Liar, Liar Pants on Fire: The Interview with Magician James David

jameswithcards

At 7:30 a.m. I boarded a flight to Detroit. I made my way down the aisle to the coach section where we were packed into our tiny seats like eggs in a carton. I found myself seated next to a young serviceman. Army I think. He was in uniform and had carried on a duffel bag as if he were headed back to his base. A moment after we had both gotten situated, a guy makes his way back from the first class section, stops at my row and says, “Go take my seat. I’ll switch with you. You deserve it.” Woo...

Downtown Abbey

Yes, I meant to write DowntownAbbey. That’s the way us non-Downton watchers say it. I’m pretty sure it was supposed to be Downtown Abbey anyway. When they titled the show someone made a typo and nobody noticed until it was already on the telly. That’s a true fact that I made up.

Downton

Downton Abbey is just Harry Potter without the magic! What’s the point in that? It’s even got Professor McGonagle in it! The current Downton mania is out of hand. It’s like Downton is the British Breaking Bad. If only...

Throwback Thursdays! This Town isn’t Big Enough for Both of Us

This was originally posted on The Phil Factor back on Jan. 24, 2006. I still feel the same way today.

dr_phil_03

(1/24/2006)I hate Dr. Phil. I have many reasons for this. My opinion of him is so low that I feel fair in saying that he gives all Phils a bad name. Actually, it was my parents that gave me a bad name. I wanted to be called Scott. Back to Dr. Phil. Regardless of what college degree he has and how many pounds he helped Oprah lose, he is a crackpot. It is not good therapy to tell people how stup...

Sand by Hugh Howey

sand

I haven’t read Sand yet. I did read Hugh’s book Wool that made him a mega-star in the indie and real publishing world. It was a futuristic, sci-fi tale with a strong female protagonist and a surprise ending that you’ll love.

I will forever be a supporter of Hugh Howey’s work. At the end of last June when I had half as many blog, Facebook, and Twitter followers as I do now I e-mailed Hugh to ask him if I could interview him for The Phil Factor. Much to my surprise he answers his own e-mail and...

Review of Phil Taylor's "The Sneaker Tree"

Reblogged from marissabergen602:

Click to visit the original post

From the first time I read Phil Taylor's blog, I instantly knew this was a blogger I wanted to follow. Phil has a fresh and accessible voice and his sense of humor is both witty and familiar.

Thanks to Phil's brilliant marketing tactics, I was quickly made aware of the fact that Phil has written a couple of novels (all available on Amazon) one of which is "The Sneaker Tree."

Read more… 306 more words

Thank you to Marissa Bergen for reading and reviewing my book!...

I Have 3 Problems with The Polar Vortex

cat_cold_weather

So I thought to myself, “Phil, everyone loves cute, whimsical pictures of kittens. If you had a kitten on your blog more people would read it.” Seriously, how many of you saw the picture and said, “Awww!” and clicked on this to read more? Read on my frozen friends because the kitten wasn’t just a trap to lure you into my evil clutches. He’s related to the story. Prior to that sentence I had never thought of myself as having “evil clutches”, but there you go. It’s out there. It’s a thing. What...

Zombie Author Interview with Marie Lanza!

I guess I should rephrase the title. As you can see from the picture below, Marie Lanza is not a Zombie author. She is an author who writes Zombie stories. Not that I have anything against Zombies. If a Zombie who is also an author wanted to be on my blog I would happily invite him or her. Rob Zombie, if you’re reading this feel free to drop me a line. BTW, do I really need to capitalize the word Zombies? Who’s going to be offended if I don’t?

Since The Walking Dead premiered on AMC in October...

Help Wanted: Penguin Suit Nimrod

Help Wanted: Music Conductor. Why don’t I ever see that title in my Linked In e-mails? That’s a job I would apply for.

conductor

I was at my son’s high school jazz ensemble recital recently and there was an actual conductor. A stick holding, arm waving, page turning conductor. That is a job I think I could really throw myself into. I don’t have any relevant experience, but really, do you need any relevant experience? Maybe I spoke too soon. Actually, on second thought, I think do I have relevant experie...

Throwback Thursdays! The Table by the ATM

I first posted this on Jan. 11, 2007. It is one of my all time favorites because the vitriol and contempt I felt for these people was so genuine. I rarely get this worked up about anything.

atm-machine

I hate the people at the table by the ATM. I have never been one of the people at the table by the ATM, but that is not why I hate them. I choose not to be one of the people at the table by the ATM. The people at the table by the ATM have a choice and for some inexplicable reason they choose to sit at the t...

My Top Ten New Years Resolutions

10. Punch Edward Snowden in the nose:Because of him the government & NSA are going to change their technology monitoring policies in 2014. Well guess what? I fly to & from somewhere about four times a year. I don’t like the idea that the NSA is less likely to catch some terrorists plans. Thanks #EdwardSnowden

9.Go to Bobfest:My friend Bob, of the band Slurp Deluxe, has thrown a big party at his house every August for over twenty years. They send out about 200 invitations. It starts at 2:00 on...
