Sighing, I wrap a towel around my waist and open the door, ready to try and be at least behave cordially, which I know is only right. “Listen, can I—”

“She’s gone.”

I look up, startled by Laney’s voice and even more shocked to see her sitting on my bed. Thank God I put on a towel. “Where’d she go?”

“Home, I guess.” She shrugs. “I didn’t ask. I heard the front door slam and got up to see what the hell was going on. Since you’re here and she’s not, I’m assuming it was her.”

How did I not hear the door slam? Not that I would’ve chased her. “All right, she left. So what’re you doing in here?”

She stands, grabbing some shorts off my floor and throwing them at me. “Go put those on and we’ll talk. Since I’m up,” she reminds me with an evil glare.

I head back in the bathroom to change, and stay in there, locking the door and taking a deep breath. I’m over six feet tall and lift almost every day, but yes, I’m scared to face Laney. Not only is she a hellcat when she wants to be, but I don’t want to see the disgust or disappointment in her eyes. She’s one of my best friends, even more so after becoming roommates, and her opinion means a lot to me.

“Get out here!” she yells when she finally realizes I must be stalling. “Take it like a man.”

I might as well go out there or she’ll undoubtedly come in here, kicking in the door or taking it off the hinges in what I have no doubt would be less than five minutes.

She pats the bed beside her when I open the door. “Come sit down. We’re doing this now.”

I hesitantly take a seat, my knee bouncing as I wait for her to speak.

“First, and of the utmost importance, you know I call my father ‘Daddy,’ so hearing your visitors scream it repeatedly in the middle of the night freaks me out. I wake up thinking I’m in some bad Lifetime movie.”

Fighting my smirk, I agree. “Okay, got it.” Maybe this little chat won’t be so bad after all.

“Second,” she stands and tucks my extra pillow between the headboard and wall before sitting back down beside me, “on school and game nights, booty call curfew is eleven. That work for you?”

“Yeah.” I sigh and run my hands along my head, wishing I had some hair to pull. “It won’t happen again, Gidge. I’m sorry.”

She places a hand on my shoulder with a small smile. “Don’t be sorry. This is your house too and we hadn’t talked about it. Now we have, so we’re all good. Any rules you want to put in place?”

“Nah, I’m easy.”

“Made crystal clear by the parade of women coming in and out of here.” She laughs and scoots away quickly, ducking the pillow I grab and swing at her head. “Speaking of which, been busier than usual lately—you trying to make a little Guinness or Gonorrhea?”

Here we go—this is what she really wants to talk about. It was a nice segue, funny even, but I’m on to her.

 I enjoyed the MaleDom POV, a nice change of pace.

 

I liked the careful vetting of both player and process, as described in the tale.

 

Edge-play?: That’s a tough one for me. It does not enhance my reading experience at all, and yet I can totally appreciate both the cautious and the sensitive manner with which it was dealt in this book.

 

Sawyer was a bit of an enigma for me: that he was an honest caring man was not in doubt. That he accepted who he was, both personally and professionally was evident, and made him utterly likable. That he loved his friends and his subs?…yes, that was there too. But did he ever figure out how to be IN love? I’m not certain I got that from him, and I’m not certain if I was supposed to get it from him. He seemed more bent on a martyrdom of sorts, in as much as it came to his choices, and that kind of left me hanging. Instead of feeling like a Happy-Ever-After it felt more like a Content-Ever-After from Sawyer’s perspective, despite the brief epilogue.

 

Still in all, I liked the story and most of the characters (Sonya? Really? An intervention? But that aspect was also well handled.) I think it was well written and was sympathetic to the Dom/sub dynamic. I personally didn’t get a “true-love” story from it, but I did get a loving story.

I confess, it’s true, I’m a writer of many naughty and wicked things romantic or otherwise. As evidence, if it pleases the Court, I’d like to present a snippet from my latest novel “OBSESSION”:

For a moment that seems to hover in time, there is pain, a piercing so sharp so she wants to cry out begging him to stop as he penetrates deeper and deeper in one slow thrust. She cringes and he grips her waist tighter, pinning her shoulders deeper and keeping her where he needs her. Helen takes in a gasp of air as she rides out the near agony knowing ecstasy is on the other side. Gripping the sheet tight and burying her face in the pillow as the sharp pain reaches its zenith as his thick shaft buries itself all the way inside her. Slowly the passion and pleasure she’s waited for replaces the pain as Helen reaches down between her own legs to hold the toy in place and rock on it as Kevin starts making long, slow, delightful thrusts in and out of her gently using the entire length of the king-sized cock between his legs.

What are some of the Taboos you just find irresistible in the fiction world. Are there some Taboos you won’t venture into, even in the fantasy world?

The truth is, a lot of the more pleasurable things I write about I have done in my personal life and I don’t much care if that reflects poorly upon me in the eyes of small minds.

I write about all kinds of taboos including violent crimes, murder, and sex—for pleasure and as a weapon. I’ve broken just about every ‘rule’ out there and, while I may find some things difficult to write at times and drag my feet a bit, if the story truly calls for it then I summon my courage and get as down and dirty as the occasion calls for. As far as sex goes, in my OF WAR Series there’s a lot of “incest” and I get called to task on it from time to time. I always grumble, sigh and shake my head when that happens. We’re dealing with Greek Gods in this series and historically speaking, they were always screwing each other—literally and figuratively. They knew few bounds when it came to sex and did not consider incest a taboo.

With my latest novel “OBSESSION” we’re dealing with a serial killer/rapist who is stalking our heroine. ‘Eddie’ a/k/a The Shaw Street Strangler gets up to tons of nasty stuff that most writers would stay far away from.

 

>> If you could truly escape the everyday life and live inside one of your books, which one would it be and what character would you play?

I’d escape into “The Heart of War” and be Alena. I would live with that sexy badass hunk Ares God of War on his secluded Greek Isle for the rest of my days soaking in his huge hot tub, lazing naked in the sun, and getting sweaty in his bed.

 

 

>> If life is like a box of chocolates, what flavor is your favorite book?

It’s a deep dark rich slightly bitter chocolate with a chewy nutty center.

 

 

>> You just finished a hard writing crunch and well… you’d probably be feeling good if it weren’t for the fact your eyes are cross-eyed, your fingers ache, your wrist feels like it’s on backwards and your butt feels like a flat tire. What’s your secret weapon for unwinding from all that?

Unwind from it? I bask in it. Those are the days I truly know I’m on to something good! If I’m spent, tired, wired, hungry and horny as hell then I’ve done a damn good day’s work and it’s time to enjoy the fruits of that particular labor.

 

 

>>Okay, hypothetically speaking (for book research of course) what is your favorite sexual position or sex-play? (Remember, this is purely hypothetical *winks*)

I’m an old fashioned girl who likes to be tied to a bed with silk bindings and then be totally taken advantage of by a lustful but not overbearing lover.

 

 

>> Fact or Fiction: Tell us the craziest place, timing or position you… errr… your characters have ever done it. And then tell us the real truth…

Once upon a time I wrote a hot short story called “Love in an Elevator” where our naughty couple got stuck in a glass elevator and proceeded to put on a very good show for all around.

For myself, it’s a toss-up between a department store fitting room and just about every graveyard within a 20 mile radius of my house.

 

 

>> Is there a support group for people addicted to your books?

No but there is a mailing list and, of course, I’m always here in the Cyber World and my door is always open; Psychiatry Sessions $0.05!

 

 

>> As an author of erotica, do you find you are more of a sex expert then say, some talk show sex experts? And could you give us a sample of advice?

I never watch or listen to “reality star” “experts”. The only one I actually liked and thought she was telling the truth instead of trying to fatten her wallet was Dr. Ruth. As for advice; When that gagging feeling kicks in at an inopportune moment, take a breath through your nose, swallow, and then carry on.

 

 

>> I spend so much time at home writing, I hardly ever get out of the house. So my characters are my closest friends. Has your family caught on to the fact that when you talk about so and so at the dinner table that it’s really just one of your characters and not the guy next door?

I don’t talk about my characters to my family but they still haven’t caught on to the fact that I’m not actually watching whatever’s on the TV as I sit on the couch in the evenings. I’m playing my storyline over and over in my head, talking to the Muse, and getting ideas on where we go from our current position.

 

 

>> Boxers, Briefs or going Commando? (feel free to share pictures-for the fans of course)

My first choice is going Commando I think it’s very sexy and daring. Second choice is boxer/briefs. They fit very nicely and keep everything high and tight.

 

 

>> Let’s face it, life can be hysterical. And as story tellers, we get ideas from the craziest things. Whether it be a song, a book, a movie, something someone said or you just happened to be lucky as hell to have witnessed something. What’s the craziest thing you ever came cross that spurred you head long into a new story? And where is it hiding now?

The craziest thing that ever spurred me into a story….actually a series…was “Closing Time” by Semisonic. It was the basis for my “Daughter of the Gods” Series which began with a novel entitled “Every New Beginning”. The best thing that ever spurred me headlong into a novel was this

That picture hit my eye and in the space of a few seconds I had entire 500 page novel running around in my head. It became “The Heart of War” which is book #1 in my OF WAR Series. See? I told you Ares was an incredible hunk of masculinity.

 

 

>> The kids, family and the neighbor’s dog are gone. It’d be a holiday man and you’ve planned a naughty orgy. Which of your naughty writer friends have you invited? And who’s on top? And when will we see that book?

Unfortunately, all of my naughty writer friends are female so we’d be doing a lot of drinking and maybe a naughty round or two of Truth or Dare but that’s about it. Only a man can fulfill my needs, not that I haven’t tried otherwise you understand.

Looking for a bit of suspense and thrill out of your next read? Snapped by G. A. Hauser is a book you should look at. You’re going to enjoy the twists and turns of this story. G. A. Hauser did a wonderful job of creating characters who will draw you into their lives. Lives that at some point in time have a connection to each other in the past as well as the present. She also weaved all of this into a story of corruption and deceit that will have you second guessing who are the good guys and who the bad guys are. Here are the main players in this story. 

 

Bryce Hayes bartends at the local pub. He is ex Special Forces. He left the service and joined the Seattle Police Department. During his field training he was teamed up with one of the most corrupt officer on the force. After only one month on the job his training officer along with a handful of other corrupt officers were charged and serving time for their crimes. Bryce was not charged with any crimes but this ended his career as an officer. Bryce also thinks the fact that he is gay may have had something to do with it. Now he bartends at the local pub which happens to be the local hang out for cops, ex-military, firemen, and medics. Nothing sexier than a bad boy who is a good man. 

 

Joel Maywood Vandergrift taught English literature and grammar at the public school in Rainier Valley. That was until they found out that he, an openly gay man, also wrote racy gay romance novels. When the school asked Joel to resign he decided he wanted to avoid the potential problems that some could and would start. He didn’t want to lose his two careers that he loved because of those potential problems. He now teaches part time at an adult night school, started a photography business and has three novels published. One of which has hit the top of the Times list.

 

Koko Angler is also an author. His book – Truth; My Life as a Crooked Cop had 10 weeks on the best sellers list. It has been a year since he was published, the money he earned is pretty much gone and he is having a problem with his ghost writer. His first book has fallen off the Times best seller list. He is blaming a new and upcoming author for this happening and he has a plan to fix everything. 

 

Kohl Abbott he was Bryce’s field training officer. He was arrested by the task force that was formed to clean up the Seattle police department. Even though he was one of the most corrupt officers on the force he only served 6 months for his crimes. He is either very well connected, smart or both. He believes Bryce owes him and has convinced Bryce of this as well because he didn’t get charged by the task force. And now he wants to collect on that debt. (How he kept everyone under his thumb, I would STILL like to know!)

 

Who knew the world of writing could be so treacherous. As Koko puts his plan in action we learn more about each of these characters. As you have probably guessed Joel is the young and upcoming author Koko wants dealt with. Now Bryce gets the one call that will clear his debt with his old trainer Kohl. He is told to find some dirt on Joel and if he can’t find anything to make something up that can be used to ruin Joel’s reputation as a writer. Koko doesn’t care how Bryce does this he just wants it done and quick.

 

Bryce is great at digging up information. As he starts his investigation into Joel’s life he can’t seem to find anything that can be used against him. He does find some unbelievable information on Koko but he isn’t the one he is trying to discredit. Bryce catches a break when Joel walks into the bar he works at and decides to take his investigation in another direction. Our sexy bad boy turns on the charm that no one could refuse and extends an offer. Joel is still heartbroken over the loss of his lover. But with a little encouragement from Daphne and Belinda, a couple of the older barflies, Joel agrees to the offer. 

 

With the introduction of our barflies and other good secondary characters the twists and turn become more dangerous. Joel notices this and starts to get suspicious about the incidents and the timing of his meeting Bryce. The events of the past, choices and consequences all affect the present and future. Oh did I mention Koko Angler is the pseudonym for Kohl Abbott? Dang I love a good suspense story!

Dale and Athena are real characters, who in a welcome change of pace, come to the reader with some life-experience under their belts.   Both spring from the same lifestyle if not demographic, and in a real-life story so genuine a reader feels as though they can reach out and touch it as it evolves, they discover and embrace their heartfelt needs in each other.   There is no superfluous outside drama or angst, lurking evil or other such filler to mar the evolution of these two established yet dynamic lives.   The tale stands on it’s own.   It is simply about a giving woman who embraces her true self by letting go, symbolically and emotionally, and about the exceptional Master who is there to catch her.

No one creates beauty like this repeatedly, and with more effect than Ms. Hill.

Really,  quite perfect. A hearty recommend.

The Last of the Summer Tomatoes is a coming of age story that will have you going from wanting to kick some ones butt to shedding tears of heart break and joy. I will let you know this is a YA M/M story. I didn’t realize Kyle Jackowski was gay until a quarter of the way into the story. Because of his situation at home this is one of the things he keeps to himself. All Kyle has to do is survive the end of the school year and summer, then off to art school. Unfortunately Kyle and his friend Billy make a bad choice and Kyle may loose his freedom and scholarship for school. Until the Judge offers him a way out in the form of a work release program. He can earn some money for restitution and learn a few life lessons along the way.

Kyle goes from his abusive home in the city to the Johnsons dairy farm. Glenda and Walt decided to become part of this program to give a young person a second chance. Glenda realizes some of Kyles story right off the bat. She too is a survivor of an abusive childhood and sees the signs. Glenda and Walt are trying to help Kyle the best they can but it may be that he needs someone who understands a little more about his situation.

With summer break upon them the Johnsons son Sam returns from college to help out on the farm. Sam understands a few things about Kyles situation but growing up in a small town has given him a different outlook. Can he help Kyle realize he has a choice as to whether he just survives or if he lives his life? What happens when Kyle has to go back to his life, will this summer seem to be just a dream?

I feel the Author Sherrie Henry handled a Young Adult M/M romance very well. She gave us the ugly, bad and the good of what a young person in this situation may have to deal with. She also handled the subject of sex with a touch of class, just like your dreams of your first loves. I love a good steamy hot sex scene but I don’t think they belong in a young adult book. But with that being said you may still want to have a fan close by because young love is still hot!

Talk about “left field”!

My read is done and I’m supposed to review the book, and all I have is flight of thought.   My defense mechanism was to dedicate myself to NOT read any other reviews before committing my own thoughts to “paper”, because like Leticia, I needed to organize my mental notes, to reign in the squash-ball-in-play that was my mind and so, for better or worse…

At no point in this book was it ever what I expected.  Correction:  I did expect the interview format, because there it was in the title.    I was hoping for the best erotic romance I’d ever read, especially based on a phenomenal pre-release marketing strategy, and yet bracing myself for dismal disappointment and a pass on a review rather than write a bad one.   I mean what does a man know about writing erotic romance?  Moreover, what does a man know about romance, period?… Right?… Right?…

Interview With A Master started for me, as less an erotic romance and more the described interview with definite erotic overtones.   Perhaps even erotica.   For me, it evolved more as a factual discourse on the BDSM world in this era of titillating offerings disguised as a romance, that target an audience of people looking for a “way”…a panacea.   Interview seemed gently geared to setting the record straight, in the nicest possible way.  And I was okay with that.

I got the point.   I appreciated the insights, the subtleties; things I’d been wondering about myself.  Not to put into practice, but to merely understand.  To put this whole “BDSM thing” where it belongs:  in perspective.  Not on a pedestal, and conversely, not in dark back rooms where its discussed in hushed tones along with other horrible things like devil worship and cellulite and toothpaste tubes squeezed in the middle…

And via ‘Master Jonah Noble’, Jason Luke quite eloquently accomplished that.    And I thought to myself, “isn’t this great?:  a sane voice of reason in a new niche, who will be able to reach that huge audience using appeal and a reality check”.  

…And then out of that left field in a few short pages, nay, the last few short pages, didn’t the bast…um, Master, turn this into the biggest, heart-stopping, snot producing tear-jerker of a romance I have ever read!

You win, Mr. Luke.  Hands-down.   I slap my own wrists (with a whip…just because I deserve it) for my aforementioned “man-conclusions”, and I bow to the Master.   And I acknowledge the lesson, because I am nothing if not anticipating your next offering!

Both thumbs way up!
