Adventure awaits in Alabama on a USA Deep South road trip

The State of Alabama took me by surprise as I arrived with no expectations and didn’t know what to anticipate.

It was a real wild card state in the United States’ Deep South that I didn’t know much about.

I left Alabama amazed by the sheer beauty of the national parks, the nature and the vast array of waterfalls available.

If you love the outdoors, Alabama is a must-visit destination on your Deep South road trip.

Here are my suggestions of what you should explore on your visit to the State of Alabama.

Go on a road trip around the Deep South and the State of Alabama

This road trip to Alabama is part of a bigger road trip around the Deep South of the United States that I undertook together with Scott Tisson from Intrepid Escape.

The road trip that we did took us to the states of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee to cover the whole Deep South area.

I would recommend a duration of one week for this Alabama section of the road trip, which will be the focus of this blog post.

Making the complete road trip along with the other states will take you around a month to complete.
So you could just do this one-week suggestion, combine two states and do two weeks, or visit all four states in the Deep South in a month.

If you have more time, you can extend your trip to six weeks to give yourself more space and time in each state, but a good week in each state will be enough to cover everything mentioned in this article.

Hike around the Little River Canyon National Preserve

Alabama, USA 2023 1

The Little River Falls are a must-see natural attraction in the Little River Canyon National Preserve.

At almost 14 metres tall, Little River Falls demonstrates the power of water, with Little River carving its way through the sandstone bedrock and creating the beautiful canyon surrounding it.

The flow of the falls varies depending on the season. The river is low in the summer and autumn, exposing the picturesque sandstone beneath while leaving pools of water perfect for wading in above the falls, and a wonderful swimming hole below the falls.

It mostly rains in the winter and spring, which makes the waterfall show its true glory.

This mini waterfall, formed by water cascading over a sandstone ledge the width of the river is a popular swimming spot in the summer.

The paved Little River Falls parking lot on Highway 35 provides access to the falls.

You can also enjoy the Little Falls Trail which is an easy 0.75-mile hike that leads to 137 stone stairs that descend down the canyon to the river.

Go for a scenic driving tour of Little River Canyon Rim Parkway

Alabama, USA 2023 25

Take a drive along the 11-mile road called the Little River Canyon Rim Parkway along Highway 176.

Enjoy the eight overlooks, which provide views of waterfalls, dramatic rock walls, lush green trees in the spring and summer, and vivid reds, oranges, and yellows in the autumn, and the river carving its way through the canyon below.

A highlight drive to add to your road trip around Alabama.

Stay at the DeSoto State Park Motel

Alabama, USA 2023 37

Check in at DeSoto State Park Motel which is a 16-minute drive from Little River Canyon. DeSoto State Park Motel is a beautiful state park retreat adjoined by the Lodge & Mountain Inn Restaurant in Fort Payne.

Enjoy the peace and relaxation of Lookout Mountain Alabama right outside your door.

A fantastic location so you can easily reach the heart of the action.

Don’t miss out on the hearty American style breakfast buffet served every day to gather some much needed fuel for your hikes around Alabama.

Stop off at the photogenic DeSoto Falls

Alabama, USA 2023 5

The DeSoto Falls, which is close to the DeSoto State Park Motel, is one of Alabama’s most photographed attractions.

The waterfalls are so photogenic you might end up dropping your camera phone over the edge, so be careful!

DeSoto Falls is also one of the tallest, standing at 104 feet, and is one of the most visited waterfalls in the State of Alabama.

The waterfall has a concrete dam above the falls, which was built in 1925, making it Alabama’s first hydroelectric power plant, which is a bit of interesting historical information for the history buffs.

Pass by Cherokee Rock Village

Alabama, USA 2023 90

Located along Lookout Mountain, the sandstone boulders of Cherokee Rock Village are a premier rock-climbing location in the country.

The site has everything from gentle rising broad boulders that may be enjoyed by a novice climber to vertical rocks for the experienced sport climber.

This is also the location where the movie Failure to Launch, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey, was filmed.

The best part of Cherokee Rock Village has to be the surrounding views that you can enjoy from this look out point.

See the Noccalula Falls

Alabama, USA 2023 3

There are loads of waterfalls to be discovered in Alabama, and another one to check out would be the Noccalula Falls which cascades over 90 feet into the Black Creek ravine.

Enjoy a perfect sunset at Cheaha State Park

Alabama, USA 2023 123

If you’re looking for the ultimate sunset spot in Alabama, you can find it in Cheaha State Park. The park is a total of 500 acres with loads of space to explore.

All you have to do is simply pay a one-off parking fee for park entrance, park up and find your perfect sunset spot.

Also hike over to Bald Rock for some fantastic vista views looking over the incredible forests of Alabama; the outdoors is truly special here.

Exploring the city of Mobile and the Mobile–Tensaw River Delta

Alabama, USA 2023 182

Did you know that Mobile is the birth place of Mardi Gras and was the first place in the States to host the festival?

Mobile is full of good vibes, and there’s a fun party street with great bars to discover and an incredible cuisine full of amazing dining spots you simply have to check out.

If you’re doing a road trip around Alabama, you will want to end up in Mobile located on the Mobile River which is close to the river delta and wetland area of Mobile–Tensaw River Delta.

Dauphin Street Oyster House

Alabama, USA 2023 193

If you’re looking for a great spot to sink some beers and tuck into some local oysters, head on over to Dauphin Street Oyster House.

The highlights include the deep-fried oysters as well as the amazing shrimp selection.

The hushpuppies and green tomatoes are pretty good too. This spot is a must dine experience in Mobile.

Mobile airboat tour ride around the Mobile–Tensaw River Delta

Alabama, USA 2023 157

If you’re visiting Mobile, you have to explore the Mobile–Tensaw River Delta, and I couldn’t recommend a better way of doing it than by going out on an airboat tour.

Whizz around the delta in this super fun adrenaline fuelled airboat piloted by a skilled guide.

The Mobile–Tensaw River Delta is the second largest delta in the United States of America, and your guide will do their best to showcase the diverse species that can be found around the waters in the area.

If you get lucky you will be able to spot baby gators as well as the big ones too.

USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park

Alabama, USA 2023 139

A visit to Alabama wouldn’t be complete without first visiting Mobile’s number one attraction, the USS Alabama in the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.

Still intact in all it’s glory, jump on the deck and walk around the many floors of US Navy history.

In addition to the USS Alabama, you can explore many other different military vehicles on display around the park.

There’s even a presidential helicopter!

Kayaking with WildNative Tours’ Captain Chris Wiber

Alabama, USA 2023 7

One great way to explore the Delta is by kayak, and I highly recommend taking a tour with a local guide so you can learn a thing or two about the local wildlife.

Book your kayaking trip with WildNative Tours, and Captain Chris Wiber can show you around.

The great thing about exploring the Delta by kayak is that you can move calmly across the water without disturbing the bird life in the area.

I managed to spot a nesting osprey as well as a large selection of other local bird species.

Grab lunch at Felix’s Fish Camp

Alabama, USA 2023 208

Grab lunch at Felix’s Fish Camp. This is a must-dine spot in Mobile with an incredible menu full of local dishes.

Order a plate of the popular shrimp and grits with a side of hushpuppies, and don’t forget the greens.
This location is a seafood heaven, so be sure not to miss it.

Thank you for reading my blog post about exploring Alabama

Alabama, USA 2023 4

Thank you for passing by and reading my article all about Alabama and how best to explore the state on a road trip.

POLL: Joe Biden Now Underwater on All Key Issues for 2024 Election | The Gateway Pundit

Joe Biden is headed into 2024 under 50 percent on pretty much every key issue for next year’s election, according to new polling from Harvard/Harris.

Biden gets failing grades on the economy, terrorism, immigration and the border. Name the issue, and people are not happy about his handling of it.

Conservatives are right to view polls with some skepticism, but this has got to have Democrats concerned.

Breitbart News reports:

Poll: Joe Biden Faces Under 50% Approval on Key Issues Across the Board

The overall survey found Biden’s approval rating suffering, as 43 percent approve of him, while most, 55 percent, do not. For comparison, 57 percent approved of Biden in March 2021, and that figure rose to a high of 62 percent in June 2021.

Biden is struggling to garner approval on individual issues, as well. Less than half, 42 percent, approve of Biden’s handling of the economy, and 47 percent approve of him on the issue of “stimulating jobs.”

Forty-five percent approve of Biden “fighting terrorism,” and only 38 percent approve of his handling of immigration — a major issue as Democrats essentially admit that they would be able to control illegal immigration flow if they actually enforced the law, revealing this in their deal to Republicans, offering to cap illegal immigration at one million per year in exchange for $61 billion in funding for Ukraine.

That aside, just 41 percent approve of Biden on foreign affairs, and 44 percent approve of him in administering the government. Another 42 percent approve of Biden’s dealing with violence and crime in the country, 39 percent approve of his handling of inflation, and 42 percent approve of his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

This is really the bottom line. Most people believe they were better off under Trump.

Harvard/Harris Poll: Are/Were you better or worse off personally during the presidency of…?

Joe Biden
Better off — 45%
Worse off — 55%
.
Donald Trump
Better off — 61%
Worse off — 39% https://t.co/msIl9Uskwd pic.twitter.com/pkvVLmz5Kc

There’s no way for Democrats and the media to spin that reality.

The Finals hits 10 million players two weeks after launch

Since the release of The Finals earlier this month there has generally been nothing but praise for the FPS shooter that has dared to take on the big rivals such as Fortnite and Apex Legends – both these titles and even PUBG have solid, well-tweaked ecosystems that show no sign of letting up, so for The Finals to burst onto the scene, bringing its fresh take on things has been another gaming triumph for 2023.

PCGamesN reports that over 10 million players have taken part in The Finals since launch a fortnite, er fortnight ago, and it still has a large concurrent player number of over 100,000.

In The Finals players take part in a Gameshow – we don’t want to say it was inspired by Squid Game, more like 1990s sci-fi action movie The Running Man maybe, but its over-the-top style has been a massive hit with gamers, even though it has recently been suffering from an influx of cheats – always a sign that a game is doing well, and the devs have had to toughen up their anti-cheat strategy and software as some players were saying that Ranked matches were virtually unplayable.

It is important for Embark Studios to get this right now while the goodwill is there and the signs are the devs are doing a decent job.

A recent update to The Finals brings it in line with most of the other live-service games at this time of year by bringing a festive and snowy feel to the map with Monaco undergoing the winter treatment.

There have also been some balancing tweaks to characters that may have been overpowered and bring them all more closely aligned so there is no gaming penalty for playing as your favorite one.

The Finals progress in 2024 is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Executives From Pharma Company Sanofi Caught on Leaked Zoom Call Discussing Discriminatory Hiring Practices, “One in Five Hires NEEDS to be a Black Employee” (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit

James O’Keefe strikes again!

O’Keefe Media Group on Thursday evening released a leaked Zoom call showing executives from Big Pharma company Sanofi discussing discriminatory hiring practices.

Carole Huntsman, Former Senior VP said on video: “For instance, for black employees, one in five hires NEEDS to be a black employee for us to meet our goals.”

Huntsman continued, “One in ten HAS to be a Latinx employee for us to meet our goals. And you know, we have quarterly goals and we track them with data and so far we’ve met our goals every quarter since we’ve rolled out the aspiration.”

Bill Sibold, the former Executive VP & Global Head Specialty Care at Sanofi admitted their goal is to “advance racial equity through public policy.”

“This appears again to be a violation of title VII of the Civil Rights Act,” James O’Keefe said.

This type of racism against whites and discriminatory hiring practices is rampant in corporate America.

James O’Keefe recently obtained an internal document from IBM’s Red Hat that reads like a religious text and trashes white people.

O’Keefe Media Group also released a leaked video of IBM CEO Arvind Krishna admitting to using coercion to fire people and take away their bonuses unless they discriminate in the hiring process.

AI cannot patent inventions, UK Supreme Court confirms

The UK Supreme Court has confirmed that AI cannot patent inventions, upholding a previous ruling.

In 2019, the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) rejected a case to allow an AI model to be named as an inventor in a patent application, as reported by BBC News.

Dr Stephen Thaler made a bid for his AI, known as Dabus, to be listed as the inventor of a food container and a light beacon but the IPO threw this out in a decision approved by the High Court as well as the Court of Appeal.

The final court of appeal in the United Kingdom, the Supreme Court, appears to have ended the matter with five judges determining that “an inventor must be a person.”

The Supreme Court ruled an AI model cannot be listed as an inventor to secure patent rights, but interestingly, in this case, the judges did not rule on whether or not Dabus invented the items.

Dr Thaler previously told the BBC that if this form of a patent was rejected, it could lead to innovations being copied with nefarious intentions, stating, “acts of dishonesty, maybe even criminality, will be encouraged. I don’t think society at large wants these things to happen.”

Potential legislative changes due to AI

The IPO is said to have been pleased with the outcome of the judgment, but it stressed the government would need to monitor the law around this field to ensure that patent systems remain compatible with AI use in the UK.

On this note, there has been dialogue on how governments might need to adapt laws in the future to keep up with technological developments.

Simon Barker of law firm Freeths touched on the judgment, adding, “There are similar debates in other areas of intellectual property rights too,” citing the example of copyright in AI-generated works.

“Is the programmer of the AI the creator, or the user who is responsible for prompting the machine? And what if it really is just the machine itself, like Dr Thaler claimed of Dabus?”

Former Reagan AG Edwin Meese Claims in Legal Filing: Jack Smith Has “No More Authority to Represent US in Supreme Court than Bryce Harper, Taylor Swift, or Jeff Bezos” | The Gateway Pundit

Taylor Swift, Jack Smith, and Jeff Bezos: US Citizens who do not have the authority to represent the United States at the Supreme Court

Earlier today Attorneys General for 19 states filed a brief at the United States Supreme Court to halt Jack Smith’s move to circumvent the appeals process in his prosecution of President Trump.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey posted the news on X.

BREAKING: We have filed a brief at the United States Supreme Court to halt Jack Smith’s move to circumvent the appeals process in his prosecution of President Trump.

The DOJ’s attempt to accelerate the prosecution is blatantly partisan, and SCOTUS must reject it. pic.twitter.com/kJw2krar6U

— Attorney General Andrew Bailey (@AGAndrewBailey) December 21, 2023

Former Ronald Reagan Attorney General Edwin Meese joined law professors Steven Calabresi and Gary Lawson in submitting an amicus brief — an impartial advisory statement — to the Supreme Court.

Former AG Meese makes the shocking claim that Jack Smith did not acquire his purported authority as special counsel in a legal or constitutional manner and, therefore lacks standing to represent the United States in front of a federal court.

The Western Journal reported:

On Nov. 18, 2022, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Smith as special counsel to harass Trump and others over their objections to the presidential election of 2020.

On Aug. 1, the former president and leading GOP contender in the 2024 presidential race was indicted on four felony charges related to his election challenges and the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol incursion.

Last week, Smith submitted a petition to the Supreme Court for a writ of certiorari asking the justices to rule on the question of presidential immunity. Could Trump be prosecuted for “crimes committed while in office”?

The word “alleged” should now appear before the phrase “special counsel” in Smith’s case because Meese and his colleagues questioned the very validity of Smith’s appointment.

According to Edwin Meese and his co-authors Jack Smith has no business before a federal court.

In his conclusion, Meese stated this:

“Smith is a modern example of the naked emperor. Improperly appointed, he has no more authority to represent the United States in this Court than Bryce Harper, Taylor Swift, or Jeff Bezos. That fact is sufficient to sink Smith’s petition, and the Court should deny review.”

Here is Edwin Meese’s amicus brief — an impartial advisory statement — to the Supreme Court.

Is X down? Social media platform back after global outage

Social media platform X experienced widespread outages early on Thursday, December 20, affecting thousands of users around the world.

Peaking just before 6am GMT, thousands of users reported experiencing now-resolved issues on X, including problems in the UK, the US, and India. Between 5.30 am and 7am (GMT), there were over 70,000 reports of problems on the platform before a solution was found, according to data from Downdetector.com.

Both premium and free users of the platform faced issues loading their feeds, instead being greeted with a message “Waiting for posts”, rather than the usual flurry of posts. Some users were able to see notifications and share posts but were unable to load either the ‘Following’ page or the ”For You page.

X now reports all systems are operational on its status page and the platform appears to be working as usual in all regions.

Is X still down?

Account holders faced issues between 5.30am and 7am, reaching a peak just before 6am. However, this isn’t the first time the platform experienced problems.

Back in March, X experienced a similarly major outage, just after one of many rounds of layoffs that resulted in a drop of 200 employees. Much like December’s outage, users were faced with a blank welcome page, without the ability to see posts on the For You or Following pages.

People also complained they could not access links, images, or videos on the site, impacting their experience of scrolling through their feeds.

This was followed by another outage in July, where thousands of users reported being unable to see tweets, missing timelines, and the number of followers displayed on their account seemingly decreasing overnight. In many cases, these followers were reinstated once the outage was over.

Most recently in October, some X users were unable to log into their accounts, while others could access the platform but could only see empty feeds. In all cases, X was able to solve the issues within a few hours.

Joy Behar Says the Quiet Part Out Loud About Trump and the Colorado Ballot | The Gateway Pundit

Joy Behar of ‘the View’ let the cat out of the bag on the Colorado move to take Trump off the ballot.

Behar is a well known sufferer of Trump Derangement Syndrome, so this is no surprise, but her take on the situation is rather revealing.

In a tweet that she posted yesterday, she basically said that the left has to use the law to go after Trump. You know, to defend democracy or something like that.

FOX News reports:

Joy Behar crushed on social media for Trump Colorado Supreme Court rhetoric: ‘The law must defeat him’

“The View” co-host Joy Behar faced intense backlash on social media after suggesting President Biden may lose the 2024 election if former President Donald Trump is not defeated via legal intervention.

On Tuesday, former presidential candidate and Congressman Joe Walsh posted a “take no one will like” on X. Walsh admitted that while he personally believes Trump committed insurrection, he finds the 14th Amendment “insurrection ban” vague, untested and likely to be overturned by the Supreme Court.

He also predicted that the Colorado Supreme Court decision would strengthen Trump politically and stressed the “best and only” way to defeat the former president is at the ballot box.

Behar disagreed and offered her own position on social media.

“Joe, the ballot box can’t compete with the third party candidates who will take votes from Joe Biden. And let us not forget the electoral college. The law must defeat him,” she replied.

See Joy’s tweet below:

Joe, the ballot box can’t compete with the third party candidates who will take votes from Joe Biden. And let us not forget the electoral college. The law must defeat him.

— Joy Behar (@JoyVBehar) December 20, 2023

There are lots of great responses, like these:

“We must not allow voting and also the Constitution could get in the way”

You’re doing great, oh defender of democracy.

— IT Guy (@ITGuy1959) December 20, 2023

“the people want to elect him, so we must not let them have a choice”

— Caesar (@caesar_pounce) December 20, 2023

These are the types of arguments and rational that will drive voters into the arms of Donald Trump.

— jimmy camp (@jimmycamp1) December 20, 2023

Joy Behar is typical of the left. Their strategy is so obvious.

EU takes aim at Pornhub, XVideos and Stripchat under DSA rules

Adult sites Pornhub, Xvideos and Stripchat will be more strictly regulated in the European Union (EU) under the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA).

The three pornographic sites have been categorized as Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) as they meet the benchmark of 45 million users in a month. This move comes after the European Commission slapped a VLOP title on massive tech companies, including Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Wikipedia, YouTube and Google – with some of them seeking to bypass regulations.

The DSA ensures that VLOPs adhere to security, privacy and consumer safety protocols within the first four months of being given VLOP status. Specific to adult sites, requirements include minimizing risks linked to the sharing of child sex abuse content and protection for minors, such as blocks preventing access to pornographic content – e.g. age verification tools.

VLOPS are also required to draft transparency reports on risk management and content moderation within their company every six months as well as release their audit results and a systemic risk analysis once a year.

In an announcement on Wednesday (Dec.20), European Commissioner for Internal Market Theirry Baton spoke on the new wave of VLOP designations: ” We have already designated 19 Very Large Online Platforms and Search Engines.

“We will continue to designate platforms that meet the thresholds and make sure that they comply with their obligations under the DSA. I have been very clear that creating a safer online environment for our children is an enforcement priority under the DSA.”

Earlier in the week, the EU opened formal proceedings against Elon Musk’s X to investigate if it breached the bloc’s DSA rules.

Pornhub controversy

This VLOP classification comes after Pornhub’s parent company MindGeek was at the centre of a scandal two years ago. An investigation by the New Yorker found that non-consensual and underage videos were being posted on the site for years. This led to a 2021 lawsuit, accusing MindGeek of breaking both sex trafficking and sexual abuse image laws by allowing and profiting from content of this nature being posted on their site. The chief operating officer later resigned following the controversy.

With this VLOP classification, the EU Commission is seeking to ensure this does not happen again, by making these adult sites operate more transparently.

The trio of sites can launch an appeal against the VLOP classification if they wish. with Amazon and German fashion brand Zalando having done so already.

BIDEN’S AMERICA: Number of Homeless Veterans Rose by 7 Percent Over the Last Year – Highest Jump Ever Tracked | The Gateway Pundit

A new study has found that the number of homeless veterans in the United States rose by 7 percent in the last year, which is reportedly the highest jump ever tracked.

This is a problem that has always bothered most Americans, but is even more frustrating today as we see our political leaders in various cities and states scrambling to find shelter for people who have entered our country illegally.

Veterans should take priority over everyone, let alone people illegally crossing our border.

Breitbart News reports:

Number of Homeless Veterans Rose Over 7% in Last Year — Highest Jump Ever Tracked

The number of homeless veterans rose more than seven percent from 2022 to 2023 — the largest yearly jump since the government began tracking the metric more than a decade ago, according to a recently-released government study.

The study from the Department of Housing and Urban Development showed an increase of more than 2,400 veterans without stable housing in the past year over the prior year, bringing the total of homeless veterans to 35,574.

According to the report, advocates for homeless veterans say the actual number of veterans without housing is likely even higher, given the limitations of the survey.

Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough said in a statement that the White House planned to increase grant programs to prevent homelessness among veterans.

This is shameful. We should not have any homeless veterans.

Homeless Veteran statistics rose in 2023, but not as much as overall homelessness. Actions by VA in 2022 appear to have reduced the risk of a greater increase. https://t.co/6w0B2yxNYr

— Veterans Affairs (@DeptVetAffairs) December 18, 2023

There always seems to be money to send overseas.

Imagine if we took this grant money and used it to help our homeless veterans. https://t.co/3sjtrbX85Q

— Rep. Tim Burchett (@RepTimBurchett) December 20, 2023

This is a real travesty America is facing. There is no excuse that our greatest heros should have this happen to them. Unforgivable. Number of Homeless Veterans Rose Over 7% in Last Year — Highest Jump Ever Tracked https://t.co/hopRSui8sE

— Lady Tigress “Those were the days my friend” (@LadyConstance8) December 22, 2023

If Trump wins in 2024, he should make this issue a top priority.
