Book Review: Child of the Prophecy by Juliet Marillier
Title: Child of the Prophecy
Author:Juliet Marillier
Length: 528pages
Genre:Fantasy, Historical Fiction
My Rating:5/5
So…I’ll be the first to confess that I’ve had a love-hate relationship with this book throughout the entirety of the time I’ve been in love with theSevenwaters Series by Juliet Marillier (which is at least a decade). Because I’m rereading through the series so that I can end it with the newly releasedFlame of Sevenwaters, I really wanted to get throughChild of the Prophecy (Book #3)...

Wednesday Wanderment
I think sanctuaries havesuch stories to tell! This is a shot I took at a friend’s wedding this weekend. The church was SUPER old and gorgeous. I always start to wonder about the lives of the parishioners when I sit in the pews of an especially old church. I guess we writers can’t help but find inspiration everywhere, huh?
I’m very pleased to say that this Wednesday is progressing MUCH better than last Wednesday. The hubs and I are about to head out on vacation tomorrow morning with the lovely...

Planning My Copycat Practice!
I loooooooveWriter Unboxed. That is seriously one of the best websites EVER for writers. One post that came out early this year was “Be a Copycat“. I love, love, love this post. I think Keith is spot on in his idea for practicing the greats. Musicians practice pieces written by other musicians, no? Well, why can’t writerspractice writing passages from their favorite authors? Now, don’t misread us here. We are not talking about working another author’s words into your own manuscript. No, no, n...

Why I Took an Extended Writing Break (and Maybe You Should Too!)
Last week was rough. If you’ve been following my blog for any period of time, you’ll know that recently…my emotions have been a little raw. Last Thursday, I had to put one of my precious ratties to sleep. She had had a stroke and was in seriously bad shape. Honestly, the period leading up to the vet visit was much, much worse than how I felt after she was finally at peace. I was just so happy that she wasn’t in pain anymore.
Because of my distress last week, I was really not in the best frame...

What You Might Have Missed
Ahhhh…I just love the pink irises in our back yard. Until we moved into our house after we got married, I hadnever seen pink irises anywhere. I’m under the impression that they’re somewhat rare, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
It has been a very stressful week, but I think we came through italright. For those of you who are just catching up, I had to have one of my beloved rats put to sleep this week and it was an extremely emotional experience for me. Now that a few days have pas...

A Lesson in Book Cover Design by Kristine of The Merry Bird Designs
Today on the blog, I’m very pleased to have Kristine from The Merry Bird Designs! She’s here today to talk about book cover design. As every independent author knows, having an eye-pleasing book jacket is essential to success. Take it away, Kristine!

Writing a novel takes a lot of discipline, research, passion, and TIME! The same goes for the cover art that dons the store shelf or kindle view. I’d like to offer some advice on how to create a book cover yourself but then offer even more im...

A Hard Week
Today, my husband and I are taking my precious pet to the vet to be put to sleep. I haven’t been told that it’s certain that she’ll be put to sleep, but it is highly likely. I’ve never had to consciously make this decision before and it is definitely producing myriad emotions in my heart: Relief. Gratitude. Thankfulness. Sadness. Fear. Guilt. I’m thankful that she won’t be suffering any more, but I’m very sad that her journey here is almost over.
I haven’t written all week. I’m tempted to feel...

Let’s Get Real // Wednesday Wanderment
*Sigh*. The last two weeks have been the hardest I’ve faced in a long time. I normally don’t like to get all super “real” about “real life stuff” here on my writing/reading blog, but today…I’ve just got to get it all out. My pet rats are very ill and I have been very emotional in dealing with it all. My husband tells me that I’ve been healthily dealing with the stress, grief, etc., what have you, but I’m still feeling very “raw” and sad.
When you lose a pet as a child, it can be devastating, y...
