His brother, Nick, has dangerous connections and suggests a sadistic plan: grab the woman responsible and hand her over to Nick’s associates—sex-traffickers in San Francisco’s Russian Mafia. They offer Ty more than he dreamed possible. In exchange for the woman, they’ll finally let Nick leave the business for good—with his debt wiped clean and his heart still beating.

There’s just one problem: Ty kidnaps the wrong woman. Now he must protect Hannah Maguire from the very enemy he's unleashed.

While on the run, Ty and Hannah share their life stories and begin to bond—Hannah out of compassion for Tyler’s crushing loss, and Ty in his overwhelming need for atonement for having derailed Hannah’s life. Alone and desperate, they cling to each other in an intimate moment of human need, but their new bond puts Hannah at even greater risk, for the Russians are holding Nick as leverage to force Ty to complete their deal and hand over the girl.

Review for Justice Quinn #2, The Beautiful Justice Series

“He was intrigued to the point that it itched. She was on his mind like a soft obsession, and it was sweet for someone who knew nothing about love.”
                                Drew

Book 2 in “The Beautiful Justice Series”
Goodreads Amazon
“Her overflowing anointing drew out his spirit’s disease like the sea draws complication out from a mind and dispels it into soul peace.” Drew

Synopsis Andrew McKenzie has lived most of his life tormented by guilt and pain, haunted by the secrets of his past. When he is hired to work for Sienna and Jonathan Driscoll, his life changes more drastically than he could have ever imagined. Before long, Drew learns that this is not an ordinary job. There is definitely something unusual about the Driscoll family—especially their son, Justice Quinn.
Drew is introduced to the Driscolls’ daughter, Bella Maura, with whom he shares a special bond. As his relationship with Bella develops, Drew learns that he is not the only one hiding a secret. Each new day brings with it shocking revelations about the unique spiritual gifts of the Driscolls, and their God-given obligation to people suffering at the hands of the darkness and evil of the world.
Where is God’s justice? Does anyone hear the prayers of the abused, those too broken and weak to defend themselves? Why does it seem that so often the unjust escape punishment on the earth? Justice Quinn deals with each of these questions, as well as the concept of intercessory prayer, in order to help us understand why God’s timing must be reverenced.

"I think I know why,” Drew said slowly, carefully. “I grew up watching a perfect example of what not to be. It was beaten into my bones so that I’d never forget it”
About the author
Dawn Dyson lives with her husband on a farm in Nebraska and has degrees in both Animal Science and Education. She currently serves as the farm's office manager, but writing is her primary passion. She describes her writing as a God-given gift and strives to incorporate Christian themes throughout each of her works. She encourages others to find their passion in life, link it with God's and then share it with the world.

A giving heart is easily ill-used without wisdom, without discernment. Love is not blind. Love, real love, is the clearest thing anyone can see because it’s selfless. It’s lucent, and purer than water. In it, there is no place to hide. Discipline keeps the path straight. Obedience keeps the path narrow. Decision, against all influence, against all odds, paves that path with the promises of the Bible.
~*~*~The second book is the closest anyone has come in describing the Kingdom life as lived by this family and the extended characters of this book. If you are not spiritual inclined, nor understand the Holy Book this book would not be for you. You would think that this is just fictional, a lot of hogwash, but in reality for those who understand the Word and live it, will know it is not. The evidence is all around us if you are willing to open your eyes to the truth. The word is like a two-edge sword and used simultaneously to show us God's character in its dualistic form. Only by faith can you understand the principles in the Word as the truth and not from a natural mindset. Be open-minded and you will learn more of God's heart than you have every perceived.
~*~*~
My 5 Star review
Book 2, Justice Quinn continues 19 years later from the first book Bella Maura, in the series The Beautiful Justice series. In the fist book, we are introduced to the spiritual gifts of Bella, Jonathan and Sienna.
In book 2, it continues with Justice the small baby orphan whom they adopted into their family, raising as their own, becoming justice in the world. I loved the symbolism the author used in showing us that Justice and Faith have many similarities, both working to show you the way to Him. Restoring hope in the world. The characters Justice and Faith, a young man and young girl who fell in love and at the end Justice sacrificed himself so that Faith could truly live a life of purpose. Each character created so that you will better understand the true meaning of the words. Its influence into the world and their immediate family heartbreaking but yet fills your eyes with tears as the love blossoms between them.

We meet up with Bella, now a young woman in her early twenties, beautiful and still interceding for those around her. Working with her brother to help those in need.
We meet a young man, Andrew McKenzie. His past so shocking and severe but yet teaching this man what it is to be a godly man. His character strong but caring, suffering with past hurts but yet knowing enough to lay it down and be restored. His suffering makes his character believable, stronger, patient and beautiful.
The lurking presences of the enemy giving it enough suspense to turn to the next page. Not placing too much emphasis on him but yet enough to know he was hiding in the shadows, trying very hard to disrupt and destroy the frailty of this family.
Sienna is more in the back ground in this book but still there, writing her novels playing her part to support her children and those closest to her. The love of Jonathan and Sienna the thread that holds everything together.
The author's writing style flowing and descriptive as she tells the tale of this family and their unwavering faith in the power of an All-seeing, and All-knowing God.

“Marry me today because we have a son waiting.” Bella

Book Excerpt
New Beginning
The women sitting in the pew three rows ahead had glanced over their shoulders several times, whispering and exchanging sly, familiar, yet discreet grins in his direction. Even in church, Chaz Thomas knew what people—women, in particular—were saying about him. Not that he gave a king-sized flying flip one way or the other as long as the conversation gave him the front-and-center attention he craved. In feminine circles, he was hailed as The Perfect Ten. Although he was, in fact, a good-looking brother with strong, chiseled features and a body to match, those attributes weren’t exactly the reasons Chaz had gained the ‘title.’ It was more along the lines of his having fathered at least ten children, aged ten years old and younger, all within a ten-block radius. But, who was keeping count other than those he casually wrote off as trash talking women he’d rejected, full from drinking that bittersweet playa hater’s juice? If it weren’t for Trené, his current baby mama, begging him to attend Friday’s Watch Night Service with her, he wouldn’t be here now subjecting himself to visual inspection—and temptation. Every man knew church was the place to find a woman engaged in inner warfare, surreptitiously longing to unleash the “other,” less-holier side of herself. Trené was aware of his weakness and should’ve known better than to bring him for that reason alone. Chaz was no different in his thoughts on the subject and like most so-called preachers he knew, he was more than willing to accommodate. Unlike a great many of them, however, Chaz was able to... in ways and for durations that only he and God would ever truly know.

Once again my husband did a fine review, here are his
thoughts about the book.

My 4.5 Star Review
Well I was extremely surprised when I start reading the first chapter with the title in mind. We met up with Chaz Thomas in a church service, but with other things occupying his thoughts, I was wondering where the author was going with this story. Then we met Trene and his Girlfriend who prayed for him and when she took the initiative inviting him to the end of year service the story took a new direction more in line with the title. From here things start to accelerate as we met all the different characters in this drama. We meet up with Rowe alias Cootie Chaz buddy from High school. Then we met Viola Trene’s mother who’s husband experience a mid-life crisis in his sixties. This is quite an intriguing story unfolding keeping you interest with each new character. We are introduced to Trene’s partner in her Salon Niki, and her husband Joe and we must not forget about Trene’s children whose lives were affected in the outcome of the plot. As the story unfolds you are drawn into the lives of these people, their highs and lows and understand where they fit into Trene’s life, a story full of wrong decisions for the right reasons and a lot of heartache in a real life drama. Every one has a different view of a relationship with God some were distant and some close with Him. The story let you focus on your own relationship with God and how do you relate to Him in times of trouble or when you get no answers. At times, you feel like crying out with the characters in their situation and then crying with them, feeling their pain. This is undoubtedly an exceptionally compelling story with a real strong message do not judge to quickly and watch your actions you are not unbreakable. The writer succeeded in bringing a believable drama to us. Well done Vivi Monroe Congress a tremendously enjoyable read but keep you tissue box handy.

Interview with Tara Fox Hall and her Promise Me series, and Excerpts

Tara Fox Hall-Author

Tara Fox Hall is an OSHA-certified safety and health inspector at a metal fabrication shop in upstate New York. She received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a double minor in chemistry and biology from Binghamton University. Her writing credits include nonfiction short stories, flash, short and novella-length horror stories, and contemporary and historical paranormal romance. Her horror stories have appeared in Deadman’s Tome, Flashes in the Dark, Ghastly Door, The Halloween Alliance, Black Petals, SNM Horror Magazine, Microhorror, Dark Eclipse, Cemetery Moon, and various anthologies, including the recently published charity works Fear (Vol. 1) and Shifters. She also coauthored the essay “The Allure of the Serial Killer,” published in Serial Killers - Philosophy for Everyone: Being and Killing (Wiley-Blackwell, 2010). She is the author of the paranormal fantasy Lash series and the paranormal romantic drama Promise Me series. Tara divides her free time unequally between writing novels and short stories, chainsawing firewood, caring for stray animals, sewing cat and dog beds for donation to animal shelters, and target practice.

WHY: I’ve loved vampires since I saw Frank Langella in the first “hot vampire” version of Dracula years ago. That love intensified in my later teens with The Lost Boys, and reading Interview with the Vampire, along with anything vampire I could get my hands on. But I wanted more than the evil monster chasing young virgins; more than the sweet, misunderstood handsome fanged stranger that becomes the perfect mate for the woman who captures his heart after so many lone centuries. I wanted a vampire so well-crafted in detail that I could believe he was real. I wanted something different to happen in the story, other than girl becomes vampire, or vampire becomes dust. I wanted passion, tragedy, romance, suspense, action, and the haunting sweetness of poetry and song floating on a soft night breeze. So I penned my own vampires.

My Interview With Her-
What is your name? Do you use a pen name (if so, why?)?
My pen name is the same as my real name: Tara Fox Hall. I thought about using a pen name, but decided I had enough to keep straight already. J I’d likely sign books with the wrong name!
Tell me a bit about yourself:
My bio says it all: Tara Fox Hall’s writing credits include nonfiction, horror, suspense, action-adventure, erotica, and contemporary and historical paranormal romance. She is the author of the paranormal action-adventure Lash series and the vampire romantic suspense Promise Me series. Tara divides her free time unequally between writing novels and short stories, chainsawing firewood, caring for stray animals, sewing cat and dog beds for donation to animal shelters, and target practice.

What type of genre do you write?Mostly I write supernatural-related fiction stories, such as the paranormal fiction series Promise Me and Lash. But as per above, I also have written erotica, suspense, horror, contemporary fiction, and non-fiction.
What genre to you personally read?Thrillers as a rule are my favourite books, the more graphic the better. But I occasionally branch out to YA, historical, romance, graphic novels, action/adventure, westerns and other genres.
Tell me about your latest? My latest book is Taken for His Own, the fourth instalment in my Promise Me Series. It takes up where the third book left off. Sar had done her best to rebuild her life when her fiancé Theo went missing. She’s partnered with her former vampire lover Danial to raise Theo’s daughter Elle (Elle’s natural mother is dead from childbirth complications). She’s also had a child of her own with Danial, Theoron, and is trying to come to terms with her inevitable turning from human to vampire. When she finds out Theo’s alive, she can’t stop herself from journeying west to find him, and confront him about where he’s been for the last year and a half. This is where Taken for His Own begins. After a passionate reunion and a hasty marriage, the two lovebirds are headed back east. But picking up the pieces is far from easy. While Danial is accepting of Theo’s return, Elle prefers her vampire adoptive father over Theo. More than one enemy is waiting in the wings, making repeat attempts on Sar’s life. Add into the mix Devlin, Sar’s old enemy who’s now turned good guy, and a new paramour for Danial and you’ve got a powder keg primed to explode.
What sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story? I’ve always enjoyed reading…a very passionate teacher taught me to read my first words in kindergarten, and I began devouring short books by first grade…and novels for YA by third grade.
Is there a particular book that changed or affected your life in a big way? The Hobbit. I like the message; that it’s not who you were or what you can do that influences what you will do, it’s how willing you are to step outside your own boundaries and push for what you think is right.
Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp? That it’s never too late to take control of your destiny…and that you are the only one that really ever can. You may not be able to control what happens to you, but you can always control how you react to events. And that it’s important to always try to do the right thing…but that isn’t always possible.
What challenges have you faced in your writing career? Getting published. I spent 4 years getting rejection after rejection from every agent under the sun and also some publishers. But the near misses were the worst, to think that I finally had an agent or a publisher and then to have it fall through at the last moment. Those were the crushing blows. The newest thing I worry about are bad reviews J
What has been your best moment as a writer? Getting that first acceptance…though every 5 star review is another perfect moment for me. I love getting validation for the world I created. J
Who is your author idol? Pretty much anyone who is able to write for a living has my respect, as it’s so hard to make a living writing.
Do you see yourself in any of your characters?Bits of me are in all my characters, being my creations.
Do you feel like your dream has come true or is there much more to do? There is MUCH more to do….I won’t be able to rest easy until all of the Promise Me series is out and sitting on my bookshelf in a lovely row J and after that, I’ll probably say the same until the Lash series is done!
What does your workspace look like? A jumbled bed with stickies, sheets of notes, crumpled papers that have been imputed into the computer, the phone so I don’t have to get up, a data stick for backup and now a little pad of paper that says “Tara is WORKING” so my husband knows when I’m going to be irritable if he interrupts!
Have you ever had a day when you just wanted to quit? Of course. Getting my first 2 star review on Amazon made me want to quit. Poor sales in a given quarter makes me want to quit. Having no free time makes me want to quit. But I didn’t survive years of fighting to get my stories out to give up now.
What do you do when you’re not writing?Lately….I sew catbeds for animal shelters, review books, clean, exercise, bake, work my day job, sleep, eat, and do chores like making firewood, spring cleaning, and pet maintenance.
What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer? Keeping your perspective that your every little creation is not going to be perfect…or get critical or popular acclaim. Some stories will be better than others. The key is to always try to make the next one better than the last one was.
Did you have a moment when you realized you were meant to be a writer?Yes. I realized I was good at imagining both sides of a conversation between two characters or more. It’s something that comes naturally and I don’t feel affinity with either character especially, so I can imagine to be both with equal believability. That makes really good dialogue, which is an essential part of any story. The other key part of story is a good plot. When I’m reading what I wrote, I ask myself if I’m interested at every paragraph. If I can’t keep my own interest, how can I expect to keep a reader’s interest? And what a writer wants to produce and what a reader wants to read are not always the same things. To gain—and keep—series readers, you have to give them what they want while keeping enough back to entice them to keep reading subsequent books. I try to do that.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors? Don’t give up until you do what you set out to do.
After this book, what is next? There will be more books in this series. Two more will be out this year—Immortal Confessionsand Her Secret—with more in 2014 and 2015, until the series is done. The next installment in the Lash Series, Revenge, will be out this fall, and hopefully my second anthology of short suspense/horror stories will also publish. There will also be the first Promise Me anthology and a Latham’s Landing anthology this fall. A new Lash short story,Spiritwalker”, will debut in the Shifters charity anthology from Hazardous Press, and I also have a short story called “The Lie” in the upcoming anthology Brief Grislys, both due out in a month or less. I’m also working on a sequel to my transgender short Grow a Pair, and another compilation of BDSM stories for the late summer/fall.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you. But I want to be clear that I don’t expect you to give me money because we…because we’re—”
“Intimate?” he supplied with a leer. “Lovers?”
I blushed, glad my back was to him. “Yes,” I said curtly.
“It’s my feelings for you that make me offer. I understand you’re independent and used to taking care of yourself. But I want you to have an easier time of it than you had trying to go it alone. I want to take care of you. It’s your right, as befitting your station.”
“What station?”
“As my lover.” He nibbled the back of my neck, his hands sliding down my arms. “That is, if you still want to be.”
Did I ever. God, his lips felt good. I could feel little pricks where his fangs brushed against me...
Focus! “What about the shirt?”
Danial paused what he was doing. “What about it?”
“Did you take some of my life force? Did you deliberately try to seduce me with a spell to get me to feed you?”
He didn’t reply. I shifted back from the fire and made to get up, but he pulled me off balance and I went down, falling into his waiting arms. I struggled in vain as he rolled me over on the carpet and straddled me, holding both my arms over my head with one hand, while the other caressed my cheek. I fumed as I looked at him above me, his upper half silhouetted by the fire. His eyes sparkled, his face in shadow.
“Now, Sarelle,” he purred, “why would I need to seduce you to get you to feed me?”
He stretched down against me. I felt my body betray my anger as my breasts hardened and my breaths came faster.
“You gave me your blood when I was a stranger, willingly.” He leaned in closer as if to kiss me, but remained just out of reach. His dark eyes were locked on mine, filled with desire and familiar arrogance. He bent down to kiss my throat. “You gave yourself to me a night later, with no hesitation.”
His lips moved to the side of my throat. He ran a fang down my neck. I writhed, both in desire and a touch of fear.
“That was a dream. I knew it—”
“You knew nothing of the sort,” he said, his breath warm against my neck. He drew back and used his free hand to start unbuttoning my nightshirt.
“Stop,” I said, my breath tearing out of me.
“Stop what?” he said teasingly. “You want me, just like you have from the first moment you saw me. I can feel your body beneath mine, aching for me. Just as I’m aching for you.”
He continued unbuttoning my top.
“Stop screwing around! I need to know if you—”
“It was your fantasy. A predictable one,” he said, his hand on the next to last button. He paused to run that hand between my breasts, up to clasp my throat. “But I was never in control of you. I couldn’t feed from you—not that I didn’t try. You seemed so willing to let me. But I couldn’t draw any energy from you and I awoke hungry, almost ravenous.”
“Terian was right—”
His hand tightened on my throat. “Why are you so determined to be the victim? Nothing happened that you didn’t choose to happen.” He gave me a half smile, his eyes growing darker. He brought his hand back to my nightshirt and undid the last button. He pushed my shirt to each side, baring my breasts and my lower body as he gave me a slow savoring look. That nimble hand slid up to grip my neck loosely. I knew he could feel how fast my heart beat. “That you could resist and take control from me in the dream amazed me.” His voice was full of wonder and affection. “No one has ever been able to do that. Not with me. Not in three hundred and seventy-five years.”

Excerpt:
“Sar, you were here last night? Ivan said you gave him the ring, but I assumed you came in the day, to avoid seeing me. Angelica said nothing,” Danial said emotionally.
He was suddenly before me, embracing me before I could stop him. Theo moved closer to us, but I told him with my eyes to keep still, and he stopped.
“Sar, I’m so sorry for Angelica, for what you heard,” Danial murmured into my ear. “She is no substitute for you. I will tell her to leave tonight, that she and I are done, and you’ll never have to see her again. Please forgive me,” he added regretfully.
“Aren’t you oathed?” I said nastily, trying to push him away. “That was no mere necklace she was wearing yesterday—”
“No, of course not,” Danial said, hugging me more tightly. “I’ve given her no promise. I’m so glad you have come back to me, my love. I missed you so much. I filled our bed with her because I was so lonely for you—”
“You had sex with her because you were lonely for me?” I said sarcastically.
“Sar, I didn’t mean that, I—” Danial was backpedaling fast.
It didn’t matter; it was too late. “Danial, I told you that I needed time months ago. You said you couldn’t wait for me. I came back because I promised you I would, because I wanted to believe that you would wait. But you didn’t. Please let me go.”
I moved back from him, as he reluctantly let go of me. It was on his face now that he was finally getting it.
“I am not here to offer you another chance,” I said tiredly. “I’m here to end what we had, end it completely. Take off the collar. Take it off me and let me go.”
“I will not, Sar,” Danial snarled, his eyes tinged red again. “You are mine. Mine! I want a life with you too much to give you up now, not when you’ve come back to me—”
“Did you hear what I said?” I shouted at him. “It’s over! Do you think you can hold onto me by making me wear it? It’s too late! You’ve lost me, Danial!”
Danial stood up in a quick motion, the redness in his eyes glowing lightly. “Who have I lost you to, Sar? I thought I smelled some other male’s scent on your body, and in your hair. Whose is it?”
“Mine,” Theo growled. “Because she’s mine, Danial, not yours.”

Excerpt:
“I should go,” Danial said reluctantly. “It’s late.”
I stopped him, my hand on his arm. “Please, stay with me a little while.”
“Sar—” he began warily.
“Please, Danial. I have to talk to you. Come with me.” I held out my hand.
He sighed, and took my hand. I led him below to the bedroom that had been his not long ago. Danial sat on the edge of the bed with me.
“She understands us,” I said quietly. “I didn’t want to talk in front of her.”
“What is it, Sar?” he said tiredly.
“You remember the Hallows party a year ago?”
“Of course,” Danial said with longing. “I remember being so nervous, worried you wouldn’t show. I remember how you looked in the dress, dancing with me.” He paused. “Why do you bring it up?”
“Because you must be going to have another one soon, unless you’re skipping this year.”
“Yes, in late November,” Danial said edgily. “I closed the business while looking for Theo, and am going to reopen it next year. I need the last months of this year to finish up loose ends of old business.” He sighed. “And I need to hire someone to replace Theo, if such a thing can be done.”
“I want to be there, Danial,” I said. “If you would permit me to come.”
“I had hoped you would be,” Danial said, kissing me gently on the forehead. “I wanted to invite you, but wasn’t sure you’d want to—”
“I know you will invite Samuel,” I said forcefully. “I want to question him about Theo—”
His eyes tinted red immediately. “Sar, that is not what I had in mind. I have already talked to him, and he said he did nothing.”
“I don't believe him, Danial. You weren’t there when he and Theo had words.”
“That doesn’t matter,” he retorted. “He is a Ruler. You cannot question him as if he were a mere human.”
“I certainly can—”
“Sar, I forbid it,” Danial said arrogantly, grabbing hold of me. “And that is the end of it.”
“Who are you to forbid me anything?” I said furiously.
“I’m a man that loves you,” he said furiously back, and kissed me hard, pulling the length of his body against mine as we fell backwards onto the bed.
I struggled, but he kissed me more thoroughly, his lips and body cool against mine. I shuddered in his arms, the feeling of being held and desired making me weak with relief and happiness.
Danial moved, rolling me from my side unto my back, his kisses intensifying. He shifted suddenly, pressing down with his hips. I felt his erection pressing firmly to my belly, and I shuddered, my mouth opening to let out a gasp. He saw the opportunity and took it, sliding his tongue into my mouth to taste me. I trembled, and then kissed him back for all I was worth.
Danial broke the kiss, his black eyes staring at me beneath him as he pulled off his shirt. I arched my back, pulling my sweater off over my head. All I’d needed to do was kiss him, and I wanted him so badly I could taste it.

“What about what you did to me?” I whispered, gazing at him and biting my lip.
“That wasn’t a whim,” Devlin said, dropping his eyes. “That was my bad judgment. Sadly, it wasn’t the worst mistake I’ve made in my life.”
“What was?”
Devlin didn’t answer. I reached out and took his cool hand in mine.
“When you lead others you must do whatever you have to in order to save your people,” he said with a sigh. “Compromising values should matter less than saving lives.”
“I agree with you,” I said. “If you rule others, you have a responsibility to them above the responsibility to yourself. But even then, I think your family should come first.”
“They should,” Devlin said in a cracked voice. He swallowed hard. “But the past can’t be undone.”
I squeezed his hand. “What happened to Danial wasn’t your fault.”
“Yes, it was,” he said softly.
“How is it your fault?” I said curiously, easing closer to him.
“Because I should have known what the thing was when it attacked. I didn’t know anything back then, except strategy and tactics. I was too concerned about rising through the ranks as fast as possible, so I could leave my family behind and become someone important.”
“What did you want to be?”
“A commander of men, either soldiers or police.”
I was surprised that Devlin would want to uphold the law or spend his life guarding others. Yet it made sense. When he’d taken me from my house years ago, he’d insisted on taking me to Danial, because I wore the choker. He was here putting himself in danger now to keep me safe.
“I knew something had attacked a few people on that road in that last month,” he continued. “I knew that there was a chance we might be attacked transporting the prisoner. But the road was the quickest way to our destination. I’d been assured that if I made the journey in good time, I’d get the promotion I wanted, and Danial would get my old position.”
“You aren’t at fault for what you did. It wasn’t for an evil reason.”
“Yes, I am,” he said despondently. “It was my greed and pride that doomed us.”
Carefully, I reached for Devlin and put my arms around him. He tensed at my touch, then relaxed.
“You did the best you could. You aren’t damned.”
“Yes, I am. You have no idea what I’ve done.”
I shifted uneasily.
“And I wouldn’t want you to,” Devlin added, his arms snaking around me loosely. “My ends have always justified the means, no matter what they were. I’ve done great evil in the hope of averting worse evil. Sometimes it worked and sometimes not. Still, it’s likely that given the chance to do my life over, I’d do the same things, make the same choices. I’d find myself here, at this same point in time, a fallen king.”
“In case you’re wondering,” I said deliberately. “I’m waiting for you to add into your speech somewhere that you regret everything you did to me while you were king…um, ruler.”
“I regret hurting you,” Devlin said quickly. “Yet I don’t regret coming for you that night or taking you to Danial.” He looked up at me. “You might not have gone back to Danial after Theo went missing, if I hadn’t. Theoron might not be here. I can’t regret any action of mine that led to him being born.”
I didn’t reply, considering his words.
Devlin laid his head against my chest, and his arms tightened on me slightly. We lay there like that for a few moments, not speaking, then I slipped into sleep.
I woke sometime later when Devlin stirred. According to the bedside clock, it was almost dusk.
“I have only one regret,” Devlin said finally, propping himself up on his elbow, his expression intent.
“What’s that?” I said, covering my yawn with my hand.
“That it wasn’t me you found in your quarry that night,” Devlin said, kissing the back of my hand with cool lips. His golden eyes locked on mine, transfixing me, as he drew my hand away from my face.
He was going to kiss me. My lips parted as my breath caught in my throat.

“I always wanted you.  God only knows how much… I’d actually sit here and talk to you  out loud for ours,  for years…,”                                                               Jonathan

Excerpt

Before she even opened her eyes, in the familiar soft silk comforter around her skin, Sienna sensed it was late morning by the slant of the sun across her face. She guessed it to be about 10:00 a.m. and noted that the household seemed quiet and unmoving. She stretched her arms overhead and rolled into the light, smiling at the memory of the previous night.
When she finally did open her eyes, they rested on Jonathan’s attentive presence. He was seated on the chaise lounge where he had spent the night and, apparently, he’d been watching her sleep for some time. His hands were folded peacefully, his forearms resting on his tights, and his muscled shoulders were rounded – it was a thoughtful pose indicative of prayer and his forward gaze made it easy to deduce that she had been the primary focus. He was so intensely exquisite to her in the morning light, against that striking, red velvet backdrop, in his white tee with no sleeves, in his favorite blue jeans, in his bare feet. The colorless and angelic luminescence breathing just over his shoulder cast a fine glaze across the outline of his skin; it highlighted his black hair, his jaw line, and graced the tips of his boyish lashes like a silver lining – but his was a cloudless sky, one of purity and of simplicity and one of straight line. His eyes were soft and bright and unidentifiable in their color – they were not gray, they were not green, nor were they blue, rather they were layered with a mixture of all three. They seemed to change with the tide. Something similar to the sea, she finally decided, where his fathers comes from.
He got up without saying anything and walked straight to her with serious intent. He climbed onto her bed and kissed her, gently touching her skin. He’d been entertaining things in his mind prior to her awakening and was not the least bit concerned with hiding the fact. It was after all natural in this paradise.
“Good morning Butterfly” he said quietly as he looked into her eyes. His expression remained rather solemn. Between his fingers, he felt the softness of a loop of her hair, he thoughtfully got lost in the richness of color and how sharply it contrasted with her skin.

“I’ve been thinking,” he said “I apologize for my complete lack of manners and my inadequate  self-control. But…I’m thinking we need to get married…”
“Are you somebody’s mother?”
“If not, would you be mine?”                             Bella
Finally, after the long wait I could read this book that laid on my shelf for
a time. First reading the ones I was committed to reading for other authors.
The joy when I received the actual book was thrilling, and I told everyone
who wanted to listen. The anticipation was worth it. This book was simply
a joy to read. I want to thank the author Dawn Dyson that had enough
faith in me to send me the books for an honest review. Since this is the
first in the series, I received all 3 books, what an honor!, 2 more posts
will follow shortly.
With all that said here is my thoughts on this Contemporary Inspirational
Romance.

My 5 Star Review

This is not only about two people meeting, falling in love and live
happily ever after. This is a terrific tool to use when people wants to
understand the terms Spiritual Warfare and Intercession better in a
fictional story. There is no glamour in this gifts as with many others.
This is a lonely road where you will not receive any acceptance from
anyone, especially the church. The world would put you in a psychiatric
ward thinking you are mad, filling you with all kinds of medicine and
at the end cast you aside. One of the points touched by Sienna the main
character in the book.
The plot was well examined and put to paper with a clear understanding
about the subject and what it means for the one who bares this gift.
The characters strong and best suited to bring the point across. With a
deeper understanding from the scripture in Isaiah 1:17. Sienna abused
all her life but yet strong and determined helped other girls to stand up
from their own abusive state and become the very person God has
intended all along. I did appreciate the fact that the author did not put
too much emphasis on the abuse, but rather the road to healing because
of obedience and being with like-minded people.
I loved the character Jonathan, a man that went through his own pain
and abuse before he settled down. Writing songs from the heart of God
revealing God's love, faith, patience and hope to a thirsty world.
With his daughter still in training, he was the perfect father figure to
be used in the story.
Wisdom, patience and love were the core of his character, beautifully
portrait in this ex-junkie, living the hard life because of fame, rebelling
against his heritage, getting lost in a world of fame and money. But yet
all of those traits would never have materialized if not for that path.
You see his devotion not only to his daughter but even to Cheney,
desperately trying to save her from her self.
Bella a sweet 5 year old with a gift no one understand until Sienna appear
in their lives, developing the gift and allowing God to have his way in
her life. Teaching her father and family how to understand her and walk
with her during this time when she is an open vessel, speaking the heart
of God directly into the situations they faced.
The author's ability to create with words were descriptive and flowing
so that you could experience what she was seeing writing this book. The
ebb and flow of each scene as it opens to the next appreciating the
character and place as the plot unfolds. Creating a world where God
reigns and people obey his statues, word and commands, and you see
the results of that, coming together as a wonderful and entertaining
book to read.
The topics are easy to understand, from the power of the tongue to
paternity, healing, obedience, grace, prayer and knowledge of
God's character emphasis by the scenes as they develop creating a
wonderful read.

EXCERPT #1“Veronique? They have names?”
“Yes, but don’t ever use their names. Ever. When a human uses their name, it makes them more powerful. It’s almost like worship to them, and worship gives them strength. An Endurer has protection against this, but you don’t. Never speak it, even if you know it.”
“Okay,” she replied. “You won’t have to tell me twice. How do you know her name?”
It was a question he had no intention of answering, at least not now. He wanted to bed her, badly. The last thing he needed to mention was women had died because of him. Somehow, he didn’t think that would help his cause. “It doesn’t matter. What does matter is freeing you from the curse.”
She remembered her parents and gasped, eyes widening with horror. “My mom and dad are coming for an overnight visit Saturday. What am I going to do?”
“Try to cancel. If you can’t, we’ll work around it. Who knows? Maybe we will have the curse broke by then.” He doubted it, but kept his doubts to himself. Where was Arch when you really needed him?
“I’m going to call a priest in to bless the house. Maybe he can shed some light on the situation,” Vincent continued gruffly. He was going to keep a better eye on her from here on out, no more midnight raids on her refrigerator unless she was with him.
His stomach rumbled at the thought of her cooking. The woman could cook like nobody’s business, and the leftovers were heavenly. His metabolism was extremely high due to the constant renewing of his body, and it gave him an extraordinarily high appetite.
The sound drew her attention, and she stared at him as he blushed in embarrassment. “Nice to know you really are human,” she said with a small smile. “At least now I know what’s been happening to my leftovers.”
“Sorry,” he replied sheepishly. “They were delicious.”
She felt strangely pleased that he liked her cooking. It was flattering. She was sure in his lifetime he’d had all types of food, but he enjoyed hers. “Well then, I guess I’ll be going to the store more often,” she said smiling, feeling the blush spreading across her cheeks.
Her arms began to ache, and she looked down to see what was wrong. In the light, she could see the dark purple bruises marring the paleness of her skin. They seemed to worsen by the minute.
He saw them too and growled. Moving quickly, he knelt in the floor in front of her, noting each and every purple spot. “The demon hurt you,” he said softly, but she could hear the anger in his tone. “For that, he will painfully die.”
Suddenly his mood changed. Slowly, he raised his head, his heated eyes meeting her dazed ones. He held her gaze for a moment before leaning forward and kissing each bruise.
He took his slow, sweet time, his firm lips highly erotic against her skin. She groaned softly at the tantalizing sweep of his tongue against each one. Her nipples beaded underneath the thin material of her nightgown in reaction.
His eyes glittered when he saw the visible response of her body to his mouth. The very air was charged with an erotic energy that singed both of them with its intensity. Her body grew hot with a burning need that demanded to be fulfilled.
He could sense it with his supernatural senses. He gave her a smile full of sexual promise. “I want to make love with you, Scarlett. Will you allow me?”

Rising Sun, Falling Star

Different eyes and skin Mock me from the mirror’s light Enemy am I. Dec 7, 1941 Today my life changed forever . . . I am no longer considered American, but by shear heritage I am now the hated enemy . . . The lives of Kenji and Aiko Onishi and their American-born children are about to unravel when the United States is thrust into war with Japan. Confronted by insurmountable prejudice and fear, the family is ripped from their California home without just cause by the American government and sent to an assembly center “for their own protection.” Forced to live in deplorable circumstances, every aspect of their lives regulated and controlled, the Onishi’s freedoms are stripped from their grasp as they struggle to survive behind barbed wire. It isn’t long before the mind-numbing confinement and feelings of helplessness begin to pit the family against one another. When sent to a relocation camp in the center of the Utah desert, they’re beset by ever increasing emotional and physical challenges, and Aiko is faced with her greatest yet: to mend the broken spirits of her family, or risk losing them forever. Based on true and tragic events that transpired during World War II, Rising Sun, Falling Star is a heart-rending story of one family’s struggle to survive uncalculated loss and emotional destruction.

Today the Spotlight is on A Touch of Honor Excerpt and Give away

A Touch of Honor (The Honor Trilogy #1)by J.P. GriderYA Paranormal RomancePublisher: Fated Hearts PublishingRelease Date: March 13, 2013Heat Level: SweetLength: 224 pages
Available at:Amazon
Description:Honor hurts…all the time. The doctors say she’s fine – it’s all in her head. But Honor feels pain. What she doesn’t know is…it’s not her pain– it’s everyone else’s.
Seventeen year-old Honor Stevens is not an ordinary teenager. Sure, she looks like one on the outside…but on the inside, there’s a whole world of pain going on. Honor is an empath. That means she can feel other people’s pain – like that of the girl who is about to be raped in the woods, or the girl who is dying of cancer, or her mom…who is suffering a heart attack. What she doesn’t know is what Ethan Sutherland comes to town to tell her – she can save these people. But at what cost? For every life Honor saves, she knocks years off her own.
When Ethan comes looking for her, he isn’t counting on falling in love. Now that he has, he wishes he hadn’t told her about her abilities. Though he tries his best to talk her out of saving every soul, Ethan loses the battle – Honor’s too nice for her own good.
Then there’s the matter of Ethan’s estranged, morally corrupt half-brother, Storm – he loves Honor too. And because Honor is intrinsically empathic, she’s aware of Storm’s softer side and begins falling for him as well.
When the two brothers are forced to work together against a group of evil empaths who are after Honor, they need to put their differences aside and focus on saving the one girl they both love.
A Touch of Honor is a paranormal love story of a different kind. In a world gone mad with vampires and werewolves, A Touch of Honor tugs at the heartstrings with a girl out to heal the world…one person at a time.

Excerpt:He takes hold of my hand, and we proceed to the wooden playground area off to the side of the library. A maze of playthings built from wood will serve as the background to, I suspect, a life-changing turn of events.
We ascend the wooden…plank, I think to myself, though it is really a wooden ramp. But “walkin’ the plank”seems so much more appropriate at this time. Since, unfortunately, I intuit a death sentence on the horizon.
“Honor,” Ethan starts, sitting down on one of the built-in benches. Of course, I follow. “I’ve been having this conversation with myself all afternoon,” he drops his head back against the seat’s wall and shuts his eyes. “Yet I stilldon’t know where to begin.” He opens his eyes and raises his head. Looking straight at me, right into my own violet eyes, he blurts out, “You’re adopted. You do know that, right?”
Now if I had not been aware of this fact already, I’d be quite traumatized right now. In fact, I’d have become just a bit unhinged at the moment. Come to think of it, I am anyway. “How do you know this?” I ask, astounded that he is aware of something so personal.
“Oh my God, Honor,” he puts his hand on my knee, “you didn’t know?” he asks, shocked.
Pulling my knee out from under his hand, I slide as far over as possible. But when I turn to face him, I swear…there’s a tear falling down his cheek. This tempers my anger…a little. “Yes,” I answer, hearing the sardonic tone in my voice. “I knew. I know…”
Ethan moves toward me.
“But…how do you know? We’ve kept this a secret. No one knows.” Tingly chills run up my spine. I am suddenly afraid.
“Your mother’s name was Hanna. Your father…Daniel. Your last name was Robinson.” Ethan ceases to talk, probably surmising, correctly, my need to absorb this new piece of intelligence about my own life.
Too dumb-stricken for words, I remain silently in awe.
“They gave you up for adoption…because they were dying,” Ethan resumes. “They were only in their early twenties.”
Hearing this makes me sadder than I’ve ever been. My body goes slack, and my eyes begin to burn. My mom, the one who raised me, had told me that my mother, the biological one, was dying when she gave me up. But I’d no idea she was so young. And no one had ever mentioned a father. There is a hollowness in my chest that I’d never known. A vacant home that had been hidden away, not knowing my true identity, now manifests into a cavernous canyon, because now I do know.
“You are from a special breed of people, Honor.” Unaware of the current turmoil taking place in my mind…and my heart, Ethan keeps on talking. “The violet eyes?” He pauses for a reaction from me, which he gets in the form of a blank stare. “They’re characteristic of your true nature.”
There is just no voice in me. All my thoughts are actually knotted into one mess of a ball in the pit of my stomach, where I can feel it trying to find its way up my esophagus. I want to vomit.
“Honor?” Ethan probes, as if I’m not listening. “All that pain you feel…day in and day out,” he pauses and is intent on looking me directly in the eyes, “and healing your mother. You know…you did do that. You know that, don’t you?”
I just shake my head slowly, hand over my mouth.
“Honor Nicole Robinson Stevens.”
My head moves back and forth quickly now, unable to grasp this. My hand is still covering my mouth.
Ethan will not stop.
“You feel people’s pain…Honor.” Ethan shakes his head now. “It is…a horrible existence, Honor, I’m not going to lie.” Tears roll down his face again. “But you are special.”
He smiles through his tears.
“You…” His head drops in a slight bow. “You can heal people…you are an empath, Honor. You take on the hurt and the pain of others…and you can take them away.”

About the Author:

Tess Thompson is a mother before all else, and a writer after that. After honing her craft in theater with a prize-winning play titled My Lady’s Hand, her heart was called to a different storytelling medium: the great American novel.
She is currently working on an ambitious historical fiction trilogy inspired by a story from her great-grandmother. The first of these, Riversong (Booktrope Editions), went on to become #1 on Barnes and Noble’s Nook Book chart in October 2011. Two years after its release, readership of Riversong continued to grow, spending weeks in the top 100 Kindle bestsellers. The second installment, Riverbend, is scheduled for release in May of 2013.
In March of 2012, Tess was honored to contribute to Write For the Fight, Booktrope’s collection of essays reflecting on life’s past, present and future. All proceeds from the sales of this collection benefit breast cancer research.
Like her main character in Riversong, Tess hails from a small town in southern Oregon. She currently lives in a suburb of Seattle, Washington with her two young daughters – a card shark working her way toward the tables of Atlantic City, the other a princess in training – and their wild but lovable dog, Patches.

Riverbend (River Valley Collection #2)by Tess Thompson

EXCERPT 1 (From the Prologue)2003
That night, just shy of midnight, she opened the window wide enough for someone to jump through. Dressed in lacy lingerie, she painted her mouth with lipstick. She sprinkled the pillows with drops of the men’s cologne. Then she climbed into bed, clutching the telephone in one hand and the meth in the other. And she waited.
Marco came home twenty minutes later. Annie knew he was the plus ten kind of drunk by the way he slammed into the hall table and the subsequent heavy and unsteady footsteps down the hallway as he made his way to the bedroom. She’d invented a scale to gauge Marco’s drunkenness. Five was the afternoon kind of drunk while watching football with some of his buddies. He was harmless then, almost playful. Anything above an eight meant that he would have his fists on her before he passed out on the bed.
His footsteps were closer to the bedroom now. She dialed 911, speaking quietly into the phone. “I’m being beaten by my boyfriend. Send police to 8011 Alvarado right away.” She hung up, bracing for the worst, hoping they would arrive in time.
Then he was in the doorway, his red eyes scanning the room, taking in the open window, her lingerie, and her painted mouth.
He yanked her from the bed, tearing the front of her nightgown apart so that she was in only her panties. “You little slut. You had someone here? In my bed?” He went to the window, shouting into the night like a crazed animal, “Where is the son of a bitch?” Slamming the window shut and locking it, he turned towards her, utter rage displayed on his now almost purple face. A vein popped from his forehead; his pulse beat wildly at his neck. Then, he lurched towards her, yanking her up by her mane of thick curls. She closed her eyes, knowing the pain was coming, and slipped the meth into his pants pocket.
Please, God, don’t let him hurt the baby.
He slammed her against the wall, smashing his fist into her face. She felt blood from her nose mixing with tears she could not control. But she did not cry out. She did not beg him to stop as she sometimes did. This time they were coming. She must hold on until they got here, until they could see what he did to her.
He shook her now so that her teeth rattled inside her head. “What? You’re not bothering to lie to me tonight?” He punched her face again, slamming her head against the wall. He tossed her on the floor and straddled her before slamming her head into the floor over and over. Then he was up, leering over her. He kicked her in the side, hard, with the toe of his boot. She cried out from the pain. She moved her hands over her stomach. She couldn’t get a breath. Had he cracked her rib? Please, God, protect the baby.
He was on top of her again, slamming her head on the rug.
Next, she heard a loud thump. Was it the sound of the door being kicked in? Yes. That was it. There were footsteps, too. Running feet. They were here. Finally someone would see what he did. Her sight was blurry now, her eyes swollen almost shut and stinging from the blood that dripped into them. But she no longer felt the pain. It was as if she were out of her body now and merely a spectator. And then suddenly Marco was no longer on top of her.
Through her dim vision, she saw there were two of them, dressed in blue uniforms and carrying long black sticks. One of them smacked Marco on the head with his club. Marco cried out and held his head in his hands.
“Check his pants pocket,” she managed to croak out.
One pulled Marco’s arms behind his back while the other searched his pockets. “Meth,” he said, opening the package.
One cop handcuffed him as the other one read him his rights, just like in the movies.
“You piece of shit,” said the shorter cop to Marco. “You’re going away for this and the drugs.”
“The lying whore had a man in here,” said Marco. “Everyone knows I have every right to kill the bitch.” He turned to look at her. “You’ll pay for this if it’s the last thing I ever do.”
She turned her face away as the cops shoved him towards the door.
An EMT was above her now. He was tan and had blond hair bleached almost white from sun. A surfer, maybe. The pain had found its way back to her consciousness. She moaned as he examined her.
“Bastard broke her arm. And a rib too, I think.”
“I didn’t have a man here,” she whispered.
“It’s all right. Don’t talk.”
“I’m pregnant.”
His eyebrows went up and down. There was alarm in his eyes but his voice was soothing. “Okay, kiddo. You’re gonna be fine. The ambulance will take you to the hospital.”
“I don’t have any insurance.” Her throat was so dry. If only she had some water.
“Don’t worry about it. We’ll figure that out later.”
“Am I dying?”
“No, you’re gonna be fine, kid. Just hang in there.” He was gently probing her stomach, his fingers pushing into the extra flesh.
“I’m sorry I’m so fat,” she said, tears leaking out the corners of her eyes.
“Shush now. Just stay still. It’ll be all right soon.”
“Hold my hand until they come?”
“Of course,” he said, taking it between both of his. Her hands were the only part of her body that didn’t hurt.
“Jesus, what an animal,” she heard him say as she felt herself drifting away.
