China’s e-sports industry makes nearly $4bn in 2023
China’s e-sports industry has posted revenue of 26.3 billion yuan ($3.71 billion US) this year.
E-sports popularity has been growing in recent years, and the number of players in China will hit 488 million in 2023.
The revenue consisted of 80.87% live content streaming, with event and club revenue accounting for 8.59% and 6.42% respectively.
Some of the most popular categories of e-sports gaming included: shooting games (28%), multiplayer online tactical games (15.9%) and sports-based competitive games (12.2%).
This year, the number of non-exhibition events featuring both professional and non-professional players continued to grow steadily with 127 events. Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou are the hotspots for hosting offline e-sports events. Outside of China, e-sports have expanded globally, particularly in South East Asia, with countries such as the Philippines and Indonesia seeing a spike in its popularity.
Are e-sports toppling traditional sports in China?E-sports have gone from being a fun hobby for teenagers in China to becoming both a major cultural event and a national export. This growth could be seen at the Asian Games – a continental multi-sport event held every four years – where esports was a medal-winning sport at the 2023 event, with over twenty countries competing in seven e-sport games.
If the Asian Games is an effective barometer for popularity then e-sports were the 100m sprint of the event. Due to overwhelming demand, e-sports tickets were allocated through a lottery system – the only sport in the Games to receive a ticket lottery. With over 5 million entrants to the ticket lottery, each only held a slim 0.5% chance of getting a ticket.
As reported by the MIT review, Director of Research and Insights at Niko Partners Daniel Ahmad said:
“What’s clear is that Asia is the leading region for e-sports right now”
“Our previous studies have found that gamers in Asia are more motivated by competition, alongside completion, challenge, and community, when compared to the West.”
With China holding the largest e-sports market in the world with 35%, e-sports operate much similar to conventional sports. There are regional clubs, home and away stadiums, tournaments varying on league and skill level and even recently celebrity status being applied to star players.
Although despite this boom in popularity, the Chinese government remains on the fence with e-sports. On one hand, it praises the national pride attributed to e-sports; but on the other it is concerned for the capacity for internet addiction among the nation’s youth.

Greg Gutfeld Rips Colorado Supreme Court for Opening ‘Pandora’s Box’ With Trump Ballot Ruling (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit
In his opening monologue last night, Greg Gutfeld tore into Democrats and the Colorado Supreme Court over the decision to remove Trump from the 2024 ballot.
Greg reminds Democrats that things like this have usually backfired on them in the past and calls on all of the Republican candidates to speak out about this, singling out Vivek Ramaswamy for his plan to sit out Colorado until this is addressed.
He also reminds the U.S. Supreme Court that America is watching this closely.
Transcript via FOX News:
So scientists just confirmed there are three manmade things that can be seen from outer space. The Panama Canal, the Great Wall of China and Tyrus. Just kidding about the last one. It’s actually the towering stupidity of the Colorado Supreme Court. That’s it. Yes. Thank you. I’ll take it. It makes Pikes Peak look as flat as Joe Biden’s EKG. In a 4-3 decision, four Democrat appointed judges from the Ivy League just voted to remove Trump’s name from next year’s presidential ballot. In other words, they just endorsed him.
They just did more for his chances of becoming president than Joe And Kamala’s incompetence put together and that’s saying something. Are these four judges the only people alive who have noticed that every time the Dems use the Constitution as a snot rag, Trump’s numbers rise faster than Hunter’s heart rate after an eight ball. Maybe they really want Cher to move to Canada.
Insult him, impeach him, indict him, it doesn’t matter. He’s like one of those strangulation knots that gets tighter the more you pull against it. Trump’s a Chinese finger cuff. That toy used on unsuspecting kids that traps their fingers in a small bamboo cylinder. It’s how I steal their shoes. And with Biden polling lower than Hamas, the Dems are freaking out, which means time to do something unconstitutional and illegally spying on his campaign is oh so 2016.
So now, in a private club in Denver, four judges are toasting each other for election interference. They’re looking solemn, nodding like bobbleheads during an earthquake.
Watch the whole thing below:
Democrats are playing with fire. They’re taking the country to a very dark place.

Google’s list of top Chrome extensions for 2023 has one convenient gap
Chrome extensions help users of the world’s most popular browser personalize their experience and Google has released a list of its favorites of the year – with one area conspicuously missing.
From improving the aesthetic of your browser to boosting productivity, there’s a Chrome extension for everything. One of the most popular uses is ad-blocking software, which automatically blocks pop-up and pre-roll ads.
Many sites will now require you to turn off your ad blocker to access their pages as it impacts their ad-based revenue and such extensions are also not popular with Google. It’s perhaps no surprise, then, that ad-blocking extensions do not appear anywhere on Google’s list of top extensions for 2023.
Google hasn’t been quiet about its plan to prevent ad-blocking software from working at all, as part of its long-term plan to improve its services. After all, ad block impacts its revenue made through YouTube videos and on-site ads, so it was inevitable that ad-blocking extensions aren’t top of Google’s list of favorites for 2023.
Google’s top 12 Chrome extensions of 2023Despite skipping over what’s surely one of the most used Chrome extensions, there are still some handy examples included in their list, such as:

JUST IN: Federal Judge Blocks California Law That Bans Carrying Firearms in Nearly All Public Places – Issues Scathing Rebuke | The Gateway Pundit
A federal judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked a newly signed California law that banned people from carrying firearms in virtually all public places.
US District Judge Cormac Carney of the Central District of California, a Bush appointee, granted the ban and issued a scathing statement.
Judge Carney called the law, which was signed by California’s Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, a “sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court.”
The law, which would have gone into effect on January 1, banned guns from 26 public places including banks, zoos, churches, and public parks. The law would have prohibited people with concealed carry permits to carry firearms in the banned places.
AP reported:
A federal judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked a California law that would have banned carrying firearms in most public places, ruling that it violates the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and deprives people of their ability to defend themselves and their loved ones.
The law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in September was set to take effect Jan. 1. It would have prohibited people from carrying concealed guns in 26 places including public parks and playgrounds, churches, banks and zoos. The ban would apply whether the person has a permit to carry a concealed weapon or not. One exception would be for privately owned businesses that put up signs saying people are allowed to bring guns on their premises.
U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney granted a preliminary injunction blocking the law, which he wrote was “sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court.”

O’Keefe Media Group on Wednesday evening released video footage of illegal aliens being dropped off at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in Arizona.
December is on track to be a record month for illegal border crossings. According to Customs and Border Protection, more than 300,000 illegals will likely pour into the US in December on Joe Biden’s open border invitation.
James O’Keefe interviewed a Jet Limo bus driver dropping off illegals at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.
“Are these migrants from the border?” O’Keefe asked the bus driver.
The driver replied, “Correct.”
“I work for Jet Limousine and take a few trips a day,” the driver told O’Keefe.
O’Keefe said airline pilots, and agents are blowing the whistle and coming forward with more…

AlphV ransomware site is “seized” by the FBI. Then it’s “unseized.” And so on.
Enlarge / Shortly after the FBI posted a notice saying it had seized the dark-web site of AlphV, the ransomware group posted this notice claiming otherwise.
The FBI spent much of Tuesday locked in an online tug-of-war with one of the Internet’s most aggressive ransomware groups after taking control of infrastructure the group has used to generate more than $300 million in illicit payments to date.
Early Tuesday morning, the dark-web site belonging to AlphV, a ransomware group that also goes by the name BlackCat, suddenly started displaying a banner that said it had been seized by the FBI as part of a coordinated law enforcement action. Gone was all the content AlphV had posted to the site previously.
Around the same time, the Justice Department said it had disrupted AlphV’s operations by releasing a software tool that would allow roughly 500 AlphV victims to restore their systems and data. In all, Justice Department officials said, AlphV had extorted roughly $300 million from 1,000 victims.
An affidavit unsealed in a Florida federal court, meanwhile, revealed that the disruption involved FBI agents obtaining 946 private keys used to host victim communication sites. The legal document said the keys were obtained with the help of a confidential human source who had “responded to an advertisement posted to a publicly accessible online forum soliciting applicants for Blackcat affiliate positions.”
“In disrupting the BlackCat ransomware group, the Justice Department has once again hacked the hackers,” Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco said in Tuesday’s announcement. “With a decryption tool provided by the FBI to hundreds of ransomware victims worldwide, businesses and schools were able to reopen, and health care and emergency services were able to come back online. We will continue to prioritize disruptions and place victims at the center of our strategy to dismantle the ecosystem fueling cybercrime.”
AdvertisementWithin hours, the FBI seizure notice displayed on the AlphV dark-web site was gone. In its place was a new notice proclaiming: “This website has been unseized.” The new notice, written by AlphV officials, downplayed the significance of the FBI’s action. While not disputing the decryptor tool worked for 400 victims, AlphV officials said that the disruption would prevent data belonging to another 3,000 victims from being decrypted.
“Now because of them, more than 3,000 companies will never receive their keys.”
As the hours went on, the FBI and AlphV sparred over control of the dark-web site, with each replacing the notices of the other.
One researcher described the ongoing struggle as a “tug of Tor,” a reference to Tor, the network of servers that allows people to browse and publish websites anonymously. Like most ransomware groups, AlphV hosts its sites over Tor. Not only does this arrangement prevent law enforcement investigators from identifying group members, it also hampers investigators from obtaining court orders compelling the web host to turn over control of the site.
The only way to control a Tor address is with possession of a dedicated private encryption key. Once the FBI obtained it, investigators were able to publish Tuesday’s seizure notice to it. Since AlphV also maintained possession of the key, group members were similarly free to post their own content. Since Tor makes it impossible to change the private key corresponding to an address, neither side has been able to lock the other out.
With each side essentially deadlocked, AlphV has resorted to removing some of the restrictions it previously placed on affiliates. Under the common ransomware-as-a-service model, affiliates are the ones who actually hack victims. When successful, the affiliates use the AlphV ransomware and infrastructure to encrypt data and then negotiate and facilitate a payment by bitcoin or another cryptocurrency.
AdvertisementUp to now, AlphV placed rules on affiliates forbidding them from targeting hospitals and critical infrastructure. Now, those rules no longer apply unless the victim is located in the Commonwealth of Independent States—a list of countries that were once part of the former Soviet Union.
“Because of their actions, we are introducing new rules, or rather, we are removing ALL rules except one, you cannot touch the CIS, you can now block hospitals, nuclear power plants, anything, anywhere,” the AlphV notice said. The notice said that AlphV was also allowing affiliates to retain 90 percent of any ransom payments they get, and that ‘VIP’ affiliates would receive a private program on separate isolated data centers. The move is likely an attempt to stanch the possible defection by affiliates spooked by the FBI’s access to the AlphV infrastructure.
The back and forth has prompted some to say that the disruption failed, since AlphV retains control of its site and continues to possess the data it stole from victims. In a discussion on social media with one such critic, ransomware expert Allan Liska pushed back.
“The server and all of its data is still in possession of FBI—and ALPHV ain’t getting none of that back,” Liska, a threat researcher at security firm Recorded Future, wrote.
Enlarge / Social media post by Liska arguing the FBI maintains access to AlphV infrastructure.“But, hey you are correct and I am 100% wrong. I encourage you, and all ransomware groups to sign up to be an ALPHV affiliate now, it is definitely safe. Do it, Chicken!”

Texas Congressman Chip Roy Defends Support for DeSantis, Calls Out Trump for Skipping Debates: “Trump Hangs Out in His Basement in Florida, Afraid to Actually Debate” | The Gateway Pundit
Screenshot: CNN/Youtube
During an interview on CNN, Texas Congressman Chip Roy criticized former President Donald Trump for refusing to participate in GOP presidential primary debates and expressed his support for Governor Ron DeSantis.
Roy spoke with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, highlighting the contrasts in leadership between Trump and DeSantis, emphasizing the need to address key issues facing the nation.
On Monday, Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to encourage a Republican primary challenge against Texas Congressman Chip Roy.
Trump expressed his belief that the RINO congressman could be unseated by a “smart and energetic” Republican candidate, stating “For the right person, he is very beatable. If interested, let me know!!!”
[image error]Screenshot: Donald Trump/Truth SocialDespite Trump’s call on Truth Social for a primary challenger to “RINO Congressman Chip Roy,” the congressman pointed out that the filing deadline in Texas had already passed and he has no primary opponents for the upcoming election.
“Well, somebody didn’t get the memo. The filing deadline was last week in Texas. And look, I’m privileged and blessed not to have a primary opponent this time. I did get three primary opponents in 2021 when I voted to certify the electors of something I thought was constitutionally appropriate. And I still won with more votes than any other member of Congress in Texas,” said Roy.
Roy highlighted his own conservative credentials and his past support for Trump’s policies when aligned with his beliefs. However, he emphasized his current endorsement of DeSantis, citing the latter’s achievements in Florida and potential for national leadership.
“I’m an unapologetic conservative, unapologetic defender of Donald Trump when he does things that I agree with. For example, right now, I’m critical of the opinion out of the Colorado Supreme Court. I don’t think that’s following the Constitution. I think that’s stretching the bounds of the 14th Amendment unconstitutionally.”
“But I’m proudly supporting Ron DeSantis. He’s a good man, a friend to someone I’ve known for a decade. And for some reason, that gets under President Trump’s skin. And this is exactly what the American people are tired of.
“They want us to focus on the job at hand. They want us to secure the border, stop spending money we don’t have, make sure we have a strong military, do the things that they want us to do to get their lives back on track so people can achieve the American dream. That’s Ron DeSantis. He’s been doing it in Florida. He’ll now do it for the country.”
Collins asked Roy about Trump branding him a “RINO” and his avoidance of the debates. Roy didn’t shy away from stating his opinion that Trump may be avoiding debates because he’s “afraid” to face scrutiny on his record.
“First of all, that’s not something that I’m going to spend a whole lot of time worrying about. I’m focused on the job at hand, being a member of Congress, doing the things I just told you. But the point kind of answers itself. Pretty much everybody in the conservative world who understands what we do in Washington knows that I’m a conservative with a strong record. I have voted against Biden more than virtually everybody member of Congress. I have a strong conservative 100% score from the Conservative Review, 98% from Heritage Action pro-life community.”
Roy questioned Trump’s reluctance to participate in debates, claiming that a direct comparison of records would reveal DeSantis’ superior governance.
“I was just at multiple events with Ron DeSantis where he’s shaking their hands and looking them in the eye while Donald Trump hangs out in his basement in Florida, afraid to actually debate. What’s he afraid of? Look, I’m happy to debate him if he wants to anywhere. I’m just a little old congressman. Why won’t he debate Ron DeSantis or any of the other candidates? I think he should.

Leaked Sony slides highlight concerns Xbox will overtake PlayStation
The ransomware attack and subsequent release of a huge amount of files from Insomniac Games, not only highlighted the studio’s future plans for the next decade but also contained documents that were seemingly a lot closer to Sony’s chest.
Insomniac is a Sony Studio but the hack included a set of slides from the Japanese tech giant expressing concern that Microsoft‘s strategy could lead to the Xbox overtaking PlayStation in the coming years, reports Eurogamer.
The presentation appears to be an analysis of the threat Microsoft poses under the lens of the recent landmark acquisition of Activision Blizzard and its games such as Call of Duty and mobile king Candy Crush being pushed to the forefront and being able to, “disrupt and threaten console gaming and game subscription markets.”
Sony went on in the slides to identify that the acquisition could give Microsoft the opportunity to “leapfrog our current pillars, “ which Eurogamer states they then go on to classify as “already dated and behind the competition”.
It is entirely possible in the days and weeks ahead that more potentially damaging internal documents may be discovered in the file cache that were lurking undeleted on the server Rysida got access to. It is going to take some time for those interested in sifting through the ill-gotten gains to check every file.
For now, Sony sees Microsoft’s model of Game Pass as, although dangerous, as unworkable as an “expectation of free, best-in-class games creates [an] unsustainable model.” where monthly subscription fees fail to cover the investment put into game production.
Microsoft currently brings its big AAA titles such as Starfield and Forza directly to its Game Pass subscription service as Day One releases, meaning that players with a subscription do not need to fork out for the full price of the game. Sony meanwhile keeps its major releases such as Spider-man 2 and the Horizon games away from its own PlayStation Plus service, using that to focus on providing older games and newer, smaller titles.
Paul McNallyPaul has been around consoles and computers since his parents bought him a Mattel Intellivision. He spent over a decade as editor of popular print-based video games and computer magazines, including a market-leading PlayStation title. Has written gaming content for GamePro, Official Australian PlayStation Magazine, PlayStation Pro, Amiga Action, Mega Action, ST Action, GQ, Loaded, and the Daily Mirror. Alan Dershowitz Blasts Colorado Supreme Court for Trump Ballot Ruling: ‘Absurd and Unconstitutional’ (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit
Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz slammed the Colorado Supreme Court for their decision to remove Trump from the 2024 ballot as ‘absurd’ during an appearance on Newsmax on Wednesday.
Dershowitz correctly points out that Trump was not charged with or convicted of insurrection and goes on to point out that the BLM riots of 2020 could have been considered an insurrection, as well as the pro-Hamas demonstrations currently happening in cities and on college campuses.
He makes it quite clear that he is not a Trump supporter, but predicts that the U.S. Supreme Court will rule against this.
Transcript via Real Clear Politics:
ALAN DERSHOWITZ: In the 60 years I have been teaching and practicing law, I have never seen a decision that is so anti-democratic and unconstitutional. It is absurd. The idea that the 14th Amendment was supposed to substitute for the impeachment provision carefully drafted by the framers is wrong. If you want to impeach a president, if you want to make him not be able to run in the future, there is a provision that requires a 2/3 vote of the Senate. If the idea that the framers of the 14th Amendment intended to circumvent that carefully drawn provision and simply allow any state to make up grounds for denying him the right to be on the ballot undercuts democracy.
The 14th Amendment itself is very clear. It says in Section V that “Congress shall have the power to enforce by appropriate legislation the provisions of this article.” The Congress, the U.S. Congress. There is no provision in the 14th Amendment for any state or state court to interfere with the right to vote of their citizens. This is a terrible decision, it will cause disarray. If it were to be affirmed by the Supreme Court, which I doubt it will be, it would cause distress to the electoral process and would result in a repeated 2020 where whatever the result of the election was, particularly if Trump were to lose, he wouldn’t accept the loss, and he would have, in this case, some legal basis for questioning whether or not the courts had any proper role to play in taking him off the ballot in some states…
We don’t even know what an insurrection is! He hasn’t been charged with insurrection, he hasn’t been convicted of insurrection. People will say that Biden was involved in an insurrection in allowing thousands of people to come across the border, or the people who were involved in the Black Lives Matter demonstration, or the people today who are protesting in the streets all over the country against American policy toward Israel. Some of these are socialist revolutionaries. You have to have a definition of what an insurrection is. And the Colorado Supreme Court gets a C-minus.
Watch the video:
Dershowitz may be a Democrat, but he is absolutely right about this.

Google to limit election queries Bard can answer
Google will limit the types of election-related content its Bard chatbot and search generative experience can respond to, ahead of the 2024 US Presidential Election.
As reported by Reuters, preparations are underway with the restrictions to be put in place early into the new year.
With the rapid rise in prominence and capability of artificial intelligence (AI), there will be concerns regarding disinformation and interference in the democratic process in the run-up to the election in which incumbent President Joe Biden is running for re-election for the Democratic Party.
His predecessor, Donald Trump is standing for the Republican Party nomination and he would become only the second US President to serve a second non-consecutive term if he is returned to the White House.
Other than the USA, important national elections will occur in India, South Africa, and the United Kingdom throughout 2024. With these events in mind, Alphabet, Google’s parent company, wants to focus on how their platforms will be contributing and facilitating public discourse.
Focus on political advertisingGoogle has said that it will “work with an increased focus on the role artificial intelligence might play” given the involvement that social media and technology have in contemporary society and elections.
Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, has stated that it will prevent political campaigners and advertisers in other regulated industries from using the new generative AI advertising features it now offers. Reuters also reported AI involvement will need to be disclosed by advertisers if it has been used on any election-related adverts to be carried on Facebook or Instagram.
Conversely, Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, confirmed in August it would allow political advertising from candidates and campaigns in the US, reversing a policy that had been in place since 2019 to prohibit all political advertising.
It added that extra resources would be given to its safety and elections team ahead of the Presidential race in the coming months.
