I started reading this book late and figured I’d read the first couple chapters and hit the sack. Well it was a good thing I stared it on my days off because I was up until 3am before I had to close the book. From the first chapter this story will pull you in with some great action and amazing characters. The following chapters just get better *wink* The story will keep you on the edge of your seat while the characters will warm and break your heart at the same time then have you laughing. This is also an m/m romance and A. E Via has done right by not only her characters but her readers as well. *fans self* You don’t want to miss out on this story. You may even want to pick up the first book of this series “Nothing Special” and get a little more familiar with some of the secondary characters.

 

A. E. Via has given us some of the biggest bad ass Detectives written, 100% sexy, alpha and as smart ass as they come.  The comradely of the team on and off the job is priceless. Some of these characters you may have also met in her other books. I love it when an author writes their stories as a series but they can also be read as a stand-alone. There is something very pleasing about being able to keep tabs on the characters you have come to love. I do hope we get to see more of our new loves Syn and Furi in future stories.

The long-awaited saga of de Vries and Lindsay arrived…late.   And a severe rap on the knuckles to Amazon.com for their unacceptable lag time, especially when all other sites had it up expeditiously.  But that’s not why we’re here, so moving on…

 

Cherise Sinclair writes with a full, rich flair that puts her books on my auto-buy-with-a-bullet list.   ‘Enforcer’ was a tale no less anticipated, because of previous tantalizing glimpses of the enigmatic and inestimable de Vries.    That, and the fact that he had Lindsay firmly locked in a fairly long-term fear-anticipation vacuum.   Both nature and romance readers abhor a vacuum!!

 

I must say that I found an unexpected, yet much appreciated core strength to Lindsay, especially considering her less than stellar “prior life”.   Even in her tentative responses or reactions as the case may be, to interactions with de Vries, I found her to be believable and admirable.

 

Glimpses into other favourite characters whose past stories have been told and whose stories we eagerly await, were fun and fulfilling in a cozy way.

 

However, and it’s a big however at least on a personal level, there was one glaring obstacle to my usual slam-dunk appreciation of a Sinclair story.  Unfortunately that obstacle was, is and evermore shall be, de Vries himself.

 

I admit I did a mental “say what??” when he initially jumped to conclusions about the character of a woman he really didn’t know or understand in any deep sense, though he felt prepared to scene with her.   I also admit to a complete mental shut down of his character when, in the midst of a major crisis for the woman he DID know better, he pulled a response not worthy of a green high school boy, never mind an experienced Dom.   Intellectually, I’m aware that is all for story purposes.  Viscerally, I turned off.   I loved Lindsay’s immediate response to his behaviour, and actually hoped that she might stick to her core-deep guns.   After all, there is more than one HEA out there, but alas…

 

Notwithstanding, the Dark Haven world in general still captivates, and one character that falls out of my personal favour is no big deal in the final analysis.   It is a 5 star world in general, with a small, and admittedly uncommon 3.5 star blip on this reader’s record.

I really would have loved to been like Alexis when they were choreographing some of these scenes! *fans self* The only problem I have with this story is it ended a little abruptly. There is more story waiting to be told. I hope there will be a part two or maybe our six sexy authors will give us a story for the character they wrote *winks*

*smiles and nods at Sasha White* Now this is a great way to introduce a new series. The novella “Unfettered” opens up a whole new world for not only Ronnie, our unique leading lady, but for the readers as well. Unfettered is the introduction to Sasha’s new series Overwatch. Although this story probably doesn’t meet the industries standard for an erotic story, it does meet my standard for one.

I believe there is more to erotica than just the sex. There is the learning about ones desires and the anticipation of what may come from that. Sasha has given us characters, main and secondary, that I can’t wait to find out more about. As Ronnie discovers and learns more about herself and her desires the anticipation builds for both her and the reader. I also enjoyed the idea that Ronnie could be any one of us. Well romance stories are supposed to fire our imaginations, right?

Thank the writing gods and authors that realize romance isn’t just for those in their early 20’s! Yes Ronnie is 34 and still one hot little number. Ian thinks so too even if he hasn’t seen her since her teens. I know you’re thinking of your very first love right about now, aren’t you? Don’t worry we won’t tell your husbands and boyfriends or wives and girlfriends.*wink* One more little tid bit, Sasha’s story includes not only female subs wanting to learn about all the fun stuff but also male subs and a few training to become the Dominate. I’m looking forward to see if any of the following stories follow these characters as well. Either way Overwatch is looking like a series you’re going to want to check out. Just pick up this box set Mastered and check out the last story first!

The nice thing about having a fantasy is that the owner is in control of what happens, when it happens and can change the course of the fantasy at will.  It’s safe.  It works for the moment and yet in the long run it is, paradoxically, unfulfilling.

 

Now, what if you could find that person who could be entrusted to guide both you and the fantasy into reality?   You would discover, as Madison did, that it’s not about the fall.  It’s about the catch. 

 

And oh my, “Catch Happens”!   Logan has been taking Daegan lessons, I am certain, because, you know…wow!  

 

And yet, in vintage Joey W. Hill fashion, it’s so much more than that.  Trusting someone else is actually more about trusting yourself.   Letting go, and even failing, is to learn precious lessons along the way, not the least of which is your own strength.   Would that we all had the internal strength of a Madison to explore, and the confident insight of a Logan.   Happiness, thy name is…me!

 

I adored this series.   Even in parts, it read like a typically superb Joey Hill novel to me, and while I could still wish it were in one volume, the absolute skill and perfection of the writing and the storytelling, trumps format.  

 

I am an admitted ‘Hillophile’.    I have never failed to appreciate a Hill offering, even when I found it difficult to appreciate a specific character, or the character of a character.   There is an incomparable depth of world, person and emotion in every story, and I always come away…enriched.

 

I fully appreciate this series and all who reside in her!   I could not recommend a read, or series of reads, more heartily.
