arizona. She said she was on a deserted road coming down the mountain driving around 60 to 65 mph and said that she suddenly freaked out for some reason. Well, she started hearing noises on top of the small SUV she was driving with her two grandkids in the back seat. She tried to clarify where the noise was coming from as she was driving. The noise didn't stop. Well she came to realize that something was following her and flying atop of the vehicle. She freaked out but kept quiet enough to not wake the kids and drove faster to try and get away. She got away but she is very certain that something was chasing her because when she made her way to the Rez and checked her car for damage or a dead bird, maybe...and nothing.” - smrio

The Sky Changed Colors

Eric in Florida wrote to tell of a strange sighting he had:

“I'm writing you today because I had a very strange encounter about two years ago. I was sitting outside probably between 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM on a weekday with a friend, watching the stars. We were in our college dorm room and sitting in a well lit area outside the second floor. Suddenly, all the power went out for like two seconds and the entire sky turned bright green, then bright blue, then dark blue, then back to darkness with stars. Both of us saw the exact same transition in the sky and while we have found a few similar stories online neither of us have ever been able to find any explanation. I should mention that we were in central Florida just outside of Tampa near an Air Force base. I was hoping you all would have heard of similar occurrences. If so, I'd love to know more. If not, no worries.”

Pitch Black Winged Humanoid - Canoga Park, California

I recently received the following account:

Hi Lon,
For the last 20 or more years I have been waiting to see if other people saw what my male companion and my two neighbors saw hovering in the sky above our backyard. The illustration in your article matches exactly what we saw hovering a few hundred feet in the sky. This was in the fall of 1996, also in a very densely populated area in Southern California. We lived in Canoga Park at the time, in a commercial flight path to Burbank and LAX and just 5 miles from Van Nuys airport, one of the busiest small aircraft airports in the country. So the air space above our neighborhood was always busy.

I was in the shower when my companion came into the house yelling...'come out in the backyard! You gotta see this!' I got out of the shower and could hear our dog and our neighbor's dogs barking excessively. I got dressed and went out into the back yard...our neighbors were in our yard looking up. Our dog was looking up towards this thing and barking like crazy. My first thought was someone's flying a kite...but it was a cloudy, dark night with no wind. The moon cast a glow behind the clouds and this thing looked black as pitch and just hung there in the sky. I could not see any head or face with red eyes because of the height it was at. It didn't make any sound that we could hear but the dogs could hear something...and dogs aren't prone to looking up into the sky and barking at things. My boyfriend decided to run into the house to get a more powerful flashlight and while he was in the house, this thing slowly opened its wings out completely, banked to the left and slowly glided away in a westerly direction towards the coastline. It then looked like one long wing, tattered edges and all. This whole incident took about 15 to 20 minutes and during that time there wasn't a single airplane, jet or helicopter in the sky.

We called the local news station KTLA to report what we saw and they said no calls had come in as of yet, that they would not air it on the local news unless more reports came in. Needless to say, that never happened. I watched news reports, went online for years looking for similar reports and the only information I could find that came close was about the Mothman. At the time I had never heard of the Mothman. I just hope I get a chance to encounter this creature again. I now reside in Kentucky. I still remember every little detail about this event that happened over 20 years ago...like it happened yesterday. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. RG

Yes, when we first observed it, the wings were drawn more up like a "U" shape. Very tattered looking, blacker than the night, and it looked much larger than the 6-7 ft creature people reported seeing. When it opened up its wings to glide away, from the height it was at, the wing span looked to be more like 10-15 feet across. There were never any other reports that night or the days following about this thing being sighted. Another unusual aspect of this thing was how very slow it glided away...no aircraft could have been able to move that slowly and without any noise. RG

'Hissing' Humanoid

Joshua from West Virginia called to tell of strange encounter he had:

“I don't know how to explain it. I wanted to get your take and ask you or the listeners what you or they think I saw. It's been over 20 years ago now. My family had relocated to St. Albans, West Virginia. There are so many little details, I'm going to try to cram it all into one message here. Back when I was in the 4th grade, my family relocated to St. Albans, West Virginia and we lived, kind of at the end of a cul de sac and if you can imagine, kind of place where you are driving in this very quiet neighborhood and on the right hand side, the houses were on flatland. On the left hand side, there were about four houses that were down over on a hillside and it was just a continuous drop off this hillside. The houses were on stilts. That was one of our houses.

Our first night there, it was at the end of the summer and it was probably around 9:00 PM when this happened. The sun was going down but it's still light enough to where you still kind of see the outline of things. But it was dark enough to not see kind of what was standing out in front of you. My older brother and me, we shared a room and there was sliding glass door that went out to a deck that was, of course, on stilts. If you were to walk out on this deck and look over, I mean it's just a straight drop. I mean if you jump off this thing, you would, at least, break your legs and your back or probably worse. So, our first night there, we're getting ready for bed and the blinds are kind of tilted open a little bit and I heard a knock on the sliding glass door and my brother says, 'Who's that?' And I said, 'Hey, it's the kid from next door' we had just met earlier that day. That's who it looked like from the outline. I propped the blinds to the side to look at this person. I couldn't make the person out. There was a body... I mean the person was standing right in front of me but it was just complete dark. The person was just a shadow because I could not see who it was just because it was so dark outside.

So when I opened the blinds and saw the thing, it hissed at me and put its hands up like it was making claw marks like it was imitating a cat and it hissed at me. Then, it took a couple of steps back, looked at me again, got a running start and completely hurdled the railing on the deck. And that was it. I really didn't think much of it at the time but listening to you guys all the time and hearing other people's stories, I keep thinking, What was that on the deck that night? And, I mean, it's crazy and freaky when I think about it. I just get chills, man. It doesn't sound normal.”

Large Dark Winged Humanoid - Southeast Michigan

I recently received the following account:

Hi Lon,
So I Googled 'Michigan cryptids' in an attempt to figure out what I saw fly across the sky on my way to work Saturday night when I stumbled upon your website and the sighting from the person in Lansing, MI. So I decided to give you my account of what I saw. On Saturday 2/9/19 at around 10:30PM I was driving into town on my way to work when I saw a dark figure the size of an adult human leap from a tree and fly across the sky over the road. I slammed on my brakes and watched this massive creature fly into a nearby wooded area. I tried to get pictures but because it was dark out and this creature appeared to be jet black in color, nothing was visible in the photos. I live in Clayton, Michigan and work in Adrian and where I saw this creature was about half way between the 2 towns and the towns are only a 20 minute drive apart. This is down in Southeast Michigan about a 30-minute drive from the Michigan/Ohio state line so if we are all seeing the same creature it is definitely migrating.

Red Eyes in the Night Sky

I recently found the following account:

I believe I had a Mothman encounter in August of 2005. I was 19. I visited Point Pleasant with my friend and fiance. We were just dumb kids being dumb kids, thought it would be fun to go find "The Mothman." We didn't even plan the trip out very much. We borrowed this old tent that belonged to my fiance's father and I swear to God hadn't been opened since the 70s. When we made it into town, it was already dark. We stopped at a police station and they were friendly enough, told us where we could camp.

We went down all these creepy back roads and it seemed so dark and isolated. We were having a good time, pretending to scare the sh*t out of each other, as kids do. We were driving down one back road just surrounded by woods. It was completely dark other than the headlights. And we all three saw two enormous red eyes in the sky. I know how it sounds. But it honest to God happened, and we all about p*ssed ourselves because of how high off the ground they were. We all three screamed like little girls and my fiance floored it.

After the initial shock and just feeling shaky and unnerved, my fiance recovered and wanted to set up camp. My friend and I thought he was an idiot and we refused to sleep anywhere near those woods. We ended up sleeping in the car in a hospital parking lot once we were back to civilization. We later found out the directions to the camping spot we got was in/around the TNT area. We had no prior information about this. We barely planned at all.

We had breakfast at Biscuit World the next morning and for whatever reason chose not to share our encounter with anyone. I guess we thought no one would believe us if we did. We left a day early since we didn't want to try sleeping in the car in August again.

When we got home, Hurricane Katrina had made it's way toward the gulf coast. It was all over the news. (We had listened to mix CDs the whole trip and hadn't even been aware of anything going on.) It just struck me, because a Mothman sighting is said to be an omen of tragedy and misfortune.

It's still this crazy story I tell people, and they laugh, but what happened stays with me. Be careful what you go looking for, kids. You just might find it. OM
