Music Monday! Prince: 1999

I remember when this song came out and I thought 1999 was so far away. 1999 has come and gone and sadly, so has Prince. The final autopsy report isn’t out, but rumors are that Prince died of an opiate overdose. His overdose may not have been heroin either. Reportedly he was prescribed pain medications for pain in his hips. Using pain medications as prescribed usually isn’t dangerous, but no one knows if they carry the gene for addiction. At one time or another we all get prescribed a short ac...

Throwback Thursday! Zombies and Carry on People Ate My Brain

I’m traveling for work this week so I thought I’d pull out one of my favorite posts from 2012 about flying.

carry on

(April, 29, 2012) I would have written sooner but I had to travel for work and when I was getting on the plane to return I was stuck in the aisle behind a Carry On Person. What is a Carry On Person you ask? And why does Phil keep capitalizing?

We all carry bags on when we’re flying, and I’m fine with that. I always have a carry on. So what is the difference between us and the real Car...

Top Ten Tuesday! Ten Things Airlines Should Change

I’m traveling for work this week and will be spending too much time inside airplanes. This post is actually a re-run because I’m too busy to put the time in to craft a new coherent Top Ten list. Also, the time change is screwing me up. I’m 6 hours behind my home time and for the people in the U.K., they’re 12 hours ahead of me. I’ll be surprised if anyone reads this. The first time through, this was very popular and elicited a lot of suggestions from comments about what the readers would like...

Music Monday! Fitz & The Tantrums

In late October of 2009 the singer K’naan was scheduled to open a leg of Maroon 5’s tour but had to cancel due to fatigue. According to band founder Mike Fitzpatrick, “Adam Levine of Maroon 5 was in New York to get a tattooand his favorite tattoo artist had downloaded the record after hearing us on the radio. He told Adam, ‘you gotta hear this band.’ A week and a half later we’re opening for Maroon 5 on their college tour.” That’s not a bad way to get discovered eh? Here’s their new, unbeliev...

Consensual Sex? There’s an App For That!

Leave it tothe mom of teenagers to take the fun out of sex.Two weeks agoan app, created by a mom of three, called Yes to Sex was newly availablefor IOS and Android. “Yes to Sex” sounds like a great app doesn’t it? I thought “Yes to Sex” was the slogan for Tinder. Not that I would know of course.

Those of you that lived in the United States in the 1980’s, as I did, will remember First Lady Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” campaign thaturged people to just say no to drugs. If some candidate had “Ye...

TBT: Justin Bieber To Be My Vice-President

(04/18/15) I’m not sure who yelledGO!but about a week ago everyone who plans to run for President of the United States declared their intentions. Slackers. Those who follow me here know that I’ve been running for President, or Sexiest Man Alive, whichever comes first, for the last ten years. Also, unlike the slacker candidates, I already know who my Vice-President will be. It is, of course, Justin Bieber. How did you not see that coming? Justin didn’t see it coming either, but I’m confident h...

Music Monday! Burn Me Down by Nothing Personal

Yes, this is my son’s band Nothing Personal and you can find their new album, Unforgettable, on iTunes and all the other digital music retailers. This is a poignant heartbreaking song about a break-up featuringguest accompanyingvocals by Kristin Geary.

As always, if any of you know someone in the recording industry feel free to drop me a line so my son can get started on his career as a rock star. Have a great Monday! ~Phil

It’s the End of the World…again

Don’t worry. I’ll save us all. According to some crazy ‘scientists’ and conspiracy theorists the world is going to end in about two to six weeks. It’s nice that they gave us a window isn’t it? Usually when crackpots are predicting our demise there’s a specific hard stop date. Now, because of the six week window we can procrastinate. For instance, right now I don’t own a single device with a working keyboard, so here I sit holding a tablet with one hand and typing away with on the virtual keyb...

TBT! When I’m Elected President or Sexiest Man Alive…

(4/4/15) When I’m elected President, or Sexiest Man Alive, whichever come first, I’m going to fix the calendar. What? You didn’t know it was broken? Or is it that you didn’t know that being Sexiest Man Alive came with such all-encompassing powers? Either way, you’ve got a lot to learn.

Yes, the calendar is wrong. It’s all wrong. So very wrong. Me? I’m right. Completely right. My plan to reform the current calendar is not unprecedented. Our current calendar was first reformed by a visionary b...
