Description“One can never be, and should never be, smug about life,” says Aurora Goldberg. An aspiring New York actress who has never realized her dreams, Aurora keeps herself afloat by doing odd temp jobs where her rich fantasy life helps her get through the day. Aurora sees the world through the lens of characters in literature and film and these fictionalizations are woven into her interpretation of reality.
On one of her temp assignments she meets Jake Stein, a man who could “charm the skin off a snake” and she decides to follow her destiny as his wife in Austin, Texas. But Jake's sudden death after two short years disintegrates her world and Aurora must reevaluate her life and let go of a love that has become an obsession.
With the help of friends, family, and the ghost of Viola Parker (her home's original owner), Aurora accepts her fate and the secrets revealed about Jake's true character. She realizes that in this life she will finally break the cycle of pain caused by her love for this man, Jake Stein, through the centuries.
ReviewTahlia Newland Awesome Indies“SUNSPOTS is a moving, beautifully-written mystery about the devastating consequences of obsessive love.
Bell’s elegant prose not only describes the events and scenery of this self destructive love story in riveting detail, but also skilfully evokes the atmosphere both internal and external. The structure of the story is very clever. At the beginning of the book, our empathy is aroused for grieving widow Aurora Goldberg. It appears that she had the perfect marriage to charming Jake, but as the story progresses, we and Aurora discover Jake’s secrets, so shocking to her that she is forced to re-evaluate their love. Through eyes opened by the truth—and helped along by the visions provided by a ghost—she sees that all was not as rosy as she had believed. Not only that, but the legacy he left her could be life-threatening.
Popular fiction tends to romanticise love where one looses themselves in the other, or feels completed by the other, or feels they cannot live or be happy without the other; Sunspots takes this kind of notion to its extreme to show how disempowering an obsession with the object of our love actually is. Obsession not only blinds you, it makes you weak, needy and boring. Your partner is likely to turn elsewhere to get away from your clinging, especially if you end up harping on at him that he never gives you any attention anymore. It’s dangerous to let your whole life revolve around one person, for when they leave you—by death as it is in this case—you are devastated. As the book progresses we come to see how much Aurorahas brought her crippling grief upon herself. She literally looses herself in this obsession.
Bell brings a metaphysical element to the story with the addition of Viola Parker, the ghost of the sister of Aurora’s last incarnation. With her help, Aurora sees that this pattern of obsessive love and betrayal by Jake—in his previous incantations—has been repeated in past lifetimes that ended with Aurora’s suicide. Viola urges her to take a different path in this life and cut the cycle of self-destruction.
Bell deals with interesting themes here, that we tend to repeat patterns until we make a conscious effort to change them,  that the past can be changed by actions in the present, and that when someone ‘saves’ us with love, in a healthy, balanced relationship we also to some extent ‘save’ them.
Highly recommended to anyone who likes psychological depth in their romance. I give it 5 stars and a place on the Awesome Indies list.”

About the Author
Walking with Elephants was my first novel, although I am not new to writing. I was a theater critic and celebrity interviewer for a weekly tabloid in Jacksonville, Fl and I earned a Master’s in Mass Communication from Oklahoma State University. For 15 years I worked in Corporate America as a technical editor/editor/writer. I experienced first hand the politics and intrigue that goes with that territory and the balancing act that comes with being a working mother. I salute all those mothers who are the glue that holds their families together while pursuing the nine to five brass ring. And that is what inspired me to write that novel.
With my second novel, Sunspots, I continue to be in awe of the magical and wondrous phenomenon called life. As an observer and obvious participant in feminine values and approach to our human challenges, I bring this perspective to my work. Fascinated by the mysteries of the unseen forces that perhaps play a role in guiding our choices, I search for answers in the mundane as well as in the cosmic forces that surround us.

Excerpt #1:My passion for acting surfaced as a young child when my so-called natural talent flung itself into the world full-blown and raw. Not wanting to attend pre-school one morning, I laid my arm over my head and “pretended” that my head hurt as I had seen my mother do many times before. That deceit uncovered a truth made known by philosophers of the ages, but of which I was certainly unaware. Pretending to feel and to really feel do not appear differently to the external world—if you do it right. Aside from being great fun, the stage was an obvious platform to hone that skill.

As Celeste Abbott, my alter ego, I spent most of my time as either a receptionist or data-entry clerk. It was not by choice, because I dreamed of being sought after by the best directors and to work continuously like Julia Roberts or Nicole Kidman or have a great stage career like Patti Lupone.
I had several fits and starts on the roller-coaster ride of acting that kept me hooked and on the payroll of two temp agencies where I had accumulated so many hours that I was eligible for health benefits—a situation that pleased my mother but underlined my failure to get into Actors’ Equity, or make enough money that AFTRA or SAG allowed me into their health plans. My first paying gig was a commercial with five other girls that shot all day on location at the Jersey Shore.
“Okay, ladies,” said the director. “Try and pretend it’s not 40 degrees. Look like it’s summer. I know you’re quite cold in those shorts and tee shirts, so let’s get this done quickly. Chase each other. Laugh. Throw the ball. Have fun. Okay, good. You over there, go sit in the parked car.”
“Me?”
“Yes, but can you do anything about those blue lips?”
There it was. I was chosen to sit behind the wheel of a convertible and gaze sexily into the camera for a tight close-up—the money shot. I could taste the possibilities of fat residual checks or even better—being discovered by some producer who thought my look “perfect for the lead” in some mega-funded movie, but instead I caught a chill and high fever that kept me out of temp work for a week. When the commercial aired, I realized that the only close-up not on the cutting room floor was my foot sporting the running shoe I had been wearing.
My optimism, however, could not be thwarted because my real passion was Broadway and it was the dream that kept my juices flowing. My closest encounter with a stage career had been a part I landed in an off-off Broadway play downtown. Off-off Broadway is where any basement or falling down hotel can be a theater and anything can be a play. But more importantly, off-off Broadway meant there was no real money, so budgets were tight.
This gig was in the Meatpacking District in a storefront of what looked like a condemned building. The windows of the store were blacked out so that the streetlights wouldn’t interfere with the stage lighting. The audience sat in folding chairs and the house could hold about 60 souls who weren’t turned off by the lingering odor of the daytime businesses. The stage was a wooden platform that was long and narrow and made moving about a bit risky. I was chosen to play the “unnamed woman,” one of three characters. The other two characters were her “unnamed lover” and “death.” More performance art than a play, it had one act with one scene. As the unnamed woman, I wore a mask and gold body paint (that covered my exposed skin and bright-pink bikini) and sang two songs that had no set melody.
“Hey ho, hey ho. The setting sun sends swords of gold. Hey ho, hey ho. The light. The light. Please light my love.” Or some such nonsense was my opening number. My challenge was to improvise the music every night to a drum that was my sole accompaniment. One night, I believe I crossed into copyright infringement when this melody came very close to sounding like the song for the seven dwarfs in Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and the other song sounded like, The Sound of Music. I was paid a small amount of money that included cleaning up the stage and backstage afterwards. Unfortunately, the show closed after one week and ended my brush with stardom.

Excerpt #2:After the best night’s sleep I’d ever had, I awoke to see the sun much higher in the sky than I expected. Rolling over to look at the alarm clock, I was shocked to see it was almost eight in the morning. Never in my life had I slept in so long. On rare occasions, I had sometimes slept until seven, but usually my internal alarm clock had my eyes open at four a.m., rain, hail or shine.
Rolling over I saw the beautiful woman, who the previous night told me she was mine, still sound asleep. Careful not to wake her just yet, I hopped out of bed, threw on a tee, and went in search of my mum.
I found her in the kitchen, busy as she washed some dishes.
“Morning sleepyhead,” she said with a chuckle.
“Morning. How come you let me sleep in so long?”
“Well, technically you’re still on holidays, so there’s no need for you to be up at the crack of dawn, and well...”
“Yeah, fine, I get it.” It was obvious Mum tried to give Mia and me a little private time.
“Your dad saddled Mack and Jessie before he left this morning, so feel free to take Mia out and show her the property.” I just nodded my head in understanding. “Also, I have something for you that I think you’ll need.” She reached into her pocket and pulled out a red velvet jewellery box. “This was your Grandma’s ring. I’m pretty sure you know what to do with it.”
As I took the ring, I knew Mum had given me her and Dad’s blessing to ask Mia to marry me. Ideas had already started to form as to where and when I would do it as I headed back into the bedroom to see if Sleeping Beauty was awake yet.
The most beautiful sight greeted me as I walked in the door. Mia was indeed awake. She yawned and stretched as she shook off the sleep haze. A tantalising sliver of skin was visible between her shorts and top. My mouth watered in anticipation to see more.
“Good morning,” I said as I walked over and sat down next to her on the bed.
“You should have woken me up,” she grumbled.
“I’ve only been awake about fifteen minutes myself. Mum has bacon and eggs cooking as we speak. Do you want to eat or shower first?” I asked.
“Eat please,” she said as she crawled into my lap. She then gave me a fantastic good morning kiss, wiggling her hips just enough to tease me into a hard-on. After the kiss ended, she laughed and hopped off my lap.
“You coming?” she asked as she headed to the door.
“Almost,” I said in a cheeky tone. I stood up so she could get the full effect of what she’d done to me.
She ran back over to me and whispered in my ear, “If you’re a good boy I’ll take care of that for you in the shower after breakfast.”
That didn’t help the situation in my pants at all. The sassy woman then had the hide to flash me her boobs as she ran out the door. I was the luckiest man on the planet. I followed her out of the bedroom with the intention on being the most well behaved boy I could be because if that was the only price I had to pay to get her in the shower with me, it was one I was more than willing to pay.

New Poetry Book Release A Collection of Hearts

What is A Collection Of Hearts ?
A Collection of Hearts is a book of dreams and hopes shaped by the feelings and experiences of a young girl growing into womanhood.
Searching and longing for the one connection we all so want and desire so much in life, that one person who understands us and wants to know everything about us...
Someone to share our laughter and our tears, which will stay with us through the good and the bad times too.
A Collection of Hearts is a journey back in time for the reader to experience those  moments of wonder all over again  when we finally find that one person to even our first heartache and the time we feel  it is the end of everything and there is no tomorrow for us ...
A Collection of Hearts is a book of heartfelt wonderful poetry that even if you aren’t a poetry reader you will find yourself taken back in time and being touched by the loving and caring rawness of each poem as it is written straight from the heart and soul....
My Biography by Peyton Heart  Where do I begin to say who I am ... I ask myself many times ... and the strange thing is I never get the same answer? Sometimes it’s a writer other it’s a poet... Other times it’s someone with words that’s cannot not be spoken but has to felt...

The poet in me has been there all my life. Growing up looking for the right person who will know how I feel.  Sometimes finding them sometimes not.
Growing up was not easy for me... when I was in primary school and had friends was the happiest time of my life
My class liked me and I had friends nearby and then it all changed. My parents told me when I was ten that we would be moving. Being torn away from the security and comfort of friends and happiness I had no choice. What choice do you have as a child?  You have no voice in this world. So we moved to a suburb that I had no friends my own age. School was worse I didn’t have many or hardly any friends at all and was bullied. By this time both my parents were working and my sister didn’t even care about me or how I felt... I was as they invisible.

Interview Questions: 1.       Where did the idea come from for the book?
The Idea for my book came from it being just a collection of feelings and dreams really
2.       What genre does your book fall under?
My book falls under romantic poetry
 3.   What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
The search for love and needing to connect with someone who loves us for who we are
  4.   Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
At the moment it is self-published but my main dream is to go into main stream
5.       How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
That’s hard to answer really because I already had all the poems already done
6     What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I’m not sure how to answer that one really, mine don't rhyme and are free verse
7.       Who or What inspired you to write this book?

At the start it wasn't meant as a book just a collection of thoughts and dreams
.     I had no one to share things with. No one to help me with any problems
So I just did the one thing I was good at. Writing. One became two and so on
I felt so much more at ease in my own world.
8.      What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
A few things might pique there interest: one is that I am part of a unique system of other personalities. That my host body Maurelle Lang has. She and we wrote these when she was younger. I am a real person and have my own feelings and thoughts I just help Maurelle express hers as well and help make her voice be heard.Second we aren’t just poets we plan on writing a whole series of novels based on our first story called ‘Shadow land Desires’ once we finish it. We never even dared to dream of having a book published and now it is real. So I hope you will follow us as we keep writing with Maurelle and the others of us who help her. She has Grayson and Rose who help with the novels and also with some of the darker poetry as well.

A Time Apart, Book Barrage, Interview, Give away and Review #cblspromos

A Time Apart: A Novelby Brittany BatongTime-Travel RomancePublisher: Chances Press, LLCRelease Date: Feb 25, 2013Heat Level: SensualWord Count: 105,000
Buy LinksAmazon: / ARe: /  B&N:  / Kobo:

DescriptionA Time Apart explores the bittersweet duality of our existence among the past and the present, through the eyes of Kara, a twenty-something art school graduate who has resigned herself to contentment in the routines of everyday family life as a commuting suburbanite.
An unexpected attraction to Jake, a slacker-colleague in her office, is further complicated when a visit to a lavish old movie palace initiates a journey into the past. Kara and Jake inexplicably find themselves thrown into the turbulence of Los Angeles during the Great Depression, maintaining a feigned marriage as inhabitants of a boarding house in a forgotten community of Los Angelescalled Bunker Hill. As partners in a past that is both exciting and adversarial, Jake and Kara begin to develop very real romantic feelings for one another, even as they are bound to identities in a time that does not yet exist.
A Time Apart follows two people as they discover a Los Angeles beyond their separate lives, beyond all comprehensible experience, and beyond that which is real or imagined.
ExcerptPreface: 2011Sometimes I walk around downtown, imagining it not as this Los Angeles, but as our Los Angeles. My mind strips away the high-rises and the mirrored glass, isolating what is left of the city that we knew, surrounding it with the familiar places we walked; supplementing the self-absorbed professionals of the Financial District (who seem to me to talk to themselves but really into their hands-free devices) with instead the department stores and proprietors of “Art Lane”, defying the assumptions of the highbrow set, making statements and movements with their thoughts and their art. What would they think of this overly polished place their world has become?
I wander to 6th Street, seeing not the jumbled mix of cheap eateries and plain façades, but the warm bookshops burgeoning with poetry and compatriots; imagining the streets not with orange Metro buses and blue DASH buses, but instead with red and yellow cars that sail past on their cable connections, Delia reaching out to grab them, her laughter ringing in my ears.
And then I think of Jake, my mind carrying me to all the places we walked that first day. Sometimes I retrace our steps from the Theatre District, with its treasure trove of lavish movie palaces, to Pershing Square, where my reverie allows me to push away the gaudy concrete and primary colors of a park redesign gone wrong; and instead see the trees and grass of that other Los Angeles. My eyes continue to the grand old Biltmore Hotel, still as proud and dignified as it was and now somewhat out of place, and I smile as I think of that first night. If only I could dream vividly enough, I could bring to life the steep incline up Olive Street to Bunker Hill and find my way home to our old Victorian, up the concrete steps and through the creaky porch, into the parlor where our friends gather, spinning records on the old Victrola while I trip on the back step as Jake tries to waltz me around the room. My heart begins to throb in my throat and tears sting at my eyes.
But on I walk, as if it is the only way to keep those memories real.

It is when the memories are their most vivid that I chance upon a group of colleagues, who smile at me and say “hello”. I smile back but resent this invasion, this reminder that the place we knew is no longer here. That place, that life that we lived before us, before now, is gone forever. I am completely alone in its dreamlike memory, my profound grief unspoken, my loss without a voice, strangled at the back of my throat, a silent cry: unutterable.
About the AuthorBrittany Batong finds that the most fascinating stories lie within the hearts of seemingly ordinary people. She enjoys working and playing in Downtown Los Angeles, uncovering its hidden treasures; and lives in Santa Clarita, Californiawith her husband and two kids.

Interview Questions: 1.       Where did the idea come from for the book?

I actually had a situation similar to one in A Time Apart, where an attraction I felt from a seemingly insignificant moment with an acquaintance got me to wondering about how people wrestle with these ideas of emotional faithfulness.  As a married woman, I wondered what I would do if I was thrown into a situation that made exploring those feelings a possibility: would I be able to remain true to who I am and to my husband?  Then the idea of time travel came to mind, and the rest just sort of flowed from there.  I wanted the journey through time to be significant in reach, but subtle in that they don’t realize they are time travelling.  It’s like they just fall through a little hole in time and have to deal with the life-changing effects of that little stumble.2.       What genre does your book fall under? We’re promoting A Time Apart as a romance, but really it is equally historic fiction, with a teensy bit of science fiction rolled in with the time travel.3.       Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?A Jay Hernandez type and a Mila Kunis type.4.       What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?Kara, a married twenty-something art school graduate, shares an unexpected journey through time to depression-era Los Angeles with Jake, a slacker-colleague from her office to whom she feels an unwanted attraction.5.       Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?I started by self-publishing, but then Chances Press picked up the extended distribution.6.       How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?Seven months.7.       What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?Somewhere in Time and The Time Traveller’s Wife.8.       Who or What inspired you to write this book?My own experiences informed the contemporary portion of the novel, and then my love for the city of Los Angeles and many of the hidden pieces of its history supported the exploration of that city’s past. 9.       What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? The setting of 1930’s Los Angeles is one that is not as heavily explored as others in local history.  This is the everyman’s Los Angeles, not the Hollywood-focused LA that we often see.  There was so much going on at the time!  You have The Great Depression that was paralyzing the economy of the whole country; then there were additional challenges to the Mexican American population with the often unfounded deportation of both Mexican nationals and American citizens of Mexican heritage; and the bohemian arts movements that were happening in Los Angeles also made it this exciting place to be a progressive, creative individual.

My 5 Star Review
For the first time in a very long time I shed tears at the end of a book. It is a story that holds you captivated and you wonder at the final outcome and although you know it could never be a good one it still stirs a wanting for these two characters to be together, to have that happy ending we are all entitle too. But helas it was not mend to be, so make sure when you have your copy to grab a Kleenex at the end.
Co workers Jake Nava and Kara Smith Malagon found themselves at an old theater when a earthquake rocked the building and pushed them back to 1931.
Both were married each with a child and they mourn this loss for some time. Struggling to understand and trying to find away back.
Not sure what happened they found themselves in a world different but yet still the same learning how to adapt to the time difference and finding work. But to find a place to stay proofed they had to be married and for two years they played the role. Fell in love since they thought they would never return to their own lives and had a child together.
Each character had to adapt in their own way into this new life, finding work in a place where the great depression swept through the country and Mexicans were deported if they had no papers. Since they are both half Mexican and have no papers on them they had to be careful.
Trained in art and printing Kara found work at a Stationary shop and soon she was able to make her own art, selling it. Creating an income for them. For Jake it was more difficult, since there was no way he could find a desk job without papers. His love for cars cause him to find work as a mechanic but as times grew more difficult work became less and as time goes on he had to rely on her as sole provider.
Soon Kara's judgmental spirit changed as she get to know Jake for the man he is. Seeing him through new eyes as he makes the best in the situation.
During this time they grew closer to each other and with the loving care of their boarding room friends they established a new found love for each other. Jake aloud her to be her self, helping her and motivating her to the best she could be. His love for her lifting her and making her whole.
I really liked his character, supportive, caring willing to take risks and walking the extra mile for her to proof that he loved her.
When their baby daughter was born their life was complete.
Then the next earthquake hit and life as they grew accustomed to change once again. Finding it hard to adapt since they were back in their old roles being the husband and wife of other people but still longing for each other. Apart but yet still one. Mourning and adapting once again to a new life.
Heart felt and compassionate, the author wrote the story with a deep understanding of their losses in different aspects of their lives. Creating a believable story that touched the heart and I must admit wondering what I would have done in the same circumstances.
A great time-travel romance that takes you back to a time forgotten where simplicity and the genuine care of friends and people was still alive and where two people found a strength they never knew they had.

Blurb
Like Philippa Gregory and Alison Weir, Sandra Byrd has attracted countless fans for evoking the complexity, grandeur, and brutality of the Tudor period. In her latest tour de force, she poses the question: What happens when serving a queen may cost you your marriage—or your life?

In 1565, seventeen-year-old Elin von Snakenborg leaves Sweden on a treacherous journey to England. Her fiancé has fallen in love with her sister and her dowry money has been gambled away, but ahead of her lies an adventure that will take her to the dizzying heights of Tudor power. Transformed through marriage into Helena, the Marchioness of Northampton, she becomes the highest-ranking woman in Elizabeth’s circle. But in a court that is surrounded by Catholic enemies who plot the queen’s downfall, Helena is forced to choose between her unyielding monarch and the husband she’s not sure she can trust—a choice that will provoke catastrophic consequences.

Vividly conjuring the years leading up to the beheading of Mary Queen of Scots, Roses Have Thorns is a brilliant exploration of treason, both to the realm and to the heart.

My 5 Star Review

The Elizabeth 1 Reign was one of the most interesting time periods in history many spoke about. Books have been written and movies made from this time that changed many of England's views, religion and politics. All due to a strong willed woman that knew her duty, her love for her people and her firm believe in an Almighty God.
She was not only a queen but a woman that searched for acceptance, love and devotion from all those attending her court.
One of these woman was Elin Ulfsdotter of Fyllingarum, Maid of Honor to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 1.
Later after Helena, who adopted her new English name married Marquess William of Northampton she became the highest titled lady after the queen and served her for many years.
The author masterly crafted the story from this well known women bringing their lives too the forefront to  familiarize ourselves with the time period, the lives they led and the decisions they made to better themselves, serving those they love with a humbled servitude, companionship and trust we do not find today.
The author's thorough research could be seen as these people's lives became real on the paper and you are drawn into the history and day to day duties at court.
Treason was at the order of the day as Mary, Queen of the Scots tried to over throw Elizabeth 1 with tenuous attacks against the Sovereign's throne. Her Ladies-in-Waiting was not only there to console her or help her to dress but also to protect her at all cost. Helena the closest to her Majesty the person who decided who would come in close proximity of the Queen. Her eyes always open and not to be bought at any cost. Loyal to the end.
A tedious work that took her from her own home and husband Thomas Gorges, more on the road because of his own duties to the Queen than at her side. Giving birth to eight living children she served in the court under the Queen's reign managing and running the "household" with a sharp wit. Always remaining in control and reaching out to those around her.
At first we saw this unsecured young woman being shipped from Sweden to help their own Princess, and where she find that royalty commanded as they see fit, selfish and demanding at all times. A place she found she did not want to be.
When the marquess fell in love with her and asked for her hand in marriage she stayed behind, becoming a true lady. But it was a long wait during which she has grown in maturity, to a person the Queen trusted and respected, a right hand that loved the Queen with genuine care.
She was also torn between her own affairs and that of the crown, Elizabeth's demands were not easily met and it almost cost her, her marriage to a young cousin that only saw Thomas for what she could gain.
Her devotion and love to her second husband was beautifully illustrated and at the end she managed to capture his heart once again.
Thomas, without any titles and who fell in love with her. The man not good enough to marry this high titled lady spend time in the Tower after the Queen learned of the secret marriage.  Imprisoning Helena in her home, being with child taking the risk of contacting the Queen to plead her case with the Queen. Hoping that the friendship she had with Her Highness would secure them of a sound future.
I really admired this couple that was willing to stand against odds, making a life for themselves and having eight children together and still remain loyal to the throne. At the cost of their own happiness they served their Queen so that we, years later can still read about them, learn about their devotion to each other.
A beautiful love story all on its own.
Step back in time and enjoy this wonderful written story.

BlurbChicago socialite Veronica Jamison is determined to shake off her sheltered lifestyle and overbearing parents. She heads to her grandfather’s small town of Kortville, ready to roll up her sleeves and work for the family construction business. She’ll prove her worth, even if it means answering to the company’s ruggedly handsome co-owner, Matt.
Matt Shaw just wants to run his business, spend time with the niece he’s raising on his own, and give back to the townspeople who have stood by him. Managing a spoiled-rotten princess he knows he’ll never be good enough for? Not part of his plan. But as he gets to know Veronica, he learns there’s more to her than her beautiful looks and designer clothes. She’s got a heart as rich as her background.
With the quirky townspeople rallying against Veronica inheriting her grandfather’s business, it’s up to Matt to try to drive her out of town. But how can he, when instead she’s driving her way into his heart?

Excerpt"You left your tools behind," Veronica noted as Matt backed out of the driveway. "We didn't finish hanging the gate, and I really wanted to meet the owner of that house."
"I'll come back and finish up. The job's almost done."
"So I'm your top priority." She leaned her forehead against the window. "That's so sweet."
His chest tightened, but he kept his voice impassive. "You have a warped idea of top priority if you think someone who makes you beat yourself up with tools and then pass out is sweet."
She lifted her head enough to smile weakly at him. "Matt Shaw, you are without a doubt the sweetest boss I've ever had."
His fingers twitched. He clenched the steering wheel, but it was a poor substitute for the skin he longed to touch. "You're only saying that because I haven't fired you yet."

BlurbCreed has been beating himself up for the hateful way he reacted to Bronx after an intoxicated kiss. However, it stirred something in him that should be brought to light. Creed must visit the raceway and stake his claim on not only the winnings but on the man he's come to desire.
Bronxhas been keeping his love a secret for three long years. The slip up kiss bears the same resemblance to the incident that caused him to lose his old best friend in New York. Will facing each other be a simple delivery of apologies or will they finally admit and succumb to their desires?
Warning: This title is intended for readers over the age of 18 as it contains explicit sex scenes and/or situations and adult language, and may be considered offensive to some readers.
ExcerptThe slamming of the house's front door brought Creed's head out from under his Camaro's hood. Since he'd moved into the guest house over the garage, he was used to his aunt finding him to fix a leak or burn some trash. However, determined steps crunched the pebbles outside and he knew instantly it wasn't his aunt. Nope, his bitchy sixteen-year-old cousin looked as if she was about to make her weekly round. Here we go again. He was already shaking his head before she even walked inside the garage. Judging by the color of the sky, it must've been close to seven pm. She had been on the same routine for the past four Saturdays. Cassie was going to ream him for not going to the dragway. Since Sparco's Raceway sat clear on the other side of town, his aunt didn't trust Cassie to go alone. Since he was an adult, albeit a semi-responsible one, Aunt Georgia said Cassie could go so long as he did.

Well, he wasn't going.
Creed hadn't been to the dragway in a month and Cassie was fit to be tied. He heard the clap-slap of flip-flops against her feet and when they stopped suddenly, he knew she was right behind him. He could feel her lurking like some insane, hormonal teen.
"This is bullshit, Creed." He cringed when he heard her gum pop. "Becky says Gunther is starting to eye Jessica in my absence. Can we please go tonight, please?" God, the begging had been the worst of it all.
Wiping the smut off his hands he turned and noted she'd gotten dressed in hopes he'd go race. He was ten years her senior, so she was more like a younger sister since he'd been raised by her mother over half his life. He'd really stepped up to take on the man role when Uncle Herman died six years ago. He'd even kept the auto parts shop operational but didn't know he'd have to play the father/brother role and teach Cassie how to grow up. He knew exactly what this boy Gunther had on his mind when he looked at her. However, telling her any different would only cause more rebellious tendencies.
Cassie came only to his chest and her blonde hair was twisted up in some clippie thing. She gave him the sad puppy-dog eyes and even quivered her bottom lip in effect to win him over.
"No. I need a break from racing. It's becoming too much."
"Yeah, uh-huh, and that's why every Saturday night you tinker around in here as if preparing to go, yet you don't." She looked at the empty carport beside his Camaro: it had once been occupied on Saturdays as well. His best friend would prep his vehicle for the races right beside him. Now, the vacant space stayed empty and cold, just as he felt. "God, what happened between you and Bronx?"
Creed crinkled his nose. "Nothing." Which was untrue, he'd fucked up royally and he didn't know how to set things right or even if they could be set right. A mere apology didn't compare to the words he'd screamed at Bronxas he watched him leave a month ago.
Cassie rolled her eyes. "Right and when I saw him at Jimmy's Corner Store the other day he avoided me like the plague." She chewed her bottom lip, her look pensive. "He looked really upset."
Creed tossed the dirty rag on the ground and slammed the car hood down. Cassie flinched and backed up when he took a menacing step closer to her. "He fucking should be. Three years… you think you know someone and they pull some shit that changes things."
"What do you mean? What happened?"
"Forget it." Creed moved to the worktable and tossed his tools back in the box, clanging them loud enough in hopes the noise would drown out anymore of Cassie's probing questions. He didn't fucking want to answer anything having to do with Bronx or why they were fighting. He didn't want to explain his disappearance to their friends and feel like even more of a douche. Most of all, he didn't what to face the aftermath with Bronx. How could he apologize for how he acted and what he said? Bronx had rattled their friendship with an unexpected kiss. However, that wasn't what freaked him out. He'd snapped because he enjoyed it and wanted Bronxin a way he'd never before.
About the Author A rocker by heart, Chacelyn Pierce is constantly ear plugged with heavy tunes blaring to stir up the phantom personalities that swarm her mind. It’s no surprise that she enjoys writing and reading to satiate her appetite for the male antagonist in a story. Married to a blatant redhead and mothering a diva, there is never a dull moment in the house. As a native Texan, she doesn't personally own a horse but follows the unwritten southern rule of knowing how to ride one. When she’s not testing the emotional capacity of her characters, she works part time as a dog groomer.

Interview Questions:  Anne Lange – Worth the Risk
1.       Where did the idea come from for the book? There was a call from a publisher I follow for Canadian based stories.  I used that basis, picked a Canadian holiday, threw in a little personal experience, and voilà, the idea was form.  Though, I didn’t end up publishing through that publisher, the feedback I received helped the story become what it is today.2.       What genre does your book fall under? Worth the Risk is classed as a Contemporary Erotic Romance. It is a novella, and it has more explicit sex scenes, probably a heat level of 3.5 or 4.       3.       Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?Johnny Depp and Yvonne Strahovski.  I would say they definitely have the right look!  And I’m a huge Johnny Depp fan.

4.       What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?Even the hottest sex might not be enough to ease the pain of the past.
5.       Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Worth the Risk has been published by Etopia Press, and is available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, All Romance Ebooks and Kobo.6.       How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?Good question.  Probably a month, but then it took another couple of months to get it to the point I was happy with it.  But, it still underwent another extensive re-write before it was finally accepted by Etopia. And it took over a year to make all that happen. 7.       What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?Any story about two people who fell in love as kids, split up, and then get back together again.  A few examples may include:·         His Unexpected Family by Robyn Thomas, Contemporary, Entangled Publishing·         Second Chances by Rita Oberlies, Contemporary, reunion, Entangled Publishing ·         One Starlit Night by Stacy Dawn, Contemporary, reunion, Wild Roses Press·         That Girl’s the One I Love by Alana Lorens, Contemporary, reunion, Wild Roses Press

      8.       Who or What inspired you to write this book?
Me. This underlying event in this story is based on my own personal experience. Though my life and that of the female lead is very different.      9.       What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?Well, it’s a novella, so it’s not a long read.  It’s a reunion story, and I think people like those.  And I think it’s the circumstances because even for women who haven’t suffered the same experience, they can still relate, because it’s something we all fear.
Thanks for being such an sport Anne, hope the sales will go well and your expectations will be met.

EXCERPT Two
Knocking once, Donovan entered Madden’s office. The stare of his boss, no, his friend, immediately met him. “We have to talk.”Donovan grinned, “Those aren’t words you like to hear.” Trying for casual, but suspecting Madden saw right through it, he took a seat and waited.“Look, Van, I’ve been trying to piece this together for a while now. Shit, maybe even since my own Pronouncement. Something has been off with you. I didn’t plan to get all in your business, but this rut you’re in affected your decision-making in the field. Now I have no choice.” Madden paused and when Donovan said nothing, he continued, “This is going to sound crazy but I think you may have unknowingly made contact with your mate.”With that statement, Donovan whipped his head up. Madden shouldn’t have figured it out yet, and Van surely didn’t even know. Could he deny knowing anything? He could either play into Madden’s assumptions, or he could come clean. Maybe Madden had something to help Donovan work through this mess.Jumping in with both feet Donovan said, “I know who my mate is.”“That’s great,” Madden responded without thought. Then he paused, considering, “then why this mood? And why haven’t we met her?” He cocked his head. It was obvious Madden knew something wasn’t right.“She asked for time,” Donovan explained.“What are you talking about? You don’t have time once you’ve made contact. The Claiming is inevitable.”“Yes, it’s inevitable but not necessarily compelling enough to be immediate.” Donovan shook his head, the absurdity of this conversation taking hold.“The hormonal surges have to be doing a number on both of you,” Madden hypothesized.“She’s taking herbs and I’m…handling it-”Interrupting, Madden said ironically “not very well, Van. You’re not handling it well. No Valendite Breed could handle this situation well. I’ve never heard of such a thing before. What were you thinking?”“I was thinking if I let her come to me on her own terms, she’d find a way to love me.” Donovan stood and walked to the window where he didn’t have to see the look of sympathy play across Madden’s face. “It’s Paige,” Donovan offered.“Layla’s sister, Paige?” Madden’s voice was raised and Donovan couldn’t be sure what had him so angry.“Yes. I tried to talk to her at your Pronouncement. She seemed scared and I remembered Layla, how difficult it was for her, and I couldn’t do that to Paige. I took the next few mission assignments with Seamus to keep out of dodge.” He paused, as if watching the scenes play out before him. “Then at Caedon’s Pronouncement, when I saw her, something snapped and now I can barely fight off the need to claim her.”“Then I sent you on the recovery mission that went to hell,” Madden filled in.Donovan nodded. “I was glad to leave again. She still wasn’t ready, says she has these goals and mating will change everything and she can’t leave behind everything she’s worked for.”“She runs a bakery, right? Who says that has to change?”“She’s competing in some baker’s competition in France next month. Her goal is to achieve master baker and then she’ll take time off to mate,” Donovan explained what he knew from listening in on Paige’s conversation with her sisters.“It doesn’t work that way. You don’t plan a mating, a claiming. For Goddess’s sake, you both are getting weaker even if you don’t realize it yet. What were you thinking, Van?” Madden’s voice grew steadily louder until all at once, his voice cut off. Clearing his throat, he asked, “Does my mate know about this?”Donovan swallowed but held his tongue.“Donovan. Now. I want the truth right now.”Donovan nodded. “She’s bound through a silence pact.”“Dammit. Listen to me Donovan, and heed my warning. You need to claim your mate. You realize Paige’s soul sin is pride. This is the only thing holding her back. She can’t allow something to control her so she calls the shots.” Madden stood and walked over to Donovan. He placed his hand on Donovan’s shoulder and squeezed. “You, my man, are going to have to call the shots now.”
EXCERPT Three
Donovan dangled his fork laden with chocolate cake in front of Paige. “Take a bite.”“I can feed myself,” Paige snipped.“I know. I just wanted to have some fun. Play along, Principessa.”With the slightest hesitation, Paige opened her mouth and took in the bite. She moaned her pleasure as she closed her mouth and savored the rich decadence as Donovan pulled the fork from between her lips. His eyes were fixated on her mouth even as he took another forkful and placed it in his own mouth.“Delicious,” Donovan’s voice was deep and rough, full of the lust he was finding difficult to reign in. He fed them alternating bites and watched as she enjoyed the moment. For once, she almost seemed unconcerned, unhurried and, dare he suggest it, relaxed. Unable to stop himself, Donovan leaned in to lick a tiny smudge of the chocolate sauce from her lip. When she didn’t flinch—thank the Goddess—he brushed his lips against hers, this time for a kiss. It was gentle and slow at first, until she responded with her own need, and then he couldn’t help but deepen the kiss. Paige sighed ever so gently and opened to him. He ran his tongue along her lips and inside her mouth. She was delicious; a tempting blend of chocolate and desire.Touching her after being denied all this time made him tremble with need. She was an exquisite beauty and yet…magical. It was as if he held a fairy in his palm, so delicate and soft. Donovan wanted to feel this power between them for all time. His mate was spectacular.Suddenly she pulled away. “Stop this,” Paige said as she pushed against his chest with her tiny hands. Donovan was huge, broad compared to her slighter frame, and his muscles bulged as he took deep breaths to steady himself. He reigned his power in and sought self-control. Perhaps bringing her around wasn’t going to be as easy as he thought. He needed a way to show her she needed him as much as he needed her.“Principessa, that was a close call. I can’t play this game of red light-green light with you without ramifications.” Only a fraction of the warning contained in Donovan’s eyes was conveyed by his tone. “I need to focus on the Coupe du Monde. Once it’s over, once I’ve accomplished that, I can give myself to you.” Paige used her high-pitched, sweet-as-sin voice that seemed always to get him to agree. He was on to her now though, and it was not going to work this time.“Here’s the thing about that, Princess, you don’t get to choose the when.”“Yes, I do,” Paige actually crossed her arms in front of her chest and pouted, “And stop calling me Princess. I know you don’t mean it nicely.” She actually sounded hurt. Goddess, he wanted to bite her pouty lips, remembering the taste of only a few minutes earlier.Instead, he asked, “Do you control everything in your life?”“Yes.” Paige’s eyes flared and then turned sad. Donovan now saw how her need for control affected her. She was actually spiraling out of control and could barely hold on. He knew just the way to help her. Smiling, Donovan realized Madden had been right in his advice. “Paige,” Donovan spoke her name very purposely, “You’re right. I use Princess when you are acting like a spoiled one. Now, you will need to forgive me for this but I have only now discovered what it is you have needed all along. Giving you time was not the answer.” As he made his final statement, he grabbed firmly onto her upper arms and brought her body across his lap.
EXCERPT Five – barrage stops 5&10
Placing Paige ever so gently onto their bed, Donovan lay beside her and drank from her lips. He used a gentle touch, working her mouth in a tender and reassuring kiss. He needed simply to join with her in every way possible and he wanted to savor every moment along the way. He felt their connection reach out and bind them together as her body melted against him. She eagerly took everything he offered.Donovan pulled away to look at her. She was still in her gown, a magnificent traditional red gown that had the shimmering hue of purple, her favorite color. Her breast peaked from the top, the corset style design pushing them further up so they spilled out slightly. He ran his hand along her leg and felt the sheer fabric hanging lower than the shorter silk skirting underneath. The fabric was soft to touch, but he was seeking her skin.“I want to make love to you in your gown.” Donovan spoke as he moved down slowly to lift her layers of skirting up, bringing it to her waist and exposing the tiniest scrap of purple lace. A soft growl emanated from his chest. He simply couldn’t hold it back as his eyes feasted on her ivory skin decorated with this sexy piece of lace. “What you do to me, Paige.”“You affect me the same,” Paige responded as she watched him through her lowered lashes. He could see the lust in her eyes and hoped his own desire was reflected back at her.Donovan massaged Paige’s thighs, slowly circling his thumb closer to her panties. Her muscles grew relaxed just as he knew they would. He worked her legs farther and farther apart, then placed his palms on either side of her panties, gently running his thumbs under the elastic. Paige sighed at the sensation and Donovan moved progressively closer to where she needed him most. Her sighs turned to moans as sensations turned hotter and Donovan leaned down to kiss directly over her clit. Only her panties were between them.“Take them off, Donovan,” Paige encouraged him.He moved them aside and puffed a breath of air onto her slick folds. Paige trembled and, needing the touch as much as she did, Donovan slipped two fingers into the tiny panties and drew them down her legs. Yes, he could’ve willed them away with his power, but tonight he wanted his mate in the purest form. For tonight, he’d set his powers aside.“I find myself hungry,” Donovan spoke in a rough voice as he kissed his way back up her legs. He returned to her unrestricted core. He could see every delicious part of his mate. She was wet and slick for him. Her desire so evident, Donovan wanted to scream out his good fortune.

Excerpt #1

“Rachel, I’m not turning this car around just because you forgot something. What could possibly be so important?” My mother’s clipped, irritable tone would normally make me back down instantly, but I couldn’t afford to lose this particular argument.
“I need to…” I trailed off as I watched the figure draw closer to our car. I could feel his eyes on me and the pull at my magic as it came closer. My heart beat wildly and sweat began to gather on my upper lip. The Alexanders warned me about Hunters, but I’d never really believed them—not until now.
“If you need something, you’ll buy it here, or you won’t have it. Understood?” She opened the car door and grabbed her purse. I wondered if a Hunter would dare attack me in the crowded Wal-Mart parking lot. Prickles of fear shot up my spine, and I decided I didn’t want to find out how persistent a Hunter could be.
“Wait!” I shouted, grabbing the strap of her purse and nearly causing it to break. “I…” The Hunter was so close now; I could make out the ragged outline of his tattered clothing. He slipped in between parked cars and crept closer. I cursed myself for having left my necklace at home. I knew my request to drive twenty miles back home seemed absurd to my mother, but I couldn’t afford to travel all the way to Atlantawithout it. If the Hunters could find me here, they could find me anywhere.
My mother’s furious gaze settled on me, and in times past, I would have stammered an apology. Opening and closing my mouth in helpless desperation, I glanced behind me; the creature was so close, I could see his glowing red eyes. Clutching at my mother’s arm, I vowed that if I escaped my present danger unscathed, I would never doubt Jerica’s warnings again. Panic emboldened me, and I met my mother’s angry stare.
I delved into her mind, felt our connection click into place, and overrode her will with minimal effort. “We must return home. You left the iron on,” I lied. Her eyes widened as the implanted notion took root.
She gasped. “Oh, my goodness! Rachel, I think I left the iron on. We’ll have to go back home. Call your brother and tell him we’ll be a little later than we expected,” she urged as she slammed the car door shut. Another mental nudge from my mind had her peeling out of the parking spot, nearly hitting the Hunter as we passed him.
I trembled from head to toe during our drive back home and my shallow breathing made me feel light-headed. Scanning my surroundings, I flew into the house, grabbed my necklace, and fumbled with the clasp as I placed it around my neck. In an instant, my panic subsided, and I took a deep breath.
“Was I right? Did I leave the iron on?” Mama asked as I climbed into the passenger seat.
“Yes. It’s a good thing you remembered,” I said.
“It certainly was a blessing we decided to stop off at Wal-Mart, wasn’t it?” she asked. I nodded in agreement. It was a blessing. Had we made it to Atlantawithout my necklace, I’d have been a Hunter magnet for a week. And, had one caught up with me, I never would have made it back to Oaktree. At least not alive.

My 4 Star Review

If you are into magic and witches this would be the book for you. We are introduced to two female characters, both seventeen years old still trying to understand the normal day to day stuff but confronted with Demons and Hunters that wants to abducts Rachel and kill the Alexander family. A family that for generations were a mix between Fae and Witches, with a strong heritage. Already they have lost one son because of this on going animosity between the Demons and Witches. Their world filled with magic and persuasions. When the two young girls entered the scene they were introduced to the family secrets because of each one’s uniqueness. Rachel that comes from a long lineage of witches but was brought up with the believe that witchcraft and magic was evil had a hard time to accept that she was not only a powerful witch but promised to the Demon Nevaro but that another Demon Re’Vel wanted her for himself. Believing that she was evil just as her father was. In the mist of teenage problems, adjusting to a new world, exams and her boyfriend she had a hard time.Alisa the other young girl who was always in the shadows, hiding from her bully of a cousin Becky caught the eye of Jace and soon they became very good friends.  The first in fact of her seventeen years. Jace Alexander introduced her to his family after she protected him from a Hunter, learning that there was another world outside of her school life and room. Soon they had her excesizing a vigorous program to not only protect the family but her self.  This gave her the boldness to stand up for herself. Refute the constant onslaught of her cousin and she venture out to experience more things at school. Allowing her self the time to fall in love with none other than Bryce, Jace’s brother. She became a strong willed woman who was not afraid of the dark shadows.Bryce claimed Alisa for himself through the Claiming Word Spell almost like the chastity ring you would find within the church. Devoted to each other giving her time to know him as a person, never pushing her to do things she was not ready for. I highly admired this about his character.Through out the story line the two characters developed constantly through the trails they faced.  Secrets and lies are lived as part of the daily occurrence. Parents were not informed of their new lives or the reason they hang out so much with the Alexander family. Developing their gifts and talents under the watchful eye of Abe and Jerica, the parents of Bryce and Jace. Rachel was introduced to her cousin from Africa, a powerful witch himself that convinced her almost of the caring attributes of Re’Vel that tormented her even in her dreams. The power of persuasion deliberately used to change her mind. But at the end all worked out for the family and the two young women. Leaving you with many unanswered questions. But do not fear it seems there will be a follow up.Personally I will not recommend this book since I do not belief in the topic. But it was well written and fast paced that did entertain at some extend. A book that many would enjoy in this genre.

Excerpt #1At thirteen, I was too old for most people to consider adopting. No matter how hard Mary looked, she couldn’t find me a foster home. I went from having everything to having nothing. My parents weren’t well off. They were just your average middle-income family with a mortgage. Once the house was sold and all the debts were paid, I wasn’t left with much. There was just enough money to buy a second-hand car when I was old enough and two suitcases full of personal possessions, including a few photo albums. That was all my thirteen years of life added up to: two suitcases.

My first few weeks at Abbott’s were probably the worst of my life. I spent my days just going through the motions at school. At night, I would cry in bed until sleep finally claimed me. After about three weeks of feeling as if I was drowning in a never-ending pit of despair, I met Anthony. I felt the bed dip behind me one night as I was lying on my side and sobbing particularly hard. I was so upset I didn’t immediately register that it meant someone was lying with me. Then I felt an arm wrap around me and heard a soothing voice in my ear telling me everything was going to be okay.
When I woke up the following morning, I rolled over to see just who had climbed into bed with me. A skinny boy with short brown hair grinned at me.
“Anthony Scott.” He held his hand out.
“Elise Morgan,” I replied. “Thanks for last night.”
“Ain’t nothing.”
We talked for a little while longer, getting to know one another. Anthony was the same age as me, but had been at Abbott’s since he was six. His parents were drug addicts, which caused his removal from their care. After telling him how sorry I was that had happened, I explained my story. It was still so hard to talk about, but I got through it and only cried a little bit.
After that day, Anthony and I were inseparable. We were the best of friends. We did everything together. When I tried ballet, he did too, no matter how much teasing he got from the other boys. When he took up guitar, so did I, even though I sucked at it. Barely a day went by that we didn’t see or speak to each other at least a hundred times. I doubt I would have survived my teenage years if it weren’t for my best friend.
Though the days were fairly easy to survive, the nights were always tough. Curled up in bed alone, the reality would hit the hardest. Memories of families lost and dreams of what could have been plagued each of our thoughts. We spent many a night in each other’s beds providing comfort. Those were always the nights I slept best.
For five years, it was Anthony and me against the world.
All that changed senior year. Anthony and I had both been working toward Cornell. We were in all the same AP classes and had the same GPA. We both applied for scholarships, knowing that was the only way we’d ever get to go to college. When I got a scholarship and he didn’t, reality came crashing down around us. I told him I wasn’t going without him, that it had been our dream. Anthony, always the strong one, told me I needed to go follow my dreams, that I deserved to go to Cornell, and he wasn’t going to let me waste my one chance to get the hell out of San Francisco.
After graduation, we agreed to have one last hoorah over the summer before heading off on our separate paths. We had the best time. We found a little apartment in the city. It was really only big enough for one person, but since it would just be Anthony’s apartment come fall, I didn’t mind it being a bit cramped.
We did everything we ever wanted to do together that summer. We visited museums and art galleries, rode the cable cars, and spent hours upon hours running around Fisherman’s Wharf. We even went to the beach and the zoo.
All the while, our separation loomed. It was constantly present in our thoughts, as if we knew it was going to be our last summer together. We were heading in two different directions come September and might never see one another again.

Excerpt“Evermore Ranch,” she read aloud.

“I hope this won’t upset your plans?”
“Would it matter? I signed a service contract that included a non-disclosure agreement. Even if I had a problem, I couldn’t tell a soul and I’ve promised you two weeks of my time.”
He chuckled softly. “Yes, two weeks to do my bidding.”
She almost choked at the thought of doing his bidding. “What the heck have I gotten myself into with you, Mr. McLemore? Exactly what type of office do you run?”
His expression changed. Sharpened. “Strictly business. Look, Dr. Rodriguez, we’ve gotten off on the wrong foot.”
“Wrong foot … the whole body is a problem, sir,” she hissed.
He smiled broadly, reassuring her. “Let’s discuss this later. This isn’t the correct time or place. Don’t you have to help the bride or something?”
“Yes. As a matter of fact, I do. I don’t know what you think you’ve contracted, but I’ll only supply you with vet services. As long as you understand that fact, there’s nothing more to discuss.”
“Well, there is. In the service agreement, there’s a provision that we need to discuss before you’re allowed access to the ranch barn and stable sites. So, either we can do it later or when you arrive in Texas. But until you and I have a little sit-down and get a few things ironed out, there won’t be any work for you to do directly. I’ve got a ranch to run, and I don’t have time to play games. I’ve already spent enough time finding a vet.” His eyes glittered and dropped to her mouth. “If you think I’m about to waste more time because you’ve got second thoughts, Dr. Rodriguez, the next communication you’ll have from Evermore Ranch will be from my attorneys. Had I known who you were before, believe me, I wouldn’t have … I’d never let the situation get away from me.”
Oh, this was rich. “Away from you. I’d say it got out of control. But that’s on your side of the table. Fine. I’ll honor my service contract. You’re right about one thing. The only thing of interest to me is treating your cattle. Once the job is done, I’ll be only too happy to leave you in peace and we can go our separate ways.”
Up close, his eyes shone sherry-colored. A muscle flexed along his jaw. His masculine scent of leather, smoke, and wood filled her head. The hard set of his mouth didn’t resemble the man from before. He’d done just as he’d promised, shutting one door, and leaving in place a man who didn’t look as if he enjoyed playing games. No this version of Matt McLemore had a locking gaze and if looks could kill, she was a goner.
“I’m glad we understand one another then, Dr. Rodriguez. I expect to meet with you tomorrow at your convenience. Our relationship will be strictly business, if that’s what got you in such a dither.”

Guest Post
Part One: How to Craft The Sexy Scene. Spark to Flame
In Tempted by Trouble, I knew this was going to be a hot ride. I wanted the sexual tension to be tight and immediate. With a romance, especially erotic romance,  there’s a necessary set up that launches the love story yet the hero and heroine must be properly positioned, so to speak. In Tempted the name says it all. The parking lot scene(s) provide Carolina and Matt the necessary tools to spark their interest heating each other’s desire. Tempting yet are they held apart.
What happened and why?
Carolina arrives at the church delivering her cousin, Cynthia “Sam” Cainwright to her wedding. They’ve been out all night and Carolina needs a few moments alone. I wanted to introduce the “villain” so I had him appear, briefly setting the heroine on pins and needles. This interlude is the has a domino effect in making Carolina question her own sexuality which is part of her arc. With this conflict in play, a vacuum occurs, or character “want/need.”In the opening scene, I had to place Matt in “charged” proximity but not so close he’d be available to the heroine. Actually I had to do something tricky so to keep Carolina and Matt apart. A compromising position that would be both off-putting and alluring. Difficult. As the writer, I needed to let Carolina see Matt within a context that served as his own interview. Sexually provocative. But that moment could get away from me if Carolina decided to drive off and never get a glimpse of Matt. I had to employ another conflict: voila, the fender bender. This becomes their first moment on stage. Highly important so I have them engaged with a sassy exchange.  We have the hero and heroine meet in less than stellar circumstance. The hero remains cool, collected, and a bit arrogant after being caught red-handed. Carolina likes what she sees, yet knows this type of bad boy spells trouble. Oh, but the type of trouble she likes…but can’t have. Who amongst us hasn’t wanted something we know might be sensation but is unsuitable. For Carolina, it’s Bad Boy Man Candy or sex-in-suit.So, here they are standing toe-to-toe on the wrong foot, but they don’t know really who the other is…or at least haven’t connected the dots yet (employer-employee). All the hero and heroine know is they’re highly attracted to each other. The spark to the flame.
