An Industrious Beginning to the Week

This weekend was busy, but awesome. ThePhilosopherand I were out of town Friday through Sunday and got back last night a little before midnight. Today, I woke up with a wicked sore throat, but managed to crank out a really productive morning. It didn’t involve writing, Maiedae, or marketing, though. It involvedother stuff. By “other stuff”, I mean the following:

>> Taught yoga

>> Got groceries

>> Put away groceries

>> Put together a shelf for my bedroom

>> Cleaned off my horridly dusty untidy nigh...

What You Might Have Missed

Image from Bealtaine Cottage

It has been both a challenging and amazing week. Challenging in the sense that I’ve been dealing with some tough emotional issues and amazing, because in the midst of that challenge I’ve been learning lots of great things about myself and about what my mind, body, and spirit need in order to thrive and to be the best writer I can be. The past week’s posts have concerned health and wellness as it pertains to writers. If you haven’t been able to read the posts from t...

Reader Forum: The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley

Okay, folks, I need your input. I have been wanting to readThe Mists of Avalonby Marion Zimmer Bradley for years and years, but I’ve never gotten around to it. Have you read it? If so, what were your thoughts on it? I’ll be honest, I’ve been reading some Goodreads reviews (both high ratings and low ratings), but am not sure about my thoughts. I’d love to hear some of your experiences in the comments section!

If I DO end up reading the book, I think it’d be fun to do a read along! Since it is S...

Staying Close to Nature When Writing Indoors

2012-04-14 13.02.43

Ahhh….nature. So calming. Sogood for us. The problem is, most writers spend much of their timeinside, away from nature. I find much of my story inspiration during my hikes in the woods or my walks outside on a nice or cloudy day. When I’m too long cooped up inside and away from the swaying trees and the lyrical sounds of birdsong, my inspirational flow is stunted. Still, allergies, heat, or rainy weather can all affect your ability to write outside. As well, if you’re a staunch word-processor...

Keeping Up With Reading Goals

IMG_2942

Life can get very, very busy very, very quickly. Because it is of the utmost importance that writers are avid readers (in my humble opinion), we should be regularly devouring books. How many you devour in any give year is up to you. I like to try and read about 36 in a year (as a baseline goal). That would average out to about 3 books a month that I’m responsible for. Some months, I only read 1 and others I read 5. It just depends on life. However, there is a trick for keeping up with your re...

Wednesday Wanderment

IMG_2627 In case you’ve missed my last few posts, I’ve been having a bit of a down-week. I’m really starting to perk up today and I’m excited! I started my day off right with a juiced breakfast and got a load of dishes done. Now I’m sitting down to get my workday under my belt. Feeling good and relaxed. :-)

Here’s some excellent Wednesday Wanderment posts for ya! The theme is probably “total health” for writers. :-) If you’re having a down-week, the best thing you can do for yourself is tolove yourself,feed...

Keeping Your Spirits Up When You’re Discouraged

fallhikesherwins12VI

I’ve debated about whether or not to write this post, but I like to think that we indies can be transparent with one another for the edification of all. Some days folks, I just get flat out discouraged about my work. I’m positive most of you feel the same from time to time. It is so easy to fall victim to this dread emotion–especially when you’ve been working so hard on your dreams! What are some symptoms that you’re discouraged in your work?

>> You constantly compare your writing style or wri...

Learning to Live in the Real World

We writers often spend much of our time in the “imagined world”. We walk along the streets of cities our brains created. We hike in forests filled with unicorns and pixies. We fly in spaceships to distant planets and make new lives. And yet…as important as it is that we live in the places we, ourselves, create…it is equally important to live in thereal world. It can be hard, though. Real life can sometimes be grim, hard, and frightening.I think that’s partly why books, movies, and TV shows ar...

Old Narnia Fan Art

Happy Saturday, everyone! On this day, the last “real” day of the Nine Nights of Narnia (hard to believe), I’d like to share some of my old fan art of the Pevensie children and Jadis. This is from MANY years ago, so don’t judge me too harshly, LOL. I love drawing and it has always been fun for me to sketch out my favorite characters from books and movies.

Do you ever draw characters that you love? If so, who are your favorite characters to sketch? When you watch movies or read books, do you fe...
