How are Cognitive Computers Helping AI to Consume Less Energy
We have all heard how AI is making our lives more efficient, but the real question is, what makes AI efficient? The very soul of Artificial intelligence is data, and globally, data centers consume 200 Terawatt-hours of power annually. This energy is enough to support 20 million households in the United States annually and can empower 333 million cars for a year.
A data center is nothing but a warehouse filled with computers computing large data rivers. Recently, the growing number of data centers across the globe has raised a consequentialist concern: emission. So, let’s discuss: What is the power problem Artificial Intelligence is facing? What are the solutions? Which company has come up with the solution?
The Power ProblemA wise man once said, “The best way to solve a problem is structuring it.” The quote finely resonates with the AI energy consumption problem we face today. Here, the problem is not energy generation for AI, but the overall energy consumption of AI-data centers. One can use this energy for various purposes, like making the environment sustainable and quality of life.
Circulating around how AI works, one thing grabs our attention: Data Centres. As the demand for artificial intelligence increases across industries, the demand for data centers grows, too. Data centers may be the most essential component of AI/ML; they help to compute, analyze, and store data for AI models. A very scalable data center can be as big as two average football fields, which is massive as it holds around 4200 of 24U racks.
This data center consists of 1000s of HPCs (High Performing Computers) that could help AI with various tasks that consume high energy power. Also, according to IEA, they are responsible for emitting 3% of total GreenHouse Gases globally. This is just one phase of the problem; the crucial one is providing energy consumption.
During the 100% energy utilization, a single data center facility consumes around 20 Megawatt. Below is the given rising power consumption chart that clears our speculations.
Global Electricity Demand of Data Centers 2010-2030
The lines here depict three possible scenarios: Best, Worst, and Expected. The worst scenario symbolizes data centers would not strategize their consumption of resources. It will lead to more emissions, global issues, and a power generation shortage. The expected scenario is that they reduce their consumption or strategize for efficiency. The third one, well, that is what we are going to discuss further: An efficient solution.
An Efficient SolutionWhen you break down the problem, you will get that there are two parts correlated to each other: The consumption part and the emission part. A company integrating technology and expertise for efficiency and scalability has introduced a microchip. This microchip is what will be the key to making AI energy efficient. The microchip makes AI the phoenix of the technological world.
A cognitive microchip that will help AI to consume less power. The ultimate aim of Artificial intelligence is to think like humans, and cognitive computers can do that. They are like intelligent children, but they can think faster, learn faster, and process information using various means. The microchip can learn predictions and patterns and make decisions like humans. The three technologies cognitive computers utilize are Natural Language processors, machine learning, and AI. I know, right? We circle back to where we started. AI is helping itself to become more energy efficient, achieving Green- Tech, and reaching the sustainability goal every industry craves.
“The human brain can achieve remarkable performance while consuming little power.” –Thanos Vasipoulos, Predoctoral Researcher, IBM
What makes cognitive computers Energy EfficientWho would have thought replicating human-like brain processing power could give us the following benefits? But here we are. These manycore microchips/cognitive computers can multitask at a very high-speed spectrum, allowing data centers to consume less energy. Another one is adaptive algorithms, where a data center can learn the most efficient way to perform a task. Lastly, these processors are designed to consume less energy and have an in-built energy-saving feature like smartphones.
The attributes that make the cognitive computers faster, better, and smarter are:
Parallel processingAdaptive algorithmsLow-power processingEnergy saving featuresApart from this, cognitive computers also have numerous other benefits:
Accurate Data analysisImproving customer interactionsEnhance productivity and service qualityUpgraded troubleshooting and anomaly detectionThere are many benefits of cognitive computers yet to be explored; maybe exploring them will help us to reach the perfect solution. Sure, cognitive computers can eliminate numerous challenges data center faces, but some challenges could also hinder the implementation of these microchips.
What will it take to Implement the Algorithm?Cognitive computers are powerful microprocessors that could lead data centers to a more efficient working phase. The chip can help data centers worldwide achieve the expected energy consumption trajectory. However, these high-speed data processing computers come with their own challenges. Here are a few of the challenges that could hinder the implementation
ComplexityThe microchip we are discussing here can leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning. It hardwires their programs and algorithms to an IC. A tip of AI and IC can bring a lot of complexities. It becomes more complex when we are using it to drive data centers where multiple ICs are working together for an optimum result.
Although it’s an age of digital technology becoming intricate, it is essential to develop simplifying frameworks and platforms. So, every step we take towards making AI more efficient must also grow a branch of simplification. At last, if the technology cannot be used for the betterment of society, then it is not worth exploring.
CostThe cognitive computers that would achieve the desired energy efficiency for data centers and AI systems are costly. Hopefully, government initiatives and cost-effective tech could contribute to it.
Skills ShortageThe primary issue, on the one hand, is that people are pretty optimistic about adapting AI; on the other, there are few doubts. Consequently, it creates a skill gap, and there are not many workers who can learn, adapt, and contribute to the development. Cognitive computing, AI, and big data tech are new-generation concepts that must be explored on a large scale. There needs to be programs, certifications, and educational institutes dedicated to it globally.
ConclusionThe new world powered by Artificial intelligence has pros and cons, and every solution does. It should be noted that we will preserve the benefits while the negatives can be eradicated. Sure, data centers used by AI have a massive energy consumption problem, but we are moving towards implementing more Green AI that consumes less energy.
A cognitive computer is an example, a milestone in this long journey of perseverance. In the end, achieving sustainability is the primary goal of every technological solution provider. A core ethos supporting society’s development should be adapted, integrated, and utilized for the most favorable outcome.

India demands $12B from online gaming firms, cites tax evasion
In a massive crackdown, Indian tax authorities have issued notices to numerous online gaming companies demanding approximately 1 trillion rupees ($12.03 billion) in taxes that the companies allegedly evaded over the years, a senior government official revealed on Wednesday.
According to an Oct. 25 Reuters report, the notices come just two months after India implemented a new 28% tax on all funds deposited by users to play games on online gaming platforms. The tax prompted strong protests from the Indian gaming industry, with some companies like Mobile Premier League even laying off employees as a result. One anonymous government official commented:
Experts say that the 28% tax makes many online games financially unviableThe amount for which show cause notices have been issued to online gaming companies is around 1 trillion rupees.
Gaming companies argue they already pay 18% GST on the platform fees earned per game. However, the government counters that platform fees are only a fraction of the total pool deposited by users, which it suggests to be the actual revenue earned.
The GST Council has introduced significant amendments to the rules governing the taxation of online gaming. Under the new framework, the GST rate of 28% will apply to online gaming, regardless of whether these gaming activities are categorized as games of skill or chance.
Different GST rates were applicable in the previous system based on the online game’s nature. For example, games of skill (such as rummy or fantasy sports), which depend on a player’s expertise, were subject to an 18% GST rate. In contrast, games of chance (such as gambling and betting), where the outcomes rely mostly on luck, were taxed at a 28% GST rate.
Under the new framework, the GST rate of 28% will apply to the total value of the bets placed in online gamingThis GST rate shall apply regardless of whether these gaming activities are categorized as games of skill or chance.
As per the amended Central Goods and Services Act, online gaming is defined as offering games on the internet, including online money gaming. Online money gaming refers to online games where players bet money or virtual assets to win money or virtual assets, regardless of the nature of the game being based on skill or chance.
Furthermore, the Integrated Goods and Services Act has also been amended to introduce provisions requiring foreign suppliers offering online money gaming to charge GST to Indian customers. Online gaming businesses should proactively assess their tax positions and adapt their ERP systems and tax calculation processes to align with the amended GST regulations, ensuring seamless compliance.

Obama Gifts Hamas a Ready-Made Excuse for Its Next Terror Attack | The Gateway Pundit
Leftist critics of Israel are fond of playing the oppressor card. It allows them to talk out of both sides of their mouths.
You’d have to be crazy to come right out and say Israel had the horrific massacre of some 1,400 of its people — including civilian women, the elderly and babies — coming. To maintain any form of strained credibility, even many leftists will say Israel has the right to defend itself.
On the other hand, to appease the anti-Semites in their ranks, they will warn Israel that it has to play fair and not go too far in its response to the raping of its women and the butchering of Israeli babies.
Why? Because Israelis are framed by leftists as colonizing oppressors who, at the end of the day, deserve what they get.
Former President Barack Obama — known for his oratory skills in saying one thing and meaning another — is in lockstep with the Israeli as oppressor narrative.
In a statement published Monday on Medium, Obama started with the familiar line that “Israel has a right to defend its citizens” and root out Hamas following its “horrific” surprise attack on Oct. 7.
However, it didn’t take long for Obama to shift gears. The third paragraph began, “But even as we support Israel, we should also be clear that how Israel prosecutes this fight against Hamas matters.”
There’s the shift. Israel has the right to respond to the brutalization of innocents, but …
By the fourth paragraph, the former president was finishing up with his condemnation of Hamas by saying its “military operations are deeply embedded within Gaza — and its leadership seems to intentionally hide among civilians, thereby endangering the very people they claim to represent.”
Bad Hamas, right? That’s what it looks like on the surface. The subtext suggests that for the Israelis to accomplish their goal, they will have to march into heavily populated Gaza and indiscriminately kill civilians. This, the Obama narrative seems to suggest, is unacceptable.
No one wants to see civilians get caught in the crossfire except Hamas, which uses them as human shields, as Obama suggested.
However, the Israelis aren’t going to rape women and purposefully murder babies. There will be civilian casualties, but not by Israeli design.
What Obama does not say is more telling than what he does say. He never says what Israel should do, just what it shouldn’t do — attacking Gaza will mean the death of innocent Palestinian civilians, so don’t do it. That would mean Israel would have to give up on rooting out Hamas.
Failure to hold Hamas accountable would be the same as inviting another attack on Israeli civilians. That’s what terrorists do.
By the fifth paragraph, Obama geared up to give Hamas a ready-made excuse for its next terrorist attack, warning that “any Israeli military strategy that ignores the human costs could ultimately backfire.”
“Already, thousands of Palestinians have been killed in the bombing of Gaza, many of them children,” he lectured. “Hundreds of thousands have been forced from their homes.”
I’m not sure where Obama gets his news. Maybe Al Jazeera? Whatever the case, he clearly was trying to shift blame from Hamas to Israel. Are we now to see Israel as the terrorists?
The former president wasn’t finished. His next move was declaring the Palestinians as oppressed by the colonizing Israelis. To make this point, he went on a bit of a rant.
Declaring that “all of us need to do our best to put our best values, rather than our worst fears, on display,” he described what that would entail:
“It means acknowledging that Palestinians have also lived in disputed territories for generations; that many of them were not only displaced when Israel was formed but continue to be forcibly displaced by a settler movement that too often has received tacit or explicit support from the Israeli government; that Palestinian leaders who’ve been willing to make concessions for a two-state solution have too often had little to show for their efforts; and that it is possible for people of good will to champion Palestinian rights and oppose certain Israeli government policies in the West Bank and Gaza without being anti-semitic.”
Spare us the history lesson, professor.
The Israeli-Palestinian dispute has a long history that reaches back to biblical times. Reducing it to the aftermath of World War II may be convenient for leftists, but it’s at the expense of the truth.
Leftists choose power over truth each and every time.
Obama ended his lecture with a call to action — do what I say and all will be good.
I can see him pontificating from a Harvard lectern as he opined, “But if we care about keeping open the possibility of peace, security and dignity for future generations of Israeli and Palestinian children — as well as for our own children — then it falls upon all of us to at least make the effort to model, in our own words and actions, the kind of world we want them to inherit.”
What model was he suggesting? That we talk out of both sides of our mouth like consummate politicians? That won’t do. Nothing at all would make sense.
Does he want us to condemn Israel and praise the Palestinians? That would amount to perpetuating a big lie.
Or maybe he wants us to follow along like blind lemmings and make it easier for leftists like him to lead the West over a cliff.
It’s not going to happen.
Drop the mic, Obama. It’s time for you to get off the stage — for good.

Biden Administration Focuses on Menthol Cigarette Ban as the World Burns | The Gateway Pundit
The Biden administration began talking about a ban on menthol cigarettes back in April. Now they are looking at it again, because it’s not like there’s anything else going on right now, right?
The border is non-existent, war is brewing in the Middle East and inflation is through the roof, but this is what they want to focus on.
Some people think this could actually hurt Biden in 2024.
FOX News reports:
Biden admin’s proposed menthol cigarette ban could become liability in 2024: ‘Unintended consequences’
The Biden administration’s proposed menthol cigarette ban could become a thorn in the president’s side during the 2024 elections, political operatives planning to run ads attacking him have told Fox News Digital.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initially proposed rules prohibiting menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars in April 2022 to “prevent children from becoming the next generation of smokers” and to “help adult smokers quit.” After missing its August deadline, the agency said it remains a top issue, and they are nearing the end of the process.
“Finalizing these two product standards remains a top priority for the FDA,” Brian King, the director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, told Fox News Digital. “The posting of both rules on the [White House’s Office of Management and Budget] website means they have reached the final step of review for regulatory documents.”
The proposed ban has faced worries from critics who say it could lead to heightened border problems with Mexican drug cartels saturating the U.S. black market with the prohibited products. Politico reported that it has also divided Black leaders, with some arguing it would lead to over-policing against the community.
It’s just absurd.
I don’t smoke—and even if I did, I doubt I’d be a menthol guy—but this is absurd.
In any event, changes to federal law should be made by Congress—not unelected bureaucrats.
Congress must pass the REINS Act to return the lawmaking power to the people.https://t.co/XfS8nuel0Y

The FDA has formally submitted its proposed ban on the sale of menthol cigarettes and cigars.
But the data suggest that the proposed ban will not work, will likely foster a black market, and will further aggravate criminal justice inequities. https://t.co/RjXXd1ScU8 #CatoDrugWar pic.twitter.com/W9PYAHPIbb

Joe Biden wants safe crack pipe distribution and marijuana reform but menthol cigarettes have to go. Too dangerous.
Calling him a buffoon is an insult to buffoons.
— Insurrection Barbie (@DefiyantlyFree) October 24, 2023
Safe crack pipes, but no menthol cigarettes. What a perfect metaphor for liberalism.

AmazonSave £11Now £23.95It’s easy to forget given the subsequent release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. According to Social Media Strategist Joey Mannarino, Mike Johnson boasts a Liberty Score of 74%. A representative from Louisiana, Johnson has been a member of Congress since 2017 and has a generally strong voting record.
He played a key role in initiating the Texas Amicus Brief in 2020 and voted against the certification of the 2020 election results, which he viewed as fraudulent. Johnson has been selective in supporting funding for Ukraine, only voting in favor of the initial funding bill.
A strong advocate for national security, Johnson backed Trump’s travel ban on countries considered to be hotbeds of terrorism. He also served on Trump’s legal defense team during both the 2019 and 2020 Senate impeachment trials.
On the social front, Johnson is decidedly conservative. In 2022, he introduced the Stop the Sexualization of Children Act, aimed at preventing federally funded institutions from promoting the sexualization and transgenderization of children.
Additionally, Johnson is a personal friend with Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

Hotels in Los Angeles Replace Striking American Workers With Illegal Border Crossers | The Gateway Pundit
Some hotels in Los Angeles are apparently replacing striking American unionized workers with people who crossed the border into America illegally.
Talk about adding insult to injury.
Do the people of Los Angeles still like the idea of being a sanctuary city? Do they like being replaced in this way?
The Los Angeles Times reports:
L.A. hotels hire migrants from Skid Row homeless shelter to replace striking workers. Gascón investigates
When Norelis Vargas heard about housekeeping work at a hotel near Los Angeles International Airport, she did not hesitate to sign up.
Vargas, 39, who migrated from Venezuela and entered the U.S. about three months ago seeking asylum, had been living with her husband and four children at Union Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter on Skid Row, and needed the income. But when she arrived at Four Points by Sheraton on Oct. 6, Vargas said she was surprised to find a group of hotel employees picketing…
Vargas is among those from Skid Row’s migrant population who have been recruited in recent weeks to work at unionized hotels in Santa Monica and near Los Angeles International Airport where workers have gone on strike. In addition to the Four Points by Sheraton hotel, migrants were hired at the Le Meridien Delfina Santa Monica and the Holiday Inn LAX, according to interviews with migrants employed as temporary workers and organizers with Unite Here Local 11.
Now Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. George Gascón is launching an investigation into working conditions for migrants hired at hotels based on information brought to him by Unite Here Local 11, which represents workers involved in the largest U.S. hotel strike. Gascón said he is concerned about potential wage theft and violations of child labor law.
Here’s a video report:
In Los Angeles, striking hotel workers have alleged that hotels in Santa Monica and near LAX have been replacing them with migrant workers, including some who are homeless.
The workers claim that this practice has violated age and child labor laws.
Stay tuned for further… pic.twitter.com/OHn8NH6nJ4

It’s funny that local officials are acting all concerned about the hours and pay these people are receiving. That’s hardly the most important issue here.
