99 cent SALE and Excerpts from A Pirate's Wife

Excerpt #1
“How dare he?” She lifted the paper in the air, perplexed, angry, and bitter at this unknown Falcon. As her hand dropped, still trembling, she looked at her parents with blazing eyes. She had to read the letter twice to understand the contents. The more she read, the angrier she grew.
“How dare he?” she spat out.
“You have to leave tomorrow morning early. Otherwise you will not make the deadline,” Captain Jean gasped. “His second-in-command is his son, a ruthless and cunning man. It was he who wounded me before I got off the ship, to make sure I would deliver the message.”
“What is his name?” Rosa-Lee asked, still seething.
“Roberto. He is very sly and very dangerous. I would do as they say if I were in your shoes,” he said through clenched teeth.
Finally Cisco spoke, and the anger in his voice was unmistakable.
“Who does this man think he is, to command in this manner money, my daughter and my son’s life, all in one breath?”
“My father is used to getting what he wants, and this is a small price to pay for your son’s life, I would say.” A very tall, dark-haired man, the expression on his face determined and fierce, stood in the doorway, filling it with his large frame. They had not noticed him before now and swung toward the deep baritone voice. A scar ran from the corner of his left lip to his left eye. The deep ochre shade of those eyes made him look even more dangerous.
He wore black trousers with high boots. A white shirt showed beneath his long black jacket. In his large hand that looked like a claw to Rosa-Lee he nonchalantly held a black hat. He glared straight into her father’s own piercing eyes without any faltering of his gaze.
She clenched her hands in fists, eyes blazing at the black cloaked man, the smirk on his face clearly in defiance of any law.
“We leave tomorrow morning at six. Be there or bear the consequences.” His eyes shifted to her with amusement and with a mockingly courteous nod to her, he turned and left. They were all stunned in disbelief.
“How dare you?” She shouted at his back.
He turned, glancing back at her, appraising her as if she were the most despicable thing he had ever seen. The guffaw that burst from his throat rolled over her. She stamped her foot in frustration on the marble floor.
Though his voice was cold and distant, his eyes were fiery darts pinning her to attention to him. “Be warned, Môn Petite, that you do not wake the beast.” And he left her standing there. For a moment, fear gripped her heart and her knees buckled. She melted into the love seat.
Her dress billowed around her in an unlady-like fashion. She was crestfallen at the very idea that she would be in this cold man’s presence for the next four months.

Excerpt #2
Cisco and Qonchita stood next to Manuel, who watched the activities with interest. Rosa-Lee knew his heart was not with the sea. This was his life, here, working the land. She would miss him, her big bear of a brother.
She bravely smiled at her family and they held her for a moment in silence. They had said all they could. Now they all had to believe that this voyage would not end in disaster.
Rosa-Lee was just hugging her mother when they heard a stern, brisk voice behind them.
“Very touching, but it is time.”
Rosa-Lee saw the pirate looking at her from the ship, the same amusement from the previous evening in his eyes. He looked menacing, unwavering in the same dark clothes of the previous day. She met his gaze in the same manner; unwavering, defiant. His chuckle sent fury into her eyes.
Roberto saw the fury and it drew him. This will be an interesting time with her aboard the ship. The Falcon is definitely going to know her, but there is no harm in having some fun.
Ochre eyes roamed over the enticing body wrapped in green taffeta. The dark braided hair lay over a creamy shoulder. Her bodice clung to the small frame in the latest fashion. Her perky breasts looked ripe for the plucking. He grinned at the picture he knew he will enjoy.
She stepped away from her parents with anger still visible on her face. She gathered her dress in her hands and walked up the plank with a steady gait and a rigid back, small shoulders straight, showing no fear, to where the pirate waited. She looked at him, eyes locking his with defiance. His guffaw rumbled up his throat, mocking her. She pulled her chin up. Without a word, she turned to wave to her parents.
Rosa-Lee Almaida definitely has some backbone, Roberto smiled. Backbone I would like to break and bend to my will. Yes, I am definitely going to enjoy this voyage.
He turned his attention back to the ship and barked orders still aware of Rosa-Lee at the railing.

Excerpt #3
“I refuse to eat with that man. I will stay here. Please go!” Immediately she raised her voice in anger. Who does this man think she is? I do not want any contact with him in anyway. The nerve of this man.
Enrico nodded his head in understanding and walked out, closing the door behind him.
She unpacked her trunk into the cupboard provided for her dresses and left a few things in the trunk for later use, especially the pistol, well hidden for now. She realized she needed a place to put them and, looked around her room a second time.
Her room was comfortable but small; not what she enjoyed at home, but for now it suited her purposes. She found her way around easily and decided to put her knife near her bed between the folds of the curtains. It would be close enough to get to easily.
In the one corner near the window was the tub for her bath, a luxury on a ship. Although the ship belonged to her father she had never been on it, only the larger merchant one, but her father undoubtedly thought of everything when he purchased it a few years back. Not suitable for a woman, but for this voyage it would do fine.
She was busy brushing her long hair when she heard a knock. Thinking that it will be Enrico, she answered, “Please come in.”
“Señorita Almaida.” The familiar stern voice greeted her. When she turned around, Roberto stood behind her. He was closer to her now than at any time since they had met, hovering over her, the menacing look more plain to see on his face. The scar running from his left eye to the corner of his mouth made him look fierce.
“I have been informed that you will not join me for the meals, Señorita. Can I ask why not?” His voice cold, while his eyes took in the interior of the cabin.
“I will not eat with you, a pirate.” Defiance was in her own cold voice. “I don’t want to discuss this any further. Please leave my room.” She turned away from him, peering out the porthole to the open sea, and continued brushing her hair.
She did not see the amused look that was followed by a stern one as he spoke “It is not a matter of what you want, Señorita. You will sit at my table and that is final!”
“Make me,” she said through clenched teeth.
“All right, if this is how you want to play it, I am fine with that. Good day.” He nodded but she did not bother to turn around to notice.
When he left, she let out her breath. She had not even realized that she was holding it. This man will learn that I am not very willing or easy to please. I will give him hell! She braided her long hair with trembling fingers.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful5.0 out of 5 stars Step back in time for pirates and passion September 19, 2012By A.D. SpencerFormat:Kindle EditionThis is a great read! This story begins in the 1600's and spans a twenty year period. The main characters "chronicle" their hardships aboard a sailing vessel, and the devastation they suffered after a storm claimed the ship. Rosa-Lee, and her parents are well-rounded and believable, as is the mysterious Roberto. Rosa-Lee finds herself in the middle of an elaborate scheme that she doesn't fully understand, and the romance that unfolds takes her by surprise.
I noticed a few small grammar issues, but it doesn't take away from the fact that this is a great story. Anyone who enjoys historical romance will love this. I highly recommend this book, for ages 17 and up (erotic content).

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised September 22, 2012By Melina MasonFormat:Kindle EditionI was pleasantly surprised when I read this book. Lynelle asked me to read it and review it. It had a lot of action and was well written. It was also a very fast read. Rosa Lee was a very strong character, and when she meets Roberto she doesn't know really what to think of him. But in the end she finds out that you really can't judge a book by it's cover. I suggest you read this, you'll like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars life aboard a ship, December 24, 2012By Ella Hansing - See all my reviewsThis review is from: A Pirate's Wife (Kindle Edition)Clark has done a wonderful job in her descriptions of life aboard a ship, dealing with stormy weather and foul sailors - as well as creating a sumptuous young love story between two people with very different backgrounds. The ending to the story is exactly what the reader wants to see happen, but Clark does an excellent job keeping the reader in concern and anticipation.

Vengeance Hammer, Vengeance Warriors Book 3: Excerpt:
“Lady Xára, I have not the time for this. The people of the keep are restless and I must attend to the castle defenses.” Ignoring the laced irritation in Dráddør’s tone, she quickly assembled everything and using her fingers wrote in the sand in the tray, Néill assembles an army in Leòdhas. She motioned for him to come forward and pointed to the sand tray Jennie had had made so the two of them could ‘speak’ to each other. His golden brows pulled together, but he did as she asked, and read her words. Quick as a furious winter melt, he spun around, massive hands on his hips, his glance sweeping from the tray to her, back and forth, and back and forth. His frown deepened. He scrubbed at the light dusting of hair on his chin.“Do you understand me when I speak?”Oh, she yearned to pinch him for even asking such a doltish question. Were all men witless? That she could write words but not comprehend them? She rolled her eyes, pursed her mouth, and nodded.“Lady, you cannot expect me to know your thoughts or abilities. I have to secure the castle before nightfall. Who is Néill?” His straight nose could’ve breathed fire, he appeared so vexed. After smoothing the sand, she inscribed, Arnfinn’s step-brother. He claims Lathairn Castle. He travels to Leòdhas to bring back Godfraid and his warriors. He gave her a look as if she was daft. “Godfraid mac Arailt, the Earl of Leòdhas is vassal to King Harald of Norway. King Harald has commanded our union. ’Tis treason if Godfraid aids your Néill.”Not her Néill, never her Néill. Resisting the temptation to stamp her feet, she nigh punched out her words in the sand. Néill and Godfraid are on their way.“How know you this?”She wanted to howl in frustration. But she and Jennie had agreed how to handle this query. She wrote, Ask Liam the Lucky. At his ferocious scowl, she added, Lathairn’s Man-at-Arms.He studied her for a long, uncomfortable moment. Xára knew if he gainsaid her now, all was lost. She did not waver under his persistent scrutiny even though perspiration broke out over her back and chest. Finally, when she’d decided he would cast her to the wolves, he blew out a long breath. “When did Néill leave for Leòdhas?” Cert now he understood the gravity of the situation she raised two fingers and wrote in the sand, 2 eves. His mouth flattened. “They could arrive within the sennight.”Turning away from her, he clasped his hands behind his back, and paced the length of the chamber. While he was striding up and down, she inscribed more in the sand.Abruptly, he halted right in front of her. She pointed to the tray.He read aloud, “Néill intends to wed you and claim Lathairn. Godfraid supports him. I surmised as much. So be it.” She craned her neck to meet his gaze and waited, heart thundering against ribs so hard her chest ached.“First, I will verify all you have said—” He sighed. “What you have written. Then I will send two of my men to you. Have your mother moved to her rightful chamber. I will have the healer summoned. The vow saying will take place before sunset. Am I correct that you understand what must be done?”

Señorita Rosa-Lee Almaida abducted from her home, 1641
My sources informed me that Señorita Rosa-Lee Almaida was abducted from her parents home yesterday morning. Her beloved parents are grief–stricken. We all know the Almaida family well for their work among the village people, that this tragedy must befall them is indeed catastrophic news. Senor Almaida is as always the pillar to his wife Qonchita and their oldest son. I have tried to talk with him late yesterday afternoon but as I understand he was not available for any comments. His son refused my request to see the older couple but sadness and anger could be felt through out the villa. Somber looking staff was subdued as they passed me, doing what were expected from them. The sweet young girl went willingly with her capturer to safe her brother Pedro, who is in the clutches of Falcon also known as the Pirate King. Despicable people! He demands a ransom for their lives insisting that she would be brought to him on the Island Of Saint Marie. No doubt as a slave. Just the mere thought of his attentions with her makes my heart ache with pain at the family’s horrific ordeal. The name Roberto is spoken with much reference among the sailors as her capturer and it was difficult to find more information about this man before the print of this article. Señorita Rosa- Lee is well known in the village for her hard work and dedication with the children. Starting the new school less than six months ago with much opposition amongst the farmers but her patience and strong will nature turned their minds and they have agreed to send them early in the mornings for classes. A huge benefit for our community and a topic that is on every one’s lips as of late. I was informed that one of the older girls at school will continue her work under the watchful eye of Senora Qonchita Almaida. A childhood friend told me this morning that Rosa-Lee’s biggest fear was to go back on the open seas after the ordeal she and her mother had twenty years ago. This would not be an enjoyable journey for her and who knows what the pirate will do to her. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, Pedro and the young Senorita during this stressful time.

BLURB
Rosa Lee Almaida lived a sheltered and carefree life growing up until she and her mother experienced a horrific ordeal on the seas and in the middle of Africa when she was four years old. The only joy came after she met her adoptive father, a man honored by all sailors on sea and land for his bravery and unconditional love. He became her hero, the role model of her own husband to be. Now twenty years later, she is forced to return to the seas that took the life of her birth father and so many others.
Abducted from her parent’s castle in Portugal, Rosa Lee Almaida becomes part of a ransom to The Falcon, a brutal Pirate King on the Island of Madagascar, in exchange for her younger brother Pedro’s life.
She comes face to face with The Falcon’s son, Roberto de Ville, a man as fierce as his illustrious father but who has his own hidden agenda. During the voyage, she learns to admire Roberto for his leadership and skill but can she overlook his pirate exterior to see the man for who he is?
Through the inscriptions her parents left in their diaries, she must make a decision to save her life. In an unexpected turn of events, she learns she must trust Roberto unconditionally in the hopes her life will be spared. She gives herself over to the love and intimacy of the man she now craves.Taking Rosa Lee from Portugal, Roberto brings her to the Falcon on the Isle of St Mary. Enchanted by the stories told to him by her brother, he knows that Rosa Lee is destined to be his. Listening to her and seeing her bravery, he knows this is the woman he has waited for all his life. He is willing to give up the dangerous life of a pirate but first he has to set an intricate plan into motion that will change his life forever. He, along with Pierre his second in command, rush against time to bring the plan to fruition.
In the end, Rosa Lee discovers a valuable lesson that startles her: NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER.

Interview with Dorine White about her New Release The Emerald Ring

1. Where did the idea come from for the book? I have always had a love of Ancient cultures, plus my favourite reads are fantasy books. I thought putting the two together would be a great idea.2. What genre does your book fall under? The Emerald Ring is a middle grade fantasy books. It is perfect for ages 8 and up.3. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? I actually don’t have a clue. The main character is part Hispanic and 12 years old. I’d have to search recent movies for children actors.4. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? A magical emerald ring that once belong to Cleopatra, becomes stuck on 12 year old Sara Bogus’ finger, too bad an evil Roman cult will stop at nothing to get it.5. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? LOL. Neither. I do not have an agent, but the book is being published by a small press, Cedar Fort Inc. They publish over 140 books a year, so I’m pretty excited with their experience.

Lost and Found in Russia Review and Excerpt

Blurb:
The book is a contemporary women’s fiction, encompassing the exploration of mother-daughter relationship and a self-discovery tale.
After the shocking revelation that her daughter was switched at birth 34 years ago, Canadian scholar Amanda embarks on a trip to Russia and Israel to find her biological daughter. Intertwined with the account of Amanda’s journey is the story of Sonya, a 34-year-old Russian immigrant and a former dancer, currently living in Canada. While Amanda wades through the mires of foreign bureaucracy, Sonya struggles with her daughter’s teenage rebellion. While Amanda rediscovers her femininity, Sonya dreams of dancing. Both mothers are searching: for their daughters and for themselves.

Excerpt:
“I’ve discovered that you’re not really my daughter. I have another daughter somewhere in Russia.” Amanda held her breath. What would Gloria’s response be to this revelation? Every night, Amanda thought
about ways to put it into words, to explain it to her daughter, but she couldn’t find any better approach than the blunt truth.
“What is it?” A mischievous dimple appeared in Gloria’s right cheek, untouched by the bruises. “A twist from a new book by some obscure Russian writer?”
“No,” Amanda whispered. Of all the possible scenarios she had envisioned during her nightly speculations, she hadn’t thought Gloria would simply discard the news. “Your blood type is ‘O’ negative. The doctor said. Both Donald and I had ‘O’ positive blood. They probably switched you at birth in that Russian hospital.”
Slowly, Gloria’s hands stilled, and she lifted her eyes to look at Amanda. She opened her mouth, attempted a smile, closed it, opened it again, and then blinked.
“This is a joke?”
Amanda shook her head.
“This is the truth?”
Amanda nodded. Unable to watch emotions flickering across Gloria’s face, she surged up and kneeled in front of her daughter’s chair. “I love you Gloria,” she said hoarsely, caressing her daughter’s leg under the worn denim. “You’ll always be my daughter. But there is another one somewhere in Russia. She might be starving, unemployed.”
Amanda’s throat closed. No matter how often such thoughts visited her lately, she had had to fight for air every time.
“She might need my help. Our help. I have to go there and find her. I have to bring your sister home.” She smiled weakly. “Maybe she can be your new designer. Maybe she has inherited Donald’s creativity. Say
something, please.” Amanda’s gray eyes bored into her daughter’s green ones. Would she understand? Forgive?
“So I have another mother somewhere in Russia?” Gloria said, her lips stretching in a mirthless grin.
“Another mother?” Appalled, Amanda pulled away.

Thanks. I can't wait for May to arrive.
It was a great pleasure featuring you on my blog Olga. I wish you all the best with the book sales.
I met Olga through SheWrites, a group for women, interacting and supporting each other in their roles as authors. Just like me, there are many older women, we call ourselves late bloomers **smile** with questions too numerous to say but always with a helping hand or advice which I for one appreciates extremely.
So this is a big honor to been asked and read Olga's new book. I hope we will see much more from her pen in the coming future.

Through the eyes of two mothers we learned more about each of their stories, their fears, sorrows, pain and failures as well as their victories and strong determination to fight and hold on for what are theirs.
Amanda, a widow for the last five years takes us on an interesting journey from Russia to Israel to find her missing daughter. In the process she discovers more about herself and allow herself the freedom of exploring about life, her love life and men. In the beginning she received some dreadful news coming to grips with the revelation and set out to find a baby left behind thirty-four years ago.
Sonya took us on another journey, this one pulling at the hearts strings as she tried to win the affection of her daughter and make a living for them between two jobs. Her drunken husband unreliable but yet influencing her life greatly. Her struggles with motherhood were at times frustrating, not knowing for sure if she need to be the mother or the peace keeper. Torn between her jobs and her teenage daughter who played her like a fiddle. She makes the wrong decisions and in the process loose her authority as a mother with dreadful consequences Her daughter played on this until finally she was confronted with the stupidity of her own decisions restoring the relationship between them.
The colorful descriptions of the landscape of Russia, their bureaucratic system and the poverty that clutched this once thriving country in an iron grip urge you on to leave the pages. Israel, the heat and the dangers of suicide bombers draws you into the story making it real and entertaining. Will written with a great plot you are drawn into these characters struggles, the people that shared their lives, making it more colorful making it believable and heart warming.
Well done Olga Godim.

Going After the Heart Book Barrage, Give away and Guest Post #cblspromos

One of the most frequent questions writers get is: where do you get the inspiration for your stories? In general, the simple answer is, all over the place. The not-so-simple answer is, it’s an evolving process that is almost impossible to describe or duplicate. Take for instance, my story Going After the Heart, which was inspired by a bad dream I had a couple of years ago about myself and my husband. What started out as jotting down some therapeutic notes to get over the dream, morphed into a variety of forms that ended with the version of my book that’s available now. But it was a long multifaceted process that I couldn’t begin to write down or explain step by step. During the process, it was fascinating to see how things changed. Some were little tweaks such as a character’s hair color, while others where large changes that spanned the entire arc of the story. Considering my own experience, I’ve often wondered if other authors have similar experiences. I know some authors are much more methodical then me when it comes to plotting out their story and figures out all the who and what quickly with little deviation from it during the actual writing process. But still, there are a large number of books I’d love to know what initially inspired the story. One that comes to mind is a book I just finished reading a few days ago, Bet Me, by Jennifer Cruise. (Which I highly recommend by the way if you haven’t read it already.) What about you, any books you’d like to know how they were inspired?

About the AuthorIn between her to-be-read pile and trying to bring the characters in her head alive, Kristen spends as much New York sports teams.

As with just about every other writer on the planet, Kristen grew up an avid reader. She started with young adult before she technically hit the age range and moved on to sci-fi classics by Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury. At fifteen, her best friend gave her a book she just had to read! The book was Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts. Always a sucker for a happy ending, she was a goner and fell in love with the romance genre. Having started writing novel length stories at the age of eleven, Kristen’s stories all took a romantic turn from that point on.

Excerpt #2“Here’s the keys to the cabin. The round one is to the front and back doors and the square one is for the shed.” Ray’s voice sounded clear and even behind him.
Turning, Gavin watched his father hand Lizzy a small set of keys.
“I had Clare clean it up for you. Like I said on the phone, it’s not the newest place in the world, but it’s still in pretty good shape considering its age."
Lizzy gave his father a small smile as she took the keys from him. “I’m sure it’s great.”
Her gaze moved to him and resentment swelled watching her smile fade. Although, what did he expect, she hadn’t smiled at him for months prior to him leaving. Why would she start now?
But the indiscernible look settling on Lizzy’s features startled him. After ten years of marriage and five years together before getting married, Gavin would have bet big money he knew every single one of his wife’s expressions. But this one, he realized dumbfounded, he didn’t recognize.
Her gaze dropped down to Sky. “Come on, Sky, we’ve got to go up to the cabin to settle in.”
Beside him, Gavin felt Sky’s shoulders tense.
“No!” She shouted the word venomously. “I don’t want to go with you,” she spat before turning pleading blue eyes up at him. “Dad, can’t I stay here with you and Papa? I don’t want to go with her.”
Apparently he missed the memo about today being Surprise Day, Gavin realized, as he could only stare at his daughter for a moment, never having seen this side of her before.
“I tell you what, little missy, no little girl is welcome in my house that sasses her mama the way you just did. No matter what injustice you think she’s handed you, a child never speaks to their parent that way.” Ray delivered his little speech with an even look and matching tone.
Sky’s cheeks turned bright red. Gavin frowned down at her. “Your grandfather’s right, you know better than to talk to your mom that way.”
Looking up to his wife, he arched a brow. Apparently the statute of limitations for surprises for the day hadn’t been reached yet, he thought silently in disbelief when Lizzy didn’t scold, or even comment on, Sky’s behavior.
Rather than say anything, Lizzy looked away and her back stiffened so much he thought her spine would snap.
What the hell is going on? His bewilderment bothered him.
Seeing Lizzy wouldn’t say anything, Gavin looked back down at Sky. “Honey, since I didn’t know you were coming, I don’t have anywhere set up for you to sleep. I’m sleeping on a cot in one of the extra rooms. I’ll try to look at setting something up tomorrow so you can stay a few nights with me. How does that sound?”
A stubborn look Gavin recognized all too easily surfaced on Sky’s face, but she remained silent, temporarily mollified and nodded. Turning away from him, Sky made her way back to the car and climbed in without so much as a single glance in her mother’s direction.
Gavin returned his gaze back to Lizzy, but she completely ignored him as she turned to climb back in the car.
That, at least, he’d grown used to.

EXCERPT
Heather was awakened by the sound of her alarm. Today is the first day of the rest of my life, she thought as she stretched and yawned. She jumped up out of her bed, hit the silence button on the alarm, and went to her closet to pick out her clothes for the day. After looking through all her clothes, she sighed deeply.
What can I wear to this illiterate, rustic school. If I dress up, then people will think I’m a snob and snub me. If I dress down, then I will blend into the crowd, and I will not be able to accomplish anything. I guess I have my answer. I need to be seen in order to make a difference, whether good or bad.
Heather picked out her black leather skirt, a white dress shirt, a black fringed soft leather jacket and her black leather boots. At least I’m wearing boots, that way I’ll blend in somewhat, she thought. She styled her hair the way she always did and put on her makeup with a little more emphasis than usual.
Heather heard a knock on the door, “Yes, what do you want?” she asked. “I’m going to be outside. My cotton pickin’ cow, Molly, got out of the fence, and I have to round her up. Be back after a while,” Mick said through the door. “All right, but I’m leaving in a few minutes, so I’ll see you after school,” Heather replied.
“Okey dokey, see ya later,” Mick responded.
“Okey dokey! I can’t believe I’m living with a redneck, dirt farmer,” she said as she rolled her eyes. Heather glanced at the alarm, “Crap, I’m going to be late”, she said as she grabbed her purse and ran out the door. The door slammed behind her as she ran to the car. She looked around for Mick, but didn’t see him anywhere. I guess he’ll realize I’m gone when he doesn’t hear from me, she thought.
As Heather drove down the narrow gravel road she looked for the right road to take to get her to the school. She saw Mick with a belt whipping his cow. “Now I’m seen everything,” she said as she laughed.
As Heather approached the school, a green ford truck ran right in front of her. She paused for a second after giving him the finger. I can’t believe these idiots, she thought. She pulled into the parking space closer to the front of the school, and she looked over to the green pickup truck.
A scruffy looking guy with long hair climbed out of the truck. “You need to watch where your going. This aint New York, this is my town,” he said very hatefully with a smirk on his face. “No, you need to watch where you are going, you hick. You’re the one who ran in front of me,” Heather replied as she pointed her finger at him. Heather was a little tougher than she looked. She wasn’t going to let some corn fed hillbilly talk to her like that.
“How do you know I’m from New York anyway?” she asked.
“That is for me to know and you to find out,” he replied as he turned away from her.
Heather wasn’t used to people treating her this way, especially boys. She was the most popular girl in the whole school at Manhattan High School. Now she was in a place that was oblivious to the fact that she wore an eighteen hundred dollar Armani jacket and Louboutin boots. How can anyone not care about fashion, she thought. Fashion is what made her so popular. Everyone in Manhattanwanted what she had. She was the envy of all the girls at her school. Now she felt like she was an outsider looking in through a dark stained glass and no one could see her.

Laying Low in Paradise My 4 Star review and Give away
Laying Low in Paradise

By: Kristy K. James
Book Description
Laura Keane and her son have been spending summers at their chalet on Bois Blanc Island since her husband was killed in the war. She never let anyone else in after the chaplain delivered the sad news four years ago, so it’s just the two of them, and she wouldn’t change that for the world.
Cameron Rafferty and his friends were keeping secrets. Dangerous secrets, and they’d hoped the little island paradise would be a safe place to hide out. The plan to keep a low profile quickly unravels when an accident changes everything. Cameron soon finds himself becoming more involved with the Keane family than he’d intended -and wishing for things he shouldn’t.

A sweet Cinderella story with a jealous family member that caused havoc among the royal family. Leaving a mother to believe she has lost every one dear to her heart. Fist killing a beloved wife and maiming the thirteen year old son to get to the throne. The building plot line keeping you in suspense in who this wicked person could be and will it work out at the end.
Widow Laura and her son Sam visited the island Bois Blanc for their annual summer holiday meeting widower Cameron and his son Brendan by accident. Literally. When she sprained her ankle Cameron came to the rescue for both mother and son and over the course of six weeks they became good friends.
Cameron had several friends close by fulfilling every desire and need they could have. Always feeling safe with the men around they set out to enjoy the holiday and the warm weather as much as possible.
The underlining tension build up as you learn more and more that Cameron and his friends are not who they say they are, hiding away from some demented person who want both him and his son dead. Security measures was taken to keep them safe and when Sam got badly hurt this team stepped up with another notch.
Laura's interaction with both boys were especially well written and I loved the way that she took time to connect and really love Brendan, accepting him as her own.
Sam, a beautiful young boy with a character that says he would make it far, understanding more than a thirteen year old should.
When feelings started to grow between the two of them things becomes serious. Cameron knew that Laura would be his wife no matter what any one said and revealed to her their secret. A secret that shocked her, chasing him away to get to terms with all the secrets but a specially getting used to her new title if she decide to say yes to his proposal.
There were a few comical situations that lifted the seriousness of the story line making it more believable, the characters were interesting and well developed and the plot line giving a edge of suspense that keeps you wondering.
A very good romance story that you could read in a day leaving you relaxed and entertained till the last page. In my opinion the money spend to buy the book worth it.

She has been writing for more years than she’ll ever admit to, and loves every aspect of it. From creating characters who are so real that they sometimes take over the writing when they don’t like where she’s taking a story, to adding as many twists and mysteries to her plots as she can get away with.
She is the author of Reluctant Guardian, A Fine Mess, and The Stranger in my Head.
Kristy currently lives in Michigan with her family, too many pets and the occasional spider. She spends her time living in her make-believe worlds, cooking and baking up a storm, and doing her best to learn to say ‘no’ when stray animals wander into her large country yard.

Excerpt As she lay back on her towel, a shadow fell across her. She opened one eye to see Stephen standing over her, grinning. “You’re blocking my sun,” she said and shut her eye.
“Mind if I join you?”
“Yes, I do mind.”
“Thanks.”
Turning toward him, she again opened one eye and frowned as she discovered he had removed his shirt and spread his towel beside her.
“There’s a lot of beach here you know, you could pick another spot.”
“Yeah, but I like this one.”
“You’re just trying to make me mad.”
“Now why would I do that?”
“Because you act like a twelve year old and teasing girls is what twelve year olds do.”
“Yeah, but my toys are much bigger and go a lot faster," he smirked.
She rolled her eyes and went back to sunning herself in silence. Stephen didn’t speak for a long time either, which she thought was a blessing and prob-ably too good to last very long. She was right.
“Have dinner with me.”
“Why?”
“Why not?”
“Because it’s fraternizing and your father doesn’t allow it.”
“Not true. We’re just two colleagues having dinner together. The fraternizing rule only applies between management and underlings. He’s afraid an employee would feel their position would be threatened if they refused a date with management.”
“Or perhaps he just didn’t want you dating the entire staff.”
He laughed. “That’s a possibility.”
“You’re shameless.”
“So I’ve been told.”
“I’m not having dinner with you.”
“I’ll pick you up at seven.”
“Look, Stephen, you don’t have to do this." She sat up and looked at him squarely.
“Do what?" He asked, almost managing to look innocent.
“All of this…” she waved one arm, “this flirting you seem to be doing with me. I’m not exactly your type.”
“What do you mean my type? That’s pretty judgmental and shallow of you.” He grinned at her again.
“And if anyone would know about shallow, it would be you, now wouldn’t it?” She said rather tersely. “Just stop it.”
“Allison…” he watched as she picked up her things and began making her

1. Where did the idea come from for the book?
I think it just came from being blasted by stick figures on TV and as the in books as being what women should look like. The truth is, the average weight of American women is 150 pounds, and I wanted a story with a real woman. Allison is a tad over 150 pounds, she’s a size 16, and while we may not think that is huge, that is a size that causes a lot of women to feel insecure, to be depressed, and to really not be happy with their body image.
2. What genre does your book fall under?
Definitely sweet romance, but with a little adventure and fun thrown in.
3. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

My suggestion Marie would be Matthew McConaughey

4. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Her: size 16. Him: hunk. Together: Not a chance!
5. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
This book is published with Dancing With Bear Publishing, which is my own publishing company that came about as a way to honor my late husband, Bear. It had been with another publisher, but it’s a very long story. I had about 21 or 22 books out with 9 different publishers, and then, some serious changes occurred and I asked for my contracts to be cancelled, and all but one publisher obliged.

6. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
First drafts never take very long once I get going. I can usually knock out a first draft in a week or two. It’s the polish that takes a long, long time!
7. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I don’t think my books can be compared to any others. I was once asked about genres, and my answer was, “Genres? We don’t need no stinkin’ genres!” I don’t like to be held to a genre, not even within the same book!
8. Who or What inspired you to write this book?
I pretty much covered that in my first answer. I just think there is too much pressure put on women today to look a certain way, to act a certain way, and it’s like cookie-cutter people. None of them are realistic and causes a lot of depression in women who can’t achieve that look, and many succumb to bulimia and anorexia.
9. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
This book could be the life of anyone. Most romances are unreal, which is fine, I love those time traveling romances, but we all know we won’t fall into a fairy hole and wind up in 17thcentury Scotland to be rescued by a braw Scots lad! I wish I could, but I think people want to read something normal and realistic once in a while too.
