Notes to a loved one

Notes to a loved one:
Site for sharing message to those you no longer can.

My newest project has officially launched. Notes to a loved one is a place to share messages to those we no longer can, or those we simply can’t.

My hubby and I had to say goodbye to our sweet little girl, Sarah, this weekend. It was incredibly tough, but I know that we made the right decision and that she is at peace and no longer in any pain. She was the first fur-kid that we adopted together as a couple and we were fortunate enough to have her for 18 years. She will be greatly missed.

Notes to a loved one

My new project idea is coming to fruition. I’ve sent letters to family and friends asking them to contribute and heard some good feedback so far. I’m hoping that by the end of the month I will be launching either a new blog or a website called Notes to A Loved One. It will be a place for people to share messages of love with those that have passed, those they no longer have contact with, or perhaps someone they just can’t bring themselves to say it to in person. I am of course dedicating the site to my mom, who will be inspiration behind many of my own Notes.

Just finished this … Another tough subject - child abuse,...

Just finished this … Another tough subject - child abuse, loss of parent and siblings, and trauma of survival. Seems odd to say I enjoyed it, but the main character drew me in and kept me rooting for him.

New Project?

A day or two ago, one of my dear coworkers Cindy was sharing how she texted her son at the time of his birth on his birthday. She told him how his birth was one of the best things to ever happen to her. It was such a wonderful and beautiful example of the bond between a mother and son. Of course, watching her face light up as she shared it was a true delight.

It got me thinking about my own relationship with my mom and the amazing bond we shared. I started thinking about all the times in the past seven years that I wished I could call her or text her. These thoughts stayed with me all through the day and long into the night. I need to do something with them - I need to let them out - I need to share them. But what and how to do that I am not sure yet. Is it a blog, a journal, or a book? All I know right now is that I need to start jotting them down. I can organize them later.

You're reading about what?

Over the years I’ve found myself drawn more and more to seek out books that cover topics that would be considered controversial / not-so nice / depressing / emotional. That’s not to say that I don’t still love me some graphic novels or a sweet lovey-dovey gay romance; but the books and stories that have touched my heart and keep me wanting to read long into the night lately have a focus on characters that have lived with and survived a tragedy or traumatic experience. For example, the ones that have completely drawn me in deal with children who were kidnapped and returned to their families years later. The knowledge that these characters endured some of the most vile and cruel experiences is one that turns my stomach, but it is the struggle to reintegrate back into their old lives while also dealing with the psychological trauma is one that keeps me engaged. I have this desire to see and feel this character struggle, grow, and (hopefully) succeed in finding their place and moving on with their life. It is that inner struggle of the victim and their love ones - the many voices all trying to make sense of something that doesn’t make sense. It is that journey that I am drawn too.

Some titles that I’ve read recently:

When Jeff Comes Home - by Catherine Atkins

Remember Me Like This - by Bret Anthony Johnston

Where You Can Find Me - by Sheri Joseph
