Disney Dream leaves the Mersey Estuary today





The luxurious Disney Dream cruise ship has visited Liverpool as part of her British Isles voyage.

The ship is seen here leaving the Mersey Estuary this afternoon.

Birkdale Crafts and Preloved Items Fayres - the next two weekends

 


‘Southport Crafts, Arts and Preloved Items Fayre’ organisers are holding a fayre this Saturday at St Peter’s Church, St Peter’s Road, Birkdale, Southport PR8 4BY

The fayre is open from 10.30 am until 3.00 pm.

Refreshments and children's craft area.

We have lots of stalls booked selling: a great variety of old-fashioned sweets, resin crafts, crochet items, wax melts, indoor plants/hanging baskets, and jewellery. We have some of our regular stallholders with Seaglass art and bookmarks. Holistic...

Air Show Organisation - the Birkdale Fiasco!

 
The Southport Air Show has been a crackingly good event for many years. However, organisation behind the recent show left a lot to be desired. 




The scene at Birkdale was chaotic.



The abysmal security situation was reminiscent of an episode of the Keystone Cops. People wandered freely into the alleged exclusion zones often without challenge. 

Hard – pressed coast guards whizzing about on quadbikes tried and largely failed to direct people off the shore. Increasingly frustrated police officers on th...

Rainclouds threatened yet the day stayed generally dry. 

 


Mud glorious mud and quite deep in places...

Ainsdale Green - join in the fun this Sunday

 



Latest information for our 'Last of the Summer Picnics' event this Sunday.
Toilets are available from 1.30 pm inside the church hall. 
Free teas/coffees are available inside the hall too from 2.00 pm. 
On the Green itself we will have some great music from Paul Crilly our DJ, some songs from Sheila Jones, children's yoga taster sessions with Leanne and Tappy Toes dance taster sessions for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. 
We also weather permitting, have Tarleton Bouncy Castles joining us.

Fightback of the Ash Tree

 


Regarding Ash dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus). Initial conclusions assessed that 1-5% of trees may show realistic tolerance to Ash dieback, but none have yet been found to display extensive resistance, or have they? 

The ash population could indeed eventually recover over time and studies are ongoing to investigate this. Nature has a way of balancing itself out, given time and the right circumstances.

BT's Digital Voice programme - challenged by Silver Voices group


The independent organisation for senior citizens, Silver Voices, has strongly criticised the potential failings attached to BT’s contentious roll out of their Digital Voice programme.

BT proudly claim:

‘As your household becomes more connected, we're bringing all our technologies together onto one smart network to improve the quality of the service you get from us. Digital Voice is our next generation home phone service.’

 

Silver Voices hit back, stating:
