How to check the battery health of a MacBook
The battery inside your MacBook won’t last forever and as you use it for an extended period its health and maximum charge capacity will deteriorate.
It is possible to get a quick look at the health of the battery in a MacBook by navigating to the Battery Health section of System Settings inside macOS.
Below we will lay out the steps so you can quickly gauge what condition the battery is in. This feature was introduced with macOS Catalina, however the steps below are taken from a machine running macOS Sonoma.
What you’ll need: A MacBook running macOS Catalina or newerThe Short Version Log in to the MacBookOpen up System SettingsSelect BatteryClick the ‘i’ symbol.keystone-video-block .flexible-container .ac-lre-player-ph-ext { position: relative; padding-bottom: calc((2 / 3.1) * 100%); padding-top: 30px; height: 0; overflow: hidden;}.keystone-video-block .flexible-container .ac-lre-player-ph-ext.ac-lre-carousel-vertical {padding-bottom: calc((2 / 3.9) * 100%);}.keystone-video-block .flexible-container .acw1 { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;}@media only screen and (min-width:1301px){.keystone-video-block .flexible-container .ac-lre-player-ph-ext { padding-bottom: 440px;}.keystone-video-block .flexible-container .ac-lre-player-ph-ext.ac-lre-carousel-vertical { padding-bottom: 350px;}}]]>Step1Log in to the MacBook
To begin, log into your MacBook so you’re looking at the desktop.
2Open up System Settings
Open up System Settings either by searching for it via Spotlight or finding it in the dock. it has an icon that looks like a cog.
3Select Battery
Once inside System Settings, scroll down and click on the Battery option. This will open up a new menu dedicated to battery options.
4Click the ‘i’ symbol
In the Battery section, there’s a row called Battery Health. Click the ‘i’ icon next to this to get a gauge on your laptop’s overall Battery Health. As you can see from the screenshot, this machine has a maximum capacity of 93% and a Normal battery condition. If you tap the Learn More box, you’ll be taken to Apple’s site with extra information.
If your Battery Condition is showing as Normal then everything with your battery is functionality as it should. If it shows Service Recommended the battery may still be performing as it should, but it will hold less charge. This is when you can look at getting the battery replaced to improve performance.

Far-left Mark Zuckerberg Reportedly Developing a $270 Million Fortress in Hawaii with a Massive Underground Bunker and an Escape Hatch | The Gateway Pundit
Source: PHIL JUNG
Far-left Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, is building a massive compound on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, featuring an escape hatch and a massive doomsday underground bunker.
The striking details of Zuckerberg’s secretive Hawaiian project have emerged following a WIRED investigation, citing sources and documents obtained through public records requests.
With an estimated total cost exceeding $270 million, Zuckerberg’s fortress boasts a 5,000-square-foot subterranean bunker with living spaces, mechanical rooms, and a ladder to an above-ground escape hatch.
The sense of fortress-like security is heightened by the inclusion of ‘blind doors’—portals designed to seamlessly blend with walls. Authenticated access control via keypads and soundproofing are additional features.
Plans for the site suggest a private escape, with the compound poised to offer self-sufficiency through its own water tank system and food production across its sprawling 1,400 acres.
WIRED reported:
Nobody working on this project is allowed to talk about what they’re building. Almost anyone who passes compound security—from carpenters to electricians to painters to security guards—is bound by a strict nondisclosure agreement, according to several workers involved in the project. And, they say, these agreements aren’t a formality. Multiple workers claim they saw or heard about colleagues removed from the project for posting about it on social media. Different construction crews within the site are assigned to separate projects and workers are forbidden from speaking with other crews about their work, sources say.
“It’s fight club. We don’t talk about fight club,” says David, one former contract employee. WIRED has agreed to withhold his real name because he was not authorized to speak to the press. “Anything posted from here, they get wind of it right away.”
Another former site worker, who we will call John, says he was told that another member of his construction company was fired for allegedly sharing a picture of the project on Snapchat. He’s heard similar stories from other crews. John says the “very strict” enforcement of NDAs has made workers on-site unwilling to “take the chance to get caught even taking a picture.”
The project is so huge that a not-insignificant share of the island is bound by the NDA. But everyone here knows who is behind it. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, who bought the land in a series of deals beginning in August 2014.
Speculation abounds as to why one of the world’s richest individuals would build a massive compound with such intricate security measures. The construction of Zuckerberg’s fortress is a private matter protected by NDAs and shielded by high walls.
What does Zuckerberg know that we don’t?

Microsoft Game Pass will not get Baldur’s Gate 3 ever
Ever is a long time, but Larian Studios boss Sven Vincke is adamant that if you want to play the 2023 Game of the Year, then you are going to have to buy it outright as the studio has no intention of ever letting its labor of love appear on the $15 per month subscription service.
In an interview with IGN Vincke said, “Oh, we always said from the get-go, it wasn’t going to be on Game Pass, it’s not going to be on Game Pass. We made a big game, so I think there’s a fair price to be paid for that, and I think that that is okay. We don’t charge you any micro-transactions on top of it, so you get what you pay for. Upfront it’s a big meaty game. So I think that should be able to exist as it is. This is what allows us to continue making other games.”
There was some talk earlier in the year that the original games in the trilogy, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 were coming to Game Pass, but as yet they have not appeared, and may never do so.
The unprecedented success of Baldur’s Gate 3, despite its $70 price tag, shows that it is still possible to have success with a title without the draw of Game Pass. Subscribers pay a monthly fee to Microsoft. Publishers are thought to receive a lump sum upfront to place the game in the Game Pass library.
According to a story on Eurogamer earlier in the year, a leaked Microsoft document suggested Microsoft thought it would cost just $5 million to get BG3 on Game Pass, compared to $300 million for Jedi Survivor – this was at a stage where nobody expected the phenomenal success of the best RPG for decades and the relative lack of interest in Jedi Survivor.
Although it has initial issues with save game functionality on the Xbox version, which Microsoft is still working through, there have been no such game-breaking bugs on BG3’s PC counterpart which has had a seemingly smooth launch for such a massively sized game.

Proton Mail beat Google for desktop
Proton Mail is currently only available in beta, but the new app gave Windows and MacOS users full access to Proton Mail and Proton Calendar. The new app has 50 enhancements to boost productivity and give you a secure experience. Proton announced they have offline access to emails that will be available soon.
Proton provides easy-to-use encrypted email, calendar, file storage, and VPN principles of “your data, your rules,” saying that your data belongs to you and not to “tech companies, governments, or hackers.” Proton claims that privacy and freedom come first, and you can sign up until January 4th for about $30 a month.
Andy Yen, Founder and CEO at Proton, said, “While many people use email on a desktop in a browser, desktop apps can still provide certain advantages such as better online support. For this reason, we have decided to launch a desktop app, something that even Gmail does not provide.”
Proton Mail for desktopYou can still configure the standard third-party email desktop app via Proton Mail Bridge. The app has a straightforward approach to using privacy-first products. Bart Butler, CTO, says this is “a first” for encrypted email service. He further explains, “Messages sent between Proton Mail accounts are always end-to-end encrypted by default. Butler says they initially had a huge technical challenge with the encryption process because they had to figure out how to “re-encrypt” messages for different recipients without the server gaining access to the content.

“I Believe They Would Spy on [Trump] in a Heartbeat” – Rep. Eli Crane Discusses Need for FISA 702 Overhaul Sponsored by Rep. Andy Biggs | The Gateway Pundit
Congressman Eli Crane told The Gateway Pundit on Wednesday that he believes the federal government will abuse FISA authority to spy on President Trump and Americans if Section 702 is not overhauled immediately.
“Anytime you try and change stuff up here in Washington, DC, the fearmongers always come out and start threatening people. I think Speaker Johnson fell prey to that,” said Crane after House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) pulled FISA reform legislation from the House Floor.
The Gateway Pundit recently reported on Rep. Andy Biggs’ (R-AZ) Protect Liberty and End Warrantless Surveillance Act (PLEWSA), bipartisan legislation to overhaul Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), approved by the House Judiciary Committee.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, House Speaker Mike Johnson delayed a vote on Biggs’ bill and another relating to FISA Section 702 extension, making it so that the unconstitutional Section 702 will be renewed without change until April 2024. On Thursday, Johnson also voted yes on the clean FISA renewal.
Days earlier, Rep. Andy Biggs slammed Johnson for his “weak leadership” after he caved to the intelligence community. “It looks like just an absolute, utter capitulation on his part,” Biggs said of the New Speaker.
Simply put, the bill would limit the FBI’s ability to surveil Americans and end the current practice of collecting, storing and digging through Americans’ communications without a warrant.
The issue of warrantless searches and targeting of the Trump campaign under FISA 702 was also highlighted in a recent op-ed by Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), published on The Gateway Pundit. Read more about why Congressman Gosar opposes reauthorizing Section 702 here.
The other bill, advanced by the House Intelligence Committee, would reauthorize Section 702 for eight years with minimal provisions to protect Americans’ rights to privacy.
Eli Crane spoke to The Gateway Pundit correspondent Jordan Conradson on Wednesday to share why he believes the House Judiciary Committee’s FISA reform is necessary.
Watch below:
Conradson: Congressman Crane, yesterday we learned that Speaker Mike Johnson’s pulling this FISA 702 reform and the clean renewal of it from the floor. It’s gonna get renewed until April 2024, I believe. Can you talk about the dangers of this, getting the clean renewal, and then the possible other bill that wants to renew it?
Crane: I think it’s a disaster, honestly. You know, I think anytime you try and change stuff up here in Washington, DC, the fearmongers always come out and start threatening people. I think Speaker Johnson fell prey to that. They’ve tried to do it to me multiple times back in January, the motion to vacate. And it’s just kind of the way the system works. Anytime you try and make change up here, I’ll be honest, there is always risk involved. It’s important that people understand that, but when you have our government that ends up regularly spying on the American people to the tune of hundreds of 1000s of times a year, clearly, there needs to be some reforms to that program. And so, I think many of us were excited to see that, you know, Andy Biggs and Jim Jordan and others from Judiciary took so much time and effort to bring a good bill to the floor. But then the downside of that was extremely disappointing to see the intel communities, Homeland Security and others pushing back against that and fear-mongering our leadership into not even bringing them to the floor so we could see where our representatives were at.
Conradson: What are the implications for the 2024 election? We know they have a history of spying on President Trump. Do you worry they might use FISA to spy on the Trump campaign or conservatives leading up to the 2004 election?
Crane: Well, sadly, and I hate to say it, but my concerns about what they’ll do to President Trump go far beyond that. I think they see him as such a threat that they would use any means necessary to get rid of him. They’re trying to get rid of him with lawfare right now. I believe they would spy on him in a heartbeat, or quite frankly, any one of us that they felt like was a serious enough threat. And that’s why I think it was so important that we actually look at that. I just don’t think a lot of folks up here realize, you know, just how backward this government has become, how dangerous it is becoming, and we definitely don’t play to win as a party, and it’s a problem.

Cruise restructures with major layoffs amid safety and cost concerns
Cruise, General Motors’ self-driving car subsidiary, is facing significant changes as it announces the layoff of 900 employees, approximately 24% of its workforce. This decision, as reported by TechCrunch, is part of a broader strategy to reduce costs and revitalize the company following a recent incident involving one of its robotaxis.
The company began reevaluating its operations after an Oct. 2 incident, in which a Cruise robotaxi struck and dragged a pedestrian. The email sent by Cruise’s new president and CTO, Mo Elshenawy, to the 3,800-person workforce, conveyed the gravity of the situation and the tough decisions ahead.
The layoffs primarily target non-engineering roles, focusing on field, commercial operations, and corporate staffing. Engineering roles, which form a significant part of Cruise’s workforce, are largely unaffected. Affected employees will receive severance packages, including extended payroll, health benefits, 401(k) contributions, and their 2023 bonus.
Market reaction to layoffs and Cruise’s strategic shiftGM’s shares rose 4.8% following the announcement, indicating shareholder support for the cost-cutting measures. Elshenawy’s email outlined Cruise’s new direction, focusing on delivering exceptional service in one city using the Bolt platform before scaling up operations. This shift marks a departure from previous plans involving the custom-built Origin robotaxi.
The layoffs follow the recent dismissal of nine senior leaders at Cruise and the resignation of co-founder and CEO Kyle Vogt. The company is now led by Elshenawy, with Craig Glidden and Jon McNeill playing key roles in its restructuring. Cruise aims to adopt a more measured business approach, prioritizing cash preservation and safety culture improvements.
Cruise’s operations have faced public and official scrutiny, particularly in San Francisco, where its robotaxis have been involved in traffic disruptions and a collision with an emergency response vehicle. The Oct. 2 incident has further intensified the focus on the company’s safety record and operational practices.

Republican Turncoat Miles Taylor Tells MSNBC That if Trump is Reelected He Could ‘Turn Off the Internet’ (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit
Do you remember Miles Taylor? He is the Republican who wrote anonymous pieces for the liberal media claiming he was the ‘anti-Trump resistance’ in the Trump White House, while working in the Department of Homeland Security.
This week, he appeared on MSNBC with former Biden spox Jen Psaki and pushed anti-Trump conspiracy theories, including the idea that if Trump is reelected, he could shut down the internet.
Of course, every president has this power in case of emergencies, but Taylor is suggesting that Trump would do it out of spite or in some authoritarian move. This is pure crazy talk, but Psaki laps it up, naturally.
Transcript via Real Clear Politics:
MILES TAYLOR, FMR. CHIEF OF STAFF, DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY: The possibilities are almost limitless and I spent nearly two years asking that question to people. And I wrote it in this book “Blowback,” to try to paint that picture and understand what he would actually do by talking to all of my former colleagues at different departments and agencies under Trump and asking them that question, what would happen in a second term?
The biggest concerns for me are on the national security side. I think Americans still don’t understand the full extent of the president’s powers and things Donald Trump could do bubble-wrapped in legalese that would be damaging to the republic.
And one of those that I’ve noted, is there is something in the White House called the doomsday book. For the first time, DHS gave authorization for me to mention this publicly, and the fact there are concerns that that book, which is supposed to be used to protect the country in instances of armed foreign invasion or rebellion, it’s the president’s most extraordinary powers could be picked up by Trump and used for domestic political purposes. He could invoke powers we’ve never heard a president of the United States invoke potentially to shut down companies, or turn off the internet, or deploy the U.S. military on U.S. soil.

Spatial Omics unlock cellular communication insights
The human body, consisting of 37 trillion cells, poses a complicated challenge for biologists who strive to comprehend how these cells interact to maintain life. Spatial omics, a newly emerging sector of technologies, aims to equip researchers with the necessary tools to tackle this challenge. In the last two decades, the omics revolution has enhanced our knowledge of cell and tissue biology through approaches such as bulk sequencing and single-cell omics methodologies. However, these techniques needed to separate cells from their native tissue, making examining their spatial arrangement impossible.
Spatial omics have now stepped in to fill this gap, enabling scientists to analyze individual cells and visualize their locations and interactions within a tissue. By preserving the crucial spatial context, these cutting-edge techniques pave the way for a more comprehensive understanding of cellular communication and function, thus yielding crucial insights into the intricate mechanisms governing human health and disease.
Why is spatial omics important?Spatial omics enable the assessment of biomolecule activity directly from tissue specimens. This technology is vital for observing cell organization and biological occurrences in unparalleled detail, as numerous biological processes are governed by highly localized interactions between cells in spatially diverse tissue settings. Spatial omics technologies have evolved from prototypes to commercialized instruments accessible for general scientific application, now able to profile tens of thousands of biomolecules at both single-cell and subcellular resolutions.
Data and AI advancements raise new questions about generating extensive datasets for clinically relevant findings and how data scientists will employ AI to analyze spatial omics data. Interdisciplinary collaborations between biology, data science, and AI experts are essential to leveraging spatial omics for personalized medicine and therapeutic innovation.

DO IT: Elise Stefanik and Other Republicans Now Calling for Harvard to be Stripped of Billions in Federal Funds | The Gateway Pundit
Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik and other members of the GOP are now calling for Harvard University to be stripped of billions of dollars in federal funds. They should absolutely follow through on this and make it happen.
Harvard’s president Claudine Gay has been revealed to be a plagiarist and she is not defending the rights of Jewish students at Harvard.
Republicans should offer the school a choice. They can keep Claudine Gay or they can have the funds, but they can’t have both.
Breitbart News reports:
Elise Stefanik, Other Republicans Call for Harvard to Be Stripped of Billions in Federal Funds
Republicans including Rep Elise Stefanik (R-NY) are calling for Harvard to be stripped of billions of dollars in federal funding and tax breaks over the Ivy League institution’s “antisemitism shame.” Stefanik explains, “We must defund the rot in America’s higher education.”
Harvard, which benefits from hundreds of millions of dollars in federal payments, as well as sweeping tax breaks — which have helped to make the school the world’s richest academic institution — is now being investigated by the Department of Education over whether it has violated the civil rights of its Jewish students.
Meanwhile, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) told the New York Post, “We must defund the rot in America’s higher education.”
“It is unacceptable and un-American that any taxpayer dollars are going to universities propping up their promulgation of antisemitism by supporting professors, students and staff many who have openly called for the genocide of Jews,” Stefanik said.
“We will use every tool at our disposal to ensure that schools that protect and encourage antisemitism are cut off from any and all federal funds,” the congresswoman added.
Stefanik has been very vocal in her criticisms of Harvard and other schools on Twitter/X:
Last week, the Presidents of @Harvard, @MIT, and @Penn showed the world they lacked moral clarity.
Yesterday, the House passed my bipartisan resolution condemning them and calling for their immediate resignation. This is just the first step in rooting out the rot of antisemitism…
— Rep. Elise Stefanik (@RepStefanik) December 14, 2023
This is just the first step.
I will continue to root out the rot of antisemitism from our colleges and universities and hold those individuals and institutions who have fostered its growth accountable.
“Harvard, Penn, MIT Formally Rebuked Over Campus Antisemitism After House…
— Rep. Elise Stefanik (@RepStefanik) December 14, 2023
If you want this madness to end at our colleges and universities, shutting off the money is a great first step. Hit them where it hurts most.

OpenAI’s Superalignment team innovates control methods for super-intelligent AI
OpenAI says it is making progress in its capabilities to manage super-intelligent AI systems, according to a recent WIRED report. The Superalignment team, led by OpenAI’s chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, has developed a method to guide the behavior of AI models as they grow increasingly smarter.
The Superalignment team, established in July, focuses on the challenge of ensuring that AI remains safe and beneficial as it approaches and surpasses human intelligence. “AGI is very fast approaching,” Leopold Aschenbrenner, a researcher at OpenAI, told WIRED. “We’re gonna see superhuman models, they’re gonna have vast capabilities and they could be very, very dangerous, and we don’t yet have the methods to control them.”
OpenAI’s new research paper presents a technique called supervision, where a less advanced AI model guides the behavior of a more sophisticated one. This method aims to maintain the superior model’s capabilities while ensuring it adheres to safe and ethical guidelines. The approach is seen as a crucial step toward managing potential superhuman AIs.
The experiments involved using OpenAI’s GPT-2 text generator to teach GPT-4, a more advanced system. The researchers tested two methods to prevent the degradation of GPT-4’s performance. The first method involved training progressively larger models, and the second added an algorithmic tweak to GPT-4. The latter proved more effective, though the researchers acknowledge that perfect behavior control is not yet guaranteed.
Industry response and future directionsDan Hendryks, director of the Center for AI Safety, praised OpenAI’s proactive approach to controlling superhuman AIs. The Superalignment team’s work is seen as an important first step, but further research and development are necessary to ensure effective control systems.
OpenAI plans to dedicate a significant portion of its computing power to the Superalignment project and is calling for external collaboration. The company, in partnership with Eric Schmidt, is offering $10 million in grants to researchers working on AI control techniques. Additionally, there will be a conference on superalignment next year to further explore this critical area.
Ilya Sutskever, a co-founder of OpenAI and a key figure in the company’s technical advancements, co-leads the Superalignment team. His involvement in the project is crucial, especially following the recent governance crisis at OpenAI. Sutskever’s expertise and leadership are instrumental in driving the project forward.
The development of methods to control super-intelligent AI is a complex and urgent task. As AI technology rapidly advances, ensuring its alignment with human values and safety becomes increasingly critical. OpenAI’s initiative in this area marks a significant step, but the journey towards reliable and effective AI control systems is ongoing and requires collaborative efforts from the global AI research community.
