Book Barrage for Full Throttle, Excerpt and Giveaway

Description:Fast cars and a smokin' hot passion...
Rex intends to own and drive his own car, but that will cost him millions up front. Last season was a disaster, thanks to a nasty break up, but it taught him a lesson and helped sharpen his focus on what he needed to do: Win every race. And stay away from pretty girls. The last thing he needed was to learn that his new head mechanic, Jimmy James, was the gorgeous redhead pin-up walking around his pit like it was some kind of dance floor.
Gail "Jimmy" James is the first female NASCAR mechanic. As if competing in a man's world isn't tough enough, her bombshell figure bellies her genius IQ, and the pit is no place for either. Nothing Jimmy knew about Rex Henderson the driver prepared her for Rex Henderson the man. But Jimmy has no time to dwell on her feelings as strange mechanical problems curse Rex's car. Whether sabotage or her own mistakes, Jimmy must stay one step ahead of trouble if she's going to keep her job, and keep her driver alive...

Excerpt #7
Damn, Rex thought, it happened again. First he’d flirted with his head mechanic in the garage with a reporter hiding nearby, then he’d practically mauled her while another one watched. This was exactly what he feared would happen. Only he hadn’t figured himself for the idiot who would get caught with his pants down like Brent had.Still no sign of Gail. Where was she? Emerson had always been there with the crew for first day practice laps. What was with the chick anyway? She came off as a NASCAR fanatic, then wimped out when they really needed her.His gaze snagged on a tall blonde sitting on the pit wall beside Dillon’s car. Crystal. She wore a white halter, low-riding jeans, and Dillon’s mirrored sunglasses. Rex tried not to look at her as he drove by. Her hand under her blonde bangs shielded her face from the sun. Was she looking at him or the damned rabbit on the hood? The white stripe at the end of pit row passed under his car. Rex accelerated onto the track between turn one and two. The car rocked violently as he drove from the flat warning strip onto the banked pavement of the curve. He fought the stiff steering while gathering the speed needed for centrifugal force to balance the car on the steep bank. Then the pavement flattened into the backstretch and he shifted into fourth.“One-fifty,” Ricky said over the radio.“The car feels loose,” Rex came back as he settled against the wall, still accelerating.“The tires will warm up,” Duff’s voice crackled. “Lay off for a lap or two.”Hell no, he wasn’t going to let up. He intended to open the sucker up.Rex let off the gas to cruise at one-thirty. He wove left then right. The tires squealed and the sound diminished as the rubber heated up by turn three. Slight jerks from his rear end rocked the car, sending it high out of turn three into turn four.“You’re high,” Ricky said. “Settle in lower.”“There’s a vibration in the right rear,” Rex said. “Feels like I have a tire going down already.”“I don’t see anything,” Ricky came back.Rex glanced toward the spotter’s station at the top of the grandstands. Ricky didn’t have a clear view of the right rear, but his line of sight would be right down the side of the car where he could see any list front to back.“Could be a flat spot on the tread.” Rex pulled out of turn four onto the front stretch.“Tire temperature’s still low,” Duff said. “Take another lap and see if it smoothes out.”“Roger.” Rex accelerated up against the wall.“One-fifty. One-sixty,” Ricky called out.The speed radar display Ricky consulted matched what Rex felt in the car’s vibration and the revs of the engine. Around the gentle dogleg in the front stretch and toward the start/finish line, Rex pushed his car faster in nervous anticipation of a rear end tire failure.“One-seventy,” Ricky reported.“How’s it feel, Rex?” Duff asked.Rex didn’t answer until he had ducked into turn one doing one seventy-five. “Some vibration still, but not as loose.”“Be careful, buddy,” Duff said. “That’s why they call these practice laps.”No one finished in the top ten by milking a lap, even practice laps. A quick mental calculation indicated he only had time for five or six practice laps this session. If something was wrong with the car, he had to find out now. A pit to change tires would eat up one of those laps. If Gail screwed up some adjustment, he might not get back on the track for another hour, then only if Duff could barter time with one of the other drivers. Dammit. Where the hell was she? The rear end slid up the track on the exit of turn two and Rex eased off the gas enough to let the car straighten out on its own.“Too loose?” Duff asked.“I guess the tires have to heat up more,” Rex replied. He ran up next to the back wall, holding the accelerator to the floorboards. The engine revs climbed.“One-eighty,” Ricky said.Exhilaration shot through Rex. The car felt great, despite the slight shimmy. No big deal. At one-eighty, he’d never had a new car that didn’t shake a little, especially at Daytona. Maybe it was the mystique of the track, or new season butterflies.Turn three approached. Rex steered into the groove without letting off the gas. The shimmy worsened, but he kept power to the rear wheels and steered a little high on the turn. He swung high out of turn three and steered hard into four.“Easy, you’re a little high,” Ricky warned. But Rex already knew he had over-committed into turn four. The G forces climbed as he rounded the apex of the turn. The vibration quickened. He let off the gas, then realized his mistake. The car jerked to the right and drifted sideways. The Chevy slid up the banked curve in a four-wheel drift toward the wall. Tires squealed. He fought the loss of control by steering into the drift. The tires gripped. He steered left to get into the groove for the straightaway, but it was too late. His trajectory would take him into the wall. He gripped the wheel as the pavement rushed under the car, tires on the verge of breaking lose, the wall looming closer, closer. Rex braced for impact as a bone-jarring thud crumpled the front fender and hood. Sparksflared off metal and wall. Engine coolant shot from under the hood and clouded the windshield. The car pivoted, slamming the rear quarter panel into the wall.Rex tried to steer away from the wall, but the car continued to hammer and scrape the barrier. He yanked harder on the wheel. The car came off the wall for an instant, then the steering wheel shuddered and went limp.

My Review of The Scholar by May Nicole Abbey

by May Nicole Abbey
A leap through time. A choice to make. A destiny to change.
Dismissed by her professors, ridiculed by her classmates, Serena Metcalfe is determined to prove the existence of the Samu Aqaru, the powerful stone of the ancient pharaohs – even if it means travelling through time. But her study of Egyptology did not prepare her for the dangers and passions of the real Egypt of 2361 BC. Crocodile attacks, kidnapping, betrayal, murder…and a pharaoh who believes she is a goddess and wants her as his queen. But Serena isn’t about to give herself to a king – not when finding the precious Stone could mean saving the man she loves.
Irresistible playboy Shepseskaf, fated for an early death, and his loyal yet ruthless cousin Pepisenkaura were once the closest of friends, but the right to the throne of Egypt and their rivalry for Serena threaten to transform them into bitter and eternal enemies. Only Serena knows the tragic destiny that awaits, and only Serena can rewrite history…by following her heart.

Shawnette has a wide range of life experiences to draw from as she writes. From gymnastics, wrestling, construction and farming, she now lives in Arizona with her husband and three kids, and experiences new adventures through her stories.

Caroline and Shawnette, though hundreds of miles away, collaborate daily on their stories over the phone in the wee hours of the morning.

I received this book from the authors for an honest review.
The sisters have done it again. Bringing us an unique, gripping and exciting tale from Ancient Egypt. Their lively descriptions of the rich history of Egypt coming alive through a young woman's life who "flew" back in time and share her experiences. The plot line interesting, mesmerizing as you venture with her to the Great Nile, seeing the Pharaoh for the first time, Giza in all its splendor. Images only captured in pictures and books became real, and alive and I could almost smell the Cassia oil from the vibrant, playboy Shepseskaf, seducer and protector, and best friend. A scent perfect for him. Strong, woody but yet sweet, getting under your skin, as he did with her.
Serena Metcalfe was head-strong, determined and willing to lay everything aside to get her doctorate and the recognition she deserved. But when she met this handsome prince, she was confronted with more than just her loyalties. Faith, hope and trust became the center of the story line as interesting twists gave you a better look at life and the believes of these ancient people.
To them she was Isis personified, with her light skin and fiery hair she stood out. Her love, tenderness and care always in the forefront as she fights the odds, seemingly indestructible. She is confronted with her own vainness, her scars a constant reminder with beauty was all around her and Shep accepted her as she was. A beautiful love story grew in the midst of distrust, abduction and murder always seeking the elusive Stone, Samu Aqaru. Will she find it?
Well get the book and find out, my lips are sealed. **smile**
A wonderful journey with all its ups and downs that keep you glued to the pages of the book as you learn more about the people, the country and the man.
The many other characters were believable and strong, each playing their part in the book to make it memorable. Each creating a better understanding of the times and how vastly we differ from them. The harshness of the desert and the ugliness of betrayal not concealed to think that this was make-believe. Filled with action and adventure with a good dash of romance The Scholar was an enjoyable read.
Thanks to Shawnette and Caroline for the opportunity to read another of their books.

Excerpt 1:
Scottish Highlands, 1338
Lady Riana Ellis dribbled three drops of poison from the wooden phial into the goblet sitting on the nightstand beside the wine she would drink.
Fill the goblet to the brim, and death would be quick.
But the fires of Hell that followed would last forever.
Even hellfire paled in comparison to the nightmare that was Arundel.
If not for her younger sister living as ward of the Duke and Duchess of Arundel, Riana would have ingested poison long ago…if not for the fact the duke and duchess now had food tasters, she would have slipped poison into their food long ago. Instead, she must now feed the lethal fluid to Sir Neas Dunbar in order to save Siusan from the duke’s cock.
Riana fitted the top back onto the phial. She shivered despite the fire that crackled in the hearth to her left, and rubbed gooseflesh from her naked arms. The duchess’ order to murder the knight came with the explicit instruction, “Fuck him hard first.”
Anger clenched Riana’s stomach. The duchess thrived on the fact this would be the man's last night amongst the living, and had issued the edict because she wanted to watch. Her morbid fascination would be Riana’s advantage—if she pulled off what was to be the performance of her life.
The very thought of watching a man fuck the woman who was about to murder him would have the duchess panting like a bitch in heat. Already, she would be sitting behind the large painting that hung over the bed…waiting. Riana had purposely kept her naked breasts from the duchess’ view, knowing just the sight of her rounded buttocks in the soft firelight would hold the older woman spellbound in anticipation of that first glimpse of rosy areola and dark curls.
In the hours the duchess watched Riana from behind the painting, Siusan and their surrogate father Glen would flee Arundel for a village in the south of France. By the time Sir Dunbar sucked Riana’s nipples into painful hardness, the duchess would be unable to tear herself from watching them. When he finally stuffed his fingers between her folds and rammed his cock into her arse, Siusan and Glen would be riding hard. The knight was sure to do all this and more, for the duchess would instruct him as she did every man Riana serviced: “Ride her hard. She is made for it.”
Siusan and Glen’s final security would be if the duchess had brought one of her favorites from among the servants to suck her cunt while she watched. Once she had satiated her perverted desires, and Riana fed the knight the poisoned wine, the duchess would retire to her chambers and await news that Sir Dunbar had been found dead in his bed.
The Sheriff would be called from his chambers, where the duchess had installed him the night before, and he would conclude the knight had died of a heart attack while rutting between Riana’s legs—even if the duchess had to throw coin his way to ensure the verdict. If Riana administered the poison first, Sir Dunbar’s heart would slow while he pumped into her, until, at last, the veneer of death would be complete. That would be a sight that could keep the duchess distracted indefinitely. But Riana had been unable to overcome her revulsion at thought of the knight’s cock going limp inside her as his dead weight pinned her to the mattress.
Sir Dunbar had left a trail of English blood across the Scottish Highlands. The duchess was a fool to think anyone would believe the heart that beat within his massive chest could give way due to even the most rigorous thrusts of his cock into a woman’s cunt. Yet, if the duchess had her way, he would fuck Riana, she would hang for his murder, and Siusan would take her place as Arundel’s whore.
A tremor rippled through Riana. She had served as a whore too long to feel guilt over spreading her legs. But murder? And to what end? The fact she had killed a man at the duchess’ command wouldn’t obligate the older woman to safeguard Siusan from the duke.
Siusan had grown into a young woman whose pale beauty surpassed Riana’s darker hair and complexion. The duke’s increasing demands to have Siusan’s maidenhead tightened the duchess’ stranglehold over Riana. But Riana had her own leverage. The moment the duchess could no longer protect Siusan, Riana would forego the poison and drive a dagger into her heart. Then hang for the crime without remorse. Riana suppressed a bitter laugh. Apparently murder was as easy to grow accustomed to as was fornication.
But until Siusan was safely away, Riana couldn’t forget that the duchess’ cruelty was matched only by the duke’s depravity. She choked back a recollection of the day he had stripped away her memory of how sweet love could be and replaced it with understanding of how a man’s cock could foul a woman’s every orifice. Riana bit back tears. Curse the war that had taken her father and husband. Even God had deserted them. But she wouldn’t wait for God or anyone else to save them. Tonight, she would end this madness. Riana closed her eyes and released a slow breath. Fail, and the duke wasn’t the only threat they faced.
The duke and duchess secretly supported Edward Balliol, Scotland’s puppet king of Edward III, King of England and self-appointed Lord Parliament of Scotland. Most of Scotland had been retaken by Sir Andrew Murray, leader of Robert the Bruce’s faction. But King Edward IIIintended to wrest Scotland from him at all costs.
Two months ago, one of the Disinherited—the Anglo Saxon Scots led by Balliol—had secretly visited Arundel, and Riana learnt the duke and duchess had plotted with him to finance Balliol. She’d passed the information to Sir Fostar, who had fought alongside her father and husband.
Sir Fostar warned Riana that Scotland would bring a sentence of forfeiture against the duke, and seize his wealth and land. If Riana and Siusan weren’t far away, they would become casualties in the political aftermath. They couldn’t return to their mother—her new husband would shun women branded as followers of the English king. Riana envisioned her and Siusan wandering the streets and, eventually, forced into a brothel.
She glanced from the goblet laced with poison to the door. Her pulse raced. Tears rushed to the surface and burned her eyes before she could halt them. Once the knight appeared, there would be no turning back. Her heart twisted. She was as big a fool as the duchess. There had never been any turning back

I am honored to have Bruce Blake on my Blog today revealing his new book When Shadows Fall.

Guest Post
The Writer's Mind
One of the most common questions you hear asked of authors is 'where do your ideas come from?' If you read a few interviews, you'll find a wide variety of answers, many of which are pre-formulated to evoke laughter or feelings of inadequacy. Part of the problem with the question, I think, is that so much time has often passed since the author had the idea for the book, he or she likely doesn't even recall the impetus for the novel.
In the case of my upcoming book, When Shadows Fall, it has only been a couple of months since I began work on the project, so perhaps I can give you a tour of the writer's mind (please tread carefully...there's a lot of darkness and it's a bit messy).
I had finished writing the third book in my Icarus Fell urban fantasy series and began work on another project which, I'm sorry to say, didn't go so well. It did, however, put me in the mood to write epic fantasy; it had been nearly six months since I completed the Khirro's Journey trilogy, so it was time.
Step one to story idea: choose your genre (or sub-genre).
Once I've settled on what kind of story I want to write, I try to think of a ways to make it a little bit different from the norm. In the Khirro's Journey trilogy, I chose a non-traditional protagonist. For this series, I decided to have a prophecy discovered on an ancient scroll. Not so different, you say? How about a little confusion as to who the prophecy refers to, both on the good side and the evil side? I'm interested.
Step two to story idea: think of a twist.
The third thing that came to me as I ponderied the nature of this prophecy was the term 'Small Gods', which then became the title for the series. Something about it captured my attention, possibly because when we think about gods, we don't think of small things, but big, all-powerful beings. This prompted me to sit down and really think about the Small Gods, their role in the story, and other details about my world in general.
Step three to story idea: build your world.
As the world came together, more characters and story ideas came to light. I started thinking about having two groups known as Small Gods to throw more uncertainty into the prophecy. When I began digging into the religion, which I decided to be Goddess-based, I wondered what it would look like if the devotees of the religion were all women. What would happen to the men? What if a sect of men broke off and were secretly in opposition to the women? The more I thought, the more possibilities screamed at me to get writing.
Step four to story idea: imagine the possibilities.
The last thing I decided on—which is something I hope most authors do when they set out to write a new book—was to challenge myself. Not only does When Shadows Fall follow four different story lines, but I was determined to make the voice of each different and distinct. But it gets worse...in the second book, which I am currently writing and expecting to be ready for a Dec. 1 release, I am writing one story line from the POV of a blind character—no description based on sight—and another from the POV of a character who doesn't speak the same language as any of the other characters. Fun stuff.
Step five to story idea: challenge yourself.
So there you have it...where a story idea comes from, at least in the case of When Shadows Fall. For me, it is rarely in a dream or a flash of light, fully-formed and ready to put pen to paper—it's work. Not as glamourous as thinking a muse sits on my shoulder and whispers, but it gets the job done.

BlurbA hundred seasons have turned since the Goddess banished the Small Gods to the sky, leaving the land to mankind alone.
For Prince Teryk, life behind the castle walls is boring and uneventful until he stumbles upon an arcane scroll in a long-forgotten chamber. The parchment speaks of Small Gods, the fall of man, and the kingdom's savior—the firstborn child of the rightful king. It's his opportunity to prove himself to his father, the king, and assure his place in history. All he needs to do is find the man from across the sea—a man who can't possibly exist—and save mankind.
But ancient magic has been put in motion by a mysterious cult determined to see the Small Gods reborn. Powerful forces clash, uncaring for the lives of mortals in their struggle to prevent the return of the banished ones, or aid in their rebirth.
Named in a prophecy or not, what chance does a cocky prince who barely understands the task laid before him stand in a battle with the gods?

About the Author
BiographyBruce Blake lives on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. When pressing issues like shovelling snow and building igloos don't take up his spare time, Bruce can be found taking the dog sled to the nearest coffee shop to work on his short stories and novels.Actually, Victoria, B.C. is only a couple hours north of Seattle, Wash., where more rain is seen than snow, and the dog is too small to pull a sled. Since snow isn't really a pressing issue, Bruce spends more time trying to remember to leave the "u" out of words like "colour" and "neighbour" then he does shovelling (and darn those double l's). The father of two, Bruce is also the trophy husband of a burlesque diva.Bruce has been writing since grade school but it wasn't until a few years ago he set his sights on becoming a full-time writer. Since then, his first short story, "Another Man's Shoes" was published in the Winter 2008 edition of Cemetery Moon, another short, "Yardwork", was made into a podcast in Oct., 2011 by Pseudopod and his first Icarus Fell novel, On Unfaithful Wings, was published to Kindle in Dec., 2011. The second Icarus Fell novel, All Who Wander Are Lost, was released in July, 2012, and the third, Secrets of the Hanged Man, in July 2013. Sept., 2013 saw the publication ofBlood of the King, the first book in the Khirro's Journey epic fantasy trilogy, followed by second book, Spirit of the King, in Dec., 2012, and the third, Heart of the King in Jan., 2013. He has plans for more Icarus novels, several stand alones, and several more books in the Small Gods series.

From the Prologue of WHEN SHADOWS FALL
“Give it to me, Vesi.” She held out her hand, expectant. “We must speak the words to prevent this from happening again.”Her fingers brushed the edge of the paper, felt its roughness, its power, but then it disappeared. Ine’vesi pulled it away and glared at her, his brows drawn together.“Prevent it?” he asked, incredulous. The priest shook his head without removing his gaze from her eyes. “We must take this to Teva Stavoklis and leave instructions on how to bring us back.”Rak’bana’s mouth fell open. How did she not see this coming? She’d heard his words bordering on sacrilege, seen his disdain toward the Goddess in this time of judgment. But her sight had been clouded by the dreams, her mind filled with visions of the gray man, the Mother, the man from across the sea. She’d neglected to think for a moment that her twin brother—the man with whom she shared the priesthood and trusted more than anyone short of the Goddess herself—could have anything but the same goal as her.How wrong she’d been.“We can’t let this happen again, Vesi.” She despised the desperation creeping into her voice. “The generations that come after us must know.”Another rumble echoed through the chamber, this one louder than the last. Ine’vesi sneered. “We are in agreement, sister. This cannot happen again. The Goddess cannot be allowed to treat her loyal subjects in this manner. They must be given a way to prevent it, and bringing us back is the way.”“No. We deserve it. The Goddess never intended us to live this way. We--”The priest took a step back and her gaze fell to the parchment he held in his right hand, out of her reach. The visions that visited her dreams meant nothing if she did not set them to words on the scroll, left them to be found when the time they were needed came. If she didn’t, she’d have failed the Goddess.“The scroll will go to Teva Stavoklis, to be used when the Goddess again over-steps her bounds. To ensure her subjects are never again punished for being human.”Rak’bana narrowed her eyes. “We are no longer human, Vesi.”“No, I suppose not,” he conceded and took another step back. “We are closer to gods, aren’t we? Small gods, perhaps.”She bit down hard and fought against the oncoming tears choking her throat. A louder rumble, and this time the walls trembled. The long pike of one of the Sek’bala warriors shivered in its hand, the metal shaft rattling against its gauntleted fingers. Rak’bana directed her gaze toward the massive suit of plate, lowered her chin and raised her hand. She wiggled her fingers the way she did when she called the water to her bidding and her brother realized her intent. Ine’vesi’s head snapped to the side, eyes wide as he looked to the Sek’bala, expecting it to come to life.Rak’bana leaped toward him and snatched at the roll of parchment, her fingers grasping the edge. It took only an instant for Ine’vesi to realize she’d tricked him. The priest danced back two steps, but she’d gotten a grip on the scroll and it unrolled between them. They both stared at its blank surface as another ball of fire struck the building and a shower of sparks spilled through one of the high windows. They raised their heads; their eyes met.“Bana,” he said, voice calm and even, though his eyes reflected different emotions. “Don’t do--”“When days of peace approach their end.”“Rak’bana.”“And wounds inflicted are too deep to mend.” Fear and disappointment surged through her, but she forced herself to speak clearly, drawing out the words to their full power, ensuring the parchment heard her over the reverberating impacts shuddering the walls. “A sign shall come, a lock with no key.”“Stop, Bana!”“Borne by a man from across the sea.”The wavering light of the flames licking the world flashed on Ine’vesi’s blade. Rak’bana had an instant to recognize the slender knife before he jerked her toward him and plunged the tip between her ribs. The wicked point tore through her flesh, found its way between the bones, and pressed against her heart. The agony of the wound stole her breath, but the anguish of her brother’s betrayal crushed her soul. He pulled her close, the loose parchment folding between them, and a fresh wave of pain crashed through her, transported along her veins to the tips of her fingers. “I am sorry, Bana, but it must be this way” he said, his tone quiet amongst the thunder of the Goddess’ judgment. “We are gods.”

The twists and turns are relentless, the roads of the fast action leading in all directions, but time is running out, and Cuff, his faithful Rosie at his side, knows it.
Excerpt:These were not naked eyes, for the distance between these eyes and the beach bar at Cathy's Fancy was too great for the naked eye to discern who was who. No, these eyes had planned meticulously. The eyes were glued to a pair of terribly expensive and unbelievably powerful Swarovski Optik binoculars. The balcony on which they now worked, taking in the scene before them, was the perfect place to see but not be seen. The powerful binoculars saw to that.
The distance, the palm trees, and the rays of the sun all helped. The position had been hand picked, after careful consideration. Every angle had been considered, and, one by one, they had all been discarded for one reason or another until this very spot, the perfect place to observe while not being observed, had been selected.
Yes, the eyes had seen it all. The eyes had seen precisely what they had hoped to see. They were like a master puppeteer. They planned, controlled, and observed, but from a safe distance. They did not miss a trick.
The eyes. The deadly eyes of St. Croix.
About the Author:I have resided in and have visited many places in the world, all of which have contributed in some way to my own published writing. I have literally traveled throughout the world, on numerous occasions. I have lived in Finland, Germany, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, on the island of St. Croix, where DEADLY EYES is set.
I spent my early years in the small town of Lone Pine, California, the home of almost every western movie, in addition to a wide variety of other genres, made in the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. In fact, Hollywood still films parts of big-time movies there today. My dad, the town’s lifeguard at the time, personally knew John Wayne, Lloyd Bridges, and Lee Marvin, all of whom came to the town’s pool, the Memorial Plunge, at times to cool off after a hectic day of working in the sun. I was even an extra in a movie filmed there in 1957, MONOLITH MONSTERS, a B-cult favorite even today. I was ten years old at the time. Even though I resided in a small town hours from the big city, I was exposed to the excitement of action and heroes at a formative age, and, thus, my interest in writing novels of suspense such as DEADLY EYES was born.
As a recent retiree from a forty-year career as a professor of writing, I now live in Southern California wine country with my wife, Kitty, and our two other cats.

Excerpt Two
Kelly did a double take. The woman hadstepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine. It was Caroline Harridan, the fashion model. The woman graced the pages of Vogue and Elle magazines on a regular basis.
Kelly looked at Jack as Caroline approached the table and saw a pained look on his face. Caroline completely ignored Kelly as she swooped in on Jack and planted an extremely friendly kiss on his lips. Kelly felt as though she were completely invisible and almost wished she was. They clearly had a relationship that was more than just friendly and Kelly knew she couldn’t hold a candle to this woman as she sat there in her dowdy strappy sundress and sandals.
Kelly cleared her throat and peered around the woman to Jack.
“Oh! Caroline, this is my wife, Kelly. Kelly, this is Caroline Harridan. An old, uh, friend of mine.” Jack stood and came around to Kelly’s seat as he made the introductions so Kelly stood with him and took Caroline’s hand in a brief handshake. Jack looked like the last thing he wanted to be doing was introducing Kelly as his wife and once again Kelly felt a pang of guilt at having put Jack in this position. Even though he said she was saving him from losing his company, she still felt like she had weaseled her way into the marriage and she knew she was nothing like the woman he would likely have married if he had been given a choice.
Nonetheless, Kelly drew up her pride and smiled her brightest smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Caroline raised an eyebrow at Jack. God, Kelly had always wished she could master the one eyebrow look, but she couldn’t quite get it. On Caroline, it looked confident, cocky, and oh so silky smooth. “Married?” Caroline asked Jack as she drew her hand away from Kelly as if afraid she might be sullied by the contact.
Jack nodded and slipped his arm around Kelly. “Yes, Caroline. Kelly and I were married a week ago. We haven’t quite gotten around to sending an announcement out about the wedding. We eloped.” Jack smiled down at Kelly as he said it in a very good impression of a man deeply in love with his wife.
Caroline pouted her best model pout and turned to Jack. “Jack Sutton off the market? Whatever will all of us single gals do now?” She put on a show as if she were thinking and then shrugged her shoulders and continued in a flirty voice.
“Well, maybe it won’t last.” Caroline reached out and pretended to brush an imaginary piece of lint off of Jack’s shirt in a blatant excuse to touch his chest. “You always know where to find me if things don’t work out.” Kelly had now seen Jack uncomfortable twice since she’d known him. Caroline ignored Jack’s discomfort and Kelly’s shocked look.
Kelly couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Hell, the marriage might be fake and she might not be able to compete with Jack’s exes, including the blond goddess standing in front of her, but she’d be damned if she were going to sit by and let this woman hit on her fake husband right in front of her. A woman has her pride, after all.
Kelly possessively caressed Jack’s chest in the very spot where Caroline’s hand had just sat, and smiled at Caroline. “I’m sure Jack won’t be needing your….” She paused and looked Caroline up and down as if she found her wanting in all manner before continuing, “Your…uh, company in the near future, Caroline. But it was a pleasure to meet you. Good-bye.” And with that, Kelly dismissed Caroline Harridan, super model and cover girl.
Jack laughed and pulled Kelly tighter to him. In a huff, Caroline turned and stalked away from the table. As soon as they took their seats again, Kelly felt the heat climbing her cheeks.
“I’m so sorry,” she whispered across the table to Jack.
“What for?” Jack whispered back, smiling.
“I’m sorry. You probably wanted to see her again after this is over and I think I must have just ruined your chances for that. I just thought… Well, I just couldn’t. I mean, she was just so rude, I just….” Kelly blew out a puff of air, blowing her bangs up in a small gust. “I’m sorry, I just didn’t think.”
“Kelly, first of all, I’m married to you for the next year.” Jack spoke quietly so no one would overhear their conversation, but also gently so that Kelly would understand that he meant what he said. “I won’t embarrass you or treat you with disrespect during that time. While we’re together, we’re together and I won’t be with another woman, even if you and I aren’t exactly together in the traditional sense.”
Jack continued as Kelly stared at him with wide eyes. “But, second, that woman drives me up the wall. We dated briefly. We went out a handful of times over the period of a month or so and she has stalked me ever since. Lord knows how she knew we were here today but you can bet it wasn’t a coincidence. She shows up at events and fundraisers and throws herself at me because she’s determined to marry a wealthy man and she couldn’t care less that we had nothing in common and no spark whatsoever between us. You can chase her away any time you’d like,” Jack finished with a smile and a wink at Kelly.
“Hmm,” Kelly said, frowning.
Jack laughed. “What now?”
“You didn’t have a spark with that?” Kelly said, looking toward the door Caroline had walked out of moments before. “How could you not sizzle with that?”
Jack looked at the door and back to Kelly and shrugged. “Just didn’t. She’s pretty vacant. Just a big old empty package with a huge bow but not a damn thing inside the box.”

I received the book from the touring host for an honest review.
A wonderful romance novel I enjoyed in one sitting. From the moment I started to read I just could not put it down. Great plot, interesting characters and the romance, boy old boy!!!
Well written and fast paced you are introduced to Jack Sutton and Kelly Bradley. Each with their own reasons for doing what needs to be done, each refusing to accept the immediate love between them, seeking all or nothing. With a jealous aunt and stalker the tension grew to give you a wonderful read.
Jack, the CEO of a family company was used being in control, his orderly world running smoothly with his best friends Andrew and Chad at his side. Their support valuable and sincere till the end. Romantic and passionate this man opened the way for her to believe him, trust him and....get the book, really. You will not be disappointed. **smile**
Kelly's feisty and innocence persona held you while you learn more about her, her friends and her family. Doing the most unexpectedly which changed the direction of her life...forever. Clever but without conceit she simply did what she had to do to secure her future. Receiving more than she hoped for.
The looming danger of a stalker in the background holding your breath, hoping that Jack and his team will do what needs to be done. Human trafficking is a very real issue.
I loved aunt's Mabry revealed moment as she realized the power of forgiveness and the grip she was in. Releasing her to become the woman Jack knew she was.
An excellent read till the end.

Flames shot at Ian. He stumbled over the gravel, backing away from the dragon’s fury and from the fire surrounding him. He ran, knees buckling under him and slid toward the edge of the cliff. Hands outstretched, he grasped for something secure to break his fall, a rock, a limb, or a root protruding from the rocky precipice. There was nothing. Cold air howled against his back as he lost his balance. With a scream, he woke. Not another nightmare!Once Ian realized where he was, he sighed, thankful he was still in his bed under the covers. The moon cast a warm glow across his blanket and illuminated the cluttered desk, his homework, and an empty soda can. The sketches of swords he’d drawn that afternoon still fluttered in the draft from the open window. Yesterday's jeans propped the closet door open, revealing dirty socks that peeked out from the dark beyond. Ian rolled over and closed his eyes, hoping the cool breeze would bring comfort. The breeze turned into an icy wind numbing his body. Again he fell.He plummeted past the cold jagged boulders on a dark, lonely mountain, landing on a cliff. His body rolled and bounced off the rocks. Bits of gravel stuck to his flesh; the salty taste of blood filled his mouth. Burning hair sizzled and curled before finally being snuffed out in the dirt. He tumbled off a ledge and fell again. Flinging his hands over his head to avoid the stones and rubble that were airborne with him, he plunged even farther down the mountainside.Men dressed in deerskin with quivers on their backs, and bows in their hands ran out of a cave as he flew by. An arrow spun out of the fire, missed the dragon, flipped in the air, and when the arrowhead made contact with the ground, it planted itself deep in the snow next to him, as though it were a tombstone, the shaft vibrating with a silent lament.A stranger lay in a snowdrift, limbs hanging loose at his side, face bruised and swollen. It was then Ian realized he wasn’t the one who had fallen, but this stranger. The man smiled at him and then blond lashes sealed his eyes shut.A voice broke the silence. “Father!”Ian woke again.Beads of sweat dripped down his forehead and trickled past his ears. The curtains that framed his open window ruffled like ghosts dancing in the night while the neighborhood dogs barked at the moon.He lay there catching his breath as he did every night wishing the nightmares he’d had ever since his mother died would stop.
On the parchment of time a scene is drawnWhispering lines taking animate formLike pages of life its corners are turnedAgain and again until lessons are learnedA breath of sweet wind and motion is givenA Realm is created; a Life is within.

Interview Questions:
1. Where did the idea come from for the book?Fairy tales and make believe hold a special place in my heart. I was just telling my granddaughter today that whenever I lost a tooth, my mom would put a quarter in an envelope along with a little drawing she’d do of the tooth fairy she claimed she saw.
My dad would get dressed up as Santa and ring the bell on the front door which was right by my window, and he’d eat all the cookies we put out for St. Nick.I think it was my mom and dad that fed my imagination, that and the world of Disney. My favorite movie was the Wizard of Oz. My favorite books Black beauty and Alice in Wonderland. I lived in a fantasy world when I realized that I too could write a story, paint a dragon, feed the imagination of young people, the Realm came into being. It’s a story of another world, magic, wizards, make believe. Beautiful horses and magical forests and little computer characters that come alive. It’s the kind of story that I would have wanted to read when I was little.2. What genre does your book fall under? The Ian’s Realm Saga is a fantasy story for young and young at heart. Whereas it was first targeted for boys ages nine and up I found that adults are loving it as much as the kids.3. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?I think Alex Wolff would make a great young Ian. He’s got the dark bushy hair and innocence. It would be difficult for me to cast someone other than the actor that plays Dad in the trailer, Robert Odekirk. I’d love Armie Hammer to play Amleth.
Bindi Irwin would make a lovely 15 year old Abbi
4. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? A boy follows his father through a portal into a deceptively beautiful Realm, fall prey to a tribe of dragon worshipers and embarks on a perilous search for his father.5. Who is publishing your work?PDMI is publishing the series.6. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?I spent about a month and a half writing the first draft.7. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?I’ve been told the story is a cross between Tron and Narnia. It has elements of both, but really, I’ve never read anything like The Ian’s Realm Saga.8. Who or What inspired you to write this book?My grandchildren are a big inspiration. I really wanted to write a story my grandsons could enjoy.9. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? The trilogy is only the beginning. Two more books are already written and four short stories are key ingredients to the mix. The shorts will be included with each of the first four books. If you like dragons, wizards, magic, danger, and the fight of good against evil, I think you will like The Ian’s Realm Saga.

Another 5 Star review for The Last Boat by John Hanley

The news was so shocking that Churchill suppressed it and the report on the event is sealed until the year 2040.
But this is not an investigation into this tragic event but the beginning of a journey for a group of young people who have gone to help but find themselves trapped and fleeing the Nazi blitzkrieg as it rampages through France.
At the same time that the Luftwaffe is strafing the survivors of their bombing another shipment, so important that it could have changed the outcome of the war, is trying to escape from France.
The tragedy was the sinking of HMT Lancastria on 17th June 1940.
The shipment was world’s entire supply of D2O or ‘heavy water’ without which research into splitting the atom would have been impossible.
Prising apart the floorboards of history, The Last Boat links these two events as Jack Renouf and his friends try to escape the Germans and help this cargo to safety.
But safety is an illusion and the story culminates in the bombing of Jersey on 28th June and leaves Jack in desperate need of another Last Boat to escape.
The narrative voice is Jack Renouf’s, whom readers might have met in Against The Tide. He is a year older but only a little wiser. Through the immediacy of his first person perspective you are compelled to witness events which cannot leave you unmoved. ‘Muscular authenticity’ was the verdict of one reviewer while others have described Jack’s account as ‘intense, exciting, absorbing and frightening'

I received the book from the author for an honest review.
(Die man leer net nie, ai tog.) The man just does not learn...sigh. Caroline's hold over him was relentless, but yet it shows his softer side. In The Last Boat, we met up with a year older Jack, ruthless, more determined and adventures as the German invasion becomes more real on the island of Jersey. With his trustworthy Boadicea that takes him every where he needs to go.
With more twists in this historical, the plot develops with a steady pace as all the old characters were back. Some more tenacious, some even disappointing but yet it enhanced the story line from scene to scene. Still very descriptive you learn more about the group as they prepare for war against Germany. As low flying warplanes bring tension to the inhabitants, and the general mood changed from tranquil to unbearable tension people change. Some fighting for what is theirs others taking advantage of the moment to make a quick buck. With Shakespearean quotes that reflect the mood of the particular scene beautifully.
The author's knowledge and research coming through as you learn about the different boats, engines, swimming and tides of the ocean. Each playing a significant role within the plot line. Giving you a good idea of what life had to be during those troubled times. Suspense full, a love-triangle and relationships breaking down or mending, all a sub plot which all plays a role in building the story to an enjoyable read. Masterly crafted as the author takes you into the world of his characters and actual events that make this believable and entertaining.

An experiment performed by Leonardo da Vinci, who believed having a dual DNA would grant a person immortality, used magic to render Bruno a chimera – the head of a lion, body of a dragon. The only time he can mingle with people is during Carnevale, ten glorious days of masked anonymity, frivolity and intimacy.
Melina Weaver learned fire dancing to enliven her dull existence. A scientist, her long hours at the lab leave no time for a social life. For ten days at Carnevale, she can pretend to be someone else. Someone sexy and daring, who lives on the edge.
Once she meets Bruno, her wish comes true, but everything goes terribly wrong. Beneath Bruno’s costume lurks an alpha male, but is he dangerous? Worse, can she return to an employer who sells her research to the military to make an army of efficient killers? Her only hope may lie with the man she’s just met and never seen.

Excerpt One
“The thrill of the challenge, I suppose.” It balanced the rest of her mundane life, to a degree. Mastering each new level gave her a sense of achievement, where work couldn’t.
Something flashed through his dark eyes. “Mistakes must be very painful.”
“I practiced a long time before I worked up the nerve to actually light the wands. I found the fire great incentive to focus, however.” God, her grin must be goofy, the way he stared. Such gorgeous eyes, such a deep brown they almost appeared black. He probably had rugged features, if his large hands provided any indication. Too bad he wore gloves, another barrier between them.
“Yes,” he said, “I imagine so.”
“What about you? What other magic do you know?” Oh please, can you get any more ridiculous? It sounded like a line from a bad chick flick.
The crinkle around his eyes was the only evidence of his smile, but enough to charm her.
“Lifetimes of studying the dark arts have provided me with many tricks.”
“Lifetimes?” she blurted.
He stiffened in her arms. “Pardon?”
She watched him carefully. “You said ‘lifetimes’. Plural.” And what the hell did he mean by ‘dark arts’?
Rigidity masked the grace of his movements. “I’m sure you’re mistaken.” He stared over her head as they whirled to the song’s rhythm.
Mistaken my ass. How very strange. More strange that the question upset him. He’d clammed up, and his muscles were so tense, she expected him to bolt. Better to drop it. For now. “Must have been a slip of the tongue.”
“Yes.” Relief sounded in his tone, though guarded.

Be careful what you wish for
Did your parents ever tell you this? (Over and over again, like mine, lol. It was one of my Dad’s favorite sayings) Be careful what you wish for – you just might get it.
Telling that to a desperately lonely woman is a waste of breath! Those long hours of working in a lab make her imagine the guy she’d love to meet – tall, dark, strikingly handsome. Alpha male, of course. Intelligent would be great. And cultured. A guy who appreciates hard work as much as fun and humor.
My dad used to have another saying that stuck with me – don’t wish your life away. So true! I spent way too much time as a kid dreaming about what I wanted. Dreaming is wonderful, don’t get me wrong. Without dreaming, I’d never be a writer. All those daydreams brought to life stories and vivid characters that now seem like dear old friends. And while I was wishing and dreaming as a kid, I was also writing. Some dreams just stay with you.
I know what I’ve been wishing for lately – release day for each book in this trilogy! Decadent released Cursed in April, and last month released the second book, Charmed. Claimed, the third in the series, releases this month! It’s a dream come true.

Excerpt
Melina should have stayed in her room. Finding him had seemed like such incredible luck. Now she wondered whether luck had turned against her. That sound—almost an animal sound—had that come from him? Had she imagined it? Strange things went on during Carnevale, her online friends had said, some so inexplicable no science could explain them. She’d laughed when they warned her she might get in over her head. The sheer strength of his muscles, the raw power beneath his clothes, thrilled her. His pace conveyed the same urgency. Pressed to his side, nerves jangling, her foot slipped on the stone step.In one fluid motion, he scooped her into his arms and continued hurrying along. “Are you all right?”“Unless embarrassment leaves a mortal wound. I’m normally not so clumsy.” She settled against his broad chest. Such incredible stamina. An image pierced her mind: his muscular, naked torso above her, his hips rocking against hers. His presence overwhelmed her, and she was acutely aware of every motion, every breath. At the bottom of the stone stairs, he set her on her feet but maintained his firm hold. “Dampness has a habit of lingering here. You’d best allow me to assist you.”“Please.” She fitted herself against him, acutely aware of the way his body moved against hers.“In these calle of San Samuele,” he said, “Giacomo Casanova spent his youth.”“Calle?” She should have brushed up on her Italian. He dipped his head closer. “Narrow alleyways.”“Narrow and dark. I wonder how many trysts Casanova had in these alleys?” And Casanova had nothing on Bruno. Women probably flocked around him constantly. Acid flashed through her at the thought.“Too many to recount.” He paused, then added, “If one believes the writings in his diary. His mentor, the poet Giorgio Baffe, lived just down there.”“Mentor?” She didn’t recall Casanova writing poetry. Did Bruno as well? Or was he not romantic that way?“Of a sort. The man who introduced Casanova to worldly pleasures.”The way the last two words rolled off his tongue, so enticing. She glanced at the dark steps that led to deeper shadows beside the canal. She surprised herself by steering him down there, tugging him to an abrupt halt. “Do such mentors still exist?”He whirled her against a wall. “Why? Would you be interested?”She let her hands wander across the contours of his chest. “You did offer to introduce me to the delights of Venice.”The same growl as earlier rumbled in his throat, unmistakable this time. “You do like to play with fire, don’t you?”And he knew how to ignite one.
This man had something to hide. How intriguing.

I received this book from the touring host for an honest review.
A fast paced and quick read that I read in one sitting. We are taken into the world of genetic science and mystic. Corrupt politicians and scientist and a beautiful sorceress that wants her own way. Two people, so opposite from each other met the first night of the Carnevale in Venice, and immediately you could feel the scorching passion ignites as their eyes locked. Filled with mystery and romance you quickly learn that the masked man is not whom he seems to be. I loved the way that the author took real historical figures and brought them to the story line to give you more of a reality feel to the plot. The reason for the name of the series.
Our heroine an ordinary woman, turned into a seductress and literally played with fire, but at the end we learned more about her feisty side, determined to help the man trapped in the clutches of magic. Bruno's only wish to be accepted as he is finds a woman made for him, and together they not only scorched the sheets but brought to light the evil lurking in normal everyday life.
An entertaining paranormal story that will keep you guessing till the very last page.
