2013 Winners and Losers: Kim, Kanye, Phil, Miley and The Biebs
I know not all of you are from the States but surely you’ll be familiar with at least some of these story lines:
Miley Cyrus:After Miley’s bawdy “twerking” demonstration with Robin Thicke at the VMA’s there was literally public outrage. Really everybody? We’re mad because she did a kind of weird, kind of sexy, kind of dance? I wasn’t alive in the 1950′s, but apparently everybody was so upset about some guy named Elvis moving his hips, the 50′s version of twerking, that the networks wouldn’t sh...

Throwback Thursdays! 2006 The Year in Review (aka My Left Thumb)
This was originally posted on The Phil Factor on Dec. 29, 2006
This is the week of every year that I hate to watch television, read magazines, or go online. There is not a single media outlet that can resist the year ending “Year That Was” piece in some format or other. Being no better, or worse than the media, I hereby present to you my Year in Review. Of course as with any year of our lives my year had it’s ups and downs, but there was one very strange constant throughout 2006 for me. My lef...

My Christmas In Jail
Reblogged from A Clown On Fire:
I've had 37 Christmases. That makes for a lot of memories. I remember being 8 years old and opening all my gifts before my parents woke up, and my mom cried. That sucked. I remember a couple of years ago being hugely pregnant, holding my belly and feeling so full of hope and wonder. I felt like Mary.Except of course, I had had actual sex.
This is a guest post from Clown on Fire by another blogger named Nicki Daniels. It's a great remi...

Book Review of “Wool” by Hugh Howey
See that cover in the right half of the picture? That’s why I read Wool. In the store the cover just grabbed my attention. It was different, like the story.
Dystopia: a society characterized by human misery as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding. (Dictionary.com)
It would be easy to dismiss Wool as another futuristic, sci-fi, dystopian society novel, of which there are far too many. Wool however is more than that. I also just realized that I’ve italicizedWoolfour times now. I may hav...

How to Piss Off a Canadian
Reblogged from A Collection of Musings:

Rumour has it that Canadians are always polite and apologetic. Some might say Canadians will apologise to you for being in the way if you run over their foot with your car. In reality, you can easily piss off a Canadian in any of the following ways:
1. Ask for directions to a ski slope in the summer
2. Insist that he or she said a-boot and not about…
A very funny list from a very funny blogger.

If You Love Honey Boo Boo, You’ll Love…The Phil Factor?
This is my new quarterly feature, Fun with Search Terms! You know how when you put in a search term you get pages of related websites? Some are close to what you wanted to find and others not so much. This post is my quarterly reminder to be careful what you put into a search engine because somewhere someone knows what you’re looking for.

Throwback Thrursdays! The Gift That Keeps on Giving
This was originally posted the first time just a year ago, so it’s not that much of a throwback. I think of it as more of a public service announcement for those that might be shopping for me.
Well? How did you do? Did you get the right gift for your loved one for Christmas or Hannukah? Or did you cause irreparable damage to the relationship? Most holiday gifting comes with the same angst of “Did I pick the right gift? Did my gift say too much? Or too little?” When I become President, or Sexie...

BOOK REVIEW OF "THE SNEAKER TREE"
Reblogged from The English Professor at Large:
The genre is eclectic...mystery, horror, ghost story, young adult, adult...take your pick. Better yet, find them all in this delightful read about a group of l2-year-old boys on a baseball team that go to bat for one another when they find themselves embroiled in a frightening dilemma. "The Guys," as they call themselves, are mystified by the sneaker tree in their woods.
My thanks to Patricia, aka The English Professor at...

An Offer for WordPress Bloggers: Something Free!
Hello WordPress friends. I’m looking for your help. I’ve always believed in the power of blogging and in the good that blog writers can do with their writing. I recently published a short novel. The challenge as an indie author isn’t so much in writing the book, it’s in getting other people to know about it. There are a million book review blogs out there, but they all have wait lists of months and months and no guarantees that if you submit a book that it will ever get reviewed.
If anyone wou...
