Strike is the second book in the Completion Series. There is no connection to Play (book I) except the sports theme. Strike is a standalone HEA novel.
Nineteen-year-old Jaycee Shumway breaks into professional baseball player, Reed Tyler’s home, to steal the second most valuable set of balls he owns. Neither of them expect their striking attraction or battle of wills to lead them to a homerun.
Jaycee has more than herself to worry about. When Reed discovers she has a younger brother and sister, he’s quickly caught up in their world of need and heartbreak.
Baseball season begins and the separation puts Reed and Jaycee’s game on hold. With bases loaded and hearts on the line, will Reed convince Jaycee that she needs him to win or will Jaycee strike out and walk off the field forever?

Review I started this book and was instantly entrapped with the details of the story. I was laughing so hard at some of the comments from our little firecracker Jaycee, she had me dazed and confused half the time! This author had the ability to take a majorly depressing life and turn it around to see how strong Jaycee’s family was and the love that poured out of them.
This was an adorable story of romance and “The Knight in Shining Armor” riding in to save our heroine and her poor family. It was definitely an “adult” fairy-tale brought to life which included some bondage and very heavy sex scenes.
Now…..I did have a problem about 60% into the book where it just seemed over the top and started to fall in the “cheesy” category (not a bad thing for some). The ending wrapped up too fast and there wasn’t enough angst or drama to bring this “bad” girl to her knees.
Re-Cap Jaycee along with her brother and sister lived in a dilapidated trailer and make the best with what they have. Jaycee learns about some special baseballs that are worth tons of money and can help her make some money for her family. Little does Jaycee know that she is going to run into a naked man after climbing in his window, especially since it’s her first time as a felon.
Reed is pissed and takes out his frustrations on Jaycee (best part of the book) but after seeing where she lives and meets her siblings, feelings change quickly for Reed. The romance blossoms and Reed is ecstatic to have his “ready-made” family.
Wrap-Up If you enjoy happy, swooning, sappy stories – then this is a perfect book for you to read. It will have you going “Ohhh and Ahhh and Awwww” along with some laughs tied in.
I shook off his hands and stood up, the chair sliding back six inches when I did. “And you didn’t think to mention this before we moved in above your garage? The last thing either of them need are problems you jerk.” I paced across the kitchen and didn’t speak again until I turned and faced him. “What you don’t understand is they’re stronger than you know. I’m stronger too and they will walk into that school in the clothes we’re proud of and knock those rich kids on their ass with their heads held high”
Reed looked at me for several long minutes. “You’re right and I should have given you more credit. All of you more credit. He stood up and walked toward me. “You, Jon, and Bitsy are a family. I’m so jealous it hurts. I’ve never had what you have and all I know to do is pay my way into their hearts.”
That stopped me and some of my anger deflated though I had no idea what he was talking about.
“I loved my dad Jaycee but you haven’t met my mother. I dread the day you do. She’s different to say the least. But I never had a family like yours. Only stolen moments with my father when he was around, which wasn’t much. My mom hated baseball. Tyler’s don’t demean themselves playing professional anything. But that’s beside the point, I want you, Jon, and Bitsy to like it here. I want them to like the schools.”
I didn’t know if I could make Reed understand but I would try. “Jon doesn’t want to fit in. You think his Goth clothes and looks will hook him up with the…” I made finger quotes, “Popular kids?” Did you think you could buy him some shirts and linen pants, and make him into you? I’m not trying to be cruel Reed. But this world you live in isn’t ours. I’m working for you. A nice roof over our heads is part of my job but the rest, I need to pay for. Shumway’s earn their keep.”

This was a nice read for me personally and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the concept of the story and the way the author meshed the characters together. I was a bit concern at first, because I wasn't sure if the author was going to give me what I needed from the characters, because of their ages, but I think mission accomplished. I also liked that this story could be a stand alone, although it is a part of a series, I didn't need to read the first book to be updated and was able to dive right in to this story.
The opening scene and chapter for Strike, was so interesting and such a page turner, that that had to be one of the best and most interesting break ins I've read lol. It also sets the pace for the rest of the story and the relationship brewing between Jaycee and Reed. Reed is a baseball star at 25 and Jaycee is 20, struggling to keep her family together and food on the table. Once Reed got pass Jaycee's wall and Jaycee lets her guard down and her pride at receiving handouts, the chemistry between both Jaycee and Reed was a pleasure to read.
I liked that the author also allowed us the opportunity to get to know Jaycee's brother, Jon and sister, Bisty. It was nice seeing Reed having to work as well to bond with them, and Bisty was just too adorable.
Overall, it wasn't great, but it wasn't a bad read and I was entertained on all different levels with this book.
Strike is a light-hearted, bubble gum perfect romance novel. I was immediately engrossed the first few pages of the book. But it fell short just a little bit.
Jaycee is taking care of her younger brother and sister after their mother died. She's twenty and has the weight of the world on her shoulders. Desperate for money, Jaycee decides to rob the famous baseball player, Reed Tyler, of his balls. Perv. I meant his signed baseballs!!
The night she breaks in, she gets caught by none other than Reed himself. It starts a whirlwind of emotions and lots of hot sex. Later of course. But it's basically love at first sight. Reed is perfect in every way; it's a bonus that he's a professional baseball player.
I enjoyed Strike immensely. The sex scenes were scorching, Reed is the perfect guy, Jaycee and her family are so cute. But I feel like the whole story as a whole was too perfect. Here we have Jaycee(and fam) living on the edge of poverty in a run down, one bedroom trailer and not to mention a terrible neighborhood. She goes to rob a famous baseball player and in turn ends up being an object of the said baseball player's affection.
Now don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't think it can happen, I do. But the book is fast paced. I feel like we don't get to have much time getting to fall in love with them as a couple because they themselves don't take time to fall in love. They just do.
Towards the end in the 75%-80% of the book, I got restless. Nothing was happening. All it was, was sex. Throw in some scenes with Reeds friends and Jaycee + her siblings and we have what makes up most of Strike. I would have loved to see more baseball scenes, more plot around his ass of a mother, maybe throw in more of why Jaycee wanted to steal the baseballs in the first place. Or from whom she was going to buy them from. All we get is that Reed handled it and it was done.
I felt like the end of the book the author just wanted to rush and get it over with. She just glossed over everything and I was left with feeling like the story was again too perfect; yet I had no idea how or why.
Passion was not a problem nor was the actual writing itself. I just wish it would have slowed down a bit.
"I'll rock your world, baby, and give you the best mind-blowing fuck of your life."
Reed is sweet as well as a dominant. He's an alpha male if I ever saw one! There is very light bdsm in here. Very light. I loved him most as a character. He is what made me love the book despite the disagreements I have.
"I will fight for us if you won't, and I. Will. Win."
Another quote to make you fall in love? Don't mind if I do.
"I want these." Pinch to my nipples. "I want them swinging above me while I watch us fuck." One hand moved back to my ass, his fingers digging in at the same time his hips bucked forward. "I want to bury myself deep and make you scream my name."
Overall I did like the story. Don't go into it thinking it will be a deep book about a poor girl who gets the rich guy. Instead, read it as a fun story about a beautiful young woman trying to make in the world caring for her younger siblings; and meets such a beautiful and sexy man who wants more than just to be in her pants. If you feel that books like this aren't for you, try it anyways because Reed is something else.

Strike is an original, fun, thrilling and addictive read that many fans of the genre will definitely enjoy! Even those readers out there that are NOT sports fans will appreciate the innuendos, sports references, Holly Roberts all around great sense of humor and her writing style. Now I have to go back and read Play :)
Jaycee has it tough. She's a young woman that's never really had the chance to be a kid and enjoy the small things many children/teens enjoy. She hat to put on her woman gear and take care of her younger brother and sister. She's done great in all ways! Well that's until she makes a poor decision that just happens to land her into the dreamy life of Reed...
Reed, WOW! This man is a panty wetting dream boat that any woman would keep as a BBF (book boyfriend) for a very long time! He has a heart of platinum and is REAL. No sugar coating from him, nope! His alpha ways are the icing on the cake. Yea, he can be a little cocky at times. But I would be too if I was a hot and successful alpha male.
This is the second book in the Completion series but written as a stand-alone read. I look forward to what this author has in store for us next! A 4.5 rounded to a solid 5 rating.
Holly Roberts....Holly Roberts...I just love your books, I love the story lines of these books sooo much, her books are soo much fun, HAWT, sports related, Hawt, the best banter, HAWT...I said that already..right? lol Seriously they are a great read. You cant go wrong picking this book up ASAP!!
Jaycee Shumway: "I Broke into the house of a serial killer, or worse a serial rapist with the biggest cock on the planet." Gotcha with that line hugh?? lol So Jaycee has had a hard life, has a family at home and she did something wrong to make a quick buck to help her family out.
Reed Tyler-Mr. Baseball Man...nuff said!! lol Insert Reed...ohh this boy is one crazy HAWT mess and he is fixing to rock Jaycee's world. lol Heck, he rocked my world..lol
I cant wait to read more of these sports stories by Holly, Play was the first book I had read by Holly and I am sooo glad I finally moved Strike up my TBR for some fun, HAWT sports guy, I kept turning those pages and make you blush while reading kind of book..lol Cant wait to read the next book, ohh and BTW these are all stand alones, no reading order is needed from what I have seen so far. I gave this book 5 fan-dam-tastic stars!!!
Everything was way too easy for the characters in this novel--it's pure fantasy fiction all the way, with a strong serving of eroticism thrown in for flavor. There's a decent story at its core, but the writing here falls short of what it could have been.
Jaycee is desperate. She's been raising her younger siblings since their flighty, need-a-man-to-be-complete mother died. She's working at a fast food joint and taking college classes when she can, doing everything possible to keep the tiny, beat-up mobile home roof intact over all their heads. Her brother Jon babysits their little sister Bitsy while she's gone, which is most nights--neither one of them have much of a life, but keeping their family together is what's most important to them.
Then Jaycee decides to steal some autographed baseballs from a professional ball player's home, and their whole life changes....
There's total insta-love here. Reed falls head-over-heels in lust with Jaycee, and she resists for about a millisecond, but seems to lose her mind, her self-control, her ability to stand upright, you name it--the second he gives her his "little boy" look. (Ew.) Soon they're sleeping together, and the sex is, of course, amazing. He wants to move her whole family in with him, make their lives perfect, and starts throwing the L word around.
So he does.
The only real conflicts in this novel are Jaycee's token resistance, which one look, kiss, etc. from Reed makes her totally forget about, and the fact that Reed's mother is a total witch, which causes them grief for about oh, thirty seconds. Even the big drama surrounding Jaycee's original plan to steal from Reed and the local thug who she was doing it for is solved quickly and neatly, almost as an afterthought--blink, and you might miss that bit of drama.
A lot of sex and awkwardly-phrased conversations make up the bulk of this novel. There's so much potential for real drama here--resentful younger brother, bitchy wives/girlfriends of other players, the Shumways having trouble fitting into Reed's world--but none of it really happens.
Nice cover, though.

First there was football, now Holly brings us America's past time. I absolutely fell in love with this book. It was so different from the first book but in a good way. It was a good different. One I won't be forgetting anytime soon. I think I have discovered my weakness for alpha male sports leads. All because of Reed. He definitely wasn't your typical jock and falling in love with him was quite easy. Jaycee may be one of the luckiest girls on earth. She actually got to know this amazing man, well she was pretty terrific too.
In the beginning of this book we see Jaycee doing the unthinkable. She is breaking into Reed' home. His "balls" as in baseballs are worth a pretty penny. Jaycee has a family to support in the form of a younger brother and sister. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately for her she gets caught in the act. Reed humiliates her and then does something totally surprising he gives her a ride home. Then he really gets why Jaycee broke into his home. Once Reed is around Jaycee he can't stay away. They "strike" up a friendship and then it turns into more. They have an undeniable chemistry. There is way more to Reed then the sexy, and rich baseball player. Jaycee sees that and she falls for all his charms. When Reed has to be away from her to train for the upcoming season they both realize that being together is harder than they imagined. With more than their hearts on the line will the game go on or will they both strike out?
These two were incredible together both gave it their all. They were two focused and driven people who came from different worlds. It was an extremely fun read. I can't help but wonder what comes next basketball, hockey, Soccer...whatever it is I'm already on board. Too bad reading isn't a sport because this book would definitely win first place.

First, I want to say this story wasn't what I expected, IN A GOOD WAY. This was my first book by Holly S. Roberts, and won't be my last. This is a well written, romantic story, with some seriously steamy sex scenes. And, if that's not enough, a Hot Alpha male baseball player with a kinky side. Yum!
Jaycee and Reed meet under difficult and unusual circumstances. Twenty year old, Jaycee takes care of her teenage brother and little sister, and they are very poor. She works at a fast food restaurant and goes to school part time, to try to make a better life for her siblings. Reed is a famous baseball player and wants for nothing other than one thing, that money can't buy. Reed lives in a mansion and Jaycee lives in a trailer, their world's couldn't be further apart.
When unlikely circumstances bring them together again, neither of them can stop thinking about the other. Especially, after Reed drops Jaycee off at her trailer one night. He wants to help her and her siblings, but Jaycee doesn't want to except his help. Even though Reed is every woman's fantasy and Jaycee is definitely attracted to him. She has too much pride and insists that they are too different. Reed won't give up though.
What transpires is truly like a Cinderella story with a huge side of kink. The sex scenes are hot and the romance is sweet. I really enjoyed this story. Great HEA ending! I would definitely recommend this book to romance/erotica fans. There's not too much drama and it's an easy fun sexy read!
Hmm, I really liked this book … it was just missing something
The story starts out with Jaycee Shumway breaking into star baseball player, Reed Tyler's house to steal his balls. Yes his balls. Needless to say she is unsuccessful in her ball stealing (kinda) but instead sexually humiliated, then driven home and given the balls by none other than Reed Tyler. So I guess she was kinda successful? After that is just a whirlwind of craziness. Literally.
I was kinda iffy in the beginning, but then it redeemed itself towards the middle. I loved the authors attention to detail. She created great imagery that helped the reader connect really well. I love me some good imagery! The overall story itself was a little far fetched, but it was a fun wary going read!
I just wish there was a little more romance? Reed was great showing up at her job and what not, but they didn't go on any actual dates, it was all sex. They tried to go on a date, but then stayed home . . . I wanted more love.
Little Bitsy was adorable though, I loved her and the questions she asked! adorable!
I would definitely recommend to anyone who wanted wanted a fun light read. Great for people who want to think the dirty about their favorite baseball player. (Derek Jeter anyone?)
I really enjoyed this book. The sex scenes were smoking hot like all the ones Holly writes.
My favorite part was that there was not a lot of made up conflict. I read a book a day and sometimes I get tired of the formula, 2-3 conflicts, 50 pages or so from the end break them up so we can have a HEA, we didn't have to go there this time. Sure there was an attempt to break them up but this time Jaycee was smarter than that, you go girl!!! Not to say everything was wonderful because all relationships have issues but in this story they worked through them.
Loved Jaycee's family and her desire to take care of them and their's to take care of her. Holly painted a very realistic picture I felt of what life is like for people who fall between the cracks in our society, and struggle ever day just to survive.
HIghly recommend for realistic characters, love of family and smokin hot sex. ;)
THIS WAS PERFECTION!!!!! I loved EVERYTHING about it; Reed was so sweet, but with that kinky bad side that made me just drool over him (and yes, I wanted to jump his bones) and Jaycee was so tough but yet so lost and I LOVED how these 2 got together... that opening chapter was THE BOMB!!!! And HURRAY for the fact that there was some angst but not the amount that is in MOST NA's nowadays!!!! LOVED IT!!!! A 5 star read for me and one for my loved-it shelf FOR SURE
4.5 stars. Be warned....this is over the top simplistically perfect and ridiculously fairytale like, but somehow I loved it all the same. This is a feel good story for sure. Adoring, dominant, obsessed Hero whose crazy for the heroine/Jaycee. Her younger brother and sister were a plus too. Cute, sweet story.
I greatly enjoyed this book. Was not sure if I would like either of the main characters from the first few pages but should of known Holly Roberts would make great characters. They both bloom into people you cheer for and want to have a HEA.
This book captured me from the very first page. Fast paced funny and endearing, the story and the characters kept me entertained until the final page. A must read!!!
Oh for goodness sake! The story was a hot mess. And way too unbelievable! Jaycee plans to steal from pro-baseball player Reed. She breaks into his house and gets caught by naked Reed. Who ties her to a chair and gets turned on. Ends up driving her back to her trailer park where she has a 15yo brother and 6yo sister who she is guardian of. Do you see the idiotic problems already?! This was so stupid. So many issues. One Reed comes off like a frickin' creep when he ties up Jaycee upon catching her breaking in. Because of course the response is to not let police or security handle it. Then of course, you'd want to help the thief and not only that but date her. Riiiiight... Second, Jaycee is an idiot. Who breaks into a mansion to steal when it wasnt a desperate situation when you're supposed to be the one responsible for kids?! She talks about how she cares for them but where was her brain and her plan to steal in this situation? And what was she planning to do if she did go to jail. She'd lose her siblings forever after that. It just doesn't go along with a responsible 20yo who is trying to care for her siblings. Third, Jaycee gets incredibly offended when Reed offers her a job and a place to live, saying she wont have sex with him, even though she thinks about it all the time. But when the cat gets sick and she thinks it needs to be euthanized she's completely willing to sleep with Reed if he'd pay for the euthanization. Like wtf?! You'll do it to kill a cat, but not for safety for your siblings. Again the logic is so dumb. Of course, Reed the creep supposedly is not a creep and instead is a genuinely nice guy. Jaycee and Reed do begin to date and her siblings love him too and vice versa. Then Jaycee decides to be a frickin' idiot trying to end things with Reed because she doesnt want to take advantage of him...uh huh sure...but of course, Reed loves her and her siblings so much that he refuses the break up and proposes instead and adopts her siblings. This was just so much ridiculousness. I hated it so much. Reed does end up being a great, perfect boyfriend. But that beginning was hard to get over, he was creepy. Jaycee, I didnt love her, but didnt hate her usually. The sex scenes were the only good part, many of them were very hot. The romance was just way too unbelievable and idiotic for me. I remember thinking Play (Killian and Rebecca's story) was not real life too, but I could place it into a fantasy romance box and accept it; but this story was just ick. That beginning was just too awful for me. Too many things were dumb or just gross.
After reading Play (Book 1) I had high expectations for this book. It's hard to believe that these two stories were written by the same author. I'm a fan of insta love/lust but the plot of this story was unbelievable. I didn't feel any chemistry between the main characters and the faux BDSM aspect was ridiculous and felt forced, like it was thrown in to try and make things more interesting.
After reading Play and Goal, I wasn't expecting a shift to baseball, and I have to admit that the sports side of things was much less in this story. I did however enjoy the love story that included rags to riches, and found family. The start of the story was unexpected and I did love how things turned around. The Shumways deserved their happy ending and I was pleased to see them get it. I did kind of wish for more of a change of heart from Reed's mother, but some people will always be nasty.
OMG I absolutely love this story. Can't think of a stranger way to meet someone. The connection between Jaycee and Reed was immediate with sparks flying. He was absolutely the sweetest guy to her. Through in Bitsy and Jon and all the antics. The ending was so awesome.
A very interesting way to meet. Also unique. I loved her strength & loyalty towards her family, which unfortunately worked against her budding relationship with Reed. But in the end, love will triumph!
Keeps you intrigued through out the whole book, and very well written and may make you laugh too. Not really my normal book genre but I was very entertained by the whole book.
Another “can’t put it down” book. This one includes a little kink & I loved it all. The characters are so real & the story was definitely worth reading!
This book was an amazing mix of sweet and sexy all wrapped up in a great story that was perfectly written.
I went into this book not having read the blurb and the first page didn't really grab my interest but by the third page I was wrapped and unable to put the book down.
From the second we met Reed and his balls I was in a serious case of soaking wet panties lust. I mean what's not to love about a man who is as sweet as he is hung, with a touch of kinky thrown in?
This whole book was all about Reed. Jaycee was sweet and likable but Reed was everything I could ever need and then some. His absolute commitment to winning over Jaycee has made him a definite contender for Book Boyfriend of the year and the bondage didn't hurt either ;)
This is the first book I have read by this author and I have to say I am hooked. Seriously run out and get this book right now and lie back and enjoy a book that has a whole heap of
for giveaways and book grabs as well as the blog for
It’s the bottom of the ninth bases are loaded. 2 outs with a man on second base, Holly Robert’s is at the plate, with a full count. Her team needs her to hit a 2 run homer so they can win the game. Holly has played her heart out today ladies and gentleman. Can she do it? The pitcher approaches the mound, looking intensely at his catcher he nods his head in agreement and prepares to throw his pitch. Suddenly all things stand still – it’s just the pitcher and Holly facing off. The ball flies towards the plate and Holly swings the bat with immense power and will. The bat connect with the ball with a loud pop, it’s a long fly ball. The crowd is on their feet, the man on second starts sprinting to third base as Holly slowly jogs to first never taking her eye off the ball. It’s going….it’s going…its goneeeeeeeeeeee ladies and gentleman. Holly Roberts has hits a 2 run homer in the bottom of the ninth and The Completions win the World Series!!!!!
WOW!! Strike was amazing – I loved her first book in the series – Play and this was no different. Holly truly hit it out of the park with this fun. Strike is a fun, sexy, and flirty afternoon read that left me craving more. I am thinking maybe soccer next? The storyline, the characters, the humor, the steam it truly had it all and it was a joy to read.
Reed Tyler, baseball player extraordinaire, is sexy and fun. He has a bit of an alpha side to him too which was just a bonus. What I found that I loved most about him was his heart. His heart was made of pure gold and he truly did wear his heart on his sleeve. Yes he was successful and rich beyond his imagination playing a game that was born in his blood but he loved it. He didn’t let his fame and fortune go to head – he saw people for who they were on the inside and not what they had in their bank account. He swooned me over from the very beginning and kept my heart until the very end.
Jaycee has never had an easy life – after losing her mother she was left to raise her younger brother and sister on her own. Jaycee always puts her brother and sister before herself and knows that from how she was raised and with not having the best role model; that love doesn’t last forever.
Everything changes one night when a desperate Jaycee decides that it’s time to steal Reed Tyler’s balls. That chance encounter will change everything that Jaycee has ever known and believed. Reed doesn’t give in easy and wants so much more than Jaycee is willing to give and more than she believes she has in her.
Will Jaycee learn to trust again and give all of herself to Reed? Will Reed’s career and Casanova ways cause him to lose the one gift that he never knew he wanted or needed?
Again I say this – I love Holly Roberts! Strike is fun and flirty and oh so sexy. She really did hit the ball out of the park with this one. Strike has enough story, steam, and laughter to take you into extra innings but there is no need because Holly proved that she has what it takes to hit the game winning homer. She most certainly did NOT strike out with Strike! Go grab a copy and enjoy Reed and Jaycee – don’t strike out.
