'Demon Dog' in Pennsylvania
“I actually had a strange "demon dog" encounter. My hellhound/demon dog/chupacabra/hyena sighting also occurred in broad daylight at very close range, as it was eating a large goose down in the creek-bed and I must have startled it since I came right up on it unexpectedly. I am a biologist and I have a background in several specialized biological fields, have conducted tons of field research, and have been in forests and swamps ever since learning how to walk. This thing was massive and canine but sort-of had hints of feline or hyena-like traits are far as it's overall morphology and structure, it also moved oddly for a dog. As I said, I was almost right on top of it by the time we saw each other, and I slowly backed away and once I had enough distance between us, I promptly fled. This encounter was very short, so I didn't have a lot of time to study every feature of its body, and I always chalked it up to simply being a massive and extremely bizarre or deformed dog, but I can't really justified that line of thinking, as this creature was unlike any canine I have ever seen or that appears in the fossil record of North America. I live in Pennsylvania and we're not exactly known for having "exotic" wildlife and it's humbling to admit that I, as a biologist, have nothing but assumptions about what it could be.. I couldn't even tell you what taxonomic family it belongs to. It was lanky for a dog and did have rather long hind legs. I wouldn't characterize it as wallaby or kangaroo -like - it seemed to have high shoulders and moved more like a big-cat...more "stealthily".” - J. Gona

Spring-Heeled Jack?
“My sensible grandmother saw a version of Spring-Heeled Jack in her yard! On April 7, 2005 there had been a big storm that knocked the power out on their side of the street and she happened to look out her living room window to see a man all in black with a black ball cap pulled low over his eyes, bouncing like a ball. She said this man/thing never stopped bouncing like a kangaroo and he leapt over her front gate and kept bouncing towards the cemetery. As I said, my grandmother was a no-nonsense type of woman and this spooked her. A few minutes after this, my mother, brother and grandmother saw a ball of yellow light in the kitchen and there was no way for that to happen because there was no power and they had not lit any candles. My grandfather did not see the light at all and he was sitting there with them.” - Tonya

Military Personnel Bigfoot Encounters
Recently, A man named Marc forwarded a first-hand account of an encounter with Bigfoot near Ft. Lewis, Washington in 1989. A friend of his had been stationed at the Army base.
He and his platoon were practicing a recon mission along the Nisqually River a few miles from the fort. The commanding office ordered one of the soldiers to swim across the river and scope out what was happening on the other side. The soldier did as he was told, and swam across the river. He climbed up the steep, muddy embankment on the other side and disappeared into the forest. The rest of the platoon waited for a few minutes and then heard the soldier scream. Seconds later, he reappeared into view, flying down the embankment with a terrified look on his face. He was in hysterics as he crossed the river.
When he was safely on the other side he collapsed onto the ground, and told his platoon that he had inadvertently run into Bigfoot on the other side. Caught off guard, the creature freaked out, and took off running in the opposite direction. As he recounted what happened, the other soldiers could unmistakably hear the sounds of something large and heavy barreling through the trees and foliage on the other side.
Marc's friend informed him that the soldier who had run into the creature, left the army not long after. He moved to Oregon and became involved with the Bigfoot investigations there. The encounter had changed his life.
I had previously posted an account of a possible Sasquatch incident near the same military installation. I later received several BFRO links from a reader (Joe C.) describing other military-related Bigfoot encounters, including another report from Ft. Lewis in Pierce County, WA:

Soldier sees large figure while on patrol at Fort Lewis
YEAR: 1971
SEASON: Winter

LOCATION DETAILS: This occurred in 1971 so if you could locate the barracks area of Company E 4th Battalion 2nd Brigade. You will find the location.
NEAREST TOWN: Ft.Lewis
NEAREST ROAD: unknown
OBSERVED: Read report 3281.
I had basic training at Ft.Lewis, WA. I was there from Jan. 71 to May 71. I was assigned to Company E 4th Battalion 2nd Brigade. That is were my barrack was. Between the barracks was an open field 100 yds or more wide.
On the other side of the field the outline of the forest trees began and after them more trees and more trees.
Anyway it was winter and it had snow. The area was covered in snow. It was a cold clear night. There was a full moon which illuminated the night sky. I can't recall what month it was. I was assigned guard duty of our barracks area. My shift was the early mourning hours (After midnight). I was to walk for two hours patrolling our company area.You could hear the crunching of the snow under my boots as I walk.
As I was walking towards the last barrack, I was facing the open field. I saw something at the distance in front of were the forest trees began. It was walking towards me and then it would stop. Where it stood, I looked to the right side of the area and to the left side of the area and saw only this thing in front of me. It started to move again towards me. I saw a silhouette of a figure it was all black.
When it walk it was swaying back and fourth. Scared, I turned around and walked towards my barrack and went inside and told no one about what I saw. A day or two later I think it was in the Seattle times newspaper there were photos taken of Bigfoot prints in the snow near a fence at a ranch in the area. I wonder if this is what I saw that night?
ALSO NOTICED: Come to think of it the figure I saw looked like the thing on the DVD cover 'The Legend Of Boggy Creek'. It was swaying back and forth as it walk. That is the silhouette I saw a black figure walking towards me.
OTHER WITNESSES: None

TIME AND CONDITIONS: Early morning (after midnight) Maybe between 1AM and 3AM. Clear winter night. Full moon.
ENVIRONMENT: The barracks. The open field covered wit snow.At the end of the field a lot of pine forest.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Kristine W.:
The witness was a brand new, 19 year-old soldier going through basic training when he had this encounter. He was so new that he had not even been issued a weapon yet. The witness described himself as a city boy from San Jose, California who was unused to the heavily wooded areas of the Pacific Northwest.
The witness’s assigned duty was to patrol the perimeter of the barracks area. He carried a folding shovel instead of a weapon. He came to a field that was about 100 yards to the tree line. In front of the tree line was a black figure that moved with an unusual, swaying gait. When the figure stopped walking and held still, it blended so well into its background that it looked just like a stump or tree.
The soldier couldn’t believe his eyes because there were not supposed to be any personnel out at that time of night. He looked to the left and right of the figure, then back at it, just trying to figure out what he was seeing. What made it look unusual was the "huge" size (much taller and bulkier than a man), the way it was able to blend into the background and its peculiar swaying walk. The witness said the shoulder area was exceptionally broad and that the figure looked “big on top.”
The young man was scared by what he saw and decided to go back inside the barrack. He told no one for fear he would be forced to “investigate” what was out there. He said his folding shovel didn’t seem like a very effective weapon against an animal of this size.
At the time of the sighting, the witness did not know what he was observing. It was not until he saw an article about sasquatches that he determined what he might have seen.
Fort Lewis is almost 16 square miles in size and has a long history of possible sasquatch activity within its borders.

Special Forces team follows bipedal trackway, gets screamed at
YEAR: 1988
SEASON: Spring
MONTH: March
STATE: Alaska
COUNTY:
LOCATION DETAILS: The team was flown by helicopter out of Wainwright A.F. Base in a south-easterly direction for about an hour before being dropped off in the wilderness for an orienteering excercise lasting several days. The location is north of the Brooks Range and south of the region of the National Petroleum Reserve. Technically, the area is in the North Slope Borough of Alaska.
NEAREST TOWN: Not pertinent.
NEAREST ROAD: None
OBSERVED: In March of 1988, I was the Team Commander (Captain in rank) of a Special Forces "A" Team, conducting a Strategic Reconnaisance training mission in Alaska. There were 11 soldiers on the Team with a lot of Special Forces experience between them. We were wearing rucksacks and walking through the deep snow in a wooded area with cross-country skis. As we approached an area where the woods were too thick to go through on the skis, I decided to walk ahead on snow shoes with two other soldiers to check out the way ahead. After walking about 200 meters into the thicker woods, we came across a set of tracks that immediately drew our attention. The tracks were obviously of a two-legged creature walking through the woods on a course perpendicular to our own. Human tracks of any kind are extremely rare in that part of Alaska but these were particulary unique due to the length of the stride and the fact that there was no crushed snow on either the entry or the exit side of the holes.
We stopped to investigate. When each of us took off our snow shoes we sank into the snow to a depth of about 2 feet (above the knee). When we attempted to take a step in the deep snow, we left an area of crushed snow on the entry side of the hole and then crushed the snow again upon taking our foot out of the hole to take the next step. Our feet made a drag mark in the snow as well no matter how hard we tried to extract the foot without touching the surrounding snow. The best any of us could do was a stride between steps of about 1 1/2 feet. The tracks we were looking at had a stride of over 5 feet between steps and left the snow on both entry and exit from the hole totally untouched. After discussing the rational possibilities for a while, I sent one of my men back to bring up the rest of the Team. Between the 11 men on that Team, we had over 150 years of combined Special Forces experience in the woods all over the planet. They also had extensive experience in the tracking of everything with either two or four legs. We all studied the tracks and tried to come up with a reasonable explanation for what we were looking at. Only one explanation seemed to fit everything we saw but it was not a reasonable explanation. Based on our group experience in tracking humans, we made an approximate determination as to the height and weight of the person who had made the tracks based on the stride and depth of indentation in the snow. THe group consensus was a two-legged person about around 9 ft tall and weighing approximately 500 to 600 pounds. That was our best educated guess.
I then made a decision to set the training mission aside for a while and to follow the tracks through the woods. Wearing snow shoes, we followed those tracks for about an hour before we heard it. From somewhere ahead of us (and quite a distance from what we could tell) we heard the most horrific sound any of us has ever heard. Every other sound in the woods went instantly silent and we could almost hear our hearts beating. The only other time any of us has heard that kind of silence in the woods or jungle was in the last seconds before initiating an ambush. It is as though every creature and insect in the woods knows that something is about to die and they go silent out of fear or self-preservation. After hearing the sound (it was a cross between a howl and a roar), my Team Sergeant (the most senior and experienced member of my Team) stopped me and said, "Sir, speaking for both myself and the rest of the Team, we really do not want to know what is at the end of these tracks (expletives deleted)". This was surprising to me in that, through all of their years in Special Forces, these men had never expressed a fear of anything on two or four legs. I understood their consternation and agreed to resume the original mission. There was also a general consensus not to discuss the incident with anyone upon our return. Mind you that we were on a training misson and did not have live ammunition so any eventual confrontation with whoever or whatever made those tracks would not have been without a great deal of danger. Our curiosity to know what it was that made the tracks was overcome by the reality that we would be no match for it and, more importantly, that we really did not want to know what was at the end of those tracks. Tracks in the snow are much easier to deny and ignore than actually seeing what made them. My soldiers, and I, were afraid of what we heard and saw and the soldiers just didn't want to know.
The tracks stayed on the military crest of ridgelines and in low areas as much as possible. The only times the tracks crossed a ridgeline was in a saddle where it would not be seen. The thing which struck us all as odd was that, while the tracks depicted someone far too large to be human, whatever was making the tracks was moving through the woods exactly as one of us would have if we were conducting an escape and evasion. Whatever it was knew the land (as it maneuvered to bypass clearings well before they came into view) and was making a concentrated effort to remain unseen. I still think that the sound we heard was intended to warn us to back off and not follow.
I have thought back on that incident hundreds of times and wondered how it would have turned out if we had proceeded to follow the tracks. There are pros and cons to both sides of the issue. As for me, there are just some things that cannot be denied. Since then, I have had a VERY healthy respect for Sasquatch.
ALSO NOTICED: There was no denying the tracks and what they meant. As for the sound we heard, it was like nothing any of us had experienced in all of our years in the various woods and jungles around the world.
OTHER WITNESSES: 10 Special Forces soldiers other than myself.
OTHER STORIES: No
TIME AND CONDITIONS: Middle afternoon. Clear day, not snowing, temperature around freezing.
ENVIRONMENT: Thickly wooded area, rolling terrain.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Dr. Wolf H. Fahrenbach:
This extraordinarily concise report is indubitable the northernmost record of any sasquatch observation. An unverified report (Unreachable) stems from Unalakleet, about 5 degrees of latitude (450 miles) to the south.
The officer who submitted this report was, when I contacted him, overseas on duty and I talked with him at length when he returned. His report was factual and to the point, without exaggeration. Given some considerable delay between the originator retelling this account, assorted inaccuracies might have crept in along the way, specifically names and directions (since they were not specifically told where they were being taken on this orienteering mission).
The footprints were very large and essentially round, presumably from snow adhering to the hair on the sides of the foot. The witness could turn his boot with inflatable "Mickey Mouse" overboots sideways in the footprint.
The witness described and imitated partially the singularly guttural, angry sounding growling scream at a deep pitch.

2 Winged Humanoids Glide Over New Jersey Highway
I recently received the following account:
Lon...I've listened to your podcasts many times and wanted to share an encounter I had over 20 years ago, here in northern New Jersey. I was in a car with a friend of mine, traveling east on Rt.80...maybe Rt.46. I can't remember exactly. It was still daylight, August or September. We were on a 4-lane highway and the weather was clear. All of a sudden from the driver's side on the left of the highway came 2 human-shaped things with wings gliding over the highway, just a few feet (2') over the tops of the cars as we passed over a body of water! They were a muddy brown color, 2 arms, 2 legs, and 2 wings each, neck and head. The bodies looked almost wet, or leathery. It was only a few seconds that passed. we had a "wtf" moment! They flew over the highway and swooped back down over the opposite side. We didn't notice any flapping of wings, just a smooth, gliding motion. Didn't see any detail in the faces or eyes. I would guess they were about 6-7 feet in height with a thin, athletic body type. Almost gargoyle-like. My friend and I haven't shared this with too many people. Some react like we're lying, but we both talk about it every once in awhile. Thanks - Don

Missing Time Incident
Country lane in South Carolina, 1990s. My brother driving, me a passenger. Dark road, nearing dusk. A phone line crossed over the road between poles at one point. Dark fields to either side. As we neared it, we saw a greenish-blue-white glow around the middle of the wire over the center of the road. It was hazy and puzzled us. We'd never seen anything like it. Seemed about the size of a large Coleman cooler, but rounded. He slowed as we passed under it, so we could get a good look. We did not stop. It was dark by the time we arrived, and people started asking where we'd been. "We came straight over," we insisted. Yet the fifteen minute ride to my sister's house we were on had become 90 minutes. Winged Humanoid Abducts Eyewitness in Rolling Prairie, Indiana
I recently received a telephone call describing a harrowing account from the eyewitness 'LH'. The incident occurred on the night of October 27, 1969 in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. LH was a young child at the time.
LH states that he and his family (mother, father, sister and grandmother) where living in a trailer situated on their family's land. The trailer had sustained damage on the roof, leaving a large hole. The hole was covered with a wide waterproof tarp until it was to be repaired.
LH and his baby sister shared a bedroom. He was awakened by a strange noise and a strong disagreeable odor. As he looked towards his sister's crib, he saw a tall winged humanoid staring down at her. The being slowing turned and looked at a horrified LH.
The description was a very tall being that was crouched a bit. LH estimates that it stood 7-8 foot in height. The body and face had black hair. The leather-like wings were huge, and shaped like that of a bat or gargoyle. It had muscular detached arms and legs. The body and face were thin and looked like a human skeleton with obvious sharp teeth. The eyes were dark. It also made a low garbled sound.
LH screamed in order to alert his parents in the adjoining room, but they never responded. His grandmother was alerted and came to his aid, though she was stunned at the sight and immediately fell to her knees.
The creature picked up LH in its arms and made its way into the living room, where it ascended through the hole in the ceiling. It's obvious it had moved the tarp in order to gain access inside the trailer. LH remembers being very cold and wet, and hearing his grandmother screaming as the winged humanoid took off into the sky. He has no idea how long he was gone, but only remembers waking in his bed among his panicked parents and grandmother.
LH states that his grandmother witnessed the entire event and documented it. His living relatives concur with the account, since his grandmother recalled what had happened to each of them. His grandmother passed away in 1985.
LH's parent woke after the abduction. It seems that they were somehow placed into an hypnotic state until the winged being left the premises with LH. After several minutes, they all heard scratching noises and a loud thud on the roof. LH's father immediately gained access to the roof where he saw LH lying unconscious. They were able to quickly bring LH into the trailer, dry him off and place him in his bed. They were reluctant to call the authorities or seek medical assistance because of the bizarre event.
LH recovered but has endured emotional problems his entire life which he attributes to the abduction. At the time of 'The Mothman Prophecies' film release, he had a mental breakdown after watching it in a theater. He literally had to leave during the scene where the Mothman caused the automobile crash and death. He has not attempted to watch the film since then.
I asked LH why he called me. He stated that he had received a call from his cousin who was aware of the winged humanoid sightings in Indiana. That's when he was given my contact information. Lon

The witness was working as a tribal officer and one night was driving home after a long night shift north on Highway 63. He came to a steep hill and was driving through some thick fog when he came across about 6 women standing in the ditch. They were dressed in older fashion dresses, like older women used to wear. He found that odd that they were standing in the ditch. He turned around and drove back down to where they were at. Instead of women, there were 6 deer, all does, standing where he had seen the women only moments before. He parked and was checking them out, and it felt like they were just staring at him with big black eyes. He was kind of “creeped out” so he turned around and drove off.

Tuxedo Man
“My father's treasure hunting companion at an old abandoned silver mine shack in Mexico near the state of San Luis Potosi encountered a 'man' that matched this "tuxedo man" in the middle of the wilderness in the dead of night. He heard footsteps approaching his shack and knew that no one else was supposed to be there. Thinking it might be thieves, he armed himself and opened the door. The guy was beyond spooked when he saw a super tall unnaturally thin pale man dressed in a tuxedo type outfit standing a few yards away. The stranger wasn't moving and kept staring at him. As my father's friend threaten the stranger with his gun from the doorway of the shack, the stranger spoke saying, " You don't belong here." At which point, it started walking towards him. My dad's friend was almost petrified with fear that he didn't realized that he had instinctively moved back into the shack, leaving the door open. The gun was still in his hand yet he felt it wasn't gonna help him. The tuxedo man was at the doorway. It was way taller than the height of the opening and looked like it was about to lean down to enter the shack. My father's friend started praying out of desperation. It suddenly stopped just before it was about to step over the threshold of the doorway, however, it was bent over and in the dim light of the lantern my dad's friend saw it now had red glowing eyes. He kept praying recalling how frightened he was at the time, but focused as much as he could into praying out loud. This thing walked backwards and continued to do as it "melted" into the air. The whole encounter must have lasted less than a minute, but my dad's friend kept praying until sun up. My dad trusts his friend and isn't the kind of guy to be telling him ghosts stories. Bigfoot Attacks RV Near Mt. Rushmore
The following account was forwarded to me several years ago:
Hello Sir - I recently started reading your site after looking for information on Bigfoot in South Dakota. You asked for real-life encounters. I hope this fits the bill.
My family had a scary confrontation in 1992 while RVing. We camped near Wind Cave National Park several times while I was a boy, but stopped going in that part of South Dakota after our experience with something unknown.
We normally camped in the early Summer, but for whatever reason my Father decided we'd go a few weeks before I went back to school. We always enjoyed going into Wind Cave and would spend a full day there. We'd then spend the rest of the week around the RV campground. This particular year we camped further away from Wind Cave in the vicinity of Hill City, not far from Mt. Rushmore. The area was surrounded by thick pine forest and very rugged.
It was a Saturday night and very calm around our campsite. Many people had left during the day, so there were few kids running around. Around 10:30 PM I decided to go to bed. I was bored and my parents were entertaining another couple. I laid down and turned the radio on while I drifted to sleep.
The only thing I remember next is my Mother making lots of noise while inside the RV. I sat up and watched my Father looking for something in a storage bin. The next thing I noticed was him holding his pistol. I was wide awake now, wondering what was going on. I started to ask but was quickly told to be quiet by both of them. They were standing by the door when suddenly something slammed into the back of the RV. I thought someone had hit us with a vehicle. The window in the back was smashed and the curtain was on the floor. I moved towards my parents when again something slammed into the back of the RV, at the same time a deep rumbling sound came from the same direction. I never thought my Mother could scream so loud. My Father raised the pistol and fired through the window opening. We waited quietly for something to happen. Whatever it was must have run off.
By that time, someone was yelling from outside wanting to know what was going on. I think it was someone from the campground. My Father went outside to talk to whoever it was. My Mother was very scared and was visibly shaking. She just grabbed me and squeezed me tight. My Father came back into the RV and said that we were leaving. He grabbed whatever gear was outside, threw it in the RV and we were off. None of us talked much as we drove home, which was about a 4 hour drive.
A few days later my Mother told me what happened that night. My parents were just about ready to go to bed. She said it was about 11:45 PM and she was cleaning up outside when she noticed something large on 2 legs run from behind the RV into the forest. My Father told her that it was probably a bear. Then he saw it duck out and then back into the woods. There wasn't much light other than that from a lantern and the back window from inside the RV. He told her that it was no bear. By that time they were in the RV and heard deep guttural grunts coming from the creature. My Father then slowly opened the door. It was standing no more than 10 ft. away looking directly at him. He quickly slammed the door shut and went looking for the pistol.
My Father has never said much about whatever it was, but from his later descriptions I believe he confronted a Bigfoot.
He described it as covered head to toe with thick dark hair with a wide nose and piercing yellow eyes that glowed in the light. He estimated the height at over 6 ft. and that it weighed over 400 lbs with huge arms and legs. That's basically all he ever said. He refuses to talk to anyone else about it.
We continued camping over the years but we never went back to that area.

'Screaming' Grey Alien
Ellerslie, MD - 1977-10-31: I grew up by the woods and at the age of around 6 years old, I had a terrifying experience. many times i would accompany my mother to take our dogs for a walk in the woods. Around this age, I was fascinated with different TV programs and what I would describe as doing a witch laugh or cackling. I would do this "witch laugh" when we would walk in the woods because I was trying to master it to sound scary.
A few days later I was playing in my backyard with my brother when I began hearing a very hard knocking sound coming from the side of our house. I looked at the house and saw nothing and my brother continued playing. The sound hit the house again and I looked again and saw nothing. This horrendous loud sound (that I suppose only I could hear) hit the house again. For the third time, I heard the loud sound again. Except for this time I had this feeling to turn my head to the left facing our garage by the woods.
There is where I saw a Grey-like creature standing partly behind a tree right in front of our garage. It had would I described at that time "an upside-down onion head" with large slanted eyes, small mouth and nose. It then telepathically communicated my "witch laugh" into my head, but in a demonic sound. My brother noticed something was wrong with me and asked me what was wrong, but I couldn't speak. I could hardly get my legs to move and if my brother wasn't there I don't think I could have moved at all due to fear. The fear it put into me was like nothing I have ever experienced in my life.Iit began laughing demonically in my head and doing the witch laugh. The sound filled my head and it was deafening. Finally, I could scream and began to partly run, almost falling as I headed for the front door of our house.
As I got to the door my mother came running asking what was wrong?? I was hysterical crying and screaming realizing that this thing was pure evil. My parents asked my brother what happened, but he didn't know. I described to my parents what I saw and what it did to me. My parents decided to go out and investigate the tree and garage area, even though I begged them not to. They found nothing nor saw nothing and I never saw it again.
Many years later I came across a book that had the exact picture on it of the Grey alien I had seen called 'Communion.' There on the front cover was the same face of the Grey alien creature I had seen. After looking at the content of the book, I knew then that others had seen the same alien creature I had and that this was real. - MUFON

Grandfather's Lost Time
When my grandfather was a young man living in Minnesota, he had an incident where him and three friends were driving to the next town. It was 9 PM when they left. About 30 min into their drive, they all realized it was 3 AM. They all got frightened and turned around and went home.
Up until that point, my grandfather hadn't done anything with his life except drinking and partying. That all changed after this event.
Shortly after the event, my grandfather ended up getting a job with the US DoD. He held an above top secret clearance and traveled all over the US and the world for his job. He did not tell any of us what he did until his deathbed. He died at 65.
In his early sixties he had a similar event happened to him. He and three friends were driving on a trip when 4 hours went missing again. This time it happened in Kentucky. They turned around and went home. Shortly after the second event he was in the hospital with a brain aneurysm. He passed away a few years later.

Bigfoot Encounter Along Medicine Creek
I received the following account in December 2014. Bigfoot sightings in Nebraska are uncommon, so I thought I'd repost:
I grew up near Niobrara, Nebraska not far from the river. My brother and I were able to do a lot back then. We were outside year around. We really enjoyed fishing in the river for catfish. It was the 1950s and things were different. No one cared much what you did, just so you didn't cause trouble.
We usually fished in the morning and evening during the summer. In June 1959 we planned to hike to an area on Medicine Creek and spend a few nights there. It was about 5 miles from home. The second night we were there, we heard strange screaming sounds coming from one the bluffs west of us. It wasn't like anything else I've ever heard before. We also heard something heavy moving through the brush and trees. I'll admit we were scared. As the night went on, things quieted down.
The next morning I walked towards the bluff while gathering firewood. As I approached a rocky pass I caught a glimpse of something big and hairy running away from me. It wasn't a bear and stood at least 7 ft high. It was huge with a wide back. That was enough for me. I was ready to move camp someplace else.
My brother and I packed up and started back toward the old trail. I guess we had walked about a mile, then stopped to fish at a good spot we knew. We spent most of the day there. Late afternoon we decided to hike back home. I wasn't feeling well anyway.
The area was much different than today. It's part of a state park with lots of roads and camp areas today. Back then it was much more rugged.
It was about 6pm and we were close to the footbridge at the river. My brother suddenly stopped walking and pointed at a clearing at the river bank. He said someone was over there. We stood there for a minute, then this huge hairy creature stood straight up and looked right at us. It let out a loud grunt, swinging it's arm up over it's head. We started running. I don't thing we stopped until we got near the roadway at the end of the trail.
Over the years, we talked about our run in with the creature and we're both sure it was a Bigfoot. I only told a friend about it a few years later, but he thought I was lying to him. We've been back to the same area many times since then and never noticed anything. I contacted the BFRO in the 1990s but they never came out to take a statement.

NOTE: I called Gary, who is 70, and we discussed the two encounters. I think it may have been the same Bigfoot trailing the brothers. There were no other details available from Gary, who has never heard of another sighting in that part of Nebraska. I checked the database...there isn't much to refer to, other than a sighting in Knox County near Santee in 1979. That was classified as a BFRO Class 'A' report. I forwarded an inquiry to Nebraska Game and Parks about the area of the sighting. BTW, there have been documented Mountain Lion encounters throughout northern Nebraska. Lon

Police Officer Suddenly Appears With UFO!
Wes in St. Helens, Oregon called to tell of a weird experience he had:
"I just wanted to tell you something that happened to us back in 1978. I was living in Massachusetts at the time and my brother and I went out after supper to smoke a doobie. And we were driving around in the little van and out of the white window I could see a UFO that was kind of low. It wasn't a typical looking flying saucer. It kind of looked like it had wings that were arched. It was all lit up underneath and it looked like there was some kind of a boom, like maybe they were working on it or something. Gettysburg's Bigfoot Sightings
I recently found this historical reference to a hairy hominid in Gettysburg, PA:

Big Gorilla Attacks Gettysburg Resident
Gettysburg, Pa., Aug 12. – The gorilla which terrorized residents of the northern end of Adams county some months ago has made its appearance again, this time coming right into town. The other evening a woman resident on York Street saw a creature about four feet high moving along the fence in the rear of her house, and she rushed to the next house to secure help. The neighbor fired a shotgun and the gorilla dropped to the ground. The gunner went toward the fallen animal, but the beast jumped to its hind legs and chased the man into the house. Those who ventured to look out say the animal disappeared in the direction of Biglerville. It is believed the animal has returned to the fastnesses of the mountains.
During a radio appearance in 2011 I commented on separate reports I had both received in the past week that referenced Bigfoot sightings in and around the Gettysburg, PA area. One report focused on a sighting that occurred in Gettysburg...though it did need to be verified since the nature of the sighting was a bit idiosyncratic, let alone that the beast was seen digging through a trash bin and ran off with a KFC bucket. Over the years, I have also heard of several Bigfoot sightings on the Gettysburg b Battlefield as well.
I received another correspondence from a man in Indiana who wanted to remain anonymous. It seems he and his family had spent the past week vacationing in Gettysburg and were on their way home on Friday night (6/4) at around 8:30 pm. From the information I have gathered, he was driving westbound on US 30 (Lincoln Way-Chambersburg Rd) near the intersection of Rt. 234 (Buchanan Valley Rd) on the central eastern edge of Michaux State Forest...approximately 10 mile west of Gettysburg. He noticed that about 40 yards ahead of him a large, tall dark-haired humanoid darted out onto the highway (4 lanes wide) and bound across from north to south into the adjacent woods. He states that it seemed to take only 8-10 long strides in order to cover the width of the highway. He also states that the beast was carrying an object under it's left arm but couldn't make out what it was. He said it looked towards him and he was able to get a look at the face which was lighter in color than the rest of the body. It was somewhat different than Bigfoot images he had remembered seeing...the face and chin were distinctively long. I referred the witness to several Bigfoot / Sasquatch / primate / early human images and asked him to pick out one that closely matched what he saw. The picture is posted below.
Though the overall area is known more for ghost sightings and hauntings...as well as the Conewago Phantom reports east of Gettysburg, there have been several Bigfoot reports from Adams County including the following reported to the BFRO:

PENNSYLVANIA BIGFOOT SIGHTINGS

For anyone who's ever fled with thudding heart from a shrill nighttime sound or blurred apparition, a recent group of visitors to Michaux State Forest is willing to wager that what's out there is more real than imagined.
Bigfoot Field Research Organization last week converged on Caledonia State Park to investigate hollows and hillsides of the surrounding state forest, anticipating an encounter with the elusive mystery, Sasquatch.
The organization, known as BFRO, was founded in 1995 and claims the largest database of credible Bigfoot/Sasquatch sightings throughout the United States and Canada. Besides collecting data, volunteer members do field inquiries throughout the country.
This expedition, BFRO's first in Pennsylvania, was initiated on the strength and number of qualified sightings in Adams and Franklin counties, said BFRO founder, Matt Moneymaker.
The Waynesboro Reservoir capers, which had caused a stir a few years back, were already a footnote in the "cases closed" file. Those oversized footprints, Moneymaker said, had long been debunked as contrived. Talk now centered on a 1997 report from an Adams County hunter who told of seeing three large creatures passing quickly through the woods as he crouched on his tree stand above.
A dozen or more seekers, some with their own expensive, hi-tech instruments, came equipped for a scientific search. Most came with stories of their own — a never-to-be-forgotten sight or sound that kept them wondering.
Michael Greene, a retired fraud investigator, owns a thermal imager, which he'd wired to a digital camera worn at his waist, and a night vision scope.
Greene's eerie backwoods experience had occurred many years earlier.
"I heard this ungodly loud howl," he said slowly, "unlike anything before. When I heard this same sound later on a recording, my skin went cold. That's how strongly it came back to me."
Recordings of sounds attributed to [sasquatches] have been collected for years. BFRO maintains a computer file of more commonly heard vocalizations — from a low moan to a high-pitched whistle — which are useful in the field.
Sound is a new tool that Moneymaker believes will be key in getting a response from [sasquatches].
"[Bigfoot/Sasquatch] research is in its infancy here [in the eastern U.S.]," he said. "In the east, it never got much attention; it had a folkloric association."
There are informal associations with individuals at northwestern universities, said Moneymaker, but because of the stigma attached to the subject, the group's academic associations are not usually not publicized.
On the third night of their vigil, the team set up in a large open tract where they had heard promising evidence the night before.
Breaking into four smaller groups, the team kept in touch by radio. Through the heavy, hand-held thermal imager, one pair at a distant point was seen as two clear white clumps under the gray-white stick images of trees.
The night was cool and silent, with an occasional barred owl or barking dog raising voice in the distance.
Mark Maisel scanned the clearing with night vision binoculars, observing the surreal nature of their quest.
"Bigfoot research is considered a pseudo-science," he said. "But our methods are based on scientific method. We're curious. That's why we're out here."
Maisel interviews people who report sightings.
"I met with a man once who needed a cigarette before he could even talk," he said. "While he was telling me his story, the hair on his arm stood straight up. He was clearly shaken. You can't make up something like that."
Paul Mateja, who investigates sighting reports in New York, said he became involved with BFRO after reporting four incidents that occurred to him and his family over a 25-year period in upstate New York. Immersed in the biology of Bigfoot identification, he has kept up a correspondence with primate researcher, W. Henner Fahrenbach of Oregon, who has published works on the Bigfoot phenomenon.
Not long ago, Mateja said, his wife heard an awful call at 3:30 a.m.
"The sound was so powerful, it shook the windows of our farm house and woke up the neighbors," he said.
From time to time, after a signal, one of the crew would bellow into the night, a loud, deep drawn-out call that echoed among the hills. It should have scared up sounds from coyote, birds and deer all across the hillsides, said Maisel, but nothing stirred or called.
A recorded scream was played through the amplifier, but as the shrillness faded out, there was only silence.
For two nights, there was little to record other than vehicles that frequently hummed along distant roads, shooting lights across the dark woods.
Encounter
Before the team members had left their campsite for the last night's search, an uncommitted visitor dropped by to meet Moneymaker.
Ray Sterner works at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md., and in his spare time, he makes maps. His copyrighted relief maps are made available through North Star Publications.
Sterner had become acquainted with Moneymaker after learning that one of his maps was appearing unacknowledged on BFRO's Web site. He called to set them straight.
Since then, Sterner has prepared the relief maps for BFRO. At the same time, he's disproved two videos that had been submitted as evidence. In one film, what appeared to be a stick thrown across the frame was proven to be an insect that had flown across the lens.
"I'm a skeptic," said Sterner. "You need a lot of proof."
Sterner and his wife, who live in Carroll County, Md., hike on occasion in Michaux. When he learned Moneymaker would be here, Sterner sought him out.
The men conferred briefly, holding an Appalachian Trail map against a tree. Then, huddling at the picnic table with his team, Moneymaker highlighted three possible search routes on the map. Blue marker crisscrossed the black elevation lines printed on the map.
"Excuse me," interrupted Sterner. "That's my map you're using. I'll need it tomorrow if I intend to go hiking."
Laughter ensued, and Sterner continued. "Could I have your autograph?"
With the same blue highlighter he'd been using to route a final search, Moneymaker signed the map and handed it back to Sterner.
Before they parted, the two shook hands.
