The Fusaro Files - Part I: Radar Technicians and Assorted UFO Phenomena

Gladys Fusaro of Huntington, Long Island, New York, was one of the many correspondents for the premier ufologist Gray Barker and his noteworthy Saucerian Bulletin, which he published out of his office located in the back of a drive-in movie theater in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Fusaro was convinced that the flying saucers were piloted by advanced beings hailing from other planets in our solar system, and possibly from beyond. She constantly scanned newspapers at every opportunity looking for accounts of UFO sightings and occupant reports.

Fusaro began mailing reports to Gray Barker on a regular basis beginning in December 1958. A series of articles on UFOs by John Lester of the Newark, New Jersey, Star-Ledger, were among the first pieces to catch her eye. Fusaro concluded that Lester’s articles offered objective evidence that the mysterious objects that many believed to be flying saucers were being tracked by highly trained United States government radar personnel stationed throughout the country at both civilian and military installations.

Radar experts were in control of the nation’s air traffic. Many had pointed out that some of the unknown objects were performing maneuvers that no known aircraft of the time could be capable of executing. Also, no human could possibly withstand the tremendous G-forces associated with such maneuvers. The UFOs were traveling at fantastic speeds. Sometimes the objects were moving at speeds calculated in thousands of miles per hour. These enigmatic objects were known to make perfect ninety degree turns, steep vertical climbs, and even abrupt, hovering stops. This was all in defiance of the then extant laws of aerodynamics. When asked if the UFOs were flying saucers from outer space, one of the radar men declared, “If it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it's probably a duck.” He also added, “Sorry, that’s all I can say about it for now.”

Fusaro contacted Lester at the Star-Ledger newsroom. “What else can you tell me about the flying saucers that didn’t appear in your newspaper articles?” she inquired. “Well, when more than one of the saucers was involved, they flew in a pattern. And when there were a lot of them, they were in a pattern within a pattern, if you catch my drift.”

“You mean they were intelligently controlled.”

“You got it, sister. What the authorities said about the UFOs flying in formation down in Texas, the ones that were photographed, being a flock of birds, well that’s just a cover-up. These things are physical, hard metallic space ships. They’re just like that Polish guy (George Adamski) describes them on the Long John Nebel Party Line radio program.”

In the articles Lester noted that, “The UFOs invariably stay just ahead of the Air Force planes sent up to intercept them. This has led most of these skilled technicians, Civil Aeronautic Authority employees with the official title of Airways Operation Specialist, to conclude that flying saucers do exist. At the very least, they say there is ‘something out there’ that just can’t be explained in any conventional manner.”

About 1,000 such technicians were polled by Lester during the first week of December 1958 concerning the presence of flying saucers in our skies. Of this 1,000, approximately eight out of every ten radar technicians opined that flying saucers were real and coming to Earth from somewhere in outer space. Lester concluded this information is reliable because the 1,000 polled was considered a “fair cross section of the 12,000 currently on duty at airfields in New York, Newark, Boston, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, Fort Worth and other major cities throughout the country. Some were from airfields in the Hawaiian Islands.” The remaining 200 or so were undecided or noncommittal, but not outright dismissing the idea of visitors from the stars.

Lester’s articles were certainly groundbreaking in the emerging field of ufology. Each one of the technicians that he polled were expert operators of the super-sensitive electronic “eye” known as radar. Radar is a device employed to ensure the precision-safe take-offs and landings of all aircraft. They are employed in a constant search of the sky for unscheduled or unidentified planes, or “anything else” that might interfere with the normal flight plans or somehow endanger national security.

Slightly over 500 of the 1,000 polled report that they had seen or “tracked” UFOs on their radar screens one or more times. And in many instances, the objects were observed simultaneously by people in the vicinity of the radar station, sometimes by the thousands. All 500 were certain that the UFOs tracked were not meteors, weather balloons, cloud formations, hallucinations, or anything else of a similar nature. About sixty percent of the remaining 500, or three out of every five for 300 more technicians, had never personally tracked a UFO but were of the same considered opinion of those that had tracked the objects largely because of their confidence in radar as well as the high degree of confidence they shared in the knowledge and skills of their co-workers.

Lester informed the Star-Ledger readers that the Air Force has consistently “pooh-poohed” reports of flying saucers ever since that military branch began a study of the UFO situation back in 1948. The reporter also commented that the Air Force’s debunking policy had often been criticized by several civilian groups investigating UFOs. The largest and most vocal of these in 1958 was the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP), which was headquartered in Washington, DC. NICAP’s directorate included Major Donald E. Keyhoe, a retired Marine Corps pilot, as director, with other board members General Albert Wedemeyer, Rear Admiral Delmar S. Fahrney, “the father of the Navy guided missile,” and General William E. Kepner, formally of the Air Force. This powerhouse team did much to keep both pressure and a spotlight on the Air Force’s UFO investigative unit, Project BLUEBOOK. NICAP also conducted its own UFO investigations and published the results in a monthly newsletter, the NICAP UFO Investigator.

Concerning official UFO investigations in other nations, Fusaro wrote Barker that Saucerian Bulletin subscribers might want to know that, “Many foreign countries, including England, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Russia have shown interest in exploring UFO reports. These countries have already established or are planning to establish UFO observatories very soon. They have invited the United States to join them in pooling all findings.” Fusaro considered the optimistic attitude of Canada in respect to the UFO phenomenon as being typical of the other nations’ approaches. Wrote Fusaro, “When Canada’s UFO observatory was established at Shirley’s Bay, near Ottawa, several years ago, an official government statement explained that its defense research scientists have never discredited or discounted the existence of flying saucers.”

In returning to Lester’s article, the journalist questioned the Air Force’s “standing pat on its original policy,” but all the while greatly intensifying UFO investigations.

Following her interview with Lester at the Star-Ledger, Fusaro drew some of the UFOs based on descriptions provided to Lester by the actual witnesses to the aerial phenomena. Below is her original artwork along with typed comments.

Alien Encounter Near Grand Forks AFB

Karen from Seattle called to tell of an encounter she had:

“I'm finally gonna come out and tell my red ship story. So I was very small. I was maybe 3 or 4 years old. I was at home sick. I used to get every cold and flu that came down the pike. So I was at home sick and I was upstairs in my bedroom taking a nap. And I woke up. Woke straight up and looked out my window. And then got out of my bed. Went downstairs. We were in a duplex in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Went downstairs. Went into my kitchen. Went to the left. Went down the stairs. Went to the left. Went into my kitchen. Walked to the back kitchen door. There's a door to the basement and a door to the garage on our right. I looked out the kitchen window which is straight ahead of me and above the one tree that we had on the block which is in our backyard. Above that tree there was a red UFO.

It was smallish, maybe 30 feet long. It was...it was a parallelogram. It was rectangular but it was slanted in front and back. The sides were just a dusty brick red and they looked like it was segmented and it had two grasping claws on the front and there were two guys sitting in the front. The front was enclosed like see through it. I am sitting there staring out the window looking at this ship and my mom comes over and she says, 'Sweetheart, what's the matter? You feel okay?' and I didn't even pay attention to her turn. I looked at my dad who was making salad for dinner. I looked at my dad and I said, 'Daddy, don't let them find me! They're looking for me. Daddy, please, don't let them find me!' And my dad (he was at Malmstrom Air Force Base during the big UFO flap from a few years earlier) dropped the silverware. He looks at me. He walks to the door in front of me and closes the little drapes that we had. He looks at my mom says, 'Get her back upstairs and put her back to bed' and I looked at my dad one more time, I said, 'Please, Daddy, don't let them find me!'

I walk upstairs with my mom. I go back into my bedroom. I crawl over the bed, now, remember I'm 3 or 4 years old when this happened. I look back out the window and now it has moved from over the tree to over one of the street lights a little farther down on the road and it's kind of sitting at an angle but down a little bit and the guy in the front - there's two guys in the front of that ship – swear to God, turns and looks right in my bedroom window. He looks right at me and he is pissed off. And I asked, I said, 'Mommy, Mommy, there it is! There it is! There's the ship, but don't let them find me Mommy!' and my mom's upset because she said, 'Honey, I don't see anything.' And I sat down on the bed and I just couldn't even say anything. Both of them, they were wearing, like, just red cover-alls kind of one-piece things. They had a silver belt with, like, little square things. I could see their whole body. They had black gloves. Their skin was very silver but they looked human-ish. Their features were a little more exaggerated than human and they were wearing very dark black glasses, goggle-things, visored, something over their eyes. Their skin was silver. Their hair was silver and the guy who was closest to me was extremely angry and it was like he was sitting in one chair and then up a little bit, like maybe a couple of feet, there was like another level and there was another guy sitting over in that chair. And all of a sudden they spun on the butt end of that ship and they took off and about a minute later, well, we heard the... about a minute later, we heard the alert aircraft take off.

Now for those of you who've never been on an Air Force base, if alert aircraft take off, there are... it's fighter planes and they take off, like, every 10 to 15 seconds and they are after something. These things came because we lived at kind of a back end of the runway to the base and these things came screaming over the house (Jimmy asks how far away the craft was from the window) They were, I don't know, 50 feet. We had like this huge backyard that went down out into a field and we had one tree that was at the very back of our yard and then there was like telephone poles or street lamps or something that was beyond that, maybe, electrical poles that were taller so 50 feet from this one and it was further back.

I'm 57 now. I have thought about this every single day since it happened. Every single day. This the first thing I think of when I wake up. This was near Grand Forks Air Force Base.”

Vivid Dream, Abduction, Old Hag Syndrome...or What?

I'm not sure what to call this...astral travel, OBE, time-slip, Old Hag Syndrome, possession, abduction. I was in my early 30s in the early 2000s...kinda old for Old Hag, which is experienced primarily by much younger people. My wife and I were camping after a hard day of hiking and rock climbing in the Daniel Boone Nat'l Forest in Kentucky...old frontier and civil war country. That night, we quickly fell asleep in our tent, as we were exhausted. Approximately, 3 or 4am, I was shocked by an incredibly vivid dream that burst into my dream vision. I was very aware that I was asleep and dreaming, thus technically lucid dreaming at that moment. I was also very aware of how I was oriented in my tent, where my wife lay asleep, how my tent was situated in my campsite, where the campfire was in general, which way was north, where my car was parked, where the park entrance road and ranger station were, the roadside ditches and underbrush and the general geography of the nearby area. I could see it all, as if outside my body and tent and viewed from above our sleeping bodies.

Then suddenly, the vision of the geography melted and morphed into what I instantly knew was the same place, but different in appearance, what I knew was this was the same place in an much early time. Looking back in hindsight, it could have been a future time. The campgrounds and roads were gone. What was currently thick woods and brush, roads and occasional structures were replaced with rolling hills with occasional and scattered stands of trees. Very far off in the distance on a moonlit bald hillside, I could see two men glowing fuzzy white, bright enough to obscure any details of them, but I knew they were also not from here and now, the impression being a long time past. They were tiny at such a distance, but I knew them as men.

Suddenly, my vision of them zoomed in so that I was face to face with them in a fraction of a second, as if I were unwillingly yanked across the distance to them, rather than them to coming to me. They were both looking straight into my face at what seemed closer than normal conversational spacing. They both turned their glowing and indistinct faces, and looked into the distance off to their left, my right. The illuminated man to my right raised a hand and point a finger in the direction they were looking, leaned in even closer to me and asked me..."Do you want to see a dead body?", indicating where he pointed. To say the very least this was shockingly creepy.

Almost instantly, I am again aware that I am again in my tent, still dreaming all this I would guess. My vision, now, however was from my eyes' normal point of view from where I lay on my back, not from outside of and above me as in the beginning. With my abrupt return to my current and actual location in my tent, I could see my chest, legs and feet as I lay on my back, from a normal point of view. However, there is another body glowing bright and fuzzy white, just as the men in the past distant hillside. This glowing body was taking great care to lay down and position himself precisely into mine lying on my sleeping bag. Starting with the feet, legs and pelvis, they seemed to merge into my body for a perfect matching fit. He then lay into me so that his left shoulder and arm merged into mine. Then his chest into mine. I watched in horror as he placed and merged his remaining right arm and shoulder precisely onto mine, as I laid there utterly unable to move or protest. When the very last of him filled my body's form, I felt my body explode into a rigid spasm of body-wide contraction or convulsion. This was no longer anything that could be thought of as a dream. This was real...I was fully awake. My back was arched like a bridge with only my shoulders and neck and soles of my feet touching the ground. I wanted to scream "Get Out!", but my chest and lungs refused to expand and take the breath I needed to do so. I thought that if I could just get a breath, I could yell loud enough to break the spasm of contraction that had such a complete grip on me. I tried and succeeded to take many tiny sips of air until I had the breath that I need to scream and break free of this terrifying convulsion, and what felt like an invasion of my body. Funny thing is, this whole time, I was aware of my wife sleeping inches away...and that if I yelled "Get Out!", that it would certainly frighten her so I decided yell "Stop It!" instead. And I did just that.

That very instant, the entire event was over. No more body wrenching spasm, no glowing form within me, just me and my white-eyed wife bolt upright beside me. It was over. I insisted that she lay in physical contact with me for the rest of the early morning. I refused to allow myself to go to sleep until I could see the orange glow to the east that was the soon to rise, morning sun. For the next three days, my body was wracked with sore muscles, especially my torso, as if I had done a million crunches and push-ups. My voice was basically gone for a few days from the forceful scream before is came back hoarse and scratchy.

I could easily right this off as an atypical Old Hag experience, if not for the convulsion instead of the opposite flaccid paralysis that is common to it. Later research leads to think it as an OBE/astral travel, as I've read those tend to end abruptly and sometimes violently. The guys over at Mysterious Universe question whether the spirit/soul might have been lured away from my physical body so and distracted so that another might take possession of it. We somewhat affectionately refer to it as my possession, although it still scares the crap out of me. A form of abduction also doesn't seem out of the
question.

I never went back to that part of the national forest. Name Withheld

'Shimmering' Being Encounter

I received the following eyewitness account in 2014:

Hi Lon,

I am a relatively new follower of your blog. I recently read one of your books, “Phantoms and Monsters: Strange Encounters”. I have, for quite some time, searched through many different websites, books, magazines and television shows for an encounter similar to the one I experienced as a small child growing up in South Texas (Mission, TX). I recently read the post on your blog called “Actuality of Invisible Alien Beings” and it really made me excited, as well as quite upset. Excited because someone else had experienced something so similar to what I experienced; upset because it made it more “REAL”.

When I was approximately 7 years old, which would be around 1973/1974, we were living in a mobile home park in Mission, TX. We had just moved to this mobile home park as my parents had just sold the property we lived on. The park was was huge, probably 20 to 30 acres and it had just opened, there were only 2 or three other homes in the whole park, spaced far apart. The park was surrounded by orange groves so it was relatively isolated. I believe it was called the Trade Winds Mobile Home Park. I don’t know if it still there as I haven’t been back to Mission since I left in 1991.

One morning, early, before sunrise, I woke up to noise outside by bedroom window, I don’t recall clearly what the noise was but it was enough to rouse my curiosity. I figured it was probably coyotes and was quite curious to catch a glimpse. I had to stand on my bed to look out my window. I was scanning the yard below but didn’t see any coyotes. I then noticed motion to my left and turned to see a figure standing next to my mothers car. It was an “outline” of a large being, it had to be huge as it was several feet taller than the car. I would guess maybe 6.5 to 7.5 feet. The figure was big and bulky, the shoulders very wide and the legs very thick, but all clearly humanoid shaped. The inside of the outline was very dark shimmering-like light couldn’t escape (best way I can describe it) but the outline was clearly visible. It turned towards me and we just stood there looking at each other for several seconds. I don’t know how I knew it could see me, but I did. At this point I did not feel any fear, I was just stunned, trying to understand what I was seeing. It then slowly turned and walked off into the darkness.

At this point I jumped from my bed and ran to my parents room, I woke up my mother and tried to tell her what I had seen but she insisted it was a “bad dream”. I knew it wasn’t. She got up and continued to get ready for work. She tried to laugh it off but I kept insisting and did not want her to go outside because the big, invisible man would get her I feared. At that point she didn’t want to hear any more about it. I think I was somewhat in shock and traumatized by the experience. So I said nothing else about it.

However, several days later, there was a small article in our local paper “The Monitor” about a local woman who had see the same EXACT thing I saw, only she reported it to the police. As I recall the article made the woman out to be a “crazy lunatic”. My mother read this article to me and we both just sat there stunned. She then questioned me about it again and told me not to tell anyone. I suppose she didn’t want to expose me to ridicule. To this day she refuses to talk about the ordeal.

What is even scarier is that some time after this incident I began to recall more and more of the events that happened before I heard the noise outside. I remember laying in my bed, unable to move. This being shining a light in my eyes and “telling" me that they would be gone shortly (no words were exchanged though). I remember feeling like I was wrapped in thick jell-o. I could see another being in my room looking through my dresser drawers, for what, I have no idea. The being was shining a flashlight looking device into my draws only the light (greenish) was coming OUT of my drawers not going INTO my dresser drawers, but the light moved when the being moved the “flashlight”. I remember starting to panic then all of a sudden feeling calm. The first being again “told” me (without words) that they would be done soon and that I would not remember anything and it would be okay. The next thing I remember is waking up to stand up on my bed to look out the window.

I have no idea what they were looking for or why. Perhaps I had found something and they wanted it back. I don’t know and probably never will.

I have never told this story to anyone other than my mother. I have not even told my partner of 18 years this story.

Talking Ernie / Haunted House

“My mom had an Elmo doll collection. That one had been given to her although she didn’t collect Ernie, just Elmo. She didn’t want to be impolite so she kept it. I was a teenager and she had been granted custody of us after a long battle with mental illness and drug abuse hence why we were taken away in the first place. Many evil things took place in the house. It was really old and many nefarious individuals came through that house due to her soon after relapse. Even some hardened criminal drug dealers had been scared out of their minds due to seeing something not of this world in the house.

The collection of dolls were kept in her bedroom, the main hub of the illegal actions although paranormal things happened all throughout the house. Ernie was the only toy that would talk by himself. I would be in the living-room and could hear him 'talking' inside the closet in her room. This happened even without batteries LONG AFTER. Although I want to believe any of the normal reasonable explanations, I know that in context to that house, the activity, and that room in particular, is too coincidental. Someone got possessed, we all saw ghosts/demon entities particularly around the old bathroom next to her room, and white sage would burn in every room except one where it would always go out no matter what.

After she finally went back to jail and long after we had all escaped the drug home, we saw the next tenants had on every wall in that house some Jesus/Virgin Mary/Saint/giant cross placed. Even on the front door and next to windows outside. I was too embarrassed to go and ask if they too had any paranormal activity because it was pretty clear they had that house blessed with whatever they could find and place. I could write a book about those years and that house. Sorry for the overshare. I never talk about it but see a lot of people divulge info on these stories. Upside Down Gargoyle

I recently found the following account:

I never talked about this because it happened when I was younger and I thought I was crazy but after telling my SO I thought I’d share.

About 8 years ago when I was younger I let my dogs out on my back porch around 3am and I noticed something different near the sky. About two houses away is a power pole maybe 30 feet up and I noticed something on top if it, it was a silhouette like upside down gargoyle statue. I thought not much of it as a dumb kid would do but I got freaked out and locked all my doors after letting my dogs in it was not there anymore.

Nothing has happened since then at least that I can recall until 2 years ago and last year. Both times the same thing. Me being woken up by tapping on my window, nothing too weird yet my window is 12 feet above ground. First time it happened I just ignored it and slept but the second time we had cameras and one was backyard cameras so naturally I checked it and saw nothing. S

Reptilian in Walmart

I recently received the following account:

It was Fall of 1998. I suddenly found myself separated from my husband and with two preteen children to support. Living in a small Kansas town, there was very limited employment options. I needed to remain close to home to attempt to keep a handle on preteen adolescents and still keep a roof over our heads.

It was convenient when I saw an ad for workers at our local Walmart. The store was converting to a Super Store and needed staff 24/7. So I applied. I got hired on as a department manager.

I got dug in. I laid out the department and everything on the shelves on the day of the opening, including the shelves themselves, was put there by my two hands.

The new store opened and school had started so I tried to keep my hours mostly to accommodate that, but weekend work was mandatory. Usually I got to work early, There was only light register staff and I’d be the first department manager on the floor. It was early days for the new store, but the majority of the set up crew had departed the job site.

One morning I arrived even earlier than usual. I had timed in and was just about to leave the freight room, when a young boy, about the age of my own two kids, rushed past me, nearly knocking me over. He started sputtering something about how his “ID” had been lost and he had to see CCTV to see who picked it up.

The first thing weird about this, is that I didn’t know this kid. My kids grew up in this town and being a small town, I thought I knew all the kids from town and all parts around. The second weird thing was, back in 1998, it would be very unusual for any small town preteen to have an ID of any kind.

I told him I knew nothing about it, but he could follow me back to the office to inquire. There was only one lady back in the office. She was a member of the set-up team, and had been responsible for hiring me. I left him with her after a short explanation, and went out on the floor to begin my day. But I forgotten my scanner. So, I turned heal and went back into the office area to get one.

Immediately I could hear this kid becoming very aggressive with my co-worker. He was ranting on; insisting that he view the CCTV tape immediately! The Human Resource officer was trying to calmly explain to him that only security staff and the store manager could view it, and she would pass on his concern.

Worried about my coworker’s safety, I crept closer to the door, which remained open. His back was to me, but looking past him I could clearly see, her whitened shocked face.

The boy, sensing my presence, swung around and stormed past me and I assume, flew out of the building.

“Did you see his eyes “! “Did you see his eyes”, she exclaimed!

Though in fact I had, I said nothing. I think I was basically gobsmacked. And as it turned out, I never again spoke to her. That was the last time I saw her. When I inquired after her, I was told she was transferred, though others whispered, she had been fired by home office.

The third weird thing was, look into the eye of a snake, and you will know what I saw as the boy fled by me.

Huge Mysterious Winged Being

Gina Maria from Washington called to tell of her weird sighting:

“My experience happened in eastern Washington in a town called Leavenworth on Seagull Creek Drive. I was on my daughter’s great grandparents piece of land. They had like a mountain behind their house. We parked on the edge of the woods. There was a grassy field behind us. We put the tent up. We had the van. We had a cooler and everything and my boyfriend at the time, he had woken up and he had made himself a sandwich and then went for a walk in the woods. And I was laying there and I was sleeping and I heard an incredible whooshing sound. This is so hard to explain...an incredible whooshing sound, like, 'Whoosh! Whoosh!' And then, all of a sudden, my tent started collapsing from the velocity and force from these wings that were so big. I’m inside the tent now, keep in mind, so I don’t actually see it except for the shadow of it. But it must have been an 18 feet total wingspan. You know, your tent is 6 feet, or 5 feet-6 feet on either side of that and it was collapsing my tent. And I woke up to this just freaked out. I had come out of my tent. This is the strange part. My boyfriend had put on top of the cooler a loaf of bread and whatever this was, with the talons, it picked up the loaf of bread and was like screaming and freaking out on the tent. It dropped it like twenty feet away. I don’t know but the wings, it had to be 15 to 18 feet, probably 18 feet.”

Strange Commute

My name is Tara and I live in West Hollywood, CA, but work in the city of Long Beach which is an hour commute. I love listening to the show each way to work and back. Last night while I was listening to an older episode, there was a story being told of first hand accounts where people with near death experiences feel a third man guiding them back to life. It was then while the story was being told about a man who bought a new car that stalled out at a light, before almost being T-boned by a car that ran a red light. As these details were being spoken through my car speakers I was driving through a green light when I felt the need to break while listening about his car stalling. Just as I continued to drive through the intersection a car sped through their red light as the story continued to detail how he too would have been T-boned at the exact moment I spread up avoiding being T-boned. Luckily the only difference is that the oncoming car did not hit a light post, bu instead fishtailed away. It was an extremely eerie feeling to have that moment exactly narrated in detail as it was actually happening to me. I’m thankful the story had a positive ending! Tara

Maine Big Game Guide Baffled By Activity

I recently received the following account. Was it Bigfoot...or something else?

So this happened about 2 or 3 years ago in the Central Maine area which (in this area) is very thick woods. My dad is a Maine guide and he isn’t someone to believe in anything like this. He is a very rational and sane person and doesn’t just jump to conclusions.

So anyway, him and 2 or 3 other guides were out in training season for bear hunting with dogs. They were running the dogs for a good 2 hours or so, called the dogs back and decided to try another place which was nearby to another one of his bear baits. They let the dogs go and they start running into the woods but still in eyesight, and all of a sudden start acting extremely weird. The dogs start cowering and backing up, which of course isn’t normal for dogs that are trained to run big game. The group of hunters there have never seen any of the dogs act like this, they seemed truly scared of what was beyond the tree line. But it got weirder.

They see good sized tree tops about 100 yards or so in the distance start shaking as whatever it was, was making its way through the thick woods. There was cracking, and snapping of trees on for a good 20-30 seconds before you couldn’t see or hear anything anymore. Of course they thought it could’ve been a moose making the ruckus, but the trees were massive that were being moved and it wouldn’t explain the dogs acting the way they did.

My old man is the smartest person I’ve ever met when it came to the Maine woods and has been in this particular area his whole life and a Maine guide 40+ years and has never ever seen anything like this, not to mention the others that were there. When everything calmed down, they tied up the dogs and made their way in. There were many broken branches, and the only tracks they found was going down a semi-steep hill where it was sandy enough to get a imprint of any sort. He said it didn’t look like a hoofed animal. There were huge tracks but hard too make out a full print due to whatever it was sliding down the hill. They talked for a while about it and one of his friends that were there had a game camera set up nearby as he was hoping to be able to catch it on film. Unfortunately there was nothing and must’ve went in another direction. CD

'Embarrassed' Black-Eyed Kid

Brooke in Greenlea, Colorado called to tell of a strange encounter he had:

“I had an experience about 13 years ago. It's quite different from the experiences you're talking about. I worked in a psychiatric hospital in an adolescent unit in Ventura, California. I worked the night shift and I would often find myself hanging out in the night with the kids that couldn't sleep. There was this one young fellow who couldn't sleep and he was in his room. I was in his room sitting on his desk and he was about two feet away from me and I was looking straight in his eyes. We were talking. All of a sudden his eyes went black, like that man in that 'Men In Black' movie, you know, but they went black. He was leaning up against the wall with his arms crossed and it was almost like he became really embarrassed about it and he gently pushed me out of the way, ran past me out of the room, down the hall. He jumped over the nurses desk, did like a karate roll back up onto his feet and ran into the padded cell room and slammed the door. He wouldn't come out for the rest of my shift. I'm as sure that that happened as I'm sure I'm talking to you right now, man. He had a family. The other children on the unit knew him from school so it's a little different.”

Dementors?

“One night I was walking by this creepy vacant house (it had been vacant on and off with nobody lasting more than three months). It was around 3:00 AM and all of a sudden this 3D shadow looking thing (like the Dementors from Harry Potter) started walking parallel to me almost at the same pace but different enough for me to notice something off. I shrugged it off as me being tired for a second but decided to completely halt in order for me to make sure it wasn’t my own shadow. Sure enough this thing continued walking and as I stared in disbelief. It suddenly started sinking into the street as if there were invisible stairs under the ground. Seeing that shook me to the core and I ran the rest of the way home. I have no doubt in my mind that house had something to do with it. Huge Bat-Winged Being in Wauconda, Illinois

Tobias Wayland of the Singular Fortean Society and Phantoms & Monsters Fortean Research received the following eyewitness account from Wauconda, Illinois:

On April 20th, 2014 Paula was sitting near a window in the bedroom of her ground-level apartment near the Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda when she saw a bright beam of light “come shooting down” across the street at around 11 p.m.

“It was so bright and defined,” said Paula.

The light, which lasted between 15 and 20 seconds, was an orange/gold color and did not illuminate its surroundings; nor did it move much, making only a slight “side-to-side or back-and-forth” motion.

The light retracted at one point, only to reappear a moment later.

Paula fell back onto her bed in shock.

“Oh my god, this thing sees me!” she remembers thinking. “I had the deepest feeling this thing saw me, it knows.”

But the light retracted a final time and was gone.

“I heard a hum at the end, just before it took off,” said Paula.

Two years later, in 2016, also on April 20th, Paula encountered a terrifying winged being in the same area. She was taking the garbage out just before 6 a.m. when something drew her eye from across the street. In the early morning gloom she saw a huge, winged being.

Paula described the being as perhaps 7-8’ tall when standing erect, but it carried itself hunched over, limping along. It was completely black, and from what she could see its upper body and head were covered in hair. The being had long, leathery wings which were partially wrapped around its body as it moved towards Paula; jumping forward similarly to watching someone move through a strobe light. The terrifying creature made an unnatural groaning noise as it advanced.

Paula felt a palpable sense of evil emanating from the bat-winged monster.

“This is evil,” she recalled. “I’m seeing evil.”

Fearing for her safety, she quickly turned to flee back into her apartment. After fumbling with her keys for a moment, she opened the door and turned around, terrified that the creature might be right behind her—but it was gone.

Paula said that she only knew a few of her neighbors personally, and unfortunately the ones she knew had not witnessed either event; although one of her neighbors with whom she was friends did take her encounters seriously.

“I don’t know what to say,” Paula said of her experiences. “But I know what I saw.”
