Oh yeah, I read it when it first came out, and when I was writing Having Your Cake, I re-read and re-watched every single interview and article I could find, including ones from way back in 2010 and 2011, about the bankruptcy, every time any of the three of them appear together, etc. I do my homework. ;)

Of course she isn’t serious. Why would the actors want to give away to show’s secrets? It would be idiotic to think so. Spoilers are called spoilers because the SPOIL the experience.
I disagree. She’s serious. Read the interview. She goes on about how 2cool” Mary is and how everybody likes her and whatnot. If the showrunners have something else planned, they would never tell the actors in advance. They didn’t even tell Amanda what her character was going to do as of the episode before finding out she’s a killer for hire in order to keep their secrets. This is her genuine (and completely misguided) interpretation of her character.

Not to mention Mary is a CIA-trained contract killer. Shooting people because she was “scared” would make her a piss poor operative and a huge liability to any organization. If she’s gonna be bad, please make her actually good at it.
And don’t forget that she’s ex-CIA, a freelancer! For that, she’d REALLY have to be good, and I believe that she is! She shot someone she kknew without a sliver of hesitation. She waited only long enough to get the information she needed from Sherlock (”Is John with you?”) and then she smiled at Sherlock’s naïve assumption that she wouldn’t shoot a so-called friend, and pulled the trigger. She’s a cold-blooded professional and calling her “scared” in this moment undermines everything the writers have done to build up her legacy as a professional killer.

Lol! Even if you were “just scared”, it still wouldn’t be “fine”!!
Mary doesn’t appear to be anything other than cool and collected in that scene. She even SMILES before shooting Sherlock. It wasn’t an accident and she wasn’t scared. She was just eliminating a possible leak, like the pro she is.
