X faces advertiser backlash following Musk’s provocative remarks

Advertisers are increasingly distancing themselves from X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, following recent incendiary remarks by owner Elon Musk. According to a New York Times report, Musk’s confrontational stance and use of expletives against brands have led to a significant number of marketing agencies and their clients firmly deciding against advertising on X. This shift marks a growing trend of advertisers seeking to avoid reputational risks associated with the platform.

Elon Musk has been critical of advertisers since acquiring Twitter, even threatening a “thermonuclear name & shame” campaign against brands pausing their spending over content moderation concerns. His recent comments at the DealBook Summit in New York, where he apologized for an antisemitic post but accused advertisers of trying to “blackmail” him, have only exacerbated the situation. Musk’s explicit language and dismissive attitude toward advertisers, including targeting Disney CEO Bob Iger, have further alienated brands.

The backlash from advertisers poses a significant threat to X’s financial stability. Over 200 advertisers had already paused their spending on the platform, and Musk’s recent remarks are likely to turn these temporary pauses into permanent freezes. This could result in a loss of up to $75 million for X this quarter. High-profile brands like Apple, Disney, and IBM have halted their campaigns, while others like the NFL and The New York Times’s The Athletic continue to advertise.

Industry response

Marketing experts and consultants are advising clients to not only stop spending on X but also to reconsider posting on the platform. The consensus is that the reputational risk outweighs any advertising value X might offer. Linda Yaccarino, X’s chief executive, attempted to mitigate the damage by focusing on Musk’s apology and appealing for advertisers to return. However, her efforts seem to be in vain, as the industry perceives Musk as an unpredictable and unreliable partner.

The situation presents a significant challenge for X, especially as the last quarter of the year is typically a lucrative period for the platform. Musk’s rejection of advertiser concerns and his refusal to “pander” to them has raised doubts about his ability to stabilize X’s revenue. The ongoing boycott by advertisers, if prolonged, could potentially lead to bankruptcy for X, with Musk suggesting that the public would blame the brands rather than his leadership.

The recent developments at X highlight the delicate balance between free speech and commercial interests in social media. As advertisers continue to pull away, the future of X remains uncertain, with its revenue and reputation at stake.

Biden Embarrassingly Proves He Doesn’t Know What Inflation Is, Gets Hit With Fact-Check

Life

Screenshot: Forbes Breaking News YouTube Video

President Joe Biden is demanding businesses and corporations stop “price gouging” as they continue to combat higher inflation, and for his troubles, he earned a Community Notes fact check on X.

Biden first made the assertion early this week in announcing a new White House supply chain initiative.

“Any corporation that has not brought their prices back down, even as inflation has come down, even as the supply chains have been rebuilt, it’s time to stop the price gouging,” Biden said. “Give the American consumer a break.”

It was a line so good in the eyes of the President’s social media handlers that they used a version of it in an X post on Thursday.

The post began with an oft-used phrase of Biden’s – “Let me be clear” – which his critics contend is a tell that he is about to sell the American people a bridge.

Let me be clear to any corporation that hasn’t brought their prices back down even as inflation has come down: It’s time to stop the price gouging.

Give American consumers a break.

Biden Badly Misinformed On Inflation

President Biden’s post on rising costs, price gouging, and inflation in general earned him a Community Note on X – the social media platform’s version of a fact-check or added context provided by readers.

The Note provided several links and commentary suggesting that the President does not understand basic economic concepts.

“As long as the inflation rate is positive, prices are increasing,” it reads. “The fact that inflation has come down to 3.2% in October means that prices are still going up, albeit at a slower rate than before.”

Indeed, while it’s true that the annual rate of inflation has cooled from its scorching hot summer numbers, this doesn’t translate directly into falling consumer prices.

Businesses aren’t “price gouging,” they’re trying to keep pace. In order to do so they wouldn’t “bring prices back down” as Biden suggests, they’d raise them at a slower rate to match the 3.2% cost increases.

Biden Hammered By Critics Pointing Out His Fundamental Misunderstanding

Aside from the X Community Note, several viewers responded to President Biden’s comments on inflation and price gouging rather harshly.

RedState author Bonchie replied, “Do you not understand how inflation works?”

Do you not understand how inflation works?

— Bonchie (@bonchieredstate) November 30, 2023

He does not, in fact, appear to understand how inflation works.

“‘Listen, Jack, just lower your prices’ is a helluva economic strategy,” quipped online personality Damin Toell.

“Listen, Jack, just lower your prices” is a helluva economic strategy.

— Damin Toell (@damintoell) November 30, 2023

“Inflation going down doesn’t reduce prices, just lowers the rate of increase. Are you stupid or do you think voters are?” another user asked.

And the answer to that question is “Yes.”

Inflation going down doesn’t reduce prices, just lowers the rate of increase. Are you stupid or do you think voters are?

— Holden (@Holden114) November 30, 2023

Since Biden took office, Americans have seen a 17.6 percent price hike overall, with food prices up 20.9 percent, rent up 18 percent, and electricity up 24.7 percent. All of which has contributed to a three percent real pay cut.

Prices are astronomically high under Biden, and Americans know it — because they see it every single day. A recent report by Intuit Credit Karma shows that 96% of Americans “are concerned about the current state of the economy.”

Seeing outlandish price tags for the basic necessities of life has been so depressing to the American consumer that they are “doom spending” and perhaps artificially inflating economic activity that will later crash when they run out of savings and/or credit cards.

This isn’t the first time that the Biden administration sought to blame high prices on businesses rather than on their own economically illiterate platforms. Does anybody remember when they were going after “meat conglomerates” for soaring food prices?

Businesses are bad, it seems, in the eyes of this administration. And the only thing that can save you is the government.

A government that doesn’t even understand how inflation works on a fundamental level.

Ireland Rushes to Crush Free Speech After Stabbing of Multiple Children in Dublin Caused Rioting

Opinion

Screenshot YouTube : NBC News

The Irish government is doubling down on their attempt to push through a ‘hate speech law’ geared at social media users and meme makers. Since this summer, the law has been up for discussion, with Irish legislators claiming that restricting freedom is normal and necessary for the “common good.”

These efforts have intensified since the recent stabbing of multiple children by a man alleged to be an immigrant, which caused rioting and nationalist sentiment among some Irish.

Our Western friends across the pond’s embrace of targeting their own citizens’ ability to criticize their governments should serve as a warning for all freedom-loving Americans. Because what shows up in European politics is generally either bound to make its way across the pond or a brainchild of left-wing American elites hoping to test drive their harmful policies over there before implementing them over here.

From America to Canada to Ireland and many others, THE most dangerous thing happening on the planet is Western governments turning against their own citizens as if they’re the enemy.

Nothing else comes close. Not Russia. Not China. Not terrorism. Nothing. https://t.co/70QUr7AFtz

— Jesse Kelly (@JesseKellyDC) November 27, 2023

The Common Good

The Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022 would criminalize “incitement or hatred against” people who have been deemed to have “protected characteristics.” The protected characteristic proposed by this legislation includes national or ethnic origins.

Also, it includes transgender or those with a “gender other than those of male and female.” The law includes as part of the list of illegal offenses:

“…condoning, denying or grossly trivialising genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes against peace.”

This line opens up the possibility of a citizen who questions the validity of reporting on the war in Ukraine and Israel, or anywhere for that matter, as breaking this hate speech law. Even further, this line makes something as innocuous as lamenting the deaths of innocents in these wars, which there always are, as possibly trivializing the original war crimes that kicked off said conflict as against the law.

RELATED: Air Force Base Warns Servicemembers That Exercising First Amendment Could Result in Discharge

Earlier this summer, Irish Senator Pauline O’Reilly explained the need for this law:

“When one thinks about it, all law and all legislation is about the restriction of freedom. This is exactly what we are doing here. We are restricting freedom, but we are doing it for the common good.”

Who’s common good is the Irish Senator trying to protect?

Ireland’s prime minister is more upset at the protesters than he is at the migrant who stabbed three children. Now he has vowed to end free speech in Ireland. The people should not stand for this. pic.twitter.com/ztNX0Csp2W

— Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) November 25, 2023

Forget the Micks and Paddies

The fever pitch to strangle free speech comes after riots in Dublin.

Instead of diving into the root cause that enraged so many of his countrymen, Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said the riots proved that:

“…we need that legislation through and we need it through in a matter of weeks.”

Prime Minister Varadkar went on to say:

“…it’s not just the platforms who have a responsibility here, and they do. There’s also the individuals who post messages and images online that stir up hatred and violence, and we need to be able to use laws to go after them individually as well.”

RELATED: Pro-Trump Crowd Erupts In Cheers, ‘USA’ Chants At The Big Conor McGregor UFC Fight

Let’s focus a bit on the Prime Minister’s wording: “…we need to be able to use laws to go after them individually as well.” The “them” he is referring to is his Irish countrymen. The ones who express their opinions.

There is no focus on the mysterious, still-hidden perpetrator who committed the heinous crime that kicked off the unrest in his country—just a plea to make it easier to legally go after native Irishmen and women.

This makes me uncomfortable

When Senator O’Reilly first advocated for this hate speech law, she said:

“If a person’s views on other people’s identities make their lives unsafe and insecure, and cause them such deep discomfort that they cannot live in peace, our job as legislators is to restrict those freedoms for the common good.”

The fact that this Irish Senator and the Prime Minister believe their job is to restrict freedoms versus protecting freedoms is alarming in and of itself. However, what defines discomfort is dangerously vague and leads to even more disturbing possibilities.

According to text from the bill, it can be an offense to prepare or possess:

“…material likely to incite violence or hatred against persons on account of their protected characteristics.”

How does one measure the likelihood of subsequent violence or hate from content that may or may not even be published on a social media site?

Mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor is under police investigation for this situation due to his critical comments on Ireland’s open borders. Borders that are so open that almost 20% of the of Ireland is foreign-born.

The “common good” doesn’t seem to be the common Irish good, but the common immigrant’s good, which is really the common elite’s good when one digs deep enough.

Despicable scenes last night in Dublin City centre. People looting shops amidst the anger and rage Ireland has for the many failed policies of government. Elon Musk: OpenAI may have found ‘something dangerous’

Elon Musk believes OpenAI may have found ‘something dangerous’ which resulted in the recent turmoil at the company.

The world’s richest ma, who co-founded OpenAI, was speaking at the New York Times’s Dealbook23 conference, in conversation with journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin when he suggested that something had been discovered that could pose a significant threat.

The comments landed after the recent furor in which ChatGPT creator OpenAI fired and then re-hired chief executive Sam Altman within a matter of days. A full picture has not yet emerged as to why the top-level discord surfaced and what it all means for the future of artificial intelligence.

With the temporary removal of Altman, Musk gave a typically robust opinion on the situation, as well as the role of OpenAI cofounder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever.

“I have mixed feelings about Sam. The ring of power can corrupt,” stated the 52-year-old billionaire.

On Sutskever, he was curious as to why she “felt so strongly as to fight Sam. That sounds like a serious thing. I don’t think it was trivial. And I’m quite concerned that there’s some dangerous element of AI that they’ve discovered.”

The conversation was analyzed by Last Call on CNBC, including this segment posted to their X account.

“I thought @elonmusk pointed out a really important issue with OpenAI that’s getting lost in all this drama over @sama,” says Vanity Fair’s @bethanymac12. “He also went on to say that he believes that AI is possibly the end of humanity. Elon Musk is very scared by this.” pic.twitter.com/QGPUxhUwWR

Elon Musk responds to X advertiser backlash

These comments from Elon Musk were in addition to his profanity-filled statement to the advertisers leaving X because of the platform’s perceived antisemitism.

X, formerly known as Twitter, has seen the departures of blue-chip corporations such as Disney, Apple, IBM, and Coca-Cola, who have removed paid ads from the social media giant.

Musk didn’t hold back on the matter.

“If someone’s going to try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmail me with money, go f*** yourself,” he blasted.

He said “f*** you” numerous times, at one point adding the words “hey, Bob,” an assumed reference to Robert Iger, the chief executive of The Walt Disney Company.

Musk did concede that the offending X post was arguably the worst ever in his history on the site, but his response has been bullish and candid, as ever.

Tapo’s home security bundle is a must-buy bargain for any homeowner

If you’re looking to beef up your home security but don’t want to spend a small fortune in the process then this deal is for you.

For a limited time only, you can bag Tapo’s C400S2 Smart Battery 2-Camera Security System for just £89.99, marking a phenomenal saving upon the original £179.99 asking price. You’d be hard pressed to find a better priced security camera bundle right now, so unless you want to wait until the Boxing Day sales, this is well worth snapping up in the meantime.

Plus, if you have a larger home, or several key areas of your property that you’d like to have monitored then this two-pack is definitely the way to go, otherwise you could end up spending a fair amount on two separate cameras elsewhere.

Tapo Home Security Deal

Tapo’s incredible dual-security camera offer is perfect for anyone looking to keep their home safe from intruders.

TapoWas £179.99Now £89.99

View Deal

While we haven’t reviewed this particular model, Tapo cameras have tested well with our writers in the past so it’s hard to imagine that the C400S2 doesn’t live up to that same standard, particularly with the amount of features it packs in for the price.

For starters, the crisp 1080p capture ensures that all footage, whether it’s shot in the day or during the night-time, has plenty of detail so you can check back on a specific event and never have to worry about squinting through grainy video.

In fact, you don’t even have to cycle through hours of footage to find out if the C400S2 picked up anything of interest thanks to its ‘Smart AI Detection’. This handy bit of software can recognise when people, pets and cars are picked up, letting you know right away of any suspicious activity around your premises that you might want to check in on.

If you manage to spot someone looking to break into your home then you can sound an alarm remotely via your smartphone, acting as an instant deterrent.

In better moments when a courier arrives at your door and you’re not around, you can always communicate with them remotely by speaking into your phone, which will then relay your audio to the C400S2’s speaker. This is particularly helpful if you’re on holiday and awaiting an important package – you can let the courier know of a safe place where they can leave it until you return.

As the final cherry on top, the C400S2’s rechargeable battery can last for up to 180-days on a single charge, so you won’t have to constantly top it up to make sure that your home is secure, giving you the peace of mind to focus on other things.

For just £89.99, the C400S2 two-pack is a great place to start for anyone looking to establish a strong security network in their home, and for anyone who already uses Tapo products to keep their home safe, this allows you to expand upon that ecosystem without breaking the bank.

No matter how you look at it, Tapo’s limited time security camera offer is well worth picking up – there’s no telling when the two-pack will be back down to this price.

Jane Fonda, 85, Reveals She’d Only Date A 20 Year-Old – ‘I’m Ashamed’

Opinion

Source: Screenshot CNN YouTube

The Hollywood star Jane Fonda, who has long been known for her radically liberal views, has shockingly revealed that if she were ever to date again, it would have to be a man who is only 20 years-old.

Fonda Would Only Date 20 Year-Olds

“I’m ashamed to say this, but if I were to take a lover, he’d have to be 20,” Fonda, 85, said while appearing on the comedian Heather McMahan’s “Absolutely Not” podcast on Tuesday.

“Now, why specifically 20?” asked McMahan, 36, to which Fonda responded, “Because I don’t like old skin.”

“I’m right there with you,” McMahan replied with a laugh. “I’m doing everything I can to keep it fresh.”

Unfortunately for Fonda, however, social media users were left disturbed by her comments, according to The New York Post.

“20? I’m not even half her age and I think 20 is too young for my age,” one user commented, with another adding, “Nah this shouldn’t be normalized.”

“What about if the 20 year old doesn’t like old skin?” commented a third user.

Related: Jane Fonda Launches Vile Attack On ‘White Men’ – Blames Them For Climate Change

“Spiritually and mentally and psychologically, I’m way younger,” Fonda said last year. “One of the things that I’ve learned as I’ve gotten into serious old age is when you’re inside it as opposed to looking at it from the outside, it’s not nearly as scary.”

Fonda has long been open about being interested in younger men.

20 year-olds everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief, however, as Fonda told Harper’s Bazaar in 2021 that she doesn’t want to be in a “sexual relationship” again.

“I don’t want to be in a relationship, a sexual relationship, again. I don’t have that desire,” Fonda said at the time.

Fonda was quick to add that she still has sexual fantasies, specifically ones involving a younger man.

“Do I fantasize? Yes, here’s my fantasy. I’ll just put it out there,” she said. “That I meet a professor or a researcher, somebody in that line who is really capable of loving, of cherishing a woman, so that I could test myself and see if I could show up.’

“I think maybe now I could, but the problem is that, like a man, I would want a younger man,” Fonda added. “Isn’t that awful? It’s a thing about skin. I would want a younger man, and I’m too vain.”

Fonda went on to explain that she is physically repulsed by men in her age group.

“One of the painful things that I’ve realized by 80 — I don’t even know how old I am — 83, and single now. What I’ve had to really think about is that I’m not really capable [of intimacy],” Fonda revealed.

“It’s not them. It’s me,” she continued. “If a guy had come along and said, ‘Come on, Fonda, show up,’ I would have run away scared. I was attracted to men who never would have done that to me because they couldn’t necessarily show up themselves. I didn’t know that at the time, but now I know. I don’t think I can do anything about it now, but that’s the truth, as Lily [Tomlin] would say. That’s the truth.”

🚨In case you’re too young to remember, ‘Hanoi Jane Fonda’ once visited POW’s while in Vietnam. These captured Americans secreted notes to her to give to their families. Then, in front of all of them, she turned around and handed the notes to their captors.

Fonda’s Romantic History

Fonda, who earned herself the nickname of Hanoi Jane during the Vietnam War after she was photographed straddling an enemy anti-aircraft gun that was used to kill U.S. troops, has been married and divorced three times. She was first married to French director Roger Vadim from 1965 until 1973, and they had a daughter, Vanessa, in 1968. Then, she married politician Tom Hayden in 1973 and had a son Troy before divorcing him in 1990.

Fonda’s final marriage was to the CNN founder Ted Turner from 1991 until they divorced in 2001.

Fonda can fantasize about 20 year-olds all that she wants to, but it’s hard to imagine anyone even close to that age showing any interest in her at this point. In the end, perhaps Hanoi Jane might want to consider keeping some of her thoughts and fantasies to herself at this point in her life!

Joy Behar Mocks Trump Over ‘Not Eating’ Claim – Volunteers To Send Him Lasagna

Opinion

Source: Screenshot The View Twitter

Source: Screenshot NBC News YouTube

Source:

On Wednesday morning’s episode of “The View,” Joy Behar offered to send Donald Trump some of her famous lasagna over claims made by the former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in her new book that the former president was “not eating.”

Cheney’s Trump Claims

In her new memoir “Oath And Honor,” Cheney alleges that she angrily confronted Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) about visiting Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after the January 6 riots at the Capitol, according to Mediaite.

“Mar-a-Lago? What the hell, Kevin?” she claims to have asked him.

McCarthy allegedly replied, “They’re really worried.’ Trump’s not eating, so they asked me to come see him.”

McCarthy has since vehemently denied that this exchange ever took place.

“For Cheney, first it was Trump Derangement Syndrome, and now apparently it’s also McCarthy Derangement Syndrome,” his spokesperson told CNN.

Trump has also denied Cheney’s claims through his spokesperson Steven Cheung, who said that her entire book belongs “in the fiction section of the bookstore.”

“These are nothing more than completely fabricated stories,” he added.

Behar Mocks Trump Over ‘Not Eating’ Claim

Despite this, the liberal media has treated Cheney’s claims as absolute fact, with hateful liberals like Behar having a field day with them.

During Wednesday’s episode of the ABC talk show “The View,” moderator Whoopi Goldberg kicked things off by mocking McCarthy, saying that he  “ran — raaaaaaan — to Mar-a-Lago after the election, because staffers said You-Know-Who was so depressed, he wasn’t eating.”

“Whoopi, I was thinking. Next year, no lasagna for you. I’m sending it to Donald,” Behar chimed in to say. “So hungry, poor thing is not eating!”

This was a reference to Behar surprising Goldberg with a plate of her famous lasagna for the latter’s 68th birthday earlier this month, according to The Wrap.

Goldberg went on to further mock McCarthy, saying that he “felt so strong, what, was he gonna breastfeed him? It just makes no sense to me!”

Behar’s History With Trump

Behar, 81, has long had one of the worst cases of Trump derangement syndrome of anyone in the media, and that’s saying a lot!

Earlier this month, Behar bizarrely dared Trump to try and get “revenge” on her if he is reelected in 2024.

“Donald Trump is running for president for two reasons: to stay out of jail, and to get revenge on his enemies,” said co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who previously worked in the Trump administration. “And when he speaks we should listen and, frankly, it’s scary.”

“Try it! Go ahead!” Behar exclaimed in response, looking at the camera as she addressed Trump directly. “Try it! We have this show every day! Okay, Donald?”

Check out this full clip in the video below.

Full Story: Joy Behar Dares Trump To Try And Get ‘Revenge’ On Her If He Wins In 2024 – ‘Go Ahead!’

Behar Wants Trump ‘Locked Up’

Back in June, Behar demanded that Trump be “locked up already.”

“He’s a grifter. He’s a grifter,” she said of Trump, according to Daily Mail. “Lock him up already. Lock him up.”

“Nixon was caught on tape and that was the end of his career as president,” she continued. “This guy is caught on tape talking about grabbing women’s genitalia – he didn’t learn from that or from Nixon and now he’s continuing to tape himself. That is really the definition of stupidity.”

Check out that clip in the video below.

It’s truly sad and pathetic that three years after he left office, Trump is still living rent-free in Behar’s head. She should really get some help for her Trump derangement syndrome, because this is not a good look for Behar!

Google rolls out critical Chrome update to patch zero-day vulnerability

Google has released a critical security update for Chrome users on Mac, Linux, and Windows, addressing a zero-day vulnerability identified as CVE-2023-6345. The Verge reports that this vulnerability, discovered by Google’s Threat Analysis Group on Nov. 24, poses a significant risk, potentially allowing hackers to access personal data and deploy malicious code.

CVE-2023-6345 is an integer overflow weakness within Skia, the open-source 2D graphics library used in Google Chrome’s graphics engine. Attackers could use this vulnerability to escape the sandbox with a malicious file, risking system infection and data theft. Google, like many tech companies, is withholding details about the exploit to prevent further risks.

Immediate action recommended for Google Chrome users

Users with automatic Chrome updates enabled may not need to take further action. For those who update Chrome manually, it’s crucial to install the latest version as soon as possible. The updated versions are 119.0.6045.199 for Mac and Linux, and 119.0.6045.199/.200 for Windows. This update is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance security and protect user data, with the fix rolling out progressively over the next few days and weeks.

Google’s prompt response to this zero-day vulnerability underscores the importance of regular software updates as a defense against cyber threats. Users are advised to keep their systems updated and stay vigilant against potential cyber attacks.
