Something Free for My Blogging Friends
You know how you write your blog because you like to be read? I’m the same way. We value our thoughts and believe that some of our thoughts have value to others, whether it’s educational, thought provoking, or merely entertainment. Some of you may have noticed but never clicked on those book covers there on the right. I wrote those and I’m pretty proud of them.
Stephen King was once a school teacher sending stories to magazines. E.L. James of Fifty Shades of Greyfame originally self-publishedF...

Fun with Search Terms!
This is my quarterly Edward Snowden-like reminder that whenever you put a search term into Google, someone somewhere may be reading it. Here are some of the most unique search terms that have brought people to The Phil Factor, with what I hope is humorous commentary.
1.Original drummer Motorhead:
My secret is finally out and I’m so relieved. Yes, I was the drummer for a British heavy metal band in the 1980′s
2.Horniestintheland.com: When I do my ‘Fun with Search Terms’ post every 90 days or so t...

Throwback Thursdays! Confessions of a Little League Dad
This was originally written July 13, 2005. At that time I had three boys all playing Little League baseball. This post is my take on the overzealous sports parents that take the fun out of the game.
(7/13/2005) Aaaaah! It’s that time of year again. I’m in training and I can’t wait for the season to begin. This is the year my boys finally reach my goals and make me proud. I’m working out every day. I’ve got to bulk up just to make sure I’m bigger than my kids coach in case I need to kick his as...

The Anti-Social Network: Let’s Fix Facebook, If Only for a Day
Last year I started theFacebook National No Re-Post Day and in spite of my much smaller number of readers the idea caught on and was shared across the interwebs. Like the Groundhog, it’s time for it’s annual appearance. Read the rest and share.
Just last weekend I noticed it. I looked at my Facebook page and I thought,Facebook is broken. This isn’t the Facebook I signed up for. When I joined Facebook I wanted to talk to people. I wanted to share with family and friends. I wanted to know how man...

The Empire State Building
I just came across this in my phone and thought it was kind of a cool picture. I took it when I was in New York about a month ago. I was just walking down the street, turned a corner and there it was.

Throwback Thursdays! Daylight Stupid Time
This is my bi-annual reminder that this Saturday we move our clocks forward by an hour and my reminder that it’s stupid. I’ve been posting this since 2006 and will continue to do so until we do away with Daylight Savings Time.
When I’m elected President, or Sexiest Man Alive, whichever comes first, I’m going to pass a law getting rid of Daylight Savings Time. I don’t know if other countries do this. I do know that not all the U.S. states abide by it. Daylight Savings Time was created abo...

A Little Help From My Friends…
I know I have several friends in England who read my blog and several other friends who have visited there. IF the British government and TSA have no problem with me, I’ll be visiting London in about eight weeks. Over the course of a week I’ll have about 3 days to do whatever I want. One day I plan to go to Paris. The other two I have no plans for yet.
I’m hoping that some of you with local knowledge of London would, in the comments, give me some suggestions of “must see” things in London and...

The Snap Judgement Oscar Awards
I suppose it was unavoidable that I had to write a new Oscars post. Since I rarely go see movies I’m going to make my Oscar predictions based on the commercials and my own convoluted logic.
Best Actor:Everyone is saying Bruce Dern for his role inNebraska, but I want no part of a movie about the dullest state in the country. Bruce Dern’s best role ever was in The ‘Burbs in 1989. That movie also had Tom Hanks. It’s one of the most underrated comedies ever. This year though I’m going with Leonardo...

Retirement Advice for President Obama
This week all the news programs aired a video of our President and Vice-President jogging around inside the White House in their shirts and ties. The idea of the video is to support Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative to fight obesity in the U.S. It’s ironic that to reduce obesity she wants us to sit down to watch a video.
This is just embarrassing. For cripes sake Obama! This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen a President do, and that includes Lewinsky. You’re the leader of the free world...
