Black Eyed Kid...or Malevolent Spirit?
I recently received the following account:
Sir,
I came upon this website about a month ago doing research of something a friend mentioned to me. I come here periodically to read what people send you and many I find very interesting. However there were a few that brought back a incident I experienced many years ago. But I must say this; I am in my mid 70's now and this happened when I was about 12 years old. Now I am a college graduate, combat veteran and served for 25 years in law enforcement and in my life not too many things have made me very nervous but this incident was so odd I actually suppressed it.
It was in late August because school was to begin in a couple of weeks. My best friend, my dog, and I went into the woods and up the hill behind our property. At the top there was a huge rock dome of basalt. On one end was a gradual slope up to the top and at the far end it dropped off at a shear cliff that was from 5 feet in height oi over 30 feet with many sharp boulder and rock at the bottom, a place to stay away from and not play around. These woods were magical; where you could sit and look out over the valley to the houses on the other side or look down to see the main highway, train tracks and river that ran through the area. There were deer and all other kinds of wildlife to observe.
This particular day as I was starting up to the top of the rock I came upon my dog standing still, growling with the hair on his back standing and he was poised to attack. I grabbed his collar but he kept looking straight forward. I thought another dog was there but when I looked where he was looking I saw a boy sitting on a higher portion of the rock with his legs crossed, hunched over as if he was looking at the ground in front of him. His back was to me. After a moment or two I heard him ask me if I played up here. I told him yes. He then said he played up here too. I asked him "when" because I never saw him before. His reply was, something like "A LONG TIME AGO." I thought that was odd because he looked to be a few years younger than me. He then asked if I would like to play with him and my dog began to growl and pull forward. I grabbed the collar with both hands to keep him from doing anything. I told the kid I would play but he looked up a little and said lets play over there indicating the cliff area. I told him no. The boy's response was in a loader voice saying he wanted to play over there, again raising his head toward the cliff. I said no again. MY dog really tried to jump toward him and I dropped down into a crouch to hold him back. At this time my dog really growled. I looked up and the kid was sitting on the rock in the same position but now facing me but looking down at the ground. This time he raised his head a little and I got a look at him. His hair was the blackest hair I ever saw. So black that it didn't shine, just black! His eyebrows were the same deep black but his eyes were all black, no white in them, cold and empty. Then came a deep commanding voice that seemed to come from every direction even up through the ground were I could feel it going through my body saying 'I WANT TO PLAY OVER THERE!' My dog really tried to charge him but I just held on. In a few seconds the dog was standing not growling and looking from left to right and calm. I looked up and the kid was not sitting on the rock, just gone. I walked toward where he was sitting thinking he may be hiding but there was not place for him to hide. As I got to where he was sitting I noticed my dog did not want to be near the area. I looked and the small plants there were wilted. I turned away and started back down the hill and as I passed the clump of bushes I happened to look up the other rise about two hundred yards away I saw the boy watching me as he stood by a tree. There was no way the kid could have run that distance and that fast without making noise in the fallen leaves without myself or the dog hearing him.
When school started I never saw him and everyone I described him to never saw or knew him either. To this day I truly believe that if my dog was not with me that day I would never have come out of those woods alive. Now looking back and remembering the articles I read on your website I feel I met a BLACK EYED KID.
Sorry this is so long but I needed to relate this experience to someone who may understand.

Large Bat-Winged Humanoid Encountered Near Winnipeg, Manitoba
Tobias Wayland at The Singular Fortean Society, who is also a team member of Phantoms & Monsters Fortean Research, was contacted recently by 'Karri,' a woman who said that, in the late summer of 2009, she and her then-partner were travelling from Kenora, Ontario, to Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada, when they saw a “large, human, bat-like being” fly across the road in front of them.
According to Karri’s initial sighting report:
"It has taken me many many years to begin to research what I witnessed in the summer of 2009. I am 41 years old and tried to deny it, but I no longer can. I was not alone [during my sighting], I was with my partner of 11 years at the time. He and I are both artists and tattooed out of a Canadian town called Kenora, [but were] born in Winnipeg. We would drive back to Winnipeg weekly to visit family and friends, and [spend] a week in each place.
We were driving from Kenora to Winnipeg in the evening time, [along] a slit double-sided highway [called] Highway Number 1. It’s a very common area for deer so your eyesight as passenger is [used] watching for deer, and that’s when we both saw it. It was a matter of seconds, but we saw a black void in the lights of oncoming cars on the opposite side of the highway; [at first] thinking it was probably a deer, when our headlights [caught] it. I know what I saw and [my partner] saw the very same thing; it was a black-skinned, bald, [unclothed] human, but it was flying lower to ground-height of our Tacoma trucks lights and it shielded its face from the light by flipping its wing up.
I’ve tattooed bat images before, and the webbing skin in a wing with the veining is thin—it was just like that. I could only describe it as a human bat, but [it had] no hair that I saw; [instead it had] more textured skin.
I know I sound crazy, but that is what we saw and it’s haunted me ever since. I tried to look into it straight after, but was too scared. It made [me] question everything. I even went to see a priest...I’ve never spoken about this with strangers before, just close loved ones. I hope this can help in your research and timeline. Thank you kindly, keep safe."
Tobias corresponded with the witness via email to get further details of her sighting:
"It was the very end of our Canadian summer, in the end of July or beginning of August," Karri said. "We were traveling at a decent speed and [the creature] appeared to have a good speed of its own going. I'd like to say, by the time it had hit our side of the highway it was six feet [away from us] and its length would have me say it was over [six feet tall]."
"The time had been between 7-8 pm, as we closed up shop at 6:30 pm and left from work to Winnipeg," she added. "Our sun sets at our closing time that time of year, and I know [the creature was close to our vehicle] because we slammed on the breaks. As far as wingspan, I could not tell you, but [the wings] appeared to be in proportion with its body. Wish I could tell you more details, but it was [over in a] matter of seconds. I just know that we saw black voids in front of other cars’ headlights, and that when it was in front of ours I saw what we both saw. A wing coming forward to shield its face and then it was gone."
Like others who have witnessed similar, seemingly impossible events, this experience left a lasting impression on Karri. However, unlike many other witnesses, she had the benefit of being believed by her parents and the family’s priest.
“It made me feel shock and disbelief at first," she said. "It was honestly the scariest situation I had found myself in. We came into Winnipeg and both of us told our parents, convinced they would think us both to be crazy or on drugs, neither was the case, and both our parents believed us and said there are things in this world one cannot explain. [Our] priest gave us holy water and said ‘We walk in the valley of death’; a saying I’ve heard growing up on occasion but didn’t understand [until then]. I was terrified, the entire situation had me questioning everything I had known, [and] made me think of the world in an entirely different way."
"As pathetic as it sounds we didn’t go anywhere alone [after our sighting], even inside our cabin on the water, if I went pee or made a snack [my partner] came with me," she continued. "We didn’t express what happened to [people other than our parents] at first, due to thinking people would say we’ve gone mad. I pondered if it was evil, if God rejected me. I really didn’t know how to feel or think."
Over time, the profundity of the experience faded into the background.
"Once we moved back home, the feeling eventually eased up; much like a death you mourn for so long and with each day you slowly get back to life, not forgetting, just learning to live again," Karri explained. "It took me at least a year until I would go anywhere alone in the evening time. I’ve never in my life seen anything like this again."
Ultimately, Karri could find no easy answers to explain the encounter, although she has found some comfort in her faith.
"[I've] seen drawings that were similar, which made me feel less alone in it," she said. "I did get baptized years later, my partner never did. We were close friends for over 10 years before we got together and remained together for 11 years. This situation...we both don’t have answers for what we saw, but we know in our souls what we felt and experienced to be true, and as a mature aged adult now, I am still 100% sure as to what I saw in that brief moment and no one could ever tell me otherwise."

VW-Sized Cryptid 'Wolf' Seen Chasing Deer in Phelps, Wisconsin
I recently received the following account:
Hi this isn't a story about any flying mothman, but what I saw terrifies me and still does to this day.
It was late fall, probably early November, and I was picking up my daughter from her friends house in Phelps, WI. I live in Eagle River so it's about a 20 min drive. It was early evening not quite dark yet. I turned from northbound HWY 17 on to St. Louis Road. I came around the corner and noticed a deer running fast across the street, an often occurrence. I slowed the car down in case there were more, when a giant wolf creature came out one side of the road in chase of the deer. It leaped the entire width of the road and paused to look at me. This was no ordinary wolf. It was the size of a VW bug at least. Gigantic! But the weird part about it was the way it moved.
It was almost like animated or it like moved like a machine. It was wolf-colored but it had bright orange eyes. After it looked at me it seemed annoyed with me and continued into the forest to continue its chase. The hair stood up on my whole body and I just sat there wondering what was that thing. Everytime I take that road I am scared that I will see it again. But I only saw it once. I never saw it again and no one believes me. They say, 'Oh, you saw a wolf' and I say, 'that was no wolf!'
I still don't know what it was but I was fully awake. I don't drink or do drugs. I know what I saw! Unfortunately I wasn't keen enough to take a picture and it all happened so fast. This event happened in 2018, but I will never forget it! MD

Red Eyes in the Window
“My son said he was startled by something with red eyes looking in his bedroom window, on the second story of the back of the house and at least 9-10 ft off the ground in Waco, GA. He is 35 and has no reason to lie. When it happened, it was the first time we had never heard the frogs carrying on in the pond. It was dead silent. The next morning, we had an awful stench coming from the back room of our house. Our dog was too scared to come out from under the house. We haven't had it happen again and hope it doesn't anytime soon. I'm in Waco, Georgia on the Alabama line on 16 acres of woods with surrounding wooded properties. I believe they are in GA and they keep on the move. When this incident occurred it was spring and the cold weather had just let up. All we know is that there was something out there that was pretty dang tall and smelled real bad.” MB

'Dogman' Observed, Then Vanished, Along Highway in Michigan's Upper Peninsula
“My daughter and I were driving home in rural Michigan Upper Peninsula during the summer of 2018. We were almost home when we saw this strange black being that was running faster than animal I’ve ever seen. At first she said, 'What is that?' Then she said, 'It looks like a werewolf'. Then I paused and said, 'That may be a Dogman!'
It ran on all fours and had a long body that was very muscular. The face looked like that of a wolf in a way, but also something about it looked human. It’s hard to put in words. I kept my eyes on it the whole time. Its body seemed to be running in, like, glitches. It ran so fast, but it was also looking in our direction. My daughter was so freaked out by it! I was just kind of amazed and kept saying that was either a Werewolf or a Dogman. I could see its teeth for a second, which were that of a wolf. But the face was half-human and animal. It ran so amazingly fast, faster than any animal I’ve ever seen. The darkness of its color was also kind of strange because it was so deep black. Once it was past us, it disappeared. I never took my eyes off it once. It just vanished! This is hard to put into words what we saw and how it happened but I’m telling you, it’s the truth!
I’m 61 years old and my daughter is 41 years old. I’m not telling this for entertainment. I’m telling it because it’s the truth! It wasn’t the size of a dog because of the strange length of its body being so long compared to a normal dog. The face was bizarre being half human and half wolf. I go by this area daily and often when I’m with my daughter I ask her if she believes what we saw. She doesn’t like to even talk about it amongst just ourselves because she is still so freaked out about it and there is no one who can actually say for certain, 'yes, that is what you saw.' My first thought was Werewolf, but I’ve read stories of others in Michigan who have had these strange experiences with what is called a Dogman, so I’ll never know 100% what I saw. All I know is that it was something very strange and not normal. The reason I didn’t have that fear probably was because I was in a car. It was still very light out and it ran across the road in front of us. Although I do have to say, later on, I thought I hope it didn’t follow us home.
I think about this experience almost daily. The way it ran was so bizarre. It happened so fast, though I wish I could have captured a picture. My daughter is so spooked out about it that she still gets shaken talking about it. I believe there is lots of things out there that we just don’t know about yet!” CF

Large Dark Winged Being Encountered on I-90 Near Illinois / Wisconsin State Line
I recently received the following account:
Hi Lon,
I've been meaning to reach out for some time now and finally am. I became aware of you from a Chicago Mothman video on YouTube around a year and half ago. I have occasionally shared my story through the years, which isn't a whole lot with others, when paranormal topics arise. My wife recently purchased 'Mothman Dynasty' as a gift and I did feel it was very thoughtful. I'm roughly halfway through it. I also listened to a podcast by members of your team while extensively traveling last month.
The slight difference between my story and many of the others in your book is the time frame. My sighting was December 2007. It occurred about a mile or two past the Illinois state line from Wisconsin on I-90 southbound around 4 or 5am. I was very tired while making an attempt to travel from Northern Minnesota to Western NY with my son who I picked up for the holidays. I basically wasn't trying to pay for a hotel and did eventually stop at a rest area a couple hours later I believe.
I saw a dark silhouette on my front left side in the darkness ahead and didn't really think anything of it until it came into my headlights. What I saw flew straight across the road (like a cross street) at a decent speed but not in a flash. From what I recall it was dark brown and it was possibly the length (top to bottom) as the width of my car. I don't recall a body but may I may be intentionally blanking it out. I saw a leather like wing flapping down for sure. It seemed oval. I don't recall a tail or head.
The one picture behind the big Indian in Chicago may be the closest thing to what I recall. Most descriptions in your book don't seem to represent what I saw. I say this because what I saw didn't fly fluidly or smoothly. It was awkward and far from the flap of an eagle. When it left my headlights view I could see the same silhouette on my right in the dark.
My first impression was something prehistoric but not the wing of what I believe a Pteranodon would look like. Another first impression that was immediate was the hair on the back of neck my standing up realizing I saw something unexplained. I was scared but not terrified and can't recall how long I stayed on the road after but do recall as long as I could. I did try an internet search a couple months later that had an interactive map and the closest thing I found was a sighting probably 20 miles south from mine. Someone described an awkward flying creature flying away from them during dusk and that's about the closest description to my sighting I heard. ST

Arkansas Bigfoot Encounter Deeply Haunts Eyewitness
“It was back in 2010, right before the sun was coming up one morning while hunting with college buddies in Arkansas. We stayed overnight and I got up earlier and went out with my dog to try and view the path we would be taking that morning and get a general sense of the area. We walked for about a mile, and my dog out of nowhere stopped, his hair raised up on the back of his neck, ears went forward at attention and growled. He then made a whimpering sound and looked at me and barked at me. He then booked, and I could hear him barking from a distance. I felt very uneasy, very motionless, like I couldn’t move and just a sense of terror. I thought it was a cougar.
I had my sidearm on me so I grabbed it. I checked to make sure I was ready to fire while looking around. It was then, ahead of me by this stream, a full-sized male Bigfoot stood up. His breath was visible because it was so cold. He was breathing heavy. I could smell him. The only way I can describe the smell is like a skunk but not a skunk. It’s as strong as a skunk smell. After making eye contact he screeched at me in an absolute threat. I looked down, keeping him in my line of sight but not eye contact and slowly backed away facing him. I knew if he came towards me I’d put him down, I’m a good shot. I’ll never forget the eyes, the smell, the fear. It haunts me in my dreams. I don’t go deep into the woods, don’t go camping or hiking anywhere there isn’t a lot of people or tourists and traffic anymore. Don’t stay overnight hunting. Refuse to hunt/camp anywhere on the northwest of the country. I believe they are everywhere in North America. I basically duck hunt now and that it.
I’ve found out since then that there are more people that have seen them in Arkansas. Which is not where I’m from but where I went to college. It changed my life. And if it weren’t for being a positive 'glass half full' kind of guy, it could’ve sent me down a dark path. My experience was not one of wonder and amazement. My encounter was sheer terror.
More detail of the incident. I was up on a ridge. He was at least 3 feet below me and met my line of sight. I’m 6’3. He was anywhere between 8-10 feet tall. 400+lbs of lean muscle. Eyes were dark like a great white shark. Forehead low, back of head tall to a point. Flat nose. And flat teeth. Dark hair, it was still dark out. The sun was just coming up. I have PTSD and I can’t tell people why. Even though I function fine. The fact that I know other things exist means other things exist. And it is terrifying. As I left I felt I was being watched the rest of the time I was there. I told my buds I was leaving. I was shaken up and they could tell. I ended up pulling my truck over and just crying uncontrollably not understanding why. I now think it was able to get into my head or put me under a trance. I don’t know. I just know they aren’t to be taken lightly. And they’ll kill you if you disturb them.” JE

“My sister lives in Rabun County, in Clayton, Georgia, and a couple years ago (around 2016) as she was driving close to Warwoman Road one evening, she turned a bend in the road, and a Bigfoot was standing at the edge of the woods. She called the police and filed a report. I fully believe her, and her description is of a Bigfoot - not a bear.” MS

Terrifying 'Geometric Shaped' Humanoid in Northern California
“A few years back, I had a weird encounter behind my house. There’s a bunch of trees and Manzanita bushes behind my house, typical Northern California flora. My black Lab was outside around 11:30 pm when she let out the most scared sounding bark I’ve ever heard. I went out to see what she was barking at and started shining my flashlight around. I didn’t initially see anything. The dog barked again, and I caught sight of the humanoid creature as it shifted positions.
It was maybe 15 feet away from me. The encounter lasted probably 2 minutes. The creature was very geometric and generally thin. It’s body was rectangular, maybe 2 feet across, long and vertically oriented. No tapering at either the hip or shoulder. It was partially rounded on the edges, but I would hesitate to describe it as being cylindrical. Its arms seemed longer than its legs, though I admit it could have been crouching. Depending on whether it was crouching or not, I would say it was most likely between 5 and 7 feet tall. At the end of each thin arm was a hand with 6 fingers, long, almost bony. 3 of the fingers were really thick, while the other 3 were much thinner. It had a thin neck, thinner than its arms. Its head is the part that really freaked me out. It was as wide as its body, and totally featureless. No face, no ears, nothing indicating the presence of eyes or a mouth. The head was wider at the top than the bottom, still possessing that rectangular/cylindrical appearance as the body. It’s overall appearance was unnaturally smooth, its lines were too straight, and the exterior was an incredible shiny black color. I shined my light on the creature more directly, and in spite of not appearing to have any eyes, it seemed to hone in on the flashlight beam, sort of tilting its head and partially pulling itself from behind the tall grass and fallen limb it had been near. It made no sound when it moved, even though I could see the grass moving and see a rather large branch snap as it shifted its weight. I couldn’t tell if it thought I was predator or prey, or if it even thought about me at all.
At this point, I decided I didn’t want to stick around to find out what it was doing or why. I am very scientifically minded. I seek to find the rational explanation for things before entertaining the notion that it could be a supernatural phenomenon. I probably would have discounted the whole thing as my eyes playing tricks on me in the dark had my dog not been so visibly perturbed by the encounter. I’ve never seen her shake like that. There are deer, mountain lions, coyotes, all kinds of animals around my house. She doesn’t care about any of them. Whatever this was left her scared to go outside for several days afterward. I wouldn’t describe the encounter as negative. Terrifying, yes, but the unknown often is. I haven’t seen the creature again. I still get goosebumps every time I think about it.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this creature I’ve described? I’d love to get some opinions on the encounter. I saw the branch snap. The creature had a hand on it, and when it shifted its position, the branch snapped away from the limb it was attached to. It made no sound when it snapped. I could hear my breathing, the sounds of insects behind me back up toward the house, and the sound of passing cars on my street. The dog was barking, and I could hear her movements. But the creature itself, as well as anything near it or behind where it stood made no sound whatsoever.” AH

Large Winged Humanoid Observed in Hobbs, NM Oilfield
I recently received the following account:
I'm writing this based on what I saw going to work one morning in September 2018. I rather like to stay anonymous. I live on the state line of New Mexico and Texas. I left my home at 4:30 am to head into work in Seminole, TX to open up at 6:00 am. The drive takes about 30 minutes. I always took Rt.214 to Rt.3306 all the way to the Seminole Highway. This morning will always be with me, as I turned onto Rt.3306 maybe a mile or so I see a large man. So I slowed down because I thought it was odd to see a man on the electric pole so early in the morning. But as I got closer, I saw no truck or any indication that someone was servicing the electrical pole. That's when I saw a huge man crouch over with large black feathered wings extending down its back and a bony spine in-between the wings with his head down to his chest. I didn't look back. SS
I contacted the witness and they offered a bit more information. The area of the sighting was in Hobbs, New Mexico...a location with a lot of crude oil pumps. The dark winged humanoid had grasped onto the electrical pole near the top. The winged were definitely feathered and quite large. The body was membraned or bare skin. The head was small and round with no observable features. The witness estimated that the total body length was 8-9 foot.
The witness is of Navajo heritage and they stated that this type of winged being was described to her in the past by their grandfather. He had described it as a form taken by a Skinwalker and that it was a malevolent being. The witness said that there have been large flying beings seen in the area in the past, but they feel that these other sightings were of large birds or Thunderbirds.
The witness provided a sketch of the humanoid they observed (below).
The witness was very fearful of receiving ridicule by the local populace, so it is important to maintain anonymity. The location is approximately 50 mile southeast of Roswell, NM. Lon

Tall White Faceless Humanoid Stalked Northwest Missouri Farm
“We saw something we can't explain. About a year ago (2018), I was out back with my family. It was around 8 pm and the sun was setting. We lived in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, the closest neighbor was far away. Something down the field kept catching my eye, but I ignored it at first. My sister saw it too and kept looking out towards the trees. She was getting freaked out about it. My mom said to go investigate, so my sister and I started to walk across the field towards the treeline. Big mistake.
It's hard for me to describe. This was the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me. I didn’t see it at first and I didn’t understand why my sister was so scared, until we were about 100 yards away. Then I saw this creature. Tall, probably 8 or 9 feet tall. White, humanoid with an elongated head and no face. It had long arms and peaked around the trees. We stopped in our tracks. We couldn’t tell what it was. It took a few steps further out of the trees and swayed back and forth at me like a praying mantis!
My sister and I ran screaming back to the house, where my mom stood, jaw dropped. She saw it too. I had never been so scared in my life. We grab the binoculars and watched this terrifying creature peak in and out of the treeline, spying on us. My grandma thought we all had a wild imagination. The sun was almost gone now and it was getting really dark, and the darker it got, the more it moved. Back and forth along the trees. It was terrifying, so we went in for the night and locked everything up tight.
I couldn't sleep that night. I was hearing scratching on the roof, and at one point, a very loud bang and various noises coming from the barn. I was very afraid that I would wake up to my animals missing. The next morning my grandma asked if we heard the loud bang outside that night. She ended up taking my grandpa with her on her morning walk. I have no idea what it was and it haunts me to this day. I was in Northwest Missouri. I believe it to be both paranormal and physical, it was a scary in-between. It was hard to look at.
I believe it wanted us. I was so afraid to look out the window, and I still am. Afraid to see that blank face on the other side of the glass. And on almost every night, the crickets would be chirping and there would at least be some kind of animal noise and movement. But on this night, the world was dead silent and still. It gives me chills just talking about it. I do believe this creature was demonic.
I left this bit out cause it's hard to explain, but you know how heat distorts light? Like on a hot day, opening a car door, releases heat and it casts a slight shadow on the ground. It felt like I was looking at a mirage. Like water that's not there on the road miles in front of you. But close. I would have thought it was a hallucination if everyone else didn’t see it too. it was not hot outside, it was getting dark. The shadows around it were moving, getting closer. Maybe it was the adrenaline or fear making me see things like that. But I do know the thing was real, and it came to the house that night. We could hear it outside and on the tin roof. I'm actually moving back to that farm house by the end of the month. I'm hoping not to see anything like that again.” MM

Mutilated Bulls Discovered on North Dakota Ranch
I have a story you might be interested in. It’s been a couple years now since it’s happened but I can remember it pretty well. My family is farmers and ranchers.
One Fall we started moving cattle closer to home for the winter. We moved the heifer pasture and noticed we were short a few bulls but weren’t too worried. There’s a creek in the pasture and they were probably holed up in some brush. A couple days later, dad was out in a field and came across one of the missing bulls, dead in the middle of the field. Some coyotes and eagles had been eating on it and couldn’t tell much but thought it was odd that he was out there dead when there was no sign of how he got out there and he had been healthy just a couple days earlier.
Later that day dad got curious and went looking for the last missing bull. He found it in the pasture, dead in a little flat spot. This one had not been eaten on. Nothing had touched it at all which was an odd sign. When dad found it there were no signs of how he had died. But there were some mutilations. The bull was missing his sheath, testicles, and anus. All of the missing parts had been what looked like surgically cut and removed in perfectly round circles.
At this point dad calls a vet in to do some looking, and as soon as she saw it she said “I can’t help you” and left. So since bulls were expensive and it wasn’t a natural death and we didn’t want this to happen again dad called the sheriff to come out and take a look. At this time I get off the bus from school and get to help take the sheriff’s deputy out to look at the bull and see it for the first time. I think I was about 6th grade at the time, and I made sure my gopher gun had a full clip when we headed out. For perspective the sheriff’s deputy set some weight lifting records in our school, and we were friends from him giving me rides to gun club from time to time, so I knew how he usually acted. Dad had me ride in with him to help for rocks and get there in the dark. He had every single light turned on and was using his hand flashlight to scan the creek and rows of brushy trees all around us. He was very nervous and was always on edge, which made me very uneasy, especially considering the surroundings. It was very quiet that night. I know a 17HMR wouldn’t do much against a bad guy but it sure would be something and I tried not to stray too far from it. The deputy took some pictures and we really tried to find a bullet hole or cut throat or dirt in the esophagus to tell what the cause of death was. We even rolled the bull over and still couldn’t find anything.
To this day I don’t know how those bulls died, but I know it wasn’t a natural death. We still have the pasture and I still think about it every time I ride through there, and I’m almost always packing some heat. From a little bit of research I’ve done and talking with a couple folks the possibilities I’ve come to are cult activity, witchcraft, aliens, or really messed up kids who somehow killed 2 one ton bulls. My best guess is the cult option, but good ole North Dakota isn’t exactly a hot spot for that kinda stuff. On YouTube there was an episode of some show called 'Cattle Mutilations: Unexplained Documentary' but it appears to be blocked now. That gave a good run down of a bit of history about stuff like this happening all over the U.S. CJ
NOTE: it has been noted before that scavengers will usually stay away from mutilated cattle. You don't read or hear many reports of cattle mutilations in North Dakota. Lon
